The Kennedy House Stone Cross Mansion

A very lovely, relaxing place to stay with excellent facilities for the whole family.

The Kennedy apartment we stayed in has a massive glass lantern rooflight spanning the mezzanine lounge and the double-height, open-plan kitchen and dining area. It has a real wow factor when you first arrive, and the welcome hamper waiting for us was such a nice touch. The shared garden is fantastic and fully equipped with outdoor games for everyone, including football, table tennis, badminton, plastic axe throwing, and a putting green. Within the Grade II-listed main house reception is an amazing indoor atrium with a pool table, along with plenty of comfortable lounge seating to relax and unwind. Wi-Fi is provided but drops out daily and requires you to log in again to regain access. The Wi-Fi speed is relatively slow but still reasonable at around 80–90 Mbps for general use. One set of towels is provided for each person. If you are staying for a week, this isn't ideal, but fortunately the washing machine has a built-in dryer. The kitchen has everything you need. We found a couple of glass cups with minor chips around the rims, which, to be fair, could easily have been missed during cleaning, as the apartment was otherwise clean and tidy when we arrived. There are enough plates and utensils for four people, but there are only two egg cups. There is also no microwave, so no microwave popcorn for movie nights. We couldn't draw the curtains on the smaller, tall kitchen window facing the wooden outbuilding at night because the chain pulley wasn't working. Fortunately, the window is positioned high above pavement level. As the kitchen sits beneath the double-height glass lantern rooflight, cooking smells and heat tend to become trapped, as there is no way to ventilate the mezzanine. There are no high level openable windows, only the electric three-speed fan provided. We were fortunate to have missed the heatwave the week before. There is a vinyl record player with a few classic records, but I wasn't able to demonstrate it to our boys because a two-pin plug adapter wasn't provided. There is also a private front patio area to relax in, but we didn't make use of it as the furniture was covered in cobwebs and debris. In addition, the sun doesn't reach this area until late in the day because it faces north-west. Despite these minor issues, we had a lovely stay at Stonecross Mansion.

Beautiful place walking distance to Ulverston and short distance to lakes and attractions

Was a exceptional place to stay. The surrounding the standard of the property We stayed in the Kennedy house apartment. My only criticism was that the lounge was on the mezzanine, this was fine but it has a roof skylight with no blind or was of opening. The heat in the room was unbearable. A large fan was provided but it wasn't enough. Overall the best place we have stayed in a holiday cottage/building. We arrived a day late and had to leave early due to medical problems but if time allows will visit again. Even the knives were sharp and thats a first!

We really enjoyed staying here with our dog.

Home from home and even had an enclosed garden area with a gate making it very dog friendly. It was just a short walk into the town and there was an Aldi and marks and Spencer at the end of the drive, so had a full range of food to choose from. The grounds to the property were immaculate. It is also well located for both the sea and lake Windermere and Coniston. Will probably visit again in the future.

I would totally do this again and again.

Lovely dog friendly apartment and great that you can walk into Ulverston.

Our dog was very sad to leave, as we were. Days that you don’t want to drive there is enough within walking distance. The Farmers served up lovely food and the Rainbow Chinese is very good .

Kennedy House was perfect and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

It was very dog friendly and lots of areas to go a dog walk. The staff were friendly and helpful. The house was warm and comfortable, and had everything we needed to eat, drink and be entertained. It was a short walk into Ulverston town centre and M&S and Aldi were at the bottom of the drive. The main building foyer was stunning and the whole building is well preserved and worth seeing. We will definitely be back.

This is an outstanding property.

It has been incredibly well renovated and is finished incredibly well. I would happily stay here again. Although it was 2 bedroom, we went away as a couple and it was perfect. It has a great location to simply walk out from and get some food or stay in and cook dinner. The kitchen is very well equipped. The top mezzanine level is absolutely amazing for relaxing. The property is large, yet cozy. I cannot recommend it enough. Would happily live here!

Responsiveness to queries before the booking wasn't great but once we arrived the staff at the location where wonderfully helpful and the property was a delight to stay in.

5 star accomodation, very unusual layout, loved the split level mezzanine and spectacticular skylight

Lovely accommodation, fabulous setting.

Only minor issue was the upstairs sitting area was too hot to enjoy, as the windows did not open, and it got too hot underneath the amazing skylight roof. Nice but needed means of cooling, either windows for a through breeze, or aircon. We mentioned it to a member of staff, and he confirmed windows did not open. Did not spoil enjoyment of stay, we simply spent evenings outside, but thought it worth mentioning. Thank you.

Amazing property!

! Clean & comfortable with everything you need. A couple of pint glasses wouldn't go amiss but we'd taken our own so all ok. Would gladly book again.

Wonderfully clean and well equipped. Exactly as advertised and cannot fault anything. Would love to come back and play a rematch at the pool table with my partner

A beautiful building and grounds.

Great activities to pass the time, both inside and outdoors. The living area was the highlight with a spacious, comfy sofa and well equipped kitchen. Convenient location, with amenities a short walk away. Only slight negatives for us were the memory foam mattress and the rather subdued lighting in the kitchen and living area. Overall a fantastic place and would highly recommend.

Kennedy House is immaculate, in a lovely setting.

Mike was helpful, met Melvin - great dog. The week went too fast, all in all an enjoyable stay. Our Springer settled in well and loved the walks around the grounds. Will book again.

A lovely,light and warm apartment.

