Ideally situated for lots of great walks from the door.

We enjoyed our week's holiday at the Smithy.

Comfortable, quiet & cosy. The property had all we needed to make our stay pleasurable.

A spacious yet cosy cottage ideally suited for exploring this corner of the Yorkshire Dales.

Good communications from the owners helped set up our stay. Really enjoyed the bath, brilliant for a relaxing soak after a days hiking. Would love to visit here again.

We had a lovely holiday in the Yorkshire Dales, staying at The Smithy.

A very comfortable cottage for two people or a family of four. The cottage was clean, well maintained and had all the essentials you would need. Amazing walks from the front door, and the scenery was superb too. Hopefully we will return one day.

We loved the cottage, comfortable and well equipped.

Beautiful views from the lounge and upstairs bedroom. The village of Keld is remote and off the main road so nice and quiet except for walkers passing through. Few camper vans on nearby farm. Good hotel/pub within easy walk with good food. Booking recommended. Also Cafe open nearby serving teas/ coffee, breakfast and cake. Well located for many beautiful walks and Keld is set in amazing breath taking scenery. The village is remote with no big food stores or petrol stations in close proximity. Hawes is closest town with a Spar and Petol station. Several good pubs all serving great food a short drive away (3 to 5miles away) .

we had a good week in The Smithy .

spacious but warm and cosy, every thing we needed. my only problem was as an 74 year old who has not climbed in and out of a bath for a long while due to a bit of arthritis I found the ensuite shower room very cold. Would stay again, we visit the Dales at least once a year and Keld is a lovely area. We drove home overnight to avoid the traffic got home in record time with no traffic holdups which ended the week perfectly.

Absolutely stunning,a wonderful cosy home highly recommended, a definite do not miss, fantastic location for endless lovely walks, beautiful little village, wonderful residents, only downside we didn't stay long enough

We had a wonderful stay at the Smithy.

The cottage is comfortable, clean and well equipped, with lovely views. We had a nice welcome from Stuart and a very tasty lemon drizzle cake from Doris! Some beautiful waterfalls are a short walk from the front door. A great place to get away from it all!

Wonderful location with numerous walks straight from the door.

A comfortable cottage in a peaceful village surrounded by beautiful countryside. The parking area is small and there is no garden but there are splendid rural views from the back windows. Welcoming but unintrusive owners.

A great base for some great local walking. The cottage is very well equipped, clean and comfortable. Friendly and welcoming hosts, we would happily come back to stay at this property again.

This is a terrific property that has been finished by the owner in a comfortable, personable style with many amenities.

You can feel the generous spirit of the owners in the little things provided and the immaculate condition of the property. We were delighted by our choice and heartily recommend this house for anyone desiring to explore the area. The many great walks that start from your front door will amaze you! National trails and local footpaths are both great.

We stayed at The Smithy for 4 days and we felt very welcome.

Stuart introduced himself and said if there was any problems he was only next door.The cottage was clean and well presented.We would highly recommend this cottage for it's location and peaceful surroundings.

The Smithy is very well equiped,nicely decorated and very cosy, and has great views of the surrounding countryside. Doris made us feel very welcome and her lemon drizzle cake was amazing.

The Smithy is the best cottage we have stayed in.

It is well located for walks in the Dales and driving distance to many other lovely attractions and villages. It is two storeys high and the upper storey has beautiful rural views from a comfortable living room. The bed was very comfortable. Hot water was well supplied and could be boosted by the coal/wood burner. The whole cottage is beautifully renovated, warm and cosy and spotlessly clean. It has excellent cooking utensils. The friendly owners live a few yards away and gave us full privacy. We rate it with the highest stars possible.

We have stayed there twice and plan on returning next year so that tells you how much we like The Smithy.

We had a lovely stay in the beautiful cottage .

. everything was perfect for us . We enjoyed all the seasons in one week while we were there making it a truly wonderful experience. The hosts were very welcoming but not obtrusive at any point . We will be back again for sure .

Beautiful, character cottage in Swaledale.

Well equipped kitchen. Multifuel burner on ground floor made for a cosy feel. Availability of open fire in the first floor lounge would have encouraged us to use the more comfortable seating there. Views were limited. Parking in courtyard for one car only. Very tight for any vehicle over mid size. Good position for walks from the cottage. Very friendly host.

Keld is so quiet and peaceful. It is also an excellent starting point for exploring the Dales. When we are back in this area we will certainly stay here again. Oh and Doris, the lemon drizzle cake was delicious! Thank you.

We had a fabulous time in The Smithy in Keld and would 100% recommend.

