Hazel Cottage - Fold Yards

We had a very pleasant week at Hazel Cottage and appreciated the welcome pack.

It was very clean and the beds were comfortable. The only disappointment was that there were internal steps leading to the main bedroom and the downstairs shower room. These would not be a problem for most people but because my wife has mobility problems she stumbled on them. The steps should have been mentioned in the Sykes description.

This property exceeded all our expectations.

Beautiful and carefully thought out, layout. Spotlessly clean and extremely well equipped. We came with three young children and they had so much fun, exploring the surroundings and seeing the cattle, especially Equity, the bull! I would definitely return and the layout of the properties would work for groups of people and families. Five stars, all around.

A wonderful property, in a great location.

Hazel Cottage is an old stone farmhouse that has been beautifully renovated, to a very high standard. The rooms are huge, with vaulted ceilings creating a wonderful set of spaces - and thanks to the stone, the property was cool despite being 35 degrees outside! Two large double rooms on the ground floor, sharing a jack and Jill bathroom, with a further double on the upper floor, with a large ensuite. The property sits on an active beef farm, but despite crazy July temperatures we were not aware of any 'cow smells'. However, it was a daily joy to go to see the cows and bulls, along with a few calves. Add to that, the property is in a fabulous location for touring the Derbyshire Peaks - along with the absolute must visit location of Chatsworth House. Sally and David are wonderful hosts, and have created a great retreat. Highly recommended.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hazel Cottage which has been wonderfully renovated retaining a farm/ industrial feel and natural furnishings.

The ground floor area was ideal for my mother with a walker, just a couple of steps but were manageable. Superb, quiet location and an ideal base for exploring. David was very helpful on arrival. We are all thinking of coming again. Thank you.

Absolutely glorious accommodation!

Very spacious, comfortable rooms in an idyllic countryside location, with friendly cows for neighbours. Sally is a very friendly host, highly recommended this beautiful property!

We had the most wonderful stay.

The accommodation was absolutely perfect - spotless, beautifully clean, and smelt amazing from the moment we arrived. It had everything we needed and felt so comfortable and welcoming throughout our stay. We especially loved seeing the cows and enjoying the lovely walks nearby. Such a peaceful and relaxing place to stay. We would absolutely love to come back again in the future!

A perfect place to stay with friends and family.

The accommodation is beautifully designed and spotlessly clean. Underfloor heating, a log burner, a great area to socialise and relax. Folds Yard is in a great location to explore, local hikes, trips to Matlock, Belper, Cromford etc.

We stayed at Hazel Cottage for five nights and it accommodated our group of five adults comfortably.

It is a lovely cottage in a convenient location for exploring Derbyshire. The accommodation was cosy and comfortable and easy to live in. Bedrooms, shower rooms and living area were spacious and easy to organise. The log fire was easy to use and was invaluable during the cold weather.The kitchen was well equipped but only has a small fridge and freezer - useful to know if you are planning to do a lot of self catering. However lots of additional storage space made organising our stay easy. The staff that we encountered could not have been more helpful.

A beautiful cottage within a gorgeous setting and ideal for visiting the local tourist attractions.

Accomodation was very comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay.

Plenty of space for everyone with very large open plan lounge, kitchen diner. Would suggest listing is updated as there were hairdryers in all bedrooms and a washing machine which was handy. Overall would recommend as a great base for visiting the local area

We arrived to find beautifully warm, clean and spacious accommodation.

It was well decorated in a rustic style, in keeping with its historical roots. Appliances, though, were modern and state of the art, and underfloor heating was a real bonus. Everything felt really comfortable and homely, linens and towels were good quality. Contrary to a previous review, there were 2 good hairdryers provided. There was a good supply of cooking equipment, pots and cutlery. The only shortage was jugs and Pyrex for the microwave; but I’m being picky. The location was ideal with plenty of places of interest within an easy drive. We had a great time with our daughter and two grandchildren. Would highly recommend this property, and other properties on the complex.

The property was clean, spacious and stocked with everything we needed for our week long holiday.

