Absolutely filthy, we left two days early.

Would advise people to avoid this property.

Lovely stay, only thing needed anti slip mat for shower as being elderly a bit unsafe

This was our first visit to this area and to Bishop Cottage, and we were not, on the whole, disappointed.

The photographs on the website are out of date; for example, the lounge carpet has been replaced, and the small shower cubicle has been replaced with a wet room. Previous reviews have mentioned the uncomfortable sofa, but there are plenty of cushions which help. The kitchen is reasonably well equipped, but it is missing a potato peeler and masher. When we rang to see if we would be able to borrow some, they were delivered within 10 minutes. There is a new knife block. We found the oven a bit difficult to use, as the numbers had worn off the dials, but as everyone says, the food at Kaskane is very good if you don’t fancy cooking. The area has plenty to offer, and we’d recommend the Land of Iron, which is almost next door. The towns of Saltburn, Redcar, and Guisborough were all new to us and well worth visiting, as was Ormesby Hall, a National Trust property.

The cottage was conveniently located for the areas attractions and had a reasonable priced restaurant that served good food and the staff were very friendly.

The cottage itself had some slight issues: The TV although a smart TV wasn't connected to the Internet which limited it to terrestrial programs and although there was a did player it wasn't connected to the set. The bathroom had a wet room shower that didn't drain properly and there was no way to clear the water that flooded the rest of the bathroom. The kitchen in comparison to other places we've stayed was not very well equipped (the fryingpan had seen better days) On the plus side the bed was comfortable and a good size. The living room was comfortable with a decent dinning room included. Although we didn't use it the enclosed garden was a plus with furniture for eating outdoors. I got the impression that the cottage needed a slight upgrade to make it a fabulous place to stay.

From start to finish it was lovely cottage, all that required was there to use.

We even had a boiler issue when it stopped working and the owner got it fixed within 20 minutes. Bed was very comfortable, kitchen had all the tools we required and lounge was well spec. Good wifi, (password above the mirror in hall), I missed it! We will be back.

Needs a knife set and oven gloves in the kitchen. Lovely area and near to a good beach. Great walks on Cleveland Way.

Never went on the holiday due to illness.

I did take out your insurance and cancel well in advance but never got a refund. Rubbish company will not book with you again 0 Stars for customers service

What a lovely little cottage.

Short walk to the beech and walks available from the door. Close enough to drive to Whitby and Saltend and Staithes. Well equipped, could maybe do with a sharper knife, ie paring knife in the kitchen. The milk and the chocolates left in the fridge was a lovely touch. Contact with Mrs Robinson when required was a quick response.

The biggest problem was the bed, it was well past it's use by date, you could see the hollows in it through the duvet, it was surprisingly comfy but very harmful to backs.

The sofa probably needs to go to the tip at the same time as the mattress along with the dining chairs, the cushions proved very useful. There seemed to be constant heavy traffic that boomed through and rattled the building, the slabs had been concreted to the building and boundary wall to transmit the impacts on the road. The heating and hot water hadn't been set up correctly, heating water was too hot so the thermostat didn't stop it from over heating and the hot water was well below the 56 degrees it should be for safety only 43 The kitchen utensil were sparse The property lacked adequate ventilation so there was a smell of damp The listing said the was Freesat TV but there was only a very poor selection of freeview We will not be returning

The cottage was fine and served as a good base for exploring.

The food at the Kaskane was very good. Contrary to other reviews, we found the bed comfortable. Just a few minor points, some of the photos are out of date - there is no shower cubicle - it is a wet room and there is no DVD or radio/cd player along with the books, CDs etc as shown in the lounge. The description is inaccurate too - there is no breakfast bar in the kitchen - there is a dining table and chairs in the lounge and there was no BBQ in the garden.

Bishop Cottage was very good, Kaskane Cafe/Bar was great the food is good and the staff are very friendly *****.

But barking dogs spoiled the good weather as sitting out in the garden started them barking.

The cottage was very clean and comfy, we had a lovely holiday, very dog friendly, only 10 minutes walk from a super dog friendly beach.

Comfortable and all on the flat. Kaskane as everyone else says super. Only drawback was tv. Got all the channels on one day only, rest of days very limited. Needs looking at by a tech savvy 5 year old. Already booked again

holiday cottage was as I expected clean throughout . Kaskane food to die for,lovely staff would definitely stay again. My only quibble certain things need updating attention to detail, picket fence needs painting as does bench etc. Shower did not run away properly water even crept into hall so had to use towels to mop up (I was only in there 5 minutes ) but I enjoyed my stay and big Thankyou to all staff well done

Unfortunately the bed was quite uncomfortable so new mattress would be wcit as well as the settee in the living room not particularly comfy but did leave a note for the owner on our departure.

