Description

Two miles from Grizedale Forest and its visitor centre, and six miles from Hawkshead.

This charming, quaint cottage is attached to the owners’ traditional, 17th century Lakeland farmhouse, located in the pretty hamlet of Rusland in a peaceful part of the Lake District.

This romantic holiday home is an ideal base for couples wishing to spend time together in this idyllic setting.

Decorated and furnished in an attractive, elegant style, with open beams and a spiral staircase, the cottage offers a first floor open plan living room with a woodburning stove, an external door and a modern kitchen and dining area.

There is a ground floor bedroom with a king-size double bed, a bathroom and an enclosed courtyard garden, which has an abundance of pretty flowers and plants throughout the year.

Guests can also enjoy a stroll around the owners’ extensive gardens.

Being located in the hamlet of Rusland, just six miles from Hawkshead, there are endless lanes and paths to explore, either on foot or on your bike.

Why not head out to Grizedale and discover the beautiful routes that wind their way through the forest, and perhaps visit Hawkshead and sample some of the local beer in one of the old inns?

Visit Hill Top, where Beatrix Potter lived and hop on the Windermere car ferry to explore the bustling town of Bowness-on-Windermere.

This special cottage is just the spot for a relaxing, romantic Lake District holiday.

I would not change a thing and very much hope to return. One of the best places I have ever stayed.

I had a wonderful week exploring the local valley and beyond by bike and foot in March 2026.

The cottage is in a beautiful valley that’s so quiet and peaceful, set away from the crowds in the lakes but also not so far that you can’t access it easily. If you bring bikes you can use the garage for storage which is perfect. The views from the cottage are magnificent and the bird life amazing. Graham and Gaynor are very welcoming and the scones on arrival are delicious. You do need good mobility/agility to manage the winding stairs and step over into the bath to use the shower! Will definitely be back at some point to enjoy a peaceful week in beautiful countryside
