A delightful cottage in a friendly little town, with walks & glorious countryside around you.

Cosy & very comfortable, exceptionally well equipped too. We were made to feel very welcome by the charming owner, Sally Ann. I would not hesitate to recommend this property. .

Exceptional property with great parking and a very short walk into the village for cafes, pubs and Fish & Chips.

Everything you needed for a relaxing holiday. It's our 3rd year in Middleton in Teesdale.Visit to Low & High force waterfalls close by is a must. Bowes Museum and Raby Castle are great visits too. Mainsgill Farm shop & restaurant is closed by too. Would definitely recommend this property to friends and family.

What a super place to stay and excellent for cyclists as storage in the large porch.

Lovely cottage, welcoming and comfortable.

Everything we needed was there. Loved the welcome basket which was greatly appreciated. Throughly recommend.

The accommodation is spacious, fitted with high quality fixtures and fittings and has everything required for a comfortable stay.

The only negatives are: that the bathroom is on the ground floor with no upstairs toilet, and there was a lot of HGV/tractor noise starting at 5am from the adjacent main road, this was probably due to the time of year.

Calm and relaxed environment perfect for chilling out

Low Thearns is a beautiful cottage on the edge of Middleton Teesdale.

We stayed 4 nights in May and had a brilliant time. The cottage was very clean and tasteful decorated with a well equipped kitchen Two large bedrooms and we found the beds to be very comfortable There is a lovely small garden with chairs and a small table which we made good use of. Our only issue was there is only one bathroom/toilet so not ideal for two couples. We would recommend a stay at this beautiful cottage and Middleton Teesdale is an ideal location to visit High Force which is only a short drive away.

Great accommodation with parking for two cars.

Very helpful owners ,we went for the fishing and we actually caught some ,we then released them back into the river. Plenty hot water , useful having a washing machine.So good we have booked for next year.

Lovely place to stay- cottage very nice, clean and well designed, with very good equipment etc.

The pretty little garden, with seating was well used. Ideal location for what we wanted. Local cafes and shops very useful and within walking distance. Biggest issue for us was the fact that there was only one toilet!! This created a bit of a que at some points.

An amazing luxury cottage on the edge of a beautiful village.

Plenty of walks from the door in all directions. Also good cycling area with nice smooth undulating roads, and secure cycle storage at the property. Will definitely be coming back.

Well equipped and comfortable throughout and no detail has been overlooked. A very welcome visit from the owner on our arrival.

A very well kept and presented country cottage.

Friendly but unobtrusive owner. A good example of an existing property renovation, fabulous kitchen with all mod cons available. Excellent views over the valley, with good local cafes, bars and restaurants. Very popular fish and chip shop with customers from all the local villages. Hourly bus services to main shopping centre. Downstairs bedroom and toilet/shower for those of us with minor difficulties with stairs. Comfy beds

The cottage is close to Barnard Castle and Bishop Aukland. Owner Sally very friendly and there if you need anything, definitely one of the best we have stayed in and we have stayed in a lot of lovely cottages

Located a short walk from the town centre which has numerous cafes and shops. Would highly recommend to friends and family and hope to return next year.

Low Thearns is a great place to stay.

It has been beautifully and tastefully modernised, and is very comfortable and cosy. The owner lives nearby and is very helpful and welcoming. She left us some lovely welcome gifts, including eggs from her own hens. The location is perfect for all the interesting museums and galleries nearby (e.g. Auckland Project, Bowes Museum, Locomotion and Hopetown, Raby Castle) and for beautiful walks. We've had a great week. Highly recommended!

Five star property.

Sally Ann was a great Host Nothing was too much trouble and the accommodation was as advertised. Beautiful stylish and spotlessly clean cottage with a good welcome pack and generous starter pack for the fire. It will be difficult to better this accommodation.

After plent yof walks It was great to return to this beautiful cottage, The furnishings are high-end, the bed was so comfortable, and we lacked for nothing in terms of equipment.

It has all the homely charm of a traditional cottage with the modern conveniences and elegant finishes of a five-star stay. A truly fantastic and restorative break.

Lower Thearns is a beautiful property.

It was spotlessly clean when we arrived. It mixes traditional features and all the modern requirements for a good holiday stay. We've stayed in Middleton-in-Teesdale for holidays for over 20 years. So many places to visit locally and further afar. Newcastle is great for shopping (big M&S), the Lake District is just over the hills to the west and the Yorkshire Dales just to the south. Scenic routes in all directions. The village itself has a very well-stocked Co-op supermarket, a newsagents, butcher, restaurants, cafes and a very good chippy, all in walking distance or free parking nearby. We're going back later this year. It's that good!

This cottage has been restored and appointed to a very high standard with no corners cut or expense spared in ensuring its guests are comfortable and want for nothing.

Sally Ann is a kind and genuine host and will leave no stone unturned to ensure your stay goes smoothly and trouble free. If you’re looking for a two bedroom cottage on the edge of a thriving village then you’ll do well to better Low Thearns

Stayed for a week as a party of two.

A really well appointed holiday home that offers an excellent location in terms of access to the beautiful local surroundings as well as being a short walk to shops and local pubs and restaurants. The owner made sure we had everything we needed from a welcome basket to advice on good walks and local attractions. Feels like a Boutique style guest house - no hesitation in recommending this property - well deserved 10/10 from us.

Superb property in Ideal location for walking holiday

This was a fantastic cottage, spotlessly clean, warm and comfortable.

I would not hesitate in recommending this place to others. The location was perfect. The owner had thought of everything you could need.

This property is delightful!

