Description

Situated in the bustling town of Windermere, Cumbria and surrounded by the towering peaks of the Lake District National Park lies Silverthwaite, a charming semi-detached stone-built cottage.

Offering off-road parking while being close to amenities, and a traditional décor, this delightful cottage is ideal for two couples or a small family looking to explore the wonderfully diverse terrains of the Lakes.

As you arrive at the property, enter the sitting room and sink into the comfy sofas with your loved ones and flicking on the Smart TV to watch a film.

Moving through the property, the dining area is decorated in neutral tones and wooden furnishings adding to the character of the property, and provides a space for the group to gather and discuss the day's activities as you enjoy a fresh homecooked meal.

Making your way to the amply-equipped kitchen, the cottage is home to all the appliances you need to rustle up delicious meals for the group, including an electric oven and hob and an all-important dishwasher, as well as a handy washing machine and tumble dryer so you can freshen up your clothes after your adventuresome days.

When the night grows darker and it is time to rest your head, climb the stairs to the first floor, where you will find a king-size bedroom, this room benefits from an en-suite shower room, and there is a separate super king-size bedroom which has the flexibility of being made as a twin on request.

Each bedroom has been thoughtfully decorated in a light and airy décor and is complete with hanging space and wooden furnishings, tying in the traditional feel throughout the property, as well as pretty views across the town.

Relax and unwind in the bubble bath with a good book; the family bathroom is home to a bath, a shower over, a basin and a WC.

Take your dining experience outside to the patio and savour a glass of wine in the last of the summer sun as you gaze out over the surrounding cottages and over to the distant hills.

Treat yourself to a meal out one evening in one of the nearby restaurants such as Hooked, which offers fresh seafood, or one of many cuisines offered in the town centre.

Windermere has plenty of attractions to keep you busy throughout your stay including the Windermere Jetty Museum, which offers an insight into the boating history of the Lake District.

For days out while at the cottage, venture out to Wray Castle, one of the most popular tourist destinations in the area renowned for its magnificent Gothic Revival castle, well-kept grounds, and spectacular views across the surrounding peaks.

Spend a day in the nearby town of Ambleside which is home to plenty of shops, pubs, cafés and restaurants to fuel your day; from here, you can climb Loughrigg Fell, and the adventurous members of the group may also want to visit Rydal Cave on the northside of the route, where you can explore the cave and its shallow lake of small fish.

The area is a haven for walkers, cyclists and adventurers alike, offering a plethora of routes around the lakes and through woodlands such as the Grizedale Forest, as well as ample watersport opportunities, perfect for all ages.

This is the 3rd time at the property and we did notice an improvement on the cleanliness.

There weren't so many cobwebs. The bathrooms could do with being updated. We would stay again as the off road parking is a bonus and it's away from the hustle of the busy bowness.

We really enjoyed our stay here.

The property was as listed, and it was the perfect location for exploring the local area. We stayed with our four year old and 3 month old, and the house had everything we needed. We would be happy to return!

We had a lovely stay in Silverthwaite.

We found the cottage to be spacious and very comfortable. It is easy to get to and provided great access to both Windermere and Bowness by car or on foot. We did had to buy ourselves a frying pan during our stay since the one in the property was way past its best and the kitchen could do with another baking tray or two for the oven. However, everything else was great and we enjoyed the comfortable recliners in the lounge every evening whilst relaxing after long walks. The beds were very comfortable too and we slept very well at the property. We will consider staying at Silverthwaite again.
