• "Would not recommend staying here."

  The owner is clearly having difficulties and is not overseeing the cleaning or maintenance of the property. It was absolutely filthy on arrival and needs a deep clean. All of the surfaces were greasy and unusable, the kitchen tap was broken as was the kitchen bin and the bottom underneath the bin liner was full of moulding food. The floor throughout was filthy leaving our socks black and the underneath of the sofa cushions were full of dog hairs, cigarette filters, and moulding food and crumbs which must have accumulated over months. As other reviews state, this property is not currently fit to stay in. On top of the filthy state of the property, there was an issue with the gas boiler not working and what’s worse no running water throughout the entire property. Whilst the owner apologised, the house was not liveable and we could not stay there. While I understand that things happen in life and the owner is clearly in ill health, he should not be advertising properties for customers to stay in when they are not fit for guests. What has been most upsetting is that instead of providing me with a refund, he has taken my money and ignored my contact leaving me no option but to pursue complaint through Sykes to try to reclaim my money so that I can take my children on a memorable holiday to make up for the upset caused by this situation. We will not stay in any properties belonging to this owner again due to his poor handling of the situation which he could have resolved with a genuine apology and refund.

We take cleanliness, maintenance, and guest comfort extremely seriously, and we were naturally concerned to receive the issues you raised. Following your complaint, the property was independently inspected by a property consultant, who found the cottage to be in an acceptable condition and suitable for occupation. While this assessment did not support the extent of the concerns described, we appreciate that guests can have differing expectations and experiences. We also understand that the issue with the boiler and water supply caused significant disruption to your stay. Unfortunately, unexpected maintenance issues can occasionally arise despite regular checks, and we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this caused. We did our best to address the situation once it was brought to our attention. Regarding your comments about communication and a refund, this matter had been referred to and was handled through Sykes Cottages' formal complaints process, where all correspondence and available evidence was reviewed fairly and independently. We regret that your experience did not meet your expectations and are sorry that your family holiday was affected. • "We booked Dormy cottage for my birthday and granted it was quirky as advertised but that's where it stops the description was totally inaccurate we booked it because it said it had a garden lies it had no garden but did have about 30 bags of garden waste on the drive near the house it said free WiFi I put the code in and it said it wasn't a secure site The television was a smart TV with a fire stick when we eventually managed to get the TV to work it kept buffering and turning itself off because it said the internet wasn't strong enough to sustain streaming."

  It said it had a dartboard and pool table more lies it had neither It said it had an electric hob and oven more lies it was an old gas oven the carpet in the living room was badly stained and had several holes in it there was no main light in the living room I phoned the owner about how to get into the garden and he said it didn't have a garden even though a garden and patio was in the description I am going to write a formal complaint and get in touch with trading standards because the property U advertised bore no resemblance to the one we paid good money for instead of staying for a week we went home after a couple of days I am expecting a full refund for misrepresentation of the property if anybody is thinking of booking it I would advise them to save their money Disappointed doesn't even begin to say how we feel
