A lovely cottage the garden is beautiful and very peaceful I would happily go back again John the owner is very accommodating jasper the dog is a delight

Forge Cottage and its garden was a wonderful sight.

We spent a lot of time outside, the pizza oven was a hit, relaxing in the garden or playing cards around the table was an added bonus. The cottage had everything we needed. Plenty of parking either on the drive or outside on the quiet road . There are plenty of places to visit by car and the pub is a 40 minutes walk. Our host John lives on site too and was happy to help and give advice re the pizza oven. His dog Jasper likes to make friends with everyone and wanders around. All in all we had a fantastic week at Forge Cottage and if possible would gladly return.

We stayed at Forge cottage for a long weekend break with family.

We were after a nice quite retreat where we could all relax, go on walks with the dog and just simply chill. Both the cottage and the garden are just perfectly set up for this! The cottage is spacious and packed with all the essentials you'll need for your stay and more! The garden is stunningly maintained and the private outdoor area, equipped with pizza oven and BBQ, are perfect to relax in the evening. John is so kind and friendly, and more than happy to take the time to ensure you have a brilliant stay - talking us through exactly how to use the pizza oven. We all couldn't recommend this place enough and i'm sure we will be back soon! Thanks John!

We had a short break in Forge Cottage in November and found it extremely warm, comfortable and full of character.

The kitchen had a great supply of utensils and the outdoor eating area with pizza oven looked lovely for use in the summertime. John, our host was very friendly and was on hand if we needed anything. Welcome pack was much appreciated, thank you. The gardens were delightful and secure for our dogs. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and our visits to the surrounding areas. Would definitely recommend. Lovely clean, warm property with everything you could need.

Good WiFi, comfortable bed. Pretty garden which our dogs loved and great outdoor dining and barbecue area. The log burner was great with plenty of fuel. Being November we made good use of it.

Fabulous cottage home from home

Wonderful cottage in a quiet location.

The cottage has character and is perfectly comfortable with modern amenities. The hospitality we received from the owners was excellent. We used the cottage as a base for exploring north and central Lincolnshire and the location was perfect for us. We would love to return.

A wonderful cottage full of charm and history, nestled in a lovely, tranquil village with walks from the doorstep or just a short drive away.

Our hosts John, Sue (and Jasper the very friendly black labrador) were brilliant hosts and made us feel very welcome. The cottage is extremely comfortable, with a well equipt kitchen, plenty of fridge and freezer space and extremely comfy beds for a peaceful night's sleep. The outdoor space is wonderful to sit out and watch the red kites circle and enjoy some sunshine by day and at night, watch the sunset whilst enjoying a beer and glass of wine before your evening BBQ or homemade pizza. We had a fabulous week and would highly recommend.

A great property set in a calm and welcoming, beautifully kept garden.

My 80yr old Dad did not want to come home. The cottage has everything you need for a comfortable stay. John, the host, was wonderful. We will definitely be back!

Everything we needed was provided and the cottage is comfortable and clean. We all really enjoyed cooking with the pizza oven and the sitting out area was a real bonus. We would love to go again and would recommend to anybody.

An absolute hidden gem; spacious, very well equipped and John was so helpful and friendly it made our little mini break a delight.

The outdoor area and the addition of Jasper the friendly Labrador made this a particularly great stay. The property was spotless on arrival and well stocked, including a little welcome gift which was a lovely touch. Thank you John and Jasper for giving us a great base camp as we explored the wider area.

Our recent visit to Forge cottage was absolutely lovely.

Everything in the cottage was as defined in the listing. It was clean with everything provided, we had lots of kitchen utensils (not just the basics). The weather was amazing so we made use of the beautiful garden for outdoor sitting and eating. The owner who lived next door with his dog Jasper was very friendly, welcoming and helpful. I would definitely recommend.

The old forge was a great place to stay I can't recommend it enough , it had everything you would need , very clean & tidy .

Beautiful property in the charming Lincolnshire country side with many local wildlife reserves.

Very welcoming hosts in John and Sue. Ideally placed for Gainsborough. My wife commented that it was the best cottage we had stayed in. I noticed it was the best provisioned holiday let I have stayed in. There was even packaged toothbrushes in case you had forgotten your own. Fantastic stay.

