  • "Had a lovely stay for Whitby Goth weekend."

Cosy cottage with everything you need, even some games to play. Nice quiet location and friendly neighbour with the fish!

  • "We were very disappointed with our recent stay at this accommodation from Monday to Thursday."

During our visit, the fire alarm system malfunctioned and went off intermittently. This happened repeatedly, including whenever we attempted to use the shower, which made it effectively unusable and prevented normal use of the facilities. The frequent alarms caused ongoing disturbance throughout our stay, meaning we were unable to rest properly or enjoy the accommodation. Overall, this was a significant issue and felt like a serious safety concern, falling well below what we would expect from a holiday property. We hope this issue is addressed to prevent future guests from experiencing the same problems.

Guests staying at our property are a priority. In November 2025, additional hard‑wired smoke alarms were installed throughout the property to ensure full compliance with current legislation. No issues were reported to Yorkshire Coastal Cottages during your stay, despite their staffed office being located in town. Once we were made aware of the alarm sounding, an electrician attended promptly. It was identified that the shower had been used with the bathroom door open and window closed, causing steam to activate and damage the alarm. This was replaced at our expense immediately after your departure. While one small dog is permitted, this must be declared at booking and dogs must not be left unattended. A dog was not declared on your booking, was reportedly left alone, causing disturbance, and appears to have been allowed on the bed, leaving dog hair on the bedding. We take pride in maintaining high standards for our guests, as reflected in our other reviews Property Owner

  • "Fabulous stay."

So quaint and so clean. Only negative was the shower not very powerful but couldn't fault anything else.

  • "We have had such a lovely stay!"

A lovely cottage with everything you need. We have enjoyed trips to Whitby, Robinhood's Bay and a steam train ride to Pickering from Goathland. We would definitely like to come back! Thank you.

  • "We had a four night stay here in February half term and had a fantastic time."

The cottage was spotlessly clean on arrival, with a lovely little welcome pack. The owners have provided everything you could possibly need and gone the extra mile with some extra touches like face flannels and toiletries as well - we felt really welcome here. The property is outside of the main tourist area, in a row of houses that is a mixture of residential properties and holiday homes. The neighbours were all very friendly and welcoming. There is a supermarket nearby. It took us about 15 minutes to walk to the West Cliff with two children, so probably quicker for those without, then it’s a lovely walk along the sea front and into the main town. We hardly used the car. Whitby is beautiful, similar to York but by the sea, and Robin Hoods Bay is a short drive away and really lovely. Would recommend this cottage as a reasonably priced, warm and welcoming place to stay in easy reach of all the attractions.

Thank you so much for your fantastic review. We are really pleased you enjoyed your stay. We have just started holiday letting. Having stayed in cottages ourselves when our children were younger we were keen to create a good experience for our guests. Your positive feedback is therefore really appreciated. Thank you. • "Home from home, warm cosy welcoming cottage - provides everything and more."

Perfect base to explore the area - only 15 minutes walk into town. Love this area and visit often- will definitely stay here again. Recommend the drive to Goathland and a walk around the waterfall and Robin Hoods Bay is just quaint and the walk to Boggle Hole is a must.
