Carreg Winllan is a little piece of heaven.

Of all the places we have stayed with Sykes (there are many) this is the gold cup winner for us. It is a beautiful welsh coastal cottage, with lots of original features and cosy, homely feel to the place. It is private, and has an enchanting enclosed garden with a firepit for gathering and eating smores whilst getting divebombed by tiny bats before listening to the owls chatting! Wake up and sit out on the patio with your coffee and the amazing red squirrel Mr Nutkins will greet you in the tree and pose for your photo. There were also baby nutkins, what an absolute delight. Also I counted 42 different types of bird in or around the garden in the week we stayed. The garden is full of deciduous and native plants and the wildlife (and me) approve. The cottage is set in a beautiful rural village which is really accessible for the island, and really near to Amwlch and Benllech for shops and eating. Lots of lovely walks and take your pick of beaches it's near so many and Parys mountain is a sight to behold on a sunny day. This place offers absolute relaxation, comfort and a home from home. As 3 adults, we had a comfy room each and no arguments over the shower as there are two and a bath. There is room for a space each and together and a cosy snug and dormer bedroom for guests! The kitchen is fab and cooker is very efficient. Our only gripe was the damp which caused some mould on the walls in the middle bedroom, which we cleaned off when we arrived. My observation is that the place would really benefit from log burner fires to dry the place out, but the owners have chosen electric heating to reduce carbon footprint which is admirable indeed and this works well as a background heat. There is two electric fan heater fires one in the kitchen which is broken, the other in the lounge offering some immediate heat but room is cold once it's off. I understand the heating decision, but think the cottage was built to have proper fires that would dry it out and keep it warm in the very brutal wet and cold autumn and winters on the island. This is literally the only thing we would change about this amazing home and we will definitely be booking again to come in the warmer months of summer. The owner Jo is very responsive and was very helpful with local recommendations and advice, great communication and a pleasure to converse with. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home and we look forward to next time!

While the cottage has charm, the experience did fall below our expectations for a number of reasons.

It was unpleasant to arrive to completely full and overflowing external bins/recycling. There was a smell of damp throughout the property, not helped by the fact the extractor fan in the bathroom was broken and the window was locked shut due to a snapped key in the lock. The whole property needs a deep clean and the bedding in one bedroom had not been dried properly. Disappointing.

Myself and 5 friends stayed here for 5 nights.

The house was clean and spacious, the garden was lovely and watching the bats in the sky at nightfall was beautiful. The house is a short walk to the local shops and a short drive to the local towns and villages. We have all.said that we would stay there again