The house was home from home warm and comfortable. We loved the log burner! John was kind and knowledgable, Jasper the dog was very friendly! The village was gorgeous and the villagers really friendly. Josh loved his village walk and very day! We will be back!

Our family group of five felt right at home in this lovely restored/modernized accommodation.

Any question/request was promptly fulfilled. One felt immediately included in the community with the owner and his friendly dog so close by. The landscaping/garden is outstanding. One truly feels "at home" there.

We loved our stay at this beautiful cottage.

The kitchen and outdoor facilities were great. Using the wood fired pizza oven was a highlight for us all. We are a large family and although not ideal we made the bedroom layout work for us. The cottage is well equipped and well maintained and the owner, John, is very helpful and lives just across from the property. Jasper , the lovely Labrador, was also very neighbourly and played in the garden with the children and visited us on occasion. We did a fair bit of driving to visit places during our stay and enjoyed them all; Whisby Reserve, The Wolds, Belton Estate, Lincoln Castle, Clumber Park and Willingham Woods.

Forge Cottage in Hemswell village is a very pretty cottage.

The gardens are gorgeous and are even lovely in the rain. The host John gave us a warm welcome as did Jasper the dog. Definitely five stars.

Lovely stay.

Cottage is in a good position. Safe village with walks on the doorstep for my dog. John the owner is very accommodating nothing was too much trouble. Sue was also very helpful. If you want a peaceful break, but not too far from bigger towns if you want a bit more life/activities, it's a good choice.

The property is lovely, clean, has everything you need, we all had comfy beds and pillows which is nice as we usually struggle with this when we hire cottages. We were fortunate to have nice weather, so we took full advantage of the outdoor area. The garden is fully secure, our two dogs loved it, they also liked Jasper the lab. Would love to go back and would recommend this cottage to stay in.

Great location in the quiet village of Hemswell, well positioned for enjoying the countryside of North Lincolnshire, the Wolds and The Viking Way national trail.

Forge cottage is spacious, comfortable and well equipped, set in a beautiful garden with a covered outdoor area outside the back door. We very much enjoyed our week and would highly recommend it for anyone looking for peace and quiet in a fog friendly location.

We had a brilliant stay at Forge Cottage to celebrate Christmas and New Year with family and two dogs.

I have used Sykes for a few years now and always look for dog friendly !

This is by far the best dog friendly property I have been to to date ! They let you have complete run and it’s a shared garden so I was a bit apprehensive as I have a rescue who can be very scared in new situations ,the understanding of the owner to her barking at his dog made me feel at ease. Lovely place to stay very much home from home , well I would say you get more than at home as I don’t have an outdoor pizza oven and bbq . Highly recommend.

We had a wonderful time at Forge Cottage which is charming, well appointed and spotless.

From the warm welcome on arrival to saying goodbye it was great. The “Sitoutery” was especially enjoyed as it allowed us to spend time in the peace of the lovely garden despite the weather. In general a great position, lots to do locally and very comfortable. Very accessible for mum (86). Just what the Dr ordered.

We enjoyed our first stay at Forge Cottage so much that we returned for a second stay in 3 months!

The cottage is cosy, extremely well equipped and one of the most child friendly I have ever seen. The friendly and accommodating host live on site which is great. Highly recommended.

Fantastic property, John (the owner) was on site during our stay and was very helpful.

Jasper the black lab made friends with myself and wife and also got on very well with Lucy our black lab. The gardens are immaculate and very well tended. We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Forge cottage and hopefully we will book another break there soon. An ideal base to explore Lincolnshire.

Had a family gathering there and had great fun using the pizza oven and the bug zapper kept us free from pesky mossies, One small point, would be nice to have a dishwasher for when there is a lot of you.

This is a fabulous place to stay.

It is an attractive building in a lovely village setting. The beds and furniture are very comfy and there is a modern, well-provisioned kitchen with dining table and breakfast table. The bathroom is a good size and the over-bath shower worked very well. Forge Cottage is a credit to the property owner.

Loved the outdoor seating and the wood-fired pizza oven - we made some great pizzas.

John's garden was beautiful, and he very kindly said we could pick herbs and fresh vegetables, and was generally delightful and very welcoming. The village is very quiet and peaceful - no traffic noise. We soon learnt to avoid the squeekiest floorboards outside the bathroom in the middle of the night, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay - thank you!