We had a lovely week in Bishop Cottage.

It was warm, cozy and clean and it was great to have a contained outdoor space for our dog. There are good walks all around Skiningrove and the beach is beautiful. Kaskane bar is amazing, great food at very reasonable prices and the staff are lovely. We will be returning.

All the facilities were as listed which was great for our stay and the added bonus of just a short walk to the Kascane, cafe bar. The food at Kascane is very reasonable and we dined out 3 of the 4 night we stayed, one thing to rember is to book a table.

Perfect place for a quiet relaxing break, so peaceful.

10 mins walk to the beach and several other beaches within a short drive for great dog walks. Redcar, Saltburn and Marske. Loved it.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, it was just like ‘home from home.

The cottage was fantastic, the staff and service and food was 5* at the Kaskane pub/restaurant which is part of the complex and also close to a 5* dog friendly beach.

Bishop cottage was beautiful, comfortable and warm, we loved the personal touch, there were some lovely pieces adorning the cottage to make it homely.

The wet room was great for my husband who has mobility problems. We met the owner while we were there lovely lady and the welcome gift of Wine and chocolates was much appreciated. The food at the pub ( Kaskane ) close by was absolutely delicious, the staff are amazing never met such a friendly bunch before nothing was to much trouble. Would recommend this cottage 100 %. Thankyou for letting us stay there.

I have stayed in Bishop Cottage around 5 times now and I always love it.

The cottage is always clean and tidy. It’s very cosy as well. I also like the fact that it’s secure outside for my dogs. It’s well situated for the beautiful beach and surrounding areas. The owners and people around are always warm and friendly as well. Would highly recommend, can’t wait for my next visit.

The tv kept going blank as Freesat kept saying no signal, also the beds a bit hard, other than that I think it’s really good value for money, and I highly recommend the Kaskane cafe for English food, much better than value for money.

The food is excellent and the best fish and chips anywhere, love it thanks I’ve been about 6 times now, lovely

Bishop cottage is in a quiet location and we used it as a base for doing some coastal path walking along the Cleveland Way, for a short break it has everything anyone could want and is clean and comfortable.

Had a Good Time this is not a Complaint but is meant to be helpful.

But several things listed were not provided. BBQ. Radio/ CD player. A sharp knife /bread knife is needed. I would recommend others to bring the following: Washer no powder/tabs. DVD player no DVDs No salt/Pepper. The grass was long and needed cutting. The picnic bench was in poor order needs painting

Sykes postcode for property is wrong.

TS13 4AP took us down a lane in Carlin How. I got the correct one from Kaskane cottages TS13 4AY Dining table legs quite wobbly The following would be good to have in the kitchen : sharp knife (the one in the drawer is useless) tongs, coffee cafetiere, dustpan & brush

Lovely warm cottage, very comfortable, heating easy to use and we loved the shower.

we would highly recommend the cottage as a base. Good location, we used the local bus service, seemed daft to use the car for £2 one way each. The one and only suggestion is the knife used for cutting, it needs sharpening , very blunt. Loved the food in Kaskade, all home cooked and the staff helpful and friendly. It was a lovely atmosphere. We really enjoyed our stay.

Minor points, but extractor fan not working in the bathroom and hot water tap kept turning!

All door handles were sticking and noisey soon altered with oil/grease. Like I say just minor points. We did enjoy our stay and it was a great base for up and down the coast. Thanks.

Spotlessly clean.

Lovely comfortable bed and furniture. Really loved the wet room and the decor was so nice in the cottage . Ample parking and safe for our dog. The tree outside the lounge is beautiful. (One small niggle- no hairdryer! Never had that problem in a Sykes cottage before). The listing mentioned a BBQ but we couldn't find it. Enjoyed visiting Kaskane- good food and friendly staff!

We stayed in Bishop cottage last year so we knew what to expect.

The cottage was very clean and there were lovely white towels provided. I have marked comfort down because of the bed; the mattress is lumpy and should either be replaced or provided with a thick topper. Also, the frying pan is no longer non-stick and not big enough to cook breakfast for two. Having said that, we enjoyed our stay and may well return. We had a lovely meal at the on-site KasKane; fish, chips and mushy peas, the batter was light and crispy, just right. However, it is mainly an eatery and a shame that you can’t just go in for a drink, you have to sit outside, which is fine if the weather is good but not so if inclement. I think an information sheet on recycling would be useful or stickers on the outside bins telling you what goes in which bin because not all councils operate the same colour coding system. Finally I would like to say thank you for the milk and chocolates, they were much appreciated and a nice touch!

