  • "Willow Nook is in a delightfully remote valley, Glaisdale, on the Coast to Coast path."

We stayed there as a base for the walk and my husband ferried us (my brother and I) to the start of each days walk and picked us up at the end. The cottage is lovely: well equipped, comfy beds, warm and clean. We enjoyed sitting in the sunny conservatory looking at the view.. We mastered the TV and caught up on programmes we don’t have at home! A lovely memorable stay.

Dear Ann Thank you for your wonderful feedback and we look forward to welcoming you back to Willow Nook in the future The owners Property Owner

Power cut lasting an hour, candles, torches all good and in working order. Otherwise lovely cottage in nice area

Sorry you experienced difficulties with the TV. You were not alone. The extreme weather (Storm Babet) caused power outages across the North Yorkshire area. This could have caused problems with TV reception. However we will look at the TV. We did respond via the Sykes app to your mobile number and did leave a message after being contacted by Sykes, I also tried to ring. Regardless of the issues with the TV etc we hope you enjoyed your stay at Willow Nook and look forward to welcoming you again Property Owner

  • "We very much enjoyed our stay at Willow Nook!"

The cottage was very clean and comfortable, especially the bed. We loved the new bedlinnen. Everything had been thought of. The conservatory is a nice and light space, with a beautiful view of the countryside. Nice enclosed garden. Unfortunately the tumble dryer in the shed didn't work when we wanted to use it. Beautiful spacious kitchen, our only recommendation would be to throw away the food in the cupboard left by previous guests (something the cleaner could do), or maybe donate it to charity. We would certainly book again!

Thank you for your good feed back and glad you enjoyed your stay at Willow Nook. The Tumble dryer is plugged into a switched socket. Maybe that was turned off. We will Look into that. The food issue will be sorted out. We look forward to welcoming you back The owners. Property Owner

Sitting on the lovely blue sofa in the conservatory for morning coffee is so peaceful and relaxing looking over the valley. We have visited Glaisdale previously but it’s our first time in this cottage. We will definitely book Willow Nook again and can definitely recommend it to everyone.

The local train service to Whitby was a good outing. We also enjoyed visiting the local pubs which had a good choice of meals.

It’s the kind of place you want to shout from the rooftops how good it is but at the same time don’t want to tell everyone. The small thoughtful touches & the quality of home comforts is a credit to the owners. The cottage is stunning and the views are breathtaking. I could not say one bad thing I just loved my time there & I know my husband & our 2 dogs would agree.

Thank you so much for your wonderful comments - much appreciated. We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future. Susan & Richard Property Owner

  • "Property was as described and well presented when we arrived."

The photo of the front of the outside makes it look on a steep road, it’s hilly but not too bad until you walk to the local Pub/Railway station, now that is very steep. We walked it a few times and as long as you have decent walking shoes on and don’t have mobility problems you should be ok. One of the neighbours approached me within 5 mins of arriving because I was parked on their side of the road about to unload, They said I was blocking access, which to be fair I was, but there were no road markings or signs advising and in the dark in a strange place it wasn’t immediately obvious. She didn’t seem happy when I said I would unload before moving, but we had driven for 3 hours and wasn’t going to be bullied a local who is obviously hacked off when people park outside her house. We ended up having to park further back up the street which was no problem in the end. The rooms were nice especially the conservatory which was a lovely place to chill in the afternoon as it went dark. Staff at the pub were nice and friendly and do food Wed - Sun. Only one slight negative - though I’m a bit conflicted about it. There is a gas/electricity usage monitor in the kitchen, which on the one hand is a good idea to see what you are using, but I felt it puts a bit of undue pressure on visitors to be aware of how much the power has cost that day/week. Definitely worth staying at, train takes about 30 mins into Whitby and there are lots of quality pub/restaurants in the area, which you would probably need to drive to, and if you have bright sunny weather (though chilly) like we had, you will have a lovely time (you’ll still enjoy it even if you don’t have decent weather). I would have fed back so of the more negative issues directly to the owner but there were no contact details so had to put them on here instead.

  • "In the winter the cottage is quite cold , need to use the log fire ."

Needs more matches to light as they were damp. Rear conservatory come dining room not really usable due to temperature . Facilities excellent , cupboards that still have previous visitors food in needs checking through and clearing out as some items are out of date and a health risk . Location excellent as is the local pub Arncliffe Arms good wholesome food and nice staff.

Thank you for your feedback we always listen to our guests and aim to to provide a positive experience. There are central heating radiators in every room. These are timed but can be overridden manually. The Log burner is in addition to the radiator. There is a electronic clicker lighter by the fire. The Conservatory has a radiator controlled by a thermostat. Again it is timed but can be overridden by turning on and adjusting to temperature. All the instructions are in the visitors information Booklet. With reference to visitors food in the cupboard we have no control over what is left, but there are condiments etc which the guests can use. These will be checked and any items out of date will be disposed of. Thank you for the feedback and look forward to welcoming you again in the future. Regards Property Owner

..from the moment we arrived and entered the cottage we felt so happy. We totally relaxed into it and just couldn't have wished for anything better. Well stocked kitchen which was great as we like to cook. Parking outside was easy and there was always a space outside the cottage. Beds were firm but comfy. Feedback for anyone else who is staying especially in the winter is it was very cold when we turned up and there was no wood left for the wood burner (Sykes listed there should be a starter pack) so take some wood with you, once the log burner is on it warms up really really quickly. overall clean and comfortable cottage in a Great location with everything you need.

  • "We had an exchange of emails with Stephen from the Customer Relations team at the start of last week after we had been unable to reach your office by phone and relating to the amount of consumables that were available when we arrived, and as follows: 1) little more than one toilet roll in the main bathroom, 2) a single dishwasher tablet to last the week, 3) less than 1" of washing up liquid in the sole container, and 4) a layer of 3 Yorkshire tea-bags over some ordinary, unbranded ones below in the tea container."

In addition, and quite unlike in most holiday rentals nowadays where guests usually arrive to find milk and wine in addition to some biscuits, there was a single packet of biscuits that we know had a value of < £2. Let me be clear here. We had a lovely stay at Willow Nook, which is a well-presented and very comfortable place to stay in a lovely location and which we would heartily recommend. HOWEVER, the paucity of the above items frankly says "mean" and penny pinching. We would not have blinked at paying a further £5 to be adequately provided with all of the above with some milk on arrival. In his reply Stephen said: "Property owners run their property on a self catering basis, and the facilities that are left are to be used primarily as a starter pack and are not expected to last the whole week, but more of a facility to use for when you first arrive and for you then to purchase your own for the duration of your stay. Different property owners have different ways of working so it could be possible you have stayed in properties with more available than Willow Nook." That suggests that all this is of the owner's choosing. In which case, please provide our feedback to the owner about the impression that this left on us and will leave on future guests. Moreover, there is absolutely nothing in the property description that tells that we should expect to bring such supplies, and it is not customary nor our experience in the many self-catering places that we have stayed in over many years. It is simply not acceptable. Trying to fair here, the guest book has no record of other guests having stayed for more than a few days, such that the housekeepers possibly did not know that we would be staying for a week and require more loo rolls and washing-up liquid. Hard to believe, but possible. Willow Nook is a lovely place and we had a most enjoyable stay. However those first impressions were not favourable ones. Fortunately, with the owners, it is in your gift to quickly and cheaply improve.
