What guests are saying
We were massively surprised by how well-equipped and spacious this cottage is!
There were 3 adults and a dog in our party, and we had no space issues whatsoever. The facilities are fantastic, though adding an electric car charger would be a great "nice-to-have" upgrade. Our only minor drawbacks involved bed sizes: the only room with an ensuite features two single beds that felt a bit short for someone 5'10" to sleep comfortably. Combining those into a zip-and-link king or double would make it a true master bedroom. Additionally, the double bed was also a little short; since there is plenty of space in the room, upgrading to a king-size in the future would be a great touch. While these bed sizes would unfortunately prevent us from booking as a group of 6 adults, we still had a wonderful stay and would happily recommend it!
Firstly, the situation of this cottage is magnificent and the internet access commendable, but this delightful house does need some attention.
As others have commented the sofas are on their last legs and generally there is an air of delapidation with much of the paintwork being tatty including the garden furniture. We also suffered a minor inconvenience when two of the three toilets had problems and one radiator had a bowl underneath to catch the drips. After discussion with the owners, plumbers visited and things were put right, but the last thing you want to spend time on when on holiday is the maintenance of someone else's property. I have noticed that with their expansion it has got much more difficult to get hold of anyone at Sykes, and the owners' contact details seem to fall under the category of state secrets. I'm sure that with a bit more love and care this house will be tremendous find.
Felldale is a tardis!
And its located in an amazing part of the lake district, with many great walks, from the end of the long narrow lane. Patterdale, glenridding, angle tarn, brothers water, ullswater and for the adventurous helvellyn are right on the doorstep. The cottage itself could use some tlc. The sofa in the front lounge is worn and torn and the furniture in the top lounge seemed more suited to a conservatory and the amazing room could fit a much more comfortable sofa than the sofa bed. The TV in the top lounge was also hard to watch as it seemed discoloured. The radiators in the twin and back bedroom didnt seem to come on which ment the nights were a tad chilly. King size bed was really comfortable but the twins were very creaky. Showers were fantastic but will bring our own towels next time as the ones provided were small. Another blue bin bag could be useful. Kitchen well equipped with everything we needed and the unexpected milk, eggs, bread etc were very appreciated. We saw the rabbits and the red squirrel came each day. Already looked at dates to come back but due to how lovely felldale is, its not surprising that most dates are already booked.