Tastefully furnished and everything you need supplied. There are plenty walks nearby and the owner kindly supplied details of these and was very helpful. The property is within walking distance of cafes, pubs, gift shops and a supermarket yet in a peaceful setting. A true gem and we would love to return!

This is our second visit to Low Thearns.

We have been staying in holiday cottages for over 20 years and this is the best one we have ever stayed in. The property is warm, comfortable and well equipped and the thoughtful owner Sally-Ann, has furnished and decorated the cottage so tastefully it really is outstanding. There is so much to do within half an hour’s drive and lots of local walks too. The village is picturesque, with friendly locals and plenty of eateries plus a Co-op. Book this property you will not regret it, the only problem is you will compare every cottage you stay in afterwards to Low Thearns, and you will struggle to find anywhere as fabulous.

The cottage is comfortable, clean and very well equipped. The welcome pack and free range eggs were lovely, a real special touch, and very much appreciated. The owners are there if you need anything. Sally Ann and her family provide that personal touch, which is nice. I have already shared our gratitude with Sally Ann for their help during our stay. We enjoyed a relaxing week at Low Thearns, just what we needed.

We stayed at Low Thearns for a long weekend to celebrate our 5th Wedding Anniversary and we couldn't have chosen better!

What a marvellous property, Sally-Ann has thought of everything.

The property is comfortable, clean and has everything you need for a great, relaxing break away. The local eateries are great, especially The Forrester's. Great walks. Thank you for one of the best stays we've had through Sykes Cottages. Would highly recommend.

A perfect stay.

Cottage was very comfortable, clean, & well equipped, and made to be homely. A great area to explore. The owners are very friendly and are there if you need anything. We will be coming back to Low Thearns to continue exploring the area. Highly recommended!

A superb property & very helpful owner.

We had a lovely stay. The weather could have been kinder but it didn't matter as the cottage was so cosy, well equipped & of a high standard. Everything catered for even games for young children. Close to amenities and lovely walks. Excellent.

Beautiful contemporary cottage in a lovely area.

Only 5 mins drive from high and low force waterfalls. Also , only 15 mins drive to the lovely town of Barnard Castle with lovely walks . We enjoyed the walk from the castle to the Abbey along the river. Cottage has all top of the range facilities and everything you would need. Lovely log burner. We had a wonderful time and 4 days of dry ,sunny weather in November!

Just returned from Low Thearns.

This is by far the best holiday cottage I have ever stayed in. The owners are amazing so welcoming and nothing was to much trouble. The property itself is tastefully decorated and felt so homely. Everything you could need to enjoy your stay was there. Even thought of the little touches including a welcome basket. What a little gem of a cottage. We will definitely be back.

Fabulous cottage with every facility.

So warm, cosy and homely. Sally Anne was so welcoming and friendly. Beautiful area for walking and sightseeing or just relaxing in front of the log burner watching a film with a glass of wine. If you get chance go to High Force and see the waterfall, breathtaking. Certainly will be returning

This is a beautiful cottage, every attention to detail has been thought through and everything is of a high standard and quality.

The cottage is so cosy and spotlessly clean. We stayed during the recent storm and it was a perfect excuse to stay in, put the fire on, drink wine, watch a good film and enjoy the cottage. It’s situated in a lovely village and we would recommend the local butchers and Samuel James coffee shop and deli. Barnard Castle is a nice place to visit and high force a lovely place to walk to. The owner Sally Ann came to introduce herself and check we were ok. When we arrived the lamps and heating were on creating a lovely warm welcome and a thoughtful welcome pack was awaiting us. I would recommend this cottage to anyone you will not be disappointed, we have stayed at many cottages and this is by far the best we have stayed in.

Absolutely beautiful cottage.

Outstandingly well appointed, clean and comfortable. Spacious property in which four adults were able to enjoy warmth & space. Tastefully and beautifully furnished & decorated. Stay was an 80th Birthday present for my Mum. She, like ourselves was overjoyed at the stay and shall remain impressed. Adequate off road parking for our SUV.

Very comfortable seating and beds. The welcome pack was a lovely surprise from the owner Sally Ann, who checked that we had all we needed after a couple of days, and was very friendly. She also sent us an email of suggestions of what was to do in the area and some local walks, which we did. A very well presented cottage. We would recommend Low Thearns, also High Thearns.

This is a fabulous property.

The cottage is cosy, comfortable, beautifully decorated and well equipped. The owners have spared no expense in creating an interior worthy of a magazine. There is so much to do in Durham county we couldn't fit it all in. The owner was really helpful and sent us links for walks and places to go. Everyone we met in the village and in the county as a whole was extremely friendly. We can't wait to come back.

Low Thearns is a fabulous cottage.

The inside is very spacious and furnished beautifully and very comfortably. The owner lives nearby and popped to see us a couple of times to ensure everything was ok. There is a small garden to the side which we were able utilise most days. The scenery is amazing and there are numerous walks to enjoy nearby. I would highly recommend.

This is one of the nicest cottages we have stayed in.

Everything has been done with care and attention to produce a great holiday experience. The cottage has a lovely location in a village with a range of amenities and is set in a part of the county that is ideal for exploring this area. The hosts Sally Ann and Andrew couldn’t have been more helpful.

I can honestly say this was the best cottage I have ever rented, a fantastic location and so nicely upgraded with high end furnishings and the hosts are brilliant!

Hard to put into words how good it really was. Thanks for wonderful stay. Can’t wait to come back.

Like many providers the lounge seating whilst very nice to look at was not conducive to lounging around.

Preference for higher backed settee to sink into especially after a long walk. A minor point as the property was immaculately furnished throughout
