  • "No welcome very sparse, shower room needed a good clean, previous people's hairs in shower and dirty sink and radiator."

Bedding didn't feel fresh and had seen better days, also bedroom was quite empty no chair or dresser. But village was beautiful, but would not recommend this cottage

The back yard was perfect for the dogs to enjoy and the pub next door is very welcoming and serves excellent food. We Would definitely return, thank you.

  • "We loved the property which was beautiful and very clean, disappointed with shower as it was very slow."

Nice to haves ..would be a small welcome pack i.e pint of milk (as shops aren’t close by) and some pamphlets on the surrounding area including places to visit and local walks. We did enjoy our short stay and the village was very welcoming and friendly. Great to be able to park straight outside as well.

  • "Great property but some guidance on what to do upon leaving would be great."

There was no indication as to whether we had to clean or strip the beds or anything. Also we weren't sure the back yard was secure prior to arrival so a clearer indication of that would of been great.

  • "Great cottage and ideal location."

Lovely village, my dog loved the walks. Pub next door ideal for food. One issue sofa was not same as listed in photos which was a let down to be honest as old sofa and chair. Apart from that was amazing cottage. Highly recommend but please change sofa.

  • "We had a lovely weeks stay in this cottage, everything was as stated."

The only disappointment that I found was that you clearly state no smoking at the property and on entry there was a very potent Air freshener and I could not have this on as it makes me cough, and it was then very obvious that previous customers at some point had smoked. Including the bedroom which was a shame. Having said this we spent a lot of time sightseeing so didn't allow this to spoil the holiday.

  • "The cottage was lovely and cosy."

The owners had left everything you would need out for us... The only thing was the sofa it wasn't very comfortable I couldn't get up out of it. The little things like teatowels cleaning stuff all was there for us to use. The lovely kitchen was very practical and a washer...very useful as our clothes muddy due to wet weather... We had a lovely chill out time in the cottage, just what we needed. Northallerton Darlington were visited not far away. The pub next door does lovely meals, dog friendly we went there The first night. Our dog was chilled and fell asleep under the radiator... If the weather had been better we would have done more visiting Masham Ripon not so far away. Will do this next time ... I would highly recommend this cottage. Thank you to the owners we had a very nice stay.

  • "Beautiful cottage which was equipped with everything we needed, very clean and homely in a stunning location."

The log fire was a lovely touch, even in June we made sure we made use of it. Our only issue we found was the shower wouldn't get very warm and had low water pressure but this wasn't enough to make much difference to our overall stay. We wish we had booked to stay longer as we didn't want to come home, really hope we can come back again.

About the location

Thirsk 9 miles.

Northallerton is a County town and administrative centre of North Yorkshire, located at the foot of a ridge dividing two river basin areas, the Wiske and the Cod Beck, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on the edge of the Vale of York, between the Hambleton Hills and the Yorkshire Dales. This thriving town boasts market days on Wednesdays and Saturdays, when both sides of the High Street are home to stalls selling a wide range of goods and produce, plus on the fourth Wednesday of the month the market is joined by a farmers' market. Despite its modest size, Northallerton has a number of independent and national shops, including Betty’s Tea Rooms, Lewis & Cooper, an outstanding delicatessan and wine merchant, award-winning butcher’s, artisan baker, greengrocers, two department stores, several supermarkets and bookshops. With good rail links to Newcastle-Upon-Tyne and York, the activities are not just restricted to the countryside. Situated equidistant between the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors, the opportunities for exploration are endless. These include a day at the races at one of the many local courses, including Thirsk, a family trip to the unique Forbidden Corner at Middleham, a trip to a country house such as Newby Hall, Kiplin Hall and Castle Howard, or a round of golf. The restored Victorian resort of Saltburn, plus the pretty beaches and coves of Runswick Bay, Sand's End and Robin Hood's Bay, along with the town of Whitby, are all within one hour's drive away.
