  • "The couch was different from the one in the picture and not as comfy."

The mattress slopped to the right so could be doing with getting a new one. The cottage was in a perfect location and was very spacious with everything that you could want for a lovely getaway. The cottage was very clean and i loved that there was no neighbours i would definitely go back and the owner was very nice. My dog loved it also. We did love our stay there.

  • "A warm welcome awaits at Star Croft."

Friendly, helpful host, who gave advice on lovely walks in the area. The cottage is comfortable & cosy, with everything you need. Extremely peaceful location, with plenty room for our dogs to play. Perfect for us. Restful, relaxing & quiet, just what we were looking for.

  • "We had a lovely week away visiting family in Thurso."

Star Croft was what we needed. There is an almost mile long rough track up to the cottage but most vehicles would be fine traversing it if they do so at a low speed. We loved how isolated the property was...so peaceful. Even saw the Northern Lights. The sofas are a little low in the living room for someone with arthritis but I sat on a couple of cushions that rectified that. The beds were really comfy and there's a brilliant TV for the evenings. We will definitely use here again. Liz was so friendly and helpful. Thanks!!

  • "The property was located along a farm track (about a quarter of a mile) with a raised bank in the middle."

We found it difficult in our sports car to navigate the track without causing damage to the underside of the car. We reported this to the owner who arranged for the grass to be cut, however, this wasn't the issue. We think that it should be stated on the website that there is difficulty in accessing the cottage unless you have a 4x4 or car with high ground clearance. We were not able to go out after dark or come back after dark as it would have been impossible to navigate the track. The cottage was not clean (dead flies and insects on the windowsills, mould around the window/door frames, shower head was dirty as was the bath). Most of the window seals had failed so the windows were cloudy and on the first night there was a gale blowing through the bedroom window surround seal which had failed. The toilet seat was ill fitting and loose and the flush was ineffective. We couldn't sit outside as the garden was completely overgrown. Only one of the three wall lights worked. The kitchen hot tap dripped continually. We would definitely not recommend Sykes to anyone as we felt the listing was inaccurate and we would not have booked this had we known in advance about the track and other issues. We have used Holiday Cottages in the past who have been excellent and the properties were as described with no issues. Some were less expensive than this one and some more, it isn't a question of price it's a question of quality and standards.