We wanted a cottage that was secluded, quiet, well-equipped and comfortable and The Smithy ticked all of our boxes and then some. We had a variety of walks from the front door; Lapwing, Oystercatchers and House Martins viewed from the upper floor and let’s not forget the sheep outside the bottom floor windows! Doris - the owner - was lovely. She introduced herself on our first evening and presented us with a homemade lemon drizzle cake. We’ll certainly be returning, if only for the cake!

Storm Arwen resulted in there being no power at the property from Friday night.

Mercifully, the cottage had a multi-fuel stove which provided hot water and heated one of the radiators. The owners provided plenty of candles, kindling .coal and logs. So we enjoyed our stay but obviously we could not use the electric cooker, kettle, toaster, dishwasher etc. but appreciate this was no one's fault and was an unprecedented situation.

We really enjoyed our week at The Smithy in the lovely village of Keld.

It provided everything you needed in a holiday cottage, clean, comfortable and well equipped. There are also a lot of homely touches that add to the property. The owners are very helpful and hospitable. The local area provided some wonderful walking. We would happily return to this property.

The Smithy was immaculate in presentation with all the comforts of home. Many thanks to the owners who live next door, Stuart and Doris who were good hosts who frequently interacted and made a point of saying hello. A really lovely experience for my family and I.

Very central location for Upper Swaledale.

keld is a small isolated village and really best suited walkers

As it was a cool April , 2 of the storage heaters are not up to modern spec and gave very little heat ,and the downstairs is cold when the wood burner is not flashed up There were not enough glasses .

There was plenty champagne , wine and beer glasses but no tumblers ,which I found rather odd . Must be a COVID thing I was reassured by the owner that the heaters are going to be updated .

The Smithy is a lovely house, spacious, warm, spotlessly clean and well equipped.

The multi fuel burner is very efficient. Parking is great, just outside the front door. The owners Stuart and Doris were very friendly and helpful. The home made lemon drizzle cake was delicious. We intend to return.

What a lovely cottage.

The location was absolutely beautiful, with fantastic walks from the door. The cottage was wonderful. Warm, clean, cosy, with beautiful views. Everything provided that we needed. Lovely, friendly owners. Will definitely visit again.

Close to lots of waterfalls and walking routes. No local shop so come prepared or you need to drive elsewhere. Very friendly host.

Beautiful cottage in the heart of keld.

Very warm and cosy with log fire. Had heaps of snow so very picturesque. Cottage well equipped. If you want to experience the dales this is the area that signifies yorkshire countryside. We have stayed before, need to stay in summer now. Regards to Stuart and Doris

The owners were extremely helpful and did everything they could to make us feel welcome. Beautiful countryside, great pub in Muker, very enjoyable pre-Christmas break. Would highly recommend The Smithy.

We had a lovely week in this roomy but cosy cottage.

The views are wonderful and the lovely owners so hospitable and helpful. We have used Sykes cottages many time for booking our holidays and always had a great experience!

We all had a thoroughly enjoyable holiday at the Smithy and the sheep coming up to look in the window was comical a most relaxing week thanks

The owners live close by and were friendly and helpful but not intrusive.

Very peaceful location and it felt like home away from home. Beautiful area (Keld), would highly recommend. Only negative is there was no garden.

The Smithy was a great place to stay!

Lots of space, beautifully and really thoughtfully furnished (comfy beds, big bin, extremely well equipped kitchen, lots of maps and guide books...). Stuart and Doris were friendly and helpful, and the walks from the door were many and varied with spectacular scenery.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at The Smithy and would recommend it to anyone and hopefully make a return visit ourselves sometime soon.

A cloakroom would have been preferable to the ground floor shower cubicle. Tell Stuart I wasn’t impressed with the deluxe edition of Scrabble as Rosie gave me a right trashing,beating me by 143 points!! Wonderful trip otherwise!

The Smithy in Keld was a perfect place to spend a month on our trip home to England from Canada.

The cottage was perfect in everyway, great practical layout, very clean, and comfortably furnished. The water is hot and plentiful and the large shower on the main floor was nice for our mum, who celebrated her 90th birthday here. Our hosts Stuart and Doris were fantastic, warm, friendly and helpful. We will definately return again on our next trip back to England and recommend to anyone looking for a convenient cozy cottage for exploring the Yorkshire Dales and surrounding area.

Keld is an very remote location but de cottage was very comfortable and cosy.

Everything we needed was present and even more than that. Ideal place for people who want to go walking (for many miles !) in an breathtaking landscape.

Keld is a superb choice for those who want peace and quiet combined with the opportunity to do some serious walking.

Just what we were looking for! Its remoteness may make it less attractive as a base to tour the Dales.

It was a wonderful cottage: spacious, warm, comfortable and quiet.

We needed a quiet place to relax in, and this was perfect.
