  • "We stayed here before so knew the layout."

    The place seemed a bit more tired than last time not helped by fact that hadn’t been cleaned properly (which Sykes promised a gesture of £50 towards but 3 weeks later not received). It was a wet week and with 5 adults impossible to get stuff dry in time for next day- no room to hang anything out. Great location but other than that not a walker’s cottage

  • "Beautiful location and very well equipped and tastefully modernised cottage."

    The areas that require attention are: Bins outside was full. Instructions on cottage facilities was hard to find One shelve in a cupboard was broken Some minor staining on sheets - they were clean however and had been washed. Three recycling bins included but no instructions on what went where. Letterbox needed draft proofing. TV instructions poor and complex to use. If these things were fixed it would be top notch.

  • "Lovely and perfect for our needs."

    Very comfortable stay. Has a large stone flagged side entrance room which is brilliant for muddy boots etc. Kitchen well equipped but a hand blender and mixing jug would have been helpful.

  • "Another wonderful and restful holiday in this beautiful cottage."

    Thank you to Sykes for standing by when we had a “planned electricity power cut” for one day. Happily, all systems resumed functioning when the power was turned on again at the end of the day.

  • "On arrival on 16th January the cottage was cold with no heating on."

    There were still Xmas decorations in the living area and a small Xmas tree in front of the television which was in the way. There was some leftover cheese in the fridge and old bread wrappers in the bread bin. The wood store only had 3 pieces of wood, no matches or firelighters provided which should be the case in winter or at least advised to bring with you. The fire grate is burnt out with a hole in it so couldn’t have a fire anyway. The property felt dirty as if it had been given a quick wipe over following previous guests, and not thoroughly cleaned. Only the main bedroom linen had been changed. The beds in the twin room looked like they had been slept in. Landing radiator was not functioning, when reported the lady I spoke to was rude and abrupt. The guy who visited was very helpful and polite. The lack of cleanliness spoilt my holiday and made me feel ill at ease with the property which is a pity because the location is stunning. I hope this feedback is passed to the owners. Overall very disappointing customer service, I expected more and the rental price was not cheap.

  • "This property is lovely in lots of ways."

    It’s very well equipped (sharp kitchen knives!), extremely comfortable and warm, and it’s hard to imagine a better position as long as you’ve brought all your food with you - or the neighbours have some salt to spare :) Three drawbacks, one fixed, two fixable. If five people return from a wet walk, there’s very little space to hang coats, dry boots and so on. Secondly, everything is new and comfy *except* the double bed: the mattress is very soft indeed and you roll into the middle. OK for some couples I guess?! And finally the 2013 TV is showing its age - you can’t screen share from a an iPhone which was the only way I could see that you might watch Bake Off on Ch4 (no terrestrial signal). First world problems etc. As a small aside, the kitchen sink overflow isn’t plumbed properly and empties into the cupboard underneath. We only found this out late on the last day: as far as I can see there’s no way to send a message to the owners about something non urgent (we cleaned it up), only Sykes answerphone or a horrible chatbot. If it sounds like I’m moaning: I’m not. It’s a great house.

  • "Lovely cottage in a beautiful, peaceful location."

    Extremely well equipped. Would definitely recommend and it is on our shortlist of Lakeland properties to return to. Could I suggest that someone update the information folders in the cottage. Some of the leaflets seem to be out of date. Bins - we put them all out, as requested, on the Monday. The household waste was emptied, but not the others. We left them out as per the information folder - it said that because of the binmen strike they may come on another day. They were full to the top, so hadn't been emptied in some time. We really weren't sure what to do for the best. Other than that, it was a fantastic four days and we now feel totally rejuvenated!

  • "The downpipe from the rear gutter, outside the rear upstairs bedroom is blocked and as a consequence water is overflowing and splashing down the wall."

    The wall light nearest to the front door is prone to bouts of flickering, which suggests a loose collection. One light bulb in the ceiling of the kitchen area needs to be replaced.

    Thank you very much for letting us know about these matters. This helps us keep on top of maintenance. Unfortunately, at this time of year the falling leaves to tend to block the gutters!! As soon as we were notified we arranged for the gutter to be cleared and we have also booked in for the electrics to be sorted. Once again thanks for the feedback. We hope to see you again soon!   • "We were very happy with the cottage, the only thing that seemed not to work perfectly were the waste bins…other people seemed to use our plastics bin for their general waste!"
