  • "We had a lovely 4 night stop at 5 Oystons Yard with our young children."

The view from the top bedroom is great where you can see the sea, the 199 steps and the abbey. A little welcome pack of tea, coffee and chocolates along with logs for the wood burner was provided which was nice. The cottage is well equipped and the master bedroom was bigger than what we thought it would be. It is in a good position with cafes and shops straight out of the yard. A parking permit was provided and we were able to park very nearby without an issue. We note previous reviews about the steep steps to the top bedroom, however they are carpeted, have railings and we found them easily manageable even for the children. Thank you for a wonderful few days away.

  • "The property is very conveniently located and despite being in the centre of Whitby is very quiet."

Parking in Whitby is an issue but the vouchers that are provided allow free parking on a number of streets and we always managed to find somewhere fairly near by. One suggestion we would like to make is that the lighting in the sitting/dining area could be brighter as we found it difficult for reading in the evenings. Otherwise, the cleanliness was good and the property met our expectations from the description.

Very quiet even with the central location. The property was as described very clean and an imaginative use of a small space. We only went for two nights so decided to leave our car in the main car park at the harbour it was £9 for 24 hours. Would definitely book again.

  • "The property was in the perfect location."

Once we’d parked the car we didn’t need to use it again for the duration of our stay. It’s very small and compact but a perfect base for exploring the town. We didn’t use any of the cooking facilities but I can imagine it would be cramped if you were to cook and eat in the cottage. We were lucky with beautiful weather and explored so much of this cute seaside town. We would absolutely return!

  • "The cottage is perfect by way of location - really is in the middle, but not on the main thoroughfare."

It certainly is quaint and quirky, very well-equipped kitchen and a lovely bathroom. The use of space is quite unbelievably efficient. The beds and furniture are comfortable and everything is very tasteful. There are two minus elements, one is the unavoidable parking challenge, it really is a nightmare (especially when you first arrive and have to find the cottage and need to unload). I think most holiday accommodation in Whitby is the same. The other is that I think it should be emphasized the steepness of the staircase, especially to the upstairs bedroom where it is narrow, too. There are warning signs and handrails, but the climb up is still treacherous ( I am 5 ft 1inch and still cracked my head!). This should be put in the initial information, even with children using the upstairs room (the roof is very low to the beds) I would not like to carry a small child up there, bearing in mind that the toilet is on the first floor. There is no door to the top bedroom (insufficient space) so a possible falling hazard for very small children. We had a lovely time in Whitby but our sleeping arrangements had changed so my 6'1" son and I had to sleep in the top bedroom and my 4 yr old grandson shared the double bed with his mum (he was going to share the top room with me). The view is beautiful! There were games, books, a good TV and a dinky little seating area outside with a useful stable door to the cottage.

Very clean and an easy walk from the front. Really appreciate the inclusion of dog bowls as I had forgotten mine! You do however need to practice patience when it comes to finding overnight/day parking. Not the fault of the owners, but you just need to be prepared for it. The inclusion of the parking scratch cards is appreciated however.

It is well equipped, got everything what we needed, even dog's bowls were ready to use. It is located in the heart of Whitby, very near the grocery shops, pubs, great local bakery round the corner (yes, was there every day at 8.30 when they open), shops andl tourist's attractions. Under floor heating was really nice as was the log burner which we lit each night ..the only downside was no logs so went and bought two bags to cover our stay , but thought it may have had a few in the basket included within the price . Childrens games for the evening were welcomed and we used both . Very clear instructions in welcome pack re parking and zones etc , however we did incur a ticket ! Workmen very loud wheelbarrows up and down all day. • "We had a fantastic stay here, in Oystons Yard."

On arrival the cottage was warm and cozy, and very clean. A basket of wood and firelighters for the burner. Fresh milk in the fridge. Towels laid out on the beds. The instructions to find the yard are not hard to follow, but I'll make a note here that the bakery that the gate is next to is now called Lainey's Tea Room, not Abigail's (if you're looking on Google Maps, etc.). It's on Flowergate, if you want to be precise :) The yard itself is very quiet and tucked away at the back of the buildings, but you're right in the center of Whitby. Superbly located for pretty much everything. Shops and supermarkets in easy reach, and a good, locals pub over the road. The cottage is well appointed with central heating as well as the wood burner, but we hardly had the heating on unless we were having showers, etc. It was so warm and snug most of the time. And this was February, too! There's plenty of facilities for cooking, and even a slow-cooker. My one tiny half-critisism is the lack of an ice-box or freezer compartment in the fridge. It wasn't a big deal for us, really. We just put our bottles of gin and tonic water in the fridge (I know, first world problems, right?! LOL). The TV is a smart one, so we could log into Netflix or BBC IPlayer, etc. and there's a USB attachment for it which I'm assuming will play files from a pen-drive but I didn't try it. The beds were lovely and comfy, and the shower was great. Parking is, as you can imagine for the center of Whitby, is a fun game to play. There spaces on Flowergate but they are only 1 hour (with a parking disk). We left our car two streets away and used the 'scratch cards' provided for us at the cottage (another thankyou for those!!). It's a complicated affair if you're new to it, but didn't take us long to work it out. We managed to get a space on Flowergate for loading and unloading our gear. There's a parking disk provided also by the owners and if you need another one (as we did, due to the last people not leaving it behind) they are free from the Poundland down the road. Here's a handy guide that explains everything... https://www.thewhitbyguide.co.uk/parking-in-whitby/ Basically, if you have a scratch card you can park for up to 2 days in the Blue or Orange areas (the sign will have a W on it) There's not really much more to say. I'd take care if you have trouble with steep stairs. Getting up and down to the upper floor might be difficult. All in all, perfect. Would definitely stay there again.
