  • "Enjoyed our stay at this cosy cottage."

It was suitably well equipped for a comfortable stay. The bed was comfy and we slept well. Perfect for two, but probably less suitable for four unless you’re eating out.

  • "Very lovely cottage."

The hosts are very welcoming and left some milk and chocolates for us. Really clean and comfortable with great facilities. Staindrop village is a lovely place to stay with some nice walks and an old church to explore. The cafe in the village is very good. Durham county has a lot to offer visitors. Raby Castle within the village is well worth a visit.

  • "Just back from a 4 day break in the lovely village."

The cottage was perfect for us, well equipped, very clean and of a very high standard. Linda and Walter ensured everything was provided including an excellent welcome pack inc lovely chocolates, tea, coffee etc. The supply of fuel etc in the house was good rather than having to look for a local shop. Our dog tilly settled really well and the local over the road was friendly and offered a good range of beers although not serving food at the moment. Great break would definitely recommend. loved Raby Castle well worth a visit.

  • "Very nice cottage, exactly as described and very clean."

Not only supplied tea, coffee and milk, but also lovely chocolates! Also more supplies provided than we expected (such as handwash, loo roll, detergent and softener for washer/dryer). Overall warm and comfortable - didn't need the woodburner! Word of warning though - if you need to shop at the local Spar, take cash - payment machine connection is erratic... Finally, perfect location to visit North York Moors, North Dales and North Pennines - wished we booked two weeks rather than one! Greta and Jim

About the location

STAINDROP

Barnard Castle 5 miles; Durham 20 miles.

The pretty Teesdale village of Staindrop has always been closely associated with the fortunes of nearby Raby Castle and its owners. The Castle (open to the public) is one of the most grand in England. Enlarged and beautified over the centuries, the medieval heart remains and a walled garden and 200 acre deer park add to the splendour. Staindrop has many interesting shops, pubs and cafes set round its long village green. The popular market town of Barnard Castle is 5 miles away, with its castle, the Bowes Museum, plus of course its wide range of shops and tea rooms. Walkers will enjoy the many walks around Teesdale.
