Description

Sitting within a desirable location from which to explore the Lake District National Park, in walking distance of the charming village centre of Hawkshead, you can find this traditionally-styled cottage, Syke Cottage.

Boasting character throughout with some parts of the cottage dating back to the early 18th century, with Beatrix Potter's nurse once living next door too, this historic holiday cottage is the perfect choice for a family escape to Cumbria.

Enter into the large porch where you can find a good host of utility essentials including both a washing machine and tumble dryer, of great assistance for those longer stays, where you can also find an electric stove where you can warm up your toes after a day of rambling.

Move through into the impressive country kitchen, hosting character in its Belfast sink and stone-flag floor, where an AGA takes centre stage letting you prepare all your family-favourites with ease, as well as there being a separate gas oven and hob for flexibility when cooking.

Gather together in the dining room with quaint antiques dotted around, this homely room is the ultimate spot to spend time with your loved ones over a hearty meal as you plan a fun-filled itinerary.

End your evenings in the comfort of the inviting sitting room, where a woodburning stove sits within the rustic exposed-stone inglenook, the wooden beams lining the ceiling adding to the beautiful charm of the property, while the HD TV with Sky and DVD player is sure to provide hours of entertainment on a rainy day.

The ground floor also hosts a wonderful bathroom, so you can indulge in a relaxing soak to end each day perfectly, while you can find a further bathroom resting on the first floor with a shower over too, letting you choose how best to unwind before catching up on your rest.

The bedrooms are all elegantly decorated with tasteful decor and soft furnishings, with neutral hues bringing a calming aura from which to relax in as well as far-reaching views over the rolling fields and towards Claife Heights.

Spend your mornings out making the most of the beautiful countryside that surrounds the property, with your own private lawn where you can soak up the sun with a refreshing coffee to start the day.

Take the short, scenic walk into the centre of Hawkshead, where you will be greeted by a good selection of cafés, tea rooms and pubs where you can enjoy a hearty lunch in between adventures, before exploring the quaint streets housing gift shops, clothing stores art galleries and more, a trip to The Chocolate Factory being a must to pick up a tasty treat to bring back home.

Visit the Beatrix Potter Gallery where you can marvel at the original illustrations of the famous children's writer, while a trip to Near Sawrey will let you explore the National Trust wonder of Hill Top, Potter's rural farmhouse where she got much of her inspiration for her books.

The National Trust property of Wray Castle is also in easy reach in Low Wray, perfect for those travelling with little ones with its play trail, as well as its Gothic architecture and views over Lake Windermere being remarkably impressive.

Venture over to Lake Windermere itself to find a plethora of watersporting opportunities such as canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding and much more, with plenty of pleasant waterside eateries here too where you can celebrate a special occasion, or simply explore the wider area of the Lake District National Park where you can tackle mountain peaks, roam amongst spectacular scenery and simply soak in the beauty of this desirable location.

For a memorable holiday escape with your loved ones, choose Syke Cottage as your wonderful holiday base.

We came to Sykes Cottage due to a relocation.

The original cottage we had booked through Sykes - the Coach House Ambleside had no WiFi on arrival. After many calls and emails re the Wi Fi which could not be resolved, we were offered a relocation to Sykes Cottage Hawkshead The Coach House Ambleside was as advertised -equipped and furnished to a high standard with a very comfortable bed !! As Sykes Cottage Hawkshead was owned by the same people we assumed it would be of similar standard - sadly we were disappointed -the bed wasn’t very comfy and the house as generally not of the same high standard as the Coach House!! We found it very disappointing that after we left the Coach House to be relocated at Sykes Cottage the Coach House was re advertised as vacant with WI Fi !! Even though reviews back to August stated disappointment on arrival that the Wi Fi wasn’t working. Surely this is something which should be addressed and resolved by the owners ! We would not return to Skye Cottage Hawkshead

Stayed here before- thats why we returned!

Lovely cottage. Comfy and different vibe as a later time in the year. Could cosy down with log burner and a glass of something and a good read. Issues? Bumped head in shower and getting out bath (but it is an old cottage!) . Plug in dowstairs bath needs to be tighter. But this is nitpicking. Central position. Good walks (eg Tarn How, Hill Top) as well as easy access to other lakes. Easy stroll into village for meal (Queens Head). Grammar school worth a visit. Cottage

Skyke Cottage was a cosy, traditional cottage with a modern twist.

The location was fantastic, just a 5 minute walk to the local pubs and shops, with everything you need.
