Good facilities within the cottage, ample parking. Good sized rooms - we were 6 adults and 2 children and had ample space. Loved the Pool/Games room and the hot tub. Lovely local pub a short stroll away. Garden Centre 2 miles away (short drive or 30 min walk) and about 25 minutes to Northallerton. Towels aren’t included but wasn’t highlighted on the advertisement, had to call Sykes but was all sorted within an hour - very impressed by the service.

  • "I was worried upon reading some recent reviews about the cleanliness of the cottage as I have cancer and am immunocompromised I have to be very careful."

But I need not have worried it was spotless and what a beautiful home. The pictures do not give you a clear indication of size. This place is huge. The attention to detail being a home away from home the owners have attempted is amazing. Even down to the salt and vinegar in the cupboard to the welcome bottle of milk and biscuits. Really good. Tips for future guests and owners: A a family of 8 we needed more toilet paper. Don't know about anyone else but in our house we use at least 2 rolls a day no idea what they do with it. If your taking dogs their is a couple of holes in the fence which could be easily fixed with chicken wire. Our dog got into next doors garden 3 times so in the end we couldn't leave the doors open. So take some crate panels if you have them to block the holes but this definitely needs fixing asap. The hot tub was amazing and was used by us 4 times a day being 8 of us and a hot tub for 4 people. At the end of the trip it did turn green. The owners leave chlorine but 1tsp in 3 pots assuming per night but on the info left it says after every use so definitely need more chlorine leaving if you want guests to keep it clean. All in all though we absolutely loved it and would definitely return.

  • "The property as a whole was equipped with everything you could need living in the countryside and the little messages on appliances were a nice touch."

The WiFi managed to keep all the kids happy which is normally weak in such a rural area. There was alot of bugs and wasps but this was a given. Maybe a couple of wasp traps would be a nice touch as this did impact our time in the garden. The only other slight issue with was the hot tub with 4 kids this got dirty after the first day even with sandals being used before entering. Although the chlorine was provided to input at the end of the evening this did not clean the hot tub sufficiently due to the amount of suicidal flys wanting to enter it...daily maintenance might be a better solution. Finally although damp was declared on a note when we arrived at the hotel that should of been declared prior as my wife has asthma and was a bit heavy on her chest. All in all though we had a great time and for the money over the summer holidays was great value, lovely little town.

We had to clean bathroom/ shower and toilet facilities before we could use them. Then found the hot tub was not fit for purpose. It was green! Not clean at all and although Skye’s were helpful the owner did not get in touch so over a three day stay we were unable ti use the hot tub. Purposely booked the cottage for the hot tub! Steps to hot tub rusty and rotten. Place could do with a deep clean and to be decorated. Highly priced for what we considered to low key facilities to accommodate up to eight adults. Definitely would not recommend!

  • "This is a difficult review to write as the property has lots of really good features, it’s lovely and warm, hot tub is a real treat in the country setting, games room is a bonus, house is big enough for 8 not to feel crammed in, local village is nice and residents friendly and there was nothing else we needed to make the stay enjoyable, however we do echo previous reviews, Maintenance isn’t great, there is a strong smell of oil in the back kitchen and games room, the decking is very slippy round the hot tub and it would really benefit from a gazebo/pergola above to aid use in the winter, the mattress in second double room is uncomfortable and although surfaces clean on arrival we felt it could do with a bit of a deep clean."

Also previously commented on, one shower for 8 people is a slight struggle. We also appreciated the little treats on arrival but felt the note regarding “party people” was a little harsh and could have been worded better for those families not in the category the letter is aimed at. However none of the above would lead us to complain as we had a great time with the kids playing games etc just felt it might help for improvements to be made.

We couldn't use the games room as there was a strong smell of oil/petrol coming from what I think was the boiler. The welcome note in the kitchen we felt was quite patronising "you aren't in benidorm don't annoy the hell out of the neighbors and don't presume we are far away" did not make us feel very welcome after reading that. The book near the front door states that all TVs have Netflix but they dont. Locals are very nice, shop is half a minute walk away which was great. Positives are that the house was clean, beds all comfy, shower and bath were great.

The the house was well equipped and the hot tub was lovely. The hosts had left some logs, fire lighters, chocolates and dog treats which was a nice touch. There was also ample washing up liquid and tea towels available. There are a few maintenance issues we came across which centred around the kitchen: the ice machine didn’t work/was frozen up, the oven control knob only had one or two settings that worked, the dishwasher door bashed into the architrave & the washer door was also not fitted correctly.

  • "The house was beautiful, and would definitely stay again yes there were a few things that maybe could do with renewing - a couple of the out door chairs were broken but there were plenty of other seating, I needed to dry the towels off after going in the hot tub - but the tumble dryer seem to sound like the bearing have gone, but simply shutting the utility door drowned the banging out ( only needed it on ten minutes) so wasn't a major problem, and not all holiday rentals have tumble dryer so it was a positive plus."

It met our expectations and more. It’s location is ideal for exploring that area of North Yorkshire. Such pretty little villages and countryside. Prior to our visit I had read some of the previous reviews that had been written and had a few concerns. None however were founded. Some people are just too fussy. Yes there was a smell in the utility room when the boiler started up, but it’s oil powered heating so it is going to give off fumes, but all that’s needed is to open the window. The cottage is ideal for 8, fully equipped with everything that you would need. The hot tub is a great bonus and sits in a private garden. The neighbours were very friendly and helpful. We would have no hesitation is recommending this property and will definitely use it again.

The hot tub was a great addition. A few aspects concerned us; there was a strong smell of oil / kerosene coming from the boiler in the utility room which seeped into the adjoining kitchen and pool room if the doors weren't kept shut. Also, the floor tiles in the en-suite bathroom were very slippy when wet - a grab rail would be helpful. The dishwasher door constantly catching on the door frame was a nuisance - a notch cut into the door frame would probably solve the problem. Overall though we had a really enjoyable holiday.

Beautiful location, the house was well equipped and well laid out. The log burner and the hot tub were the best features for us. The owner supplied some sticks but we also visited the shop and bought some sticks and kindling for the rest of our stay (£9.50 for both) along with some baked goods for lunch. The pub in the village does amazing food, we had takeaway on the Saturday night. We went in at 6 to order and got some drinks too, they called us an hour later when it was ready to collect. Unfortunately they couldn’t fit us in for Sunday lunch the next day but we did walk to the next village and had some amazing pub food from The Duke of Wellington (20 min walk).
