Description

Superb scenery and a sumptuous slate-built, traditional cottage in sought-after Troutbeck! The intriguing name of The Curious Orange is complemented by the array of indulgent and unexpected features that this jewel of a holiday home has to offer. A bespoke and romantic hideaway in the stunning surroundings of the gorgeously green Troutbeck Valley, this a place to sample the best of Lakeland and best of Lakelovers.

Troutbeck must be one of the most peaceful of the Lakeland valleys, and one of the prettiest. Winding lanes, dry-stone walls, and steep sloping fields characterise the local scenery, and the views from The Curious Orange are worthy of the fabulous interior, and spread out in all directions, a panorama of sublime countryside valley vistas!

Internally, you will find everything is set up just perfectly for a romantic holiday for two. Wooden beams in the open-plan living area, exposed feature walls and slate flag flooring are among the classic features attesting to the authenticity of your little home-from-home, while the pure sophistication of the designer kitchen blends perfectly with this old world charm.

Internal design here has been handled with a pleasingly idiosyncratic style that really indulges the senses. The zodiacal coloured lighting twinkling so charmingly in the luxurious shower room is one of many little touches that make a stay in The Curious Orange is really special.

No romantic country cottage break is quite complete without a cosy wood-burner to return to after your day's adventures, and this homely cottage has a lovely cast iron stove nestling beneath a traditional wooden lintel in the slate hearth. Upstairs the inviting bedroom is beautifully warm and inviting, and benefits from its own dressing-room, an idyllically restful and personal space for the two of you to fully unwind.

The outdoor possibilities here are endless, and afterwards the cosy welcome of The Mortal Man Inn, a walkers and locals favourite, is about 450 yards from your doorstep, so you can indulge yourselves as much as you like without worrying about the journey home!

Lovely cottage in a great position with plenty of local walks from the door and other areas easily accessible.

Very quiet area but 2 pubs 1 either side both with good food, dog friendly and only a 5 minute walk from the cottage. A nice tea room/ post office in the village too. The cottage was very clean and had a nice cosy downstairs area - ideal for 2 people with well equipped kitchen area, dining area and plenty of sitting space. The bedroom was lovely with a huge comfortable bed and the bathroom had a lovely walk in rainwater shower as well as a hand held shower head. The dressing room was very useful for storage of clothes and for getting ready in the mornings and before retiring to bed. The plug in torches were very useful. Good communications from the owners although we had no need to contact them - but good to know we could have if we had a problem.

The location was beautiful, however we were disappointed with the accommodation.

The lounge & kitchen area were very dark & even though it was sunny they were cold areas to sit in comfortably. The lounge window was in desperate need of cleaning. The bedroom upstairs was the nicest room to be in & definitely the most comfortable. The overall cleanliness of the house was only average, the bathroom in particularly was not clean, I had to go & purchase antibacterial wipes to clean the toilet & shower before we were happy to use them. Dried urine was on the toilet seat & hairs & dust were on the inside & outer side of the shower. The floor was dusty with cobwebs in the corner behind the door. The WiFi only worked intermittently we were unable to watch TV as it would cut out every 5mins or so. My husband was unable to use his laptop successfully as the signal kept cutting out. The owners did try to help with this after I contacted them & things did improve slightly when we logged on to next doors WiFi. In conclusion we were disappointed overall & definitely feel it was over priced at £170 a night.
