We had a lovely stay in this clean and comfortable house with everything provided and more .

Lovely garden which we enjoyed chilling in after busy days out and about and the lovely weather was a bonus . It’s in an ideal location for visiting the surrounding areas and it’s on a bus route to York Selby and Desgner Outlet if a car free day is needed . We will definitely return .

Lovely place, comfortable, very clean and had all we needed to make our stay a good one.

Nice enclosed garden with a good high fence to give good security for your dog. The kitchen was well equipped if you choose to cook, or the New Inn is just a10 minute walk away for good home cooked pub food. Their Sunday dinner is excellent and huge and they do takeaway if that suits you better. The house is on a bus route into Selby one way and York the other way and runs every 15 minutes. The owners live on site and are very helpful and friendly. We will be back!

This was our third stay at Rose Cottage, which as always was comfortable, clean and homely.

Spotlessly clean and comfortable cottage in a great location not far off Weymouth Harbour / old town.

Convenient for a local supermarket and very popular fish and chip shop. Great for people watching at the harbour such as those crabbing or just boats going by. Some great pubs / restaurants including a historic pub just at the bottom of the road from the house - one of the oldest in Weymouth!

As always, comfortable, clean and welcoming.

We've stayed here before and were so pleased with the facilities and cleanliness.

Rose Cottage is a comfortable size for two people and a dog. It's a great place to bring children too as there are plenty of activities, games and toys to play with. We'll continue to book here as it's so convenient for visiting York and the surrounding areas.

A beautiful, warm, well equipped cottage with a private enclosed garden and off road parking.

The owners live next door and are on hand to answer any queries you may have. Excellent location, quiet but easy commute to park and drive into York and the local town of Selby was a revelation, with a beautiful abbey, good shops, cafes and takeaways. 5 stars, highly recommended

Cottage was very clean and comfortable plenty of free parking spaces the bed was so large we had to use our mobiles to say goodnight to each other our dog chappy absolutely loved the large secure lawned garden we were in rose cottage overall it was very clean and comfortable we would highly recommend thank you so much .

We really enjoyed our relaxing week at Rose.

As a family with a dog, we always worry what the house will be like, however we needn't have worried. Our dog loved the fully enclosed and secure garden and it was refreshing that he was allowed upstairs when supervised. We did have a couple of small, unexpected issues, but we were very impressed with how quickly these were sorted. The house is ideally located, with very easy transport links to places in and around York. We would stay again and would definitely recommend the house to others, especially if you are looking for somewhere dog friendly.

Rose Cottage provided a delightful base for exploring North Yorkshire.

The garden was secure for Florentina the Samoyed, and there was excellent paths nearby for early morning walks along the River Ouse. Selby itself and the Abbey was walking distance, and the Abbey was also dog-friendly (Florentina even snoozed happily through a lunch-time organ recital!). Other abbeys and castles were within reach, including Fountains Abbey, Rievaulx Abbey, Helmsley Castle and Knaresborough Castle. The Cottage itself was beautifully clean and well maintained. The kitchen had everything necessary (even a sharp knife!) for proper self-catering, and the living space was a good size. There were only a couple of tiny niggles: my very tall son found the light in the kitchen too low for him to help with preparing dinner (!), and the shower was temperamental (it was difficult to find the sweet-spot where it would deliver water that was neither too hot nor too cold). Nevertheless, my son, Florentina and I had a wonderful and restorative fortnight in Rose Cottage, for which we were all very grateful.

Well equipped (& then some). Large secure garden for dog, who loved it. Covered "porch" much appreciated when raining.Very convenient for visiting Selby (Abbey well worth a visit), York (used Park & Ride at Designer Outlet). Also visited Eden Camp & Hornsea. A thoroughly enjoyable stay. Highly recommend this holiday let.

This is such an amazing place to say - they have literally thought of everything from Tupperware available and a pint of milk in the fridge on arrival so you can relax with a cuppa to a care box in the bedrooms with flannels, nail clippers and nail files - it’s a proper home from home!

