The property

Devonshire House sits in the heart of Settle, North Yorkshire, offering an appealing base for families or friends eager to explore the dramatic scenery, timeless villages, and famed walking routes of the Yorkshire Dales.

Sleeping six guests across four bedrooms, the property pairs its traditional stone-built character with thoughtful modern touches, creating a home that feels rooted in the landscape yet ready for easy holiday living.

The standout feature of the house is the spacious wooden farmhouse kitchen, where cooking and conversation naturally come together.

With an electric oven, dishwasher, and a central kitchen island complete with breakfast stools, it’s a room designed for morning coffee rituals, shared meal preparation, and relaxed gatherings.

A small dining table offers a spot for casual bites before heading out to explore the Dales.

The living room provides a welcoming setting to settle in after a day outdoors, with an electric wood burner bringing a gentle glow with a three seater sofa, a two seater sofa and a chair offering plenty of space for film nights, reading, or simply recounting the day’s adventures.

Upstairs, two double bedrooms and two singles create a versatile layout for mixed groups or families.

The principal double features its own en-suite shower room with a walk-in shower, while the remaining rooms are served by a main bathroom complete with a shower.

Each bedroom carries its own character, shaped by the building’s heritage and peaceful location.

Outside, off-road parking makes arrivals simple, and the property’s pet-friendly approach ensures four-legged explorers can join the adventure.

Settle places everything within easy reach, from independent shops and cafés to the iconic Settle, Carlisle railway, one of the most scenic rail journeys in the UK.

Nearby, tranquil walks await around a nearby lake, while the surrounding Dales offer endless opportunities for discovery.

Malham is a highlight, home to Malham Cove’s towering amphitheatre of limestone, the woodland beauty of Janet’s Foss, and the dramatic forces of nature on display at Gordale Scar.

In Clapham, you’ll find Ingleborough Cave, the leafy trails of the Ingleborough Estate, and the challenging ascent to the summit itself, rewarded by sweeping views across the national park.

Blending heritage, space, and a gateway location to some of Yorkshire’s most celebrated landscapes, Devonshire House provides a memorable setting for a Dales escape at any time of year.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £150.

SETTLE

Malham 6 miles; Skipton 17 miles; Kendal 25 miles.

The bustling market town of Settle lies at the south west rim of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, nestled beside the largest outcrop of limestone in Britain - a region of scars, cliffs, caves and potholes - amongst some of the most picturesque scenery in North Yorkshire. Tuesday is market day in Settle, when the square is filled with stalls offering a wide variety of crafts and goods. The market place is surrounded by local businesses, the centre being dominated by The Shambles, an historic three storey building with shops on two levels and houses above, and the Town Hall. There is a good selection of restaurants and pubs and a public swimming pool. The Victoria Hall has entertainment and other activities such as folk nights throughout the year. The famous Settle-Carlisle Railway crosses some of the most beautiful and inspiring upland scenery in the country. Natural attractions such as Malham Cove and Gordale Scar are within easy reach, as are the nearby Dales towns of Skipton and Malham. Settle is in the midst of excellent walking country and is a good base for touring the Dales, the Lake District and the Forest of Bowland.
