  • "Loved every minute at the CowShed in Whitby."

Easy to find with good instructions x a whiff of fustiness as we went in but I guess we went nose blind as the holiday progressed x lots to do if you want to, me, I just preferred to knit outside on the sun lounger whilst the sun was kind to us. Very comfy bed , only draw back wardrobe space was too small, little to no drawer space so we lived out of our case. Compact kitchen with everything you need x the furries enjoyed it very much downside the field and surrounding paddock are not secure, gaps enough for inquisitive pooches to get through to a very busy road with some fast & noisy traffic x if you love hustle n bustle you’ll love it here but if you truly want country peace n quiet it’s not for you. Very little input from owners James n Carrie who are there on site if you need them x don’t forget to take Bath stuff and tee towels oh and buy bbq coals and wood for burning if you’re a cold soul x and you enjoy a bbq x will def return with our dogs again x ideal base for exploring Whitby, Scarborough Robin hoods bay x

An excellent, quirky, extremely clean property and great for our dog with loads of room for him to run. The owners are the best. Well situated for visiting the gorgeous East Coast and the beautiful town of Whitby. We can highly recommend the Cow Shed.

The beds comfortable.Outside is expertly finished . View to die for . Welcome pack would be a good idea , especially after a very long trip for us . But that my only criticism. Highly recommended.

  • "Interesting property that has been well and creatively converted."

Heaps of charm with a really phenomenal view across the fields to the sea and Abbey. The owners were really responsive and loads of attention has gone into the grounds and setting. The only watch out is the cottage is small and so lacks storage space both in the bedrooms and kitchen. As a result the amount of crockery and cutlery was very limited. The dining table was narrow and a bit of a challenge for four people and clothes storage was limited. That being said we would recommend this property, perfect location with bucket loads or character.

  • "Our stay in the cow shed was lovely."

Very nice little decorative touches. A great base for exploring all the wonderful places Whitby area has to offer. The outside area was fantastic for our two dogs, each morning they couldn’t wait to run down the field to explore the stream. The only things that would have made it perfect would be a gate on the little driveway to make it secure for the dogs, I was always terrified they would run out into the main road if we didn’t get them to the gated field quick enough. The sofa clearly has had better days and was a little hard and lumpy, and the duvet and pillows imo should be natural not synthetic. All the lovely attention to detail makes it a shame towels are not provided and if the weather is wet use of a washer dryer would be great as there is nowhere to dry off wet clothes. That said, it was still a lovely relaxing stay and we were quite sad to leave.

It was as warm and cosy even though it was very cold and windy in November. It’s such a fun quirky little place to stop and everything was super clean,. The beds very comfy. Would definitely recommend.

  • "An easy and pleasant transaction."

A great cottage in a convenient location for all major attractions. As a barn conversion the top floor bedroom is a little tight is you are tall and advisable too wear ear plugs at night as naturally the floorboards creak which is to be expected and adds to the character. Highly recommended.

  • "I will not be using Sykes Cottages again."

The photos and the description do not give the true reality of the cottage and its surroundings, until you actually stay there. The heating didn't work due to a leaking radiator, which caused the boiler to loose pressure, and a broken room thermostat. Overall a disappointing stay.

It was well equipped and the beds were very comfortable. Really pleased to see it was spotless and a perfect location with a sea view. We came with our two children who loved the large sofa and digital TV with Netflix and WiFi included. So much to do nearby - walks, cycling, the beach, waterfalls, exploring Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay nearby. We’d be very happy to come back here again!