It was wonderful to stay at Rose for our family holiday.

My In-Laws, husband and I had a ball exploring with our small dog, knowing we had such a wonderful, homely cottage to return to. The lovely owner was very accommodating and friendly. The building is steeped in history and the charm shines through. Thank you

Our stay was most enjoyable.

The only improvement I could make would be a larger fridge and a better peeler ( but we were there for Christmas week and had a lot of food (& peeling to do!

) The really regular bus service to York / Selby which stops just outside the property was brilliant. And the cottage was equipped with loads of little extras, which we really appreciated. Thankyou!

A lovely, spacious cottage, much bigger than we were expecting.

The garden was more than big enough for our dog, Pepper and safe and secure. Situated in an ideal location to visit surrounding areas and York.

Rose is a lovely and well equipped cottage.

Although we didn’t make much use of the garden, that was also well maintained and felt secure. For a two-bedroomed cottage it is spacious and we never felt like we were tripping over each other. We will definitely be considering these cottages (either Rose, or Thistle next door for the extra bedroom) if we return to the area. We really liked the cottage and it is in a great location for day trips.

We had a delightful stay at rose cottage.

It had everything you could think of for a comfortable stay. The large garden was great and our dog loved it. Location was also good with plenty of amenities close by. There are some great places to walk we particularly like barlow common as it was quiet. I would stay at Rose again. I highly recommend.

This is our 2nd time visiting Rose for my birthday.

The garden is amazing and our little dog loved playing football for hours in it. The bathroom is so big and the bath is so relaxing. Lots of places to visit and the New Inn around the corner do fabulous Sunday dinners. The inly criticism is an upgrade on the kitchen utensils, the kitchen knives need a good sharpen. But we will be back soon

Rose cottage is lovely having everything you need.

Ideal for our dog, handy for York and good local pub. If there was any complaint it is that perhaps the beds could be a bit more comfortable but really that's hardly worth a mention. I would definitely recommend Rose cottage to friends & family.

Not as quiet as we were hoping.

Road noise through the village and unfortunately the people in Thistle next door were quite noisy. Heating was uncontrollable and it was very hot which made it a bit uncomfortable. Couldn’t get the hob to work despite following the instructions. Great base for exploring York and Selby with the bus stop for both just outside the front door. Great enclosed garden for the dog which made it safe. Onsite parking which is also a bonus. Good WiFi if you need it. The furniture was comfortable and the kitchen equipped with everything you need. Great welcome pack as well. Just disappointing about the noise levels.

Perfect little house that is well situated to explore the surrounding areas.

House was clean and spacious and the owners are lovely people. The bus stop is right outside the house with buses into York and Selby every 15 minutes. There are lots of board games, toys and books inside the house and in the garden that are a nice added touch. The bathroom is huge and the kitchen is well equipped. Honestly we have absolutely no complaints about our stay, everything was perfect and it did our family the world of good. We will definitely return in the future. Thank you!

This place hit every mark and then some!

the stay was excellent and knowing that the person running them was a phone call or even a minute's walk away was amazing. no issues at all whilst there and a lovely cosy place to be

This is an ideal spot to explore York and the rest of Yorkshire.

There is a frequent bus service between Selby and York, so these places can be explored without the hassle of parking. There is a small supermarket and a good pub, both within walking distance. The accomadation was clean and had everything we needed. The enclosed garden was large enough for the dog to have a wander round.

A wonderful and relaxed stay.

Fantastic secure garden which our little dog loved. Some outstanding places to eat such as the New Inn just round the corner as well as Barlby Fisheries. Selby and York just on your doorstep. Thank you for mowing the garden mid stay so that our little dog could have fun on the grass. Only criticism is the temperamental shower but despite that will return again.

Rose Barlbyhouse.

The house was lovely and cosy.Nice and clean. .Lovely bathroom but, the shower was a nuisance. In the morning you might have lucky to be able to shower without gettig burnt. Early evening the water was red hot. Couldn't be reduced. Very anoying the bathroom heater you had to be careful not to get burnt. Nice place,not far from York.We had a great time. Hoping to be back soon.