John, Sue and Jasper very welcoming. We had a great holiday here its a great location to explore Lincolnshire which we did finding some great places to eat and beaches for the children. Highly recommend this property!

This is a spacious and well equipped cottage in a beautiful, perhaps overlooked, part of the country. John is a very generous and hospitable host. The pizza oven was a highlight, a large amount of wood was provided free of charge to bring the oven up to temperature; delicious pizza cooked in no time. Jasper, the black Labrador, is a very friendly dog, who made frequent visits for a pat. This area of Lincolnshire is gently undulating with lots of public footpaths through beautiful countryside. The roads are quiet so exploring further afield by car is enjoyable.

We had a really good time at Forge Cottage.

My Mom has limited mobility, so the downstairs bedroom was ideal for her. The beautiful garden was perfect for the dogs and enjoyed by all of us. Jasper the resident dog gave us a great welcome and was immediately happy to join our pack - we wanted to take him home with us and I think my dog missed him once we got home! We didn’t go out and about much, as we enjoyed relaxing at the cottage and using the wood fired pizza oven - I need one! John, the owner, is a fabulous chap - really friendly, easy going and interesting to chat with. He didn’t turn a hair when my car wouldn’t start as we came to leave, happily gave me a jump start and waved us off. Lovely time had, lovely place, lovey bloke with a lovely dog!

The cottage is lovely.

John was very helpful, generous with his time and friendly and Jasper was adorable (watch out for your shoes). We had a lovely week exploring Lincolnshire and relaxing in the cottage. A few niggles stops it from being top marks. The main issue for us was that the mezzanine bedroom is basically a landing with a bed. This wasn't really suitable for my 15 year old, next to 18 year olds in the adjoining room as they had to walk through to go down to the toilet, a privacy screen might be an idea. The extension lead wasn't working meaning she had no electricity to charge phone, use hairdryer or put a fan on due to heatwave. This isnt really clear in the description and photos. We were excited by the beautiful outdoor area but due to the design of the glass roof it traps flies and wasps meaning you have dead ones falling in your food. This stopped us using the area. John is aware and apologised as said he's going to try to resolve in future. If it was marks for being a lovely person and being friendly it would be top marks. There wasn't a baking tray so we bought one and left it behind. Other than these niggles it was quiet, tranquil and beautiful. Thank you to John for your generosity in letting us use the garden, loungers etc.

The accommodation is perfect, comfortable and the minute you walk through the door you relax. The garden is beautiful and adds to the sense of relaxation. The standard of the accommodation, attention to detail and location within the village was perfect. John is very friendly and is on hand for any queries or just a chat. Their lovely dog Jasper is a welcome addition.

The host was second to none nothing was too much trouble particularly with the clay pizza oven. Jasper the black Labrador was an added bonus as he got on great with our Jack Russell. Do not be put off by the shared garden. We all had a wonderful time and everyone we meet was super friendly. We will definitely be returning.

Considering our holiday was very last minute due to a previous booking being cancelled last minute, everything at this cottage was perfect.

Wonderful accommodation with a host to match.

Was a home from home experience with everything needed to support our stay. John was on hand to give recommendations in the area and all round great guy. Our dogs also had a great time exploring the fabulous garden and grounds. We will certainly be revisiting and couldn’t recommend this place enough.

Brilliant place to unwind and de stress.

A well appointed cottage within the heart of Lincolnshire...The facilities that the cottage allows a home from home instantly..... Thank you for looking after this gem..... The spacious cottage easily sleeps upto 5.. The large and well equipped kitchen allows you to cook the whole range of dishes to feed upto 5.... The lounge... Brilliant log burner...... Bathroom a great size bath and shower..... Plenty of local walks, pubs and restaurants, historic places of interest.... What's not to like. We're really glad we booked it...

Forge Cottage is a beautiful renovated property the gardens are in immaculate condition and perfect for a chilled afternoon in the sun.

John, Sue and Jasper (labrador) are always on hand to help, with great locL advice to how to use the Pizzza oven, the village of Hemswell is very quite with a lovely 5k circular walk to "The Stirrup Inn" (recommended) for refreshments. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and a great base to explore Lincolnshire Wolds and coast line.

We had an extended stay at the Forge due to house sale.

