Unfortunately, this wasn’t the peaceful, relaxing holiday we had planned.

Approaching the flat, it didn’t feel very welcoming at all. There were lots of leaves around the entrance, which made it look very unkempt, and some of the windows were filthy on the outside. Inside, the flat smelled damp and musty, including included the furniture in the main bedroom, which we couldn’t use because of the smell. The hot water in the ensuite wasn’t working but this was repaired after I phoned to report it. There was also only a bath in the ensuite rather than a shower, which meant six of us had to queue to use the one shower. For a property sleeping this many people, another shower would make a big difference. The noise from the flat above was probably one of the biggest issues. We could hear everything, including arguments, ‘making up’, what sounded like a rowing machine, animals, and children running around. It really affected how relaxing the stay was. We also felt that a washing machine and somewhere to dry clothes would have been much more useful than having a full-size freezer. We’ve had many lovely holidays with Sykes Cottages over the years, but unfortunately this particular property didn’t live up to what we were hoping for and we definitely wouldn’t stay there again.

As others have mentioned, this apartment is fairly basic but was clean and had everything we needed as a base for a week at the beach.

Excellent value for the location and four bedrooms. We would recommend the pub up the road, the Ship Inn, for food, although you cannot just walk in. There were seven of us, so the living area was a little tight when we were all trying to sit on comfortable seats to watch TV. You do hear quite a bit of noise from upstairs and next door, but for us it was not late at night or especially early in the morning. The shower was good, and there was plenty of hot water. We were able to park our two cars without issue, but on the last day a resident told us we were parked in their space. If there were allocated spaces, it was not obvious which ones were for us.