The cottage is nicely located and well maintained.

The double bed could use a new mattress - within a couple of nights we were waking up with very sore/stiff backs. The main issue however is the temperature control in the shower. There is none! The water is either scalding hot or unbearably hot. It's honestly not usable, which leaves you with the bath (which doesn't have a shower head for hair washing etc.).

Clean and spacious.

The shower temperature was inconsistent - spurts of hot, then cold. You need to bring your own shower gel and bubble bath.

Rose in Barlby was a very comfortable and clean holiday home which had everything we could have wanted including instructions on how to work the various kitchen appliances.

While the shower was a bit temperamental, the bath was great for relaxing after a busy day of sightseeing. We also thought that having the house decorated for Easter was a really nice touch. Barlby itself is a small village but the shop, which is just 5 minutes walk away from the house is well stocked and Selby is only a few miles away and has lots of major supermarkets, restaurants and shops.

Another pleasant stay, we will be returning later in the year .

It was an extremely warm and cosy cottage!

It is an excelent base for visiting York and the surrounding area. The house was in very good condition and well equiped, including bowls and a rug for the dog! It was very quiet at night and having the enclosed garden was ideal. Good off-road parking.

Cottage is lovely, very clean and spacious (especially upstairs).

Nice sized & secure garden and even though it’s by a main road, the noise isn’t intrusive at all. A few minor points that could be improved. There were issues with the plumbing in the bathroom - the bath leaked through into the kitchen below & tripped all the lights. The shower was intermittent and sometimes had terrible pressure - other times it worked straightaway. It would be nice if the kitchen had some basic things left in it (oil, salt etc). However, overall a nice long weekend & I would stay here again.

Clean, private, spacious and well equipped.

Rose Cottage was very comfortable and cosy with the added bonus of a small garden which allowed our two young sons to run around in and out of the house.

It was a great base to visit local attractions from and with the convenience of a nearby shop, we didn't have to look far for supplies.

The property was a bit smaller than the pictures suggest and the sofa wasn’t particularly comfy hence the lower marks for comfort and accuracy.

That said we had a lovely stay, one slight issue with the radiator in the bathroom which the owner was quick to resolve. It was our first break with our rescue pup and she had everything she needed

Can't fault a thing, very lovelly I'm sure we'll be fine again.

The cottage has everything you could need, it was just what we needed whilst having flooring put down in our new home.

The only thing which we felt could be improved was the beds, the mattresses were not the most comfy and the beds were creaky. However the definition of a comfy bed will vary from person to person. Overall we felt it was very good value for money and suited our needs. The owner was extremely helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. We really appreciated the welcome pack of milk, tea and biscuits after a hard day of moving house. Thank you :)

Accommodation very clean and comfortable, modern interior.

Well equipped kitchen. Warm property and plenty of hot water. Good communication with owner. Ideal location to visit York, the North York Moors and coast about an hour away and Hull. Quiet location with local evening walks, a well stocked local shop with extended opening hours and a nice family friendly pub.

Really enjoyed staying at the cottage.

It was ideally located, not being too far from the things we had planned to do and not too far to travel to. My dogs loved the garden it was great we all enjoyed it.

Garden is well maintained. Close to bus stops for York. Highly recommended and a very enjoyable holiday. Will definitely be returning.

The owner did her utmost to remedy the recurrent plumbing problem in her otherwise lovely and well-maintained cottage and make our stay as comfortable as she could.

Sykes, however, were very difficult to contact. When I did contact them I was told that all their other properties were “full to capacity” which actually wasn’t true. I am not happy that despite being advised that the problem had recurred, Sykes failed to respond to my message (quoting the case ref.), instead sending me a customer satisfaction survey and some patronising blurb about how to leave the property! No doubt they regarded the issue as no longer important since we’d made it through the week!

Host was very friendly. Highly recommend for a stay near York.