The bed frame was a little hard in middle as it’s two box sections put together a new bed frame would put that right, but other than that it was most perfect place everything you needed for your stay was in the cottage, it was in an ideal place to travel to Whitby Scarborough Saltburn by the sea, Redcar, the food in the pub on the site was 10/10 and good prices locals and all staff were so friendly, will definitely book again loved it

Vac didn't appear to be working and no brush to tidy up before we left.

Lovely and clean and the pint of milk was appreciated We did find the bed uncomfortable due to feeling the springs through the mattress and think a new mattress would be better for others in the future Definitely need a chest of drawers in place of the chair by the wardrobe as we had to live out of our suitcases Something not as big but it would have been great to have a bread knife in the kitchen

I have had a wonderful holiday at Bishops Cottage, it was perfect.

I would throughly recommend Bishops Cottage as a holiday destination. Everything you need is available, it's well appointed, very comphy, nice & clean, lovely and warm. The local beach is a 10 minute walk, well worth a visit. There are plenty of walks available, you will need a head for heights if you tackle the cliff tops! The location is perfect for exploring the coast, and easy access to the North York Moors. Kaskane do wonderful food, lovely tobe able to take my dog with me for tea. Staff are very efficient and easy to approach.

Overall, very happy with the cottage.

We had a problem with the heating but within minutes of ringing the number provided it was sorted. Someone had felt the need to leave a note about how to operate the tv but despite our best efforts we could only get a very limited number of channels. I know we could have rung for help with it but, to be honest, we didn’t watch enough tv to warrant it. The nearby restaurant/bar is really just a restaurant and unless you book a table for a meal you can’t sit inside and get a drink. We did sit outside in the late afternoon sunshine and have a drink but it was too cold at night. As there were no other pubs within easy walking distance it was disappointing. Having said all that, we are planning a repeat visit next spring!

This is the third time we have stayed at this cottage and as we have found before the cottage was lovely and clean.

The property was very good, a lovely large lounge dinner, wet room, good size bedroom and equipped kitchen.

The location is good for visiting other places but it is just half a mile from a great beach, no need to go elsewhere. A restaurant is attached to the cottages, serving good food. Property very clean.

What a lovely week we have had at Bishop Cottage.

The cottage is clean and comfortable and very dog friendly. We ate several times at the Kaskane restaurant on site and the food is amazing and we could take our dog with us. The beaches in Skinningrove are beautiful and the area has lots to explore. We can’t wait to return.

(However as has been pointed out in previous reviews there is no breakfast bar to seat 4 in the kitchen & the shower is a wet room - photo & description should be updated). Weather was good, only 1 wet day. Able to do plenty of coastal & moorland walking & the frequent bus service enabled us to do linear walks. Our disappointment was the fact that the 1 bed-roomed cottage next door, although the same size as ours allowed up to 4 dogs (ours was only allowed 1). We could hear the 4 dogs next door barking through the partition wall. It was particularly annoying when they were let out into their garden area & were barking at 3am/4am & again at 6.30am. Didn't appreciate the broken sleep & early wake-up calls during our holiday.

Really comfortable and has everything we needed any problems are dealt with straight away and the owners are pleasant and friendly

I would recomend Sykes cottage because they are dog friendly and clean.

Cottage was incredibly clean.

So much so that the amount of bleach everywhere got on my clothes and ruined an irreplaceable £65 top. If you love the peace and quiet then this is the place to go. Nothing really in the area and the Kaskane bar required you to book even just for a drink which was disappointing. The beach is lovely and perfect for dogs. The cottage was warm and cosy but the sofa was uncomfortable due to the sofa bed. The shower is a wet room and water gets everywhere. Ideally situated if you don’t mind driving everywhere.

Second visit to Bishop cottage and enjoyed my time their again.

Lovely cottage, nice and clean

The cottage is very clean and comfortable, the kitchen can only be used by one person as it is small but it’s facilities were ok, there is no breakfast bar in this cottage as listed.

The garden is enclosed, not communal, which suited us and our dog, the shower is not as shown in the listing either, it is a wet room so care needs to be taken as water goes everywhere, the shower itself was ok. There is no sofa bed as listed and no radio /cd player. It’s a nice little cottage for two plus dog and a good base for touring the area. Food in the restaurant was good and very reasonably priced, staff very lovely and helpful.

