  • "Fab 50th bday wknd really loved it thanks."

Things I would improve; the smell in kitchen from gas although I guess u can’t do much about it. The double bed in the non en suite bedroom is no where near as comfy as the other. Inferior mattress So other couple will always feel like raw deal. Proper shower Over that bath would be better. Great location and house and I’d defo go again if some of these improved. ESP mattress.

  • "Absolutely lovely house with everything that was needed for our stay."

We took our dog with us and there is a hole in the hedge, like stated on previous reviews. It would be perfect if this was repaired as the farmer wasn’t too happy that our dog got out, as he has horses in the field beside the garden. Lovely little village. Would definitely return and would definitely recommend.

  • "We had a lovely stay here to celebrate my dads birthday, perfect for 8 people."

Really clean and had everything you need, could just probably do with another shower!

  • "We enjoyed our stay at Anvil cottage (3 generations of the same family) and found it comfortable and well equipped."

The hot tub was a great addition. A few aspects concerned us; there was a strong smell of oil / kerosene coming from the boiler in the utility room which seeped into the adjoining kitchen and pool room if the doors weren't kept shut. Also, the floor tiles in the en-suite bathroom were very slippy when wet - a grab rail would be helpful. The dishwasher door constantly catching on the door frame was a nuisance - a notch cut into the door frame would probably solve the problem. Overall though we had a really enjoyable holiday.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Anvil Cottage, the games room & hot tub were the main reason we chose it as we had 4 teenagers with us who used them daily."

The cottage is spacious & airy with great furnishings, the lounge furniture was especially comfortable for relaxing & it was warm & cosy despite it being so big. The only suggestion we’d make would be to have another shower in the family bathroom as everyone had to use the one in the en-suite. We would definitely stay here again & recommend it to big families.

  • "Beautiful comfortable house and we all had a fab stay thank you, we will be back."

As a side note the microwave didn't work nor did the extractor fan on the hob. And a second shower would have been useful.

  • "We had a great weekend staying at the Anvil Cottage with family members as a half-way holiday between Dumfries and Bedfordshire."

Beautiful location, the house was well equipped and well laid out. The log burner and the hot tub were the best features for us. The owner supplied some sticks but we also visited the shop and bought some sticks and kindling for the rest of our stay (£9.50 for both) along with some baked goods for lunch. The pub in the village does amazing food, we had takeaway on the Saturday night. We went in at 6 to order and got some drinks too, they called us an hour later when it was ready to collect. Unfortunately they couldn’t fit us in for Sunday lunch the next day but we did walk to the next village and had some amazing pub food from The Duke of Wellington (20 min walk). There was a selection of games and puzzles in the game room along with pool table, and all the TVs are smart TVs meaning you could log into Netflix etc if you wanted to. Would definitely return!

  • "Brilliant holiday had by all of us and would certainly stay again!"

The place was clean and had so much facilities that we didn't even know would be provided (tea towels, dishcloths, dishwasher tabs, toilet roll etc). Clean bed sheets and tonnes of clean towels were great for all. Really good place to stay! The back garden is NOT secure for dogs, there's a large hole in the fence under one of the bushes where all dogs will escape given half a chance. It would be better for all dog owners if you could fix that but thank you for providing the very long lead and doggy treats. Thank you for the stay!

  • "Had a lovely stay at anvil cottage with family."

Village was lovely and welcoming, loved the pub and the post. Hot tub and games room great and dog and grandchildren love the garden. Minor problems were kitchen needs stocking with a few more utensils and facility to make filter coffee. Not enough seating in lounge for all seven. However our stay was wonderful and I would recommend it.

  • "The rooms were really big and the house was quite modern and clean."

The hot tub was nice and the table pool room was very big. The kicthen did not have enough utensils to help cook meals. It didn’t even have a strainer. The house did creek quite a lot. The house is not near the grave yard, and it does have a couple of neighbours. Overall it was an enjoyable holiday.

  • "Had a really relaxing and enjoyable stay."

Would definitely come Back. Lovely house. Lovely area. Welcoming village. Negatives were mucky cup in cupboard. Spiders and wood lice. TVs Not working in games room. Paint coming away from wall in dining area. Electric socket not working at side of sink. These are things that the owners probably wouldn’t be aware of. Doors hard to close at back. Happy for only positive feedback to be published as only minor points.
