The owners have really put some thought into the dog friendly element with furniture covers and doggie towels provided and the fenced/gated areas are fantastic for furry friends to be safe and secure. Parking is easy and convenient. Even though the location is close to the road we hardly noticed any traffic noise. All in all, a great place to stay for a peaceful week in the countryside.

  • "The cottage itself was probably the most comfortable we've stayed in and the owners' attention to detail and the touches to help dog owners were brilliant."

The bathroom off the lounge needs a bit of a touch up and the showers weren't very powerful but those were the only quibbles we had with the cottage. The paddock is a great place for dogs on a long lead but it's not fully enclosed so dogs would be able to bolt into the fields or road around the cottage. It does make for an excellent spot for using telescopes and I managed some great photos of some nebulae. Walking through the village is a bit weird, take a torch if you'll be out in the dark as the street lighting is bizarrely spaced out. There is a poo bin about 5 minutes away from the cottage if you need to deposit something whilst walking. Mablethorpe beach is really nice, there's a big car park with a nice little cafe and the beach itself is wide, long and flat. If you go out of school holidays, it's really quiet and you will have plenty of room. The only downside, one which nearly had us leaving after two days due to a panicking dog, is the surrounding farmers using very loud bird scarers from 6am til 10pm.A couple of locals I spoke to whilst waiting for the fish & chip van (Tuesdays 17:30-17:50 at the football club) said the scarers aren't meant to be used during unsocialable hours but the farmers ignore that. If you have dogs or someone who's scared by frequent, recurring loud bangs this may not be the place for you.

Really quiet in a rural location. Only a thought, perhaps a sign or better instructions where to collect key from. There is a co-op shop in Manby by the traffic lights.

  • "Lovely little cottage in a great location."

We always take our dogs on holiday and this was a perfect place. It has an enclosed courtyard, which was great for the dogs. There’s a little lane down the side for walkies time. The cottage has a great layout. Ideal for my dad who isn’t so good at getting around. It had pretty much everything we needed. Loved the covers for the sofas so the dogs could go on them❣️ We did find the beds a little uncomfortable. The mattresses were a little hard. But, sheets and towels were provided, which is great when you already have a packed car. Mablethorpe has a dog friendly beach that’s worth visiting. Also, you must take the time to go to Anderby Creek. There’s a great cafe and, again, a wonderful dog friendly beach. All in all, The Old Sweet Shop is in a perfect location, has everything you need and is a perfect dog friendly retreat.

Cosy, warm and very comfortable. Very well equipped. The courtyard is very secure and I had not worries about my three Springers. Good walks at the back of the farm and a twenty minute drive to wonderful, deserted beaches. This was our second stay having stayed in Peardrop Cottage in January. It was the perfect place to chill just before Christmas. Highly recommended.

  • "Overall, very comfortable, particularly the beds and pillows."

Owners very accommodating and helpful. However, this was our first experience of a combi boiler, which needed repairing through our stay, we could cope with that, but we now understand that power showers are not compatible with combi boilers. The shower pressure was awful. My husband cannot get in and out of a bath, so needs a good power shower. In the future, we will not be staying at a property that has a combi boiler. There is also a lot of water wastage waiting for hot water to cone through.

We took two people in their mid eighties and the property suited them very well except they couldn’t open the front door very easily from the inside as there’s no door handle just the Yale lock and it stuck a bit, probably due to the damp. Also just to make you aware the shop is no longer open in the village although there is a co-op in the other direction but you’d need to drive to it and the nearest pub is also closed. If you don’t mind a short drive The Prussian Queen in Saltfleetby or The Queens Head in Legbourne both did lovely meals.

The kitchen was well stocked so meant that you didn't have to use the dishwasher too often because you had run out of clean dishes. The washing machine was quick and efficient with a drier available to use. The cottage on arrival was clean and tidy with all of the bed made up with lots of towels for everyone. The owners were friendly and and had kindly provided milk and biscuits along with tea and coffee which we gratefully used after our long journey. Only one thing which could have improved it was a little thicker curtains or lined curtains as it was quite an early wake up call in the morning due to light curtains (and I'm being picky here). Thank you for a wonderful holiday cottage, we will be recommending to others.
