Description

The Cottage on the Green is a traditional Grade 2 dwelling tucked away, but still in the heart of Beddgelert, within the Eryri National Park, also known as Snowdonia.

Beddgelert itself is a charming village. Its stone buildings nestled in the surrounding mountains with two rivers converging make it one of the most picturesque villages in North Wales.

Boasting stunning views of Moel Hebog, Beddgelert’s own mountain, the Snowdon horseshoe, and the rivers’ confluence, this delightful home is perfect for couples or families, with a well-stocked shop and village pubs nearby.

Inside you’ll be welcomed by the warmth of the toasty woodburning stove, creating the perfect backdrop for a quiet night in.

Moving through the property you will discover a well-equipped kitchen/diner, ideal for preparing home-cooked meals to be enjoyed at the dining table with the family, overlooking the pretty garden.

After a day exploring the beautiful National Park retreat to the sitting room for a movie night on the TV before heading to bed. Upstairs a double and twin rooms await you.

The first-floor shower room has a roomy walk-in shower while the downstairs bathroom offers the chance to soak in a hot bath after a day’s hike. There is a second shower over the bath for added convenience.

Outside, the pretty rear garden features a slate patio providing a sunny spot to enjoy a morning coffee, while taking in views of the surrounding hills. The higher patio area with table and chairs is the place to enjoy an evening drink or dinner al fresco catching the last rays of sun before it sets behind the mountains to the west.

You only have to walk a few steps from the Cottage to immerse yourself in the rich history and local lore with a visit to Gelert’s grave, from which the village is named, to learn the legend of Prince Llewellyn and his dog. Walk along the River Colwyn, the second of Beddgelert’s rivers, to the Sygun Copper Mine and explore Eryri’s flora and fauna at the National Trust Craflwyn Nature Reserve. Beddgelert’s own forest offers both vigorous and gentle walks and bike rides along its beautiful and varied trails. Hire a bike for added fun.

Adventurous souls can walk from the Cottage further along the River Glaslyn, with its occasional rock grab handles, into the Aberglaslyn Pass with its breathtaking vistas.

Wales is famous for its steam railways. The Welsh Highland Railway stops at Beddgelert station on its way from Caernarfon to Porthmadog. Travel in leisurely style through the magnificent scenery to explore the charming town of Porthmadog or Caernarfon with its fine castle.

A short drive will take you to many magnificent beaches. Drive on to the extensive sands at Black Rock near Porthmadog, or take a bracing walk along the promenade at Criccieth. Dine at some of the excellent eateries there. Explore further along the Lleyn Peninsular with its range of spectacular beaches from Llanbedrog with its jolly beach huts to the wild and wonderful Hell’s Mouth or Porth Neigel in Welsh.

Explore the stunning Eryri National Park where you can hike up and conquer the summit of Yr Wyddfa also known as Snowdon with its spectacular views. Experienced walkers may enjoy the

exhilarating Crib Goch ridge walk. Alternatively, there are equally spectacular, but quieter peaks such as Cnicht or Beddgelert’s own Moel Hebog.

For those seeking an adrenaline rush, the Llechwed slate caverns offer thrilling zip-line experiences. Velocity Zip World at Bethesda is the longest and fastest in the world. The adventures of Bounce Below and Crazy Golf in the Llechwed Caverns and the high ropes and gentler zip-lines near Betws y Coed offer adventures suitable for families.

After a day of exploration, you can wander over from the Cottage to treat yourself to an artisan coffee or ice cream in the village or eat at one of the hostelries. A friendly welcome and varied offerings - pizza, traditional pub food or finer dining – are just a short stroll away.

We absolutely loved this property.

It was comfortable and in a great location. We have stayed in Beddgelert many times before, but thought this was the best place. We would definitely stay there again. Thank you so much.

We were disappointed with our recent stay, especially as the cottage has mainly 5 star reviews, but our experience was very different.

On arrival the cottage had not been cleaned to an acceptable standard. There were cobwebs across some of the windows, dusty floors with grubby corners ( especially the bathroom), half eaten food left in the freezer and an unpleasant smell coming from the oven. The front of the cooker was also dirty, with dust and cobwebs around the bottom of it. We also found the previous guests rubbish had been left in containers outside,(which were completely full), for us to deal with, but we did not put it out. We don't feel it is the guest's responsibility. There should be a caretaker or housekeeper to manage this , especially when guest's are paying for a holiday. There were also maintenance issues, the back gate was broken, which made the outside area less secure. There was no signal so messaged Sykes a few times and received only an automatic acknowledgement with a case number, no explanation, update or apology. This took up several days of what was meant to be a relaxing break, and we ended up having to clean parts of the cottage ourselves. We booked through Sykes and expected issues to be handled by them. Unfortunately this wasn't the case and it did effect the enjoyment of our holiday.
