  • "Just spent a week at this lovely cottage set in an idelic location."

The cottage is set on a very quiet small farm location, just a small drive from many delightful villages and towns, Lealholm, Denby, Glaisdale, Goathland, and Whitby. The cottage is well equipped and very comfortable, the owner is very tentative and today we arrived home totally refreshed and relaxed. Definitely will be returning next year.

  • "If you are looking for peace and quiet away from it all, this is the place, a quiet farm on the edge of Danby moor with lovely views of Fryup dale."

The friendly owner is wonderful and very knowledgable about walks around the locality, its wildlife and local history. Its a working farmstead with the owner's horses in the fields and stables, chickens in the yard plus rabbits and sheep in nearby fields as well as extensive bird life and you might catch a rare glimpse of a stoat in the fields just outside the farm. Wildflower cottage itself is spacious and well appointed and very dog friendly. We will certainly be going there again. C&G and Sam the dog.

  • "Lovely cottage and surroundings."

We were really made to feel at home . Very relaxing. Lovely to be out in the country and away from the pollution of the towns and cities. Just a lovely place to relax . Had a couple of nice breakfasts at Danby Hall nearby. Good to be out on the moors, even when the weather was not good. Driving some of the roads can be challenging , especially in bad weather but you get used to it . Lots of wildlife to see. Would definitely holiday here again. Just next time I wont forget my wellies!

Sarah was very nice and pointed out very good drive off the property. We would have found a welcome pack helpful, but to be fair we were told to bring food. We come up to Yorkshire for a wedding at Danby Castle, so the cottage was ideal

  • "A very peaceful location and lovely views."

The cottage is comfortable and has three different areas to spend time in - useful for rainy days. The upstairs space is a nice one to relax in and the beds are also very comfortable. The seating area at the front is lovely to sit when it's sunny, amongst the flowers, and watch the chickens wandering around. Good little walk straight from the cottage up to the views from Danby Beacon and we did other good walks in the area. Sarah, the owner, was helpful and fixed a problem very promptly. The only thing I would change about the cottage is to add is a sharp knife for the kitchen and to fix a small problem with the shower mount. The visitors book shows lots of guests coming back repeatedly and it's easy to see why. We had a lovely week at the cottage and would recommend it.

  • "The location of the cottage is second to none."

This was our 5th visit to the cottage and we never tire of it. Sarah is so friendly and helpful and her knowledge of the area is extensive. It is a perfect getaway with walks on the doorstep which our 2 Labradors absolutely love . It's also a great place to sit out on the patio and relax whilst listening to the bird song on a sunny late afternoon/evening. The track is not that hard to negotiate. Sarah let us take a look in dafodil cottage which looks extremely cosy and welcoming. These cottages are a true escape from the hustle and bustle of busy life but are also close to lively Whitby and other market towns of the North Yorkshire Moors. We hope to return for our 6th visit soon!

Such lovely words, thank you Property Owner

A lovely place to stay. So peaceful and rural, yet close to lots of great places to visit too. The beds were very comfy. After a busy day out it was great to get back and get the wood burner going and play a game around the country kitchen table with a glass of something you fancy! The owner Sarah is very friendly and gave us some eggs fresh and still warm from under one of the hens. A nice touch !

  • "Great Base for a week out and about on the N."

    Y. Moors and Whitby area coast. If you are seeking peace and solitude to rest and recover from life's hectic pace, this is definitely the place, just by Danby moor and Beacon from where you can see great views in all directions for miles on a clear day. Wildflower has all the facilities you will need and the nearby local Co-Op in Castleton is well stocked. Access is via farm tracks and steep hill which was great for our jeep but I wouldn't try it in a very low slung vehicle.

The property also lacks access to wi-if and mobile reception is patchy. An accommodating owner, who lives on site and can be contacted easily if required. The cottage is very ‘rustic’, but practical. It is dog friendly. It definitely suits a family keen on adventure and the experience of rural life, but not one that likes all the modern trappings.

It's not hard to find if you can read a map and its remoteness is wonderful -- hardly any phone reception or data , starry skies, lots of wildlife, we loved it. The cottage is very well equipped -- the usual things I bring were scarcely needed. Contrary to some listings it is two double beds and a third room that is great for children. You do not need to take tea towels. It's a great area with loads to do -- if you don't mind driving a stretch first. We had a lovely holiday.

  • "This cottage is set in the most scenic of locations, the far reaching vistas are something to die for."

There are a wide variety of locations to explore from this location if you can pull yourself away from the comfort of the typical farm house kitchen, the fantastic North York moors are all around, while the cost is a very short journey away, some quite seaside bays and of course the ever popular seaside center of Whitby, try the one hundred and ninety nine steps challenge. We were on holiday over Christmas and had a magical time with grandchildren family and dogs, which are made welcome. The situation is high up on a dale side, which makes it very peaceful and quiet. It's just perfect.

We especially loved all the wildlife and of course the owners 2 horses and chickens . The only drawback was the very steep narrow lane leading to the cottage . Not recommended for a winter break unless you have a 4 wheeled drive .. Other than that small issue the cottage was beautiful and spacious and we will be going back .

Visitors should be aware that access is up a very narrow road up a steep hill which to us was no problem but may be to less confident drivers. Also although it was a dog friendly cottage I had to keep both my dogs on leads as there was no garden as such. However this did not detract in any way from the lovely, cosy cottage and fantastic surroundings which we all thoroughly enjoyed.

But within short drive at the North Sea beaches and lively Whitby. Yorkshire moors offer a unique combination. August seems the best period to go with the different heather types all in flower. The cottage has so very good beds we rarely found before. And enough space to allow longer stays without feeling squeezed also with 2 joint parties or 2 generations. Only not ideal for people who prefer exhaustive showers: there some care has to be taken due to the wooden bathroom floor.
