Guisborough itself is a great location, so many shops and bars. The Priory is interesting and Guisborough forest is amazing, best bacon sandwich in years! The pub opposite is noisy, you definitely need to consider this if you’re a light sleeper, we may have been unlucky because the weather was fantastic when we stayed and that probably contributed to people being out late.

How was in an ideal location with plenty to do on your doorstep from a park to walk the fog to pubs, cafes, shops and historical places. Messaged the owners to pass info on and they were very friendly and responded quickly. People have left reviews about parking being an issue however with the permit we were able to park outside the house on a daily basis without an issue. It may be diffrent during summer months but wasn't an issue during our stay. Would highly recommend a stay here and would book again. Thank you for a lovely holiday. Leanne Ricky and Freya (the dog)

I would definitely stay here again. Everything was local that was needed. Christmas decorations were lovely. Couldn’t fault it. If I had to have a negative it would be no lock on bathroom door. But that’s it. Loved the place. We have stayed at cottages for around 5 years through Sykes and this is the best so far.

Only a couple of complaints, initially the location, very urban, noisy pub opposite (my fault for not prechecking the location better) The other was only winter grade duvets provided, definitely not suitable in the current extremely hot nights, 100% needs summer duvets.

  • "114 Westgate is a fantastic property the photos on Sykes really don’t do it justice."

It is really tastefully decorated , furnished and equipped to a very high standard. Modern but also in keeping with the age of the cottage. The bathroom is brilliant and so relaxing loved the lighting around the bath. The shower was also excellent. The icing on the cake with this property was the hot tub . It was absolutely fantastic to relax in after an afternoon out walking with the dog. The whole back yard was really well thought out with benches artificial grass and colour changing lighting . Although NOT mentioned in Sykes description a parking permit is provided by the owner, it is on the sideboard in the dining room. This made parking easy most evenings we were able to park right outside. Guisborough itself is a lovely town with really friendly people. It has everything you could possibly need, Aldi,Lidl, Sainsburys , M&S and independent shops, pubs including Wetherspoons, restaurants, multiple takeaways all within easy walking distance from the cottage. We particularly liked Shurovi Indian takeaway / restaurant. Danny the owner is a really nice genuine chap and he will go all out to make your holiday at Westgate enjoyable and one to remember. I can’t recommend this cottage enough and will definitely be returning. Thank you Danny for a wonderful stay.

For example ,dark carpets and easy to mop kitchen floor. The outdoor space having astro turf leading to the hot tub is practical and easy to maintain. Having heavy curtains as well as blinds in the double bedroom made it dark to sleep well. The bed was comfortable. Further to various comments in the guest feedback book at the accommodation, the twin room blinds did not make the room dark to sleep. Therefore having dark curtains as an extra layer would be beneficial. It was useful having instructions for the TV which had been suggested by previous guests and actioned by the owners. We found the facilities to be relaxing with everything we needed supplied as listed.

Lovely and clean nice sized rooms . Very well equipped everything looked new. Hot tub great space well thought out. Nice places to walk in the area town was nice lovely shops and eating places and pubs to drink. The only negative we had which was not the property or its fault parking is restricted. We parked when we arrived in the next street Cleveland Street less than five minutes . My husband found the permit in the property went to move the car and caught a resident pulling our wipers clean off which was not what we expected with such a nice area. Having said that it's no ref on the property and we would book again.

It was 'vibrant', next to the takeaway and opposite the pub, but still not too noisy. Being in town meant it was handy for shopping and eating out. The cottage was very well equipped - we loved the hot tub which was quite private - and the owners were helpful when contacted. You can't park right outside the house without a resident's permit but you can park very near - across the road, round the corner or just a little way down the street. The owners provide a helpful guide. We would certainly consider booking again.

About the location

Saltburn-by-the-Sea 6 miles; Staithes 13 miles; Whitby 21 miles.

Guisborough is an attractive market town set in rural surroundings on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. Steeped in history, Guisborough is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the town's most notable feature is the beautiful ruined abbey, Gisborough Priory; standing in full glory, to its original height of 97 feet, the dramatic gothic east gable towers high over the market town and has become a well-known icon of the town. This bustling small town has twice-weekly market days, a good selection of eateries, excellent pubs and many independent shops. Around Guisborough sits the spectacular woodland of Guisborough Forest. Guisborough Forest & Walkway is situated in Pinchinthorpe on the outskirts of Guisborough at the northern end of the A173. It extends for 2.5 miles along part of the route followed by the old Guisborough Branch Railway line, heading west towards Nunthorpe, and east to Guisborough Forest, which is managed by Forest Enterprise. It is a gateway site to the North York Moors National Park and offers splendid views of Roseberry Topping to the south. Points of local interest include Highcliff Nab and Hanging Stone. Captain Cook 92s Monument is also within walking distance. The Cleveland Way and the Tees Link walks pass through Guisborough Forest, and are just two of the many walking routes easily accessible to visitors. This super country park has cycle trails, walking routes, bridleways, a trim trail and an easier sculpture trail. The park includes the Guisborough Walkway which runs along the former trackbed of the Middlesbrough to Whitby railway line. This includes a wetland area with boardwalks, woodlands and grasslands. You can also climb Highcliff Nab for fabulous views of Teeside and the coast. The park is also very popular with mountain bikers with a number of super trails to explore. There is an excellent visitor centre with full details of all the trails in the park. The long distant trail of the Cleveland Way passes close by, whilst nearby Roseberry Topping is well worth the climb to take in the spectacular views. An easy thirty minute drive brings you to the Heritage Coastline, with historic villages and resorts, including Staithes, Saltburn and Whitby to enjoy.