The stay at Bishop cottage was great, really clean and tidy with great facilities.

The outside area had a front and side area to catch the sun which was really good. The cafe/bar on site has really excellent food and recommend the steak pie. Also the sandy beach at Skinnigrove is amazing and our dog loved it. Would certainly recommend a stay at the Kascane cottages.

This was my second stay at Bishops cottage,and I absolutely loved it!

The whole holiday,from start to finish was wonderful.The cottage itself was like a home from home.It was clean,warm,tidy and we'll equipped,and although I didn't have a lot of contact with the owners,I found them very welcoming,and very helpful.The location itself was lovely,as was the local area,with lots to see and do.There was only one,very minute thing,and that was mattress,which could possibly do with replacing.With that in mind,I had a lovely time,on both occasions,and I will definitely be returning!(providing there will be availability!)

Very quiet and peaceful.

Due to lock down in area, not great deal to do. Enjoyed exercising dogs along the beach several times a day, enjoyed the fresh air. Wanted for nothing in the bungalow. ASDA about 3.5 miles away, all necessities there. Shame about the weather but, hey it was October! Second visit, will not be the last! Highly recommend this bungalow for a peaceful break away from everything and everybody.

Many walks from the door. Enjoyed our stay so much over Christmas, we've booked a week in spring next year.

Lovely cottage. Kaskane staff really friendly and helpful. Meals at restaurant lively and reasonably priced. Very dog friendly. Garden at cottage ideal for dogs. Live the beach and seafront at skinningrove. A home from home. Will be going back next year.

Cottage is very well kept , decor and cleanliness are great, very spacious, well equipped, lovely garden to rear, super markets two minutes walk, 20 mins walk to Whitby bay, lovely walk on the cuffs above the beach to town centre, definitely go again and recommend

Brilliant base for exploring the area ,can't fault a thing about the cottage it was that good that we were home 3 hours and re booked again for same week next year.

With the beach fairly close and fully up to what we wanted, ready meals service onsite and a cosy cottage to boot - what more could on ask! Unsure if I would class this as a 4 star, but still acceptable standard. A&S

The cottage was as described and was comfortable but it was lacking in the kitchen area, only three teaspoons in a cottage meant for three and only four mugs.

A Pyrex baking dish in the cupboard was covered in baked on fat, saucepans needed to be washed before use. Overall cleanliness could have been better, there were mucky corners on windowsills and in corner by front door. We did have a good week but a a few more mugs and spoons would have been nice and no mucky corners or dirty dishes. We had a Skyes cottage two years ago and it was top class so we did expect it to be better equipped and cleaner. However we will use Skyes again because if people don’t inform you of these things you won’t know and these things could easily be put right

Well laid out warm & cosy cottage with good size lounge.

Small kitchen, but contained everything needed. Good base for visiting area. Dog friendly with enclosed garden and field close by. Lovely quiet sandy beach a short distance away.

Cottage spot on.Restaurant did good value fab meals.Short walk to bay but if you continue towards pier you come across perfect beach through gap in wall.Our dog ruby loved it.Even weather was good! In december!!!!!!!.Perfect for two people.Don't delay,book and enjoy.

BRILLIANT From the moment we arrived, made to feel very welcome by staff when being given keys and info.

Unable to fault cleanliness at all. Only thing was, one person in kitchen, kitchen full! But, hey, who goes on holiday to stay in the kitchen. Village was great, every person we ell we can say is...............BOOK IT........ENJOY IT!!!!!! We will next year!!!!!!

Excellent cottage it was very clean and comfortable we had wine and chocolates also milk coffee and tea bag as well as sugar it was a very good base to do walks from it had a very good bus service with a bus stop right outside the cottage and it was less than 10 minuetes walk to catch another bus so there was need to use your car there was also a very good place to eat adjoin the cottages,

Bishops cottage is a lovely well kept place with everything we needed for a pleasant stay.

Unfortunately Skinningrove was not the place for us. If you are into walking then it would be ideal but when you have mobility problems like my wife it's not. She even had problems getting down to the sea front on her mobility scooter due to uneven roads and steep kerbs.

lounge room light from outside is blocked by outside tree leaving the room dark in the daytime and a little bit strange to be in.

other than that the owners were very helpfull and dealt with any problems immediatly a lovely family who deserve to do well in life though all the hard work they put in.

nice week away nice clean cottage just wish people who take dogs dont go out and leave them in the cottage on their own to cry and howl and whimper in a strange place was nice to find 2 small bottles of wine,chocolates,milk.
