  • "Another great stay at this property"

  • "We arrived at the Cow Shed after a very tiring journey from Bedfordshire."

And what a lovely surprise this little house was. It was warm and welcoming but was a little disappointed that there was no welcome pack of milk or teabags which I thought was unusual compared to othe Sykes property we have stayed at. Luckily we had arranged a Shopping delivery so we finally got our much awaited cuppa. This place is warm comfy and tidy. Bed was soft and welcoming. Bathroom was a surprise as the roll top bath and waterfall shower head was fantastic. The whole place was including the paddocks were well looked after and the views once the fog cleared were amazing. This cottage is ideally situated on the Moors with Whitby about 4miles away, Goathland/ Aidensfield about the same. And Thornton le Dale about 40mins away. Pickering roughly the same distance. But with the Moors make sure you take warm clothes and wet proofing clothes as the wind and rain are torrential when we stayed. We would have liked to have had a GuestBook where other guests have stayed and written about their adventures to read in the cottage as they could pass on their trips. Would we return to this cottage? Definitely it is a little Gem on the Moor.

  • "Amazing week in Whitby."

Beautiful cottage with fantastic views. Full use of extensive grounds and enjoyed by our golden retriever exercising in not one but two secure fields! Cottage very cosy, clean and well cared for. All facilities in good working order. Weather was kind to us so we travelled out every day - lots to see and do locally. Good range of nearby shops for provisions. Managed to count total of 14 'cow' images in and around the cottage- think 16 is the most found. Quirky bookcase my favourite item ! Many thanks to Carrie the owner for a fabulous holiday

  • "This was our second visit and we love staying at The Cowshed with our two dogs - it’s a lovely cottage with fabulous views of both the abbey and the sea."

It has all the amenities you could want, however there is a definite issue with WiFi reception and this impacted on the TV reception as well as mobile phones and tablets etc. The owner did everything possible to try and fix the problem while we were there, but we had to accept that the whole area suffers from poor reception. If you have children who want to use tablets or stream programmes this could definitely be a problem. Needless to say we don’t, so we’ll definitely be going again

  • "The Cowshed is a lovely welcoming and cosy barn conversion."

If your looking for a quiet and private break we would highly recommend a stay here. Although it is situated next to a busy road you cannot hear the traffic once inside the property. We both slept really comfortably all night. The Log Burner is a welcome addition to the property and as the weather was not particularly kind to us on our stay we utilised it daily and it provided both warmth & comfort. The sofa was a little uncomfortable so may need replacing soon - it was lumpy and the cushions sink that would be the only critism - apart from that a really nice location close to all amenities and well maintained by the owners. We would have no hesitation in staying here again and recommending it to other guests. Very nice :-)

Such a gorgeous cottage, the whole family thoroughly enjoyed their stay! Id definitely recommend to my friends and family and already have! This was my dogs first holiday and he actually seems a little depressed now he’s home! If I were to suggest anything though, it would be that there was a gate on the entrance, to block off being able to get onto the busy road! We couldn’t fully relax as my dog could easily get onto the road and nearly did. I’d of loved to of been able to keep the door open so he could be in and out all day. Besides that! It was the perfect stay. Thankyou very much.

The views across to the sea and the Abbey were amazing and the dogs had a terrific time in the fields. The accommodation itself had everything we needed. The couch and beds were comfortable, the tv was a great size although the wi-fi was playing up a bit and the tv in the bedroom didn’t get a good signal for some reason, not that it was a problem as I was too tired to watch it after all our sightseeing. Would definitely recommend and would come back to stay in future when visiting Whitby again. Gardens are very well kept. We loved the quirkyness of the cowshed and counted 12 cows in the house. Nearly missed the salt and pepper lol x thanks again x

Very comfy bed , only draw back wardrobe space was too small, little to no drawer space so we lived out of our case. Compact kitchen with everything you need x the furries enjoyed it very much downside the field and surrounding paddock are not secure, gaps enough for inquisitive pooches to get through to a very busy road with some fast & noisy traffic x if you love hustle n bustle you’ll love it here but if you truly want country peace n quiet it’s not for you. Very little input from owners James n Carrie who are there on site if you need them x don’t forget to take Bath stuff and tee towels oh and buy bbq coals and wood for burning if you’re a cold soul x and you enjoy a bbq x will def return with our dogs again x ideal base for exploring Whitby, Scarborough Robin hoods bay x

Heaps of charm with a really phenomenal view across the fields to the sea and Abbey. The owners were really responsive and loads of attention has gone into the grounds and setting. The only watch out is the cottage is small and so lacks storage space both in the bedrooms and kitchen. As a result the amount of crockery and cutlery was very limited. The dining table was narrow and a bit of a challenge for four people and clothes storage was limited. That being said we would recommend this property, perfect location with bucket loads or character.

  • "Our stay in the cow shed was lovely."

Very nice little decorative touches. A great base for exploring all the wonderful places Whitby area has to offer. The outside area was fantastic for our two dogs, each morning they couldn’t wait to run down the field to explore the stream. The only things that would have made it perfect would be a gate on the little driveway to make it secure for the dogs, I was always terrified they would run out into the main road if we didn’t get them to the gated field quick enough. The sofa clearly has had better days and was a little hard and lumpy, and the duvet and pillows imo should be natural not synthetic. All the lovely attention to detail makes it a shame towels are not provided and if the weather is wet use of a washer dryer would be great as there is nowhere to dry off wet clothes. That said, it was still a lovely relaxing stay and we were quite sad to leave.