Great kitchen facilities, certainly seemed to have everything we needed for our stay. Massive sofa in the lounge to flop put on, very comfortable and nice views. Would definitely come back.

Great property, was exactly what we were hoping for.

A lovely bit of luxury. Lounge is great for relaxing after busy days out exploring. Kitchen/diner is like new, I did struggle a little with the low lighting in the evening when cooking, but it the day it's well lit. There is a lovely hamper for hot drinks, there are no condiments, seasoning etc, so if you plan on cooking take your own. I couldn't figure out how to get the main bathroom to heat up, but it didn't affect our stay as the en suite was lovely. Both bedrooms are great, main bed mattress is a little uncomfortable for one of us as it's a memory foam number, but it's all personal preference. I found the instructions for parking could have clarified that one of the parking spots for apartment 4 'Kennedy' is directly outside the apartment which is super convenient. Staff around the site were lovely and helpful, but I didn't receive a reply to a message I sent to the contact number, thankfully it was easily answered by someone on site. Really loved this stay and would highly recommend.

Had a fantastic stay at Kennedy House - it was even more spectacular in person than in the photos.

We had everything we needed and more for our short stay: the apartment is well appointed and really well laid out. It's rare to find somewhere so nice that also allows dogs! A special thanks to Mike for coming over at short notice to fix an issue with the TV when we arrived. We would return in a heartbeat!

Very comfortable, lots of space and beautifully designed interior. Very convenient to hop down to M&S to stock the fridge and walk into town! Wish we could have stayed longer.

Back from an amazing stay in the Kennedy Apartment.

It was beautifully furnished, very comfortable and warm. Had everything we needed and more. It’s a short stroll into Ulverston and there is an Aldi and M & S food also just down the road. Mike is on the end of the phone if you need him and was amazing, we couldn’t find where to park the car in the dark so gave him a call. We enjoyed it that much we have booked again for next year see you then.

We had a lovely week's stay at Stonecross Mansion in the Kennedy apartment.

The apartment felt like a home from home and had everything we needed for our stay. The kitchen was very well equipped (only missing a colander!) and the lounge area was great for relaxing in, in the evening. All the attractions of the Lake District are a bit of a drive away but scenery is stunning on the drive up. We also explored Ulverston which is a lovely little town. We had takeaway from the Bengal Rose restaurant and Chippy Bank, which were both excellent. We also tried Lotus Chinese but that one is to be avoided. All in all a lovely stay at Stonecross and we'd love to return in the future.

This is a very impressive place to stay.

The apartment was beautiful, with lots of conveniences such as plentiful electrical sockets with USB ports, and a very effective top-of-the-range electric hob. We loved the fabulous TV room, and all the games in the grounds outside (table tennis, boules, etc.). A couple of small niggles: some food (butter) had been left behind by a previous occupant in one of the cupboards; the tops of the lower panels of the sash windows really need a clean; and it would be great to have some towel rails -- the small hooks in the bathrooms are too small to hang the beautiful large bath towels on.

We had an absolutely fabulous stay in this apartment.

It was comfortable and clean. Ten mins walk to the town where there are a good number of great pubs and restaurants. The games (indoor and outdoor) were great and the kids loved playing cricket, pool, golf etc. There was plenty to occupy ourselves with. Great walks nearby too. Highly recommend!

We had a great stay at the Kennady House!

A great location for driving into the Lakes. The grounds were perfect for sitting out and enjoying the scenery, as well as having our own seating area outside. Booths, M&S and Aldi just down the road to for essentials. This was a luxury apartment, from the quality of the furnishings to the towels and bed linen provided. The twin bedroom can be set up as a King if you request in advance. You will not be disappointed staying here!

This was the first place we took our daughter on holiday.

She loved it so much we all did so we are hoping to come back ASAP. The owners take pride in what they do they are accommodating and helpful 10/10.

Lovely building tastefully done and well maintained.

We were there when the Dickensian festival was on which was fantastic although very busy. The apartment was ideally placed as we could walk to the village in minutes without the hassle of having to park. Well worth a visit.

The property we rented (and the entire complex) was delightful and we would love to return.

The only thing that would have made it even better was a greater provision of crockery.

I will limit my words to only say that I found it a privilege to stay in such an opulent and exclusive and comfortable property. Also, I should add that the staff are all very friendly and helpful. Great Team!

What a fabulous apartment in a stunning setting!

Spacious, great water pressure in the showers, comfortable beds and sofa, great facilities, dining and relaxing area. The grounds are great to stroll around and the owners, Gerry & Louise, are two of the nicest people you could hope to meet. Very dog friendly and within easy walking distance of a nice sized town which has a great selection of food and drinking options. We used as a base to explore Windermere, Coniston, Ullswater and the coast at Furness, in addition to local hikes on the doorstep. A great holiday made special by a fantastic apartment and friendly people.

We had a lovely week here, the apartment is wonderful.

It has everything you could possibly need, It feels really spacious. The outside patio area is perfect especially for our little dog, he could just go in and out of the apartment safely. The grounds are beautiful and you are in walking distance of the centre and it’s a lovely walk. We would definitely love to go back.

Michael was a magical host in a property that made you feel excited to be sharing in its history The apartment has been equipped to a very high standard and the secure patio was pawfect for our little dog!

We hadn’t explored the southern Lakes before and whilst the property is not in the thick of it the location worked well. Would definitely recommend