Everything was perfect for us and our two big dogs. The cottage was lovely, very clean and comfortable and the garden was beautiful and fully enclosed. John, the owner, was great and went out of his way to make our stay a good one. Our dogs integrated well with the owners dog, Jasper, and they all became the best of friends. The village is a lovely spot and all the villagers we met made us and our dogs very welcome. We highly recommend this cottage and looking forward to coming back.

On arrival, the owner John was extremely friendly, and said just to let him know if we required any assistance or local information.

The property and fully enclosed garden is exceptional and the cottage had been cleaned to a very high standard. John's dog Jasper is also very friendly, and obedient. Unfortunately one of my dogs was trying to be dominant, so I had to supervise him when the two dogs met. For information, there is no mobile phone 'Virgin' signal in the village. Positive feedback - Perhaps a dishwasher could be added, mattresses could be upgraded to memory foam, as currently mattresses very soft and springy which is no good for a back sufferer like me, or similarly others, and the 3 piece suite is tired and one armchair in particular has a sunken seat. I certainly recommend this cottage and the superb dog friendly enclosed garden.

Such a lovely cottage, fabulous gardens and fully equipped with everything you could need.

Just loved sitting outside whatever the weather and enjoying the peace and quiet. We had a couple of visits from Jasper the black lab who belonged to John the owner of the cottage, he’d have a treat and then be on his way! The cottage is brilliant for anyone with a dog, totally secure, our dog just wondered around the garden and found a nice place to sit in the sun. As for the cottage it’s self it has everything! We used the downstairs bedroom and the bed was so comfy. Fully equipped kitchen, everything was spotless and very well organised. A very spacious cottage which could definitely accommodate a family of 4 or 5 and still not be under each other’s feet especially with the outdoor seating area! We just loved it, there was even a pizza oven & BBQ but we didn’t use them. We had such a great time and didn’t want to leave on Friday morning but Sue arrived at 10am to get the cottage ready for the next lucky people to come and stay! Thanks John, Sue and Jasper for our lovely holiday and hope to be back soon!

Great cottage in a quiet village setting.

The picture are exactly how you find the cottage, beautifully clean and a home from home feel. Enjoy making your own pizza and BBQ under cover in the beautiful garden setting where your dog is free to wonder making the most of everyday. There is a small play park just around the corner giving younger members of your party space too. Would definitely reccomemd this cottage as a base for exploring the local area.

A beautiful cottage, a real home from home in a wonderful location for us to visit family (and Hemswell Antique Centre and Lincoln

What a well presented and maintained cottage!

We booked this cottage for a week to get away from it all and relax together with the dog. The cottage its self is well prepared, the kitchen has all the essentials. So we never found ourselves searching for something when cooking during our stay. The BBQ outside has it's own tools and was supplied with coals. The bedrooms were all exceptionally clean and comfortable. The owner advises that dogs don't go onto the furniture or beds without a throw over them first. (Which I understand completely.) At night we left our dog in the kitchen and corridor, closing the doors to the living room and bedrooms. We got out on several walks around the local countryside and enjoyed coming back to the cottage afterward every time. With the guest book is a photo album showing the renovation work undertaken by the owner which is great to see the transformation. Overall would highly recommend we will certainly look to come back here again another time.

A lovely weeks break - beautiful English country garden with lots of quiet and peace and amazing fish pond, the BBQ and Pizza oven were good fun.

The cottage is friendly, comfortable with some qwerky features - as we expected for a converted building - real fire for a cozy evening. Great toys for the toddler and zoomy space for our dogs. Some reduced equipment due to covid - but easily managed everything we wanted. Owner was away but Sue was very helpful and quick to help. Very handy for Lincoln, small farm and zoo/rescue centre (1/2 days visits) - you do have to drive to the pub as the roads between hamlets were not pushchair friendly.

Fantastic place to stay.

Everything you could ever wish for home from home. First time we had taken our two jack russles on holiday, they loved it. Great location 10 minute drive from our son and family, grandchildren loved coming over to visit for tea. There is a terrace and outdoor dining area with a BBQ and a wood fired oven (with a generous supply of fuel) and access to the relaxing garden, which is beautifully presented. Nothing disturbed the tranquility. The host lives in an adjacent cottage and he was very helpful and friendly. At the end of our stay we left with a heavy heart and the feeling that we'd certainly pay a return visit.

Large property and comfy beds.

Excellent location with modern kitchen and well equipped. Especially liked the hot water. Situated in a pleasant garden area.