There was ample parking for our two vehicles and a rear courtyard was also available for sitting outdoors. My only observation was that there was sometimes noise from the adjoining property most probably due to the thickness of walls / age of property however this would not prevent us from visiting again.

The décor is finished to an excellent standard, and the rooms and bathrooms are spacious. The only thing missing was a hairdryer. The walls are a little thin, so we could hear the neighbours, but it didn’t affect the enjoyment of our stay.

Delightfully situated in a lush part of the UK. David & Sally such helpful hosts on a full working farm. Great to be able to see the animals and walk round such lovely countryside. Close to amenities for all ages. Would highly recommend and intend to return. Thank you David & Sally

A delightful place to stay.

Peaceful, airy and well equipped. The location is great and loved exploring the Peak District. Very picturesque. A great place for a sister’s reunion and an 80th Birthday celebration. Throwing recommend it. Anne and Sarah.

We stayed at Hazel Cottage to celebrate my sisters 50th Birthday we had a fantastic time made even more special by the accommodation we stayed in the attention to detail is second to none we will definitely be returning.

An excellent stay!

Beautiful cottage, spotlessly clean, comfy beds and well equipped. Loved the welcome package with tea, coffee, milk and biscuits. A perfect long weekend.

A stunning property with a great location also.

We had a great time exploring the local area, Sally popped by to check we were ok after checking in. Would highly recommend fold yards, we will certainly be returning again.

We had a lovely weekend stay at Hazel Cottage, with our daughter and family, age range 60 to 6 months.

The property was clean and renovated to a high standard. The beds were comfy and the bathrooms large and well equipped. We had a wet and blustery stay but we were warm and cosy even without the log burner, which had plenty of available wood. The facilities were great, we cooked a Sunday lunch and had everything we needed. We didn't venture far this time but the cottage is well located for visiting many places within the Peak District. Lovely welcome package and Sally and David were very welcoming and helpful. My only regret is only booking for the weekend!!

We had a really great stay at Hazel Cottage - the buildings are lovely and the conversion done is beautiful.

There were only a few minor improvements/adjustments we thought of - as we were a party of 6 adults and a baby, we did find the sofa not really big enough to sit us all in an evening when we wanted to sit in front of the gorgeous log burner and catch up with each other. We also found the water pressure in both the showers was very low. Other than this, everything was there when we looked for it when cooking, the underfloor heating was nice and toasty, no problems with parking and the location was good for exploring around the area.

Two minor points Shower pressure was barely a trickle and as it was warm during our stay a freezer compartment in the fridge would have been a bonus.

Such a beautiful accommodation, very spacious, clean and kitted out with everything you need.

The flowers and welcome pack were welcomed. Very quiet surrounds and the owners were very nice. Visiting from Australia we found the narrow lanes amusing to us but the English drivers were very courteous. Would stay again and would recommend.

We had a lovely time at Hazel Cottage.

It has been beautifully renovated and we really appreciated how well designed and equipped it was. It worked really well for our family of six. The only slight negative was the single track roads surrounding the property. We found arriving and leaving quite stressful in our 7 seater hire car. We visited in August but this would put me off returning during the Winter. Otherwise, Folds Yard is a beautiful place for a family holiday.

We had an amazing few days.

The apartment was spacious,clean and comfortable. Ideal place to explore from. Tranquil surroundings so lovely and peaceful. No issues at all and as it is a new venture we wish you both all the best and we will def be returning. Many thanks to you both for allowing us to see the new calves and exploring the farm.

What a lovely property!

Hazel Cottage is one of the larger properties in this complex of 8 farm building conversions. The property, along with the others, are all new this season and we were very pleased with the facilities on offer. Sally was a lovely host and very attentive. All round, a very nice property to stay in. With the property being on a working farm, it was nice to hear the cows in the nearby fields and be able to feed them grass. The cottage was a great base for visiting Matlock, Heights of Abraham, Denby Pottery Store, Wirksworth, Derbyshire Dales, etc. We would recommend a visit to White Peak Distillery and eating at La Mistral in Wirksworth for a high quality French meal.
