  • "We stayed at Shepherds House for a family get together and it was the perfect cottage for that."

Shepherds House was comfortable and very well equipped - the pool table was a real bonus and the garden was fab, perfect for our dogs. The location was great, set down a quiet country lane but within easy reach of the village of Lowick, which had a lovely pub and well stocked village shop. We would definitely book Shepherds House again!

  • "Delightful stay at this large property, the amount of space is amazing and as a family group we liked the amount of seating and bedroom layout."

One of the bedrooms (has an ensuite) is within the original house and has its own staircase to it making it ideal for a multi generational holiday. Two other bedrooms also have ensuites and the bathroom is really near to the one without an ensuite. The property has everything needed with plenty of dishes, pans etc. Very rural location so its quiet with lots of outside space. Takes about 10 minutes to get to the A1 for trips out. We used the postcode to locate the property and this got us very near to the entrance gate, it's just a short drive further down the narrow road to the actual house so be sure to proceed further. The owner provided what three words but the phone signal is bad so this wasn't reliable when first locating the house. In summary a large house with all you'd need.

The owner was lovely to deal with too. The views from the living area are amazing, what a treat to come down to in the morning! The pool table was a big hit with everyone and the dogs loved the large enclosed garden. My only suggestion would be to maybe have a small clothes line/rotary outside for drying items not suited for the dryer. All in all, would highly recommend.

This is a perfect property for a family holiday, very well equipped and much appreciated by a mixed age group. Ideally situated to reach major attractions and beaches and enjoys very good local hostelries and eating establishments. The food at the local shop in Lowick is superb and home made - well worth a visit. The Black Bull is great pub which takes dogs in the bar and provides excellent food. We hope to return next year as there is still plenty to see and do in the area.

The owners have created an amazing holiday home. The pool table was a big hit for the whole family and there were loads of pots, pans and cutlery which is often in short supply in holiday lets. The only feedback we would give is that soap, bin liners and toilet rolls were in short supply (not all bathrooms had soap provided) and given the standard of accommodation and the price paid, we would have expected that finer details like this would have been in place. Saying that, the owners were super helpful and did bring down extras. Also the en suite bathrooms would definitely benefit from a shelf in the shower for shampoo etc and somewhere to store toiletries. This would help older and less able visitors who can't bend to get their shampoo.

  • "What an incredible cottage!"

The best I have ever visited. I cannot recommend this property enough for a large family or 2 families. There's so much space, everything is so well equipped. The beds are so comfy, I never wanted to leave. The living room is fab, lots of seating, with the opening doors, plus we had 30 degree sunny weather so these stayed open all the time. It has an amazing wall map which kept us entertained in the evening. It's perfect for dogs and children, the garden felt safe and enclosed. For children (and adults) it also had Netflix, plus all the usual TV essentials, good Wifi. The pool table was loved. There's a lot of farm animals close to the cottage, which we thought was great! I miss waking up to mooing cows. The surrounding area has so much to do. The local corner shop in Lowick was incredible for cakes and baked goods. The Lowick pubs were also great and a 20 minute walk from the cottage. The Holy Island is only a 15 min drive away, that's well worth a visit. Bamburgh / Bamburgh castle is also only 15 min drive away. It has breath taking views and beaches. We visited Berwick upon Tweed, Paxton House, Ford & Etal - all great tourist locations. Nowhere was over crowded, it was a very peaceful part of the country to visit. We'll definitely be back very soon. :) 10/10

The large rear enclosed garden was brilliant for the dogs to run around freely- under supervision—and the children to play safely.Loved the peaceful situation with just the animals for company. Nit picking—we would have liked a couple of smaller saucepans for individual breakfasts; some shelving in the en-suites/ bathroom, and a larger dustbin. • "Overall we had a very enjoyable stay and the house was perfectly suitable for the nature of our group."

Any issues were relatively minor and in the main related to the bathrooms & showers. All of us made reference to the fact that there was no shelf or rack within the shower to put toiletries. As a result the only option was to put gels and shampoo on the shower floor. With all of us in or around our mid 60's at best and some with mobility issues this was not an ideal situation and given that the provision of something to resolve the problem seems so easy, we would recommend that the owner look in to this. It would certainly have improved our experience of the facility, The same issue applies to the bathroom itself where there is nowhere to put toiletries. Many of us found placement of the mirrors in the bathrooms to be a bit on the high side. Finally, the check in / check out times are very restrictive even though we appreciate the effect that Covid has had on the holiday cottage industry but it does feel as though we have lost almost a day of our stay in the house as they are currently set.

Northumberland is beautiful and we visited many castles, beaches and villages, We went across the Scottish Borders a couple of times and even walked across the sands to Holy Island when the tide was out. There was also a large-scale map of the area on the living room wall (useful for positioning ourselves in the area), a warm utility room (great for drying out boots at the end of each long day of walking), warm rooms, hot showers and comfortable bedrooms. Very comfortable with new fixtures and fittings including a pool table. Suggested upgrade might include more coat hooks(in bedrooms), and storage cabinets in the large bathroom. Lacked cleaning items, cloths and products so not easy to leave in a pristine state which we normally try to do. Broom but no dustpan for example though there was a hoover. Bit of a rush to be out by 9am. I know COVID-19 is the suggested reason but that leaves 8 hours to turn the house round for next guests. Can’t quite believe this is necessary. Makes it slightly inconvenient. Don’t want to be too critical as we all had a great time. Thanks.
