The Cow Shed

The Cow Shed is a small property, perhaps smaller than we imagined (though in fairness the photos are not misleading and probably the effect is the same as seen on estate agent websites, where camera angle slightly distorts image width in property photos).

But it was comfortable and clean, and we enjoyed sitting outside enjoying the lovely local views when the weather allowed. The track to the property (maybe half a mile) is in fairly poor condition and will probably require attention in the next couple of years, but keeping speed right down avoided any damage to tyres or suspension. (Some of the roads in the immediate vicinity are also in truly shocking condition, though clearly that is the council's responsibility, not the property owner's.) There are some nice walks in the immediate area and the village is quite well provided for with pubs and shops - our favourite was the Youth Hostel cafe, which is only open Thursday - Sunday but offered really good breakfasts. Tony, the owner of the Cow Shed, was friendly and approachable - he sorted out a hot water problem one day quickly and efficiently. Overall, this is a pleasant - if compact - holiday property in a beautiful part of Derbyshire, and we would be happy to recommend it on the basis of our experience.

A little hidden gem.

This cottage has the most amazing views; to get to it via the track is a little hairy with cows and a small stream, but well worth the peace and quiet. The cottage is a cosy little space, perfect for two. We were welcomed with a bottle of wine and the cutest vase of bluebells. The shower room was clean and modern and the kitchenette was great. I brought my slow cooker to cook with so we had something warm to eat after a day of walking. The garden area at the back has the spectacular views of the rolling hillsides and the perfect place to relax in the hot tub which was a real treat. Its a great spot for circular walks around the area and not far from Chatsworth House. Also highly recommend Peak Feast in the village the Homity Pies are delicious. Overall a perfect stay. We had a lovely stay in the Cow Shed.

A little haven away from home. The hot tub was amazing. Would recommend an air fryer is provided as would make cooking so easy. The welcome gifts were a lovely surprise. We walked into the village and the residents so friendly.

It was cosy, peaceful and had the most fabulous views. The property is well situated for the local area and its sights. Wow!

Beautiful cottage with stunning views. When we arrived it was warm and cosy, and it stayed that way. There were fresh flowers, a bottle of wine, sweets and milk, tea and coffee waiting for us. The cottage was spotless and had everything we needed. The hot tub is amazing, so relaxing after a day exploring. The Cow Shed is in an ideal position to explore Bakewell, Chatsworth House and Gardens, Matlock Bath and many more beautiful areas of the Peak District. The access road is an adventure in itself, running right next to the river and past grazing cows. You just need to drive really carefully. Tony and Belinda are amazing hosts, the communication before, during and after was great. Would highly recommend.

We stayed in the cow shed, it was super cosy and relaxing, we had the most perfect time.

Location was fantastic, close to Bakewell, Matlock and many hiking sight seeing spots. The rooms were spotless, fully equipped kitchen. The hot tub was very relaxing with a nice view. Definitely recommend if you need a peaceful get away! We will definitely visit again soon!

The Cow Shed is beautiful and cosy in a perfect setting.

However, how we ‘got here’ was an unpleasant experience with owners who would NOT budge due to a tragedy we faced, but some 18+ months we made it! It woulobeen a better experience without the hurt and anger we felt about it all. There are a few minor mentions that we found ‘difficult/challenging’, esp as a disabled with spinal fusion and a neck that can’t turn left, so getting to the loo roll was almost impossible! If the loo roll holder was moved to where the hand towel holder is and the hand towel holder to the other side where there are 2 dark spots on the tile, it would make. Please, this is all just a suggestion. Main causes of concern: The bed defo needs a new mattress (It might just be me, but I struggled to get up and walk! Even if you put a Dormeo mattress on top, it would be most helpful). The second is the road by the stream around the rock face, this could’ve easily solved if someone could fix 2 posts where the biggest holes are and backfill them. This will protect the embankment and bible dangers of cars maybe getting stuck there. On a positive note however, we ‘issued’ the eggs as per previous comments, but the small touches of Prosecco man’s chocolates and tea and coffee as well as milk helped a lot, so thank you. We would recommend this to friends and family and if we come again we hope to give a more positive review. R & S W

Lovely, comfortable, clean cottage, fabulous views and peaceful location.

The single track to access the property is very picturesque being about a mile long. The track was passable even during heavy rain and slight flooding over the track from the beck, and after dark. It’s helpful to have two people in a vehicle to hold the gates open as you drive through as they do not stay open if not held. The owners were lovely and very helpful and the hot tub, barbecue, and summer house a real bonus. Would highly recommend.

This an absolutely beautiful, cozy place to stay!

Everything was perfect, the drive in past the stream & the cows, the view, hot tub. Everything was clean and tidy, with plenty of storage! Generally everything was well thought about, which made staying here an absolute pleasure!

Fantastic little place to stay sleeps 2 in double bed and comes with hot tube with fabulous views.

Very helpful and friendly owners that live next door and on hand if you needed anything. Nice addition was the little welcome package.we also hired the cow barn next door that sleeps 8 so is great for a big family gathering .great walks from the house or a short walk into town with streams ,pubs,village shops,vegan cafe and bakery cafe,park .overall a wonderful stay.

I'm afraid we had to leave on 1st day with a family matter.

.....if I hadn't had to go home We would of let anyway(sorry not for us) The Cow Shed was spotlessly clean. If all you want is a bed to sleep in and out all day ok.

My partner and I visited the Peak District as it holds a special place for me.

The Cow Shed was a lovely little secluded property off the beaten track, but close enough to walk to local amenities. The property was cosy and clean with the added delight of a hot tub after a long days hiking! I would definitely recommend it! Although I didn’t get to meet the owners properly they were helpful and there if needed!! Will definitely be back!

Wonderful property, and the views are amazing.

The cow shed, hot tub itself was very clean, comfortable for our use. The cover for the hot tub we working say was on the wrong side as blocked our view from the fields. The weather was OK but meant we couldn't use the bbq (we had a look and does need a clean from previous users). The only other recommendation would be the state of the road leading to the shed had started to erode near the river ( I know much may not be able to be done) but we had a mg suv and were nervous everytime we passed it that we may fall in a note may be needed when hiring out the property about the Recommended size of car.

We a fantastic and relaxing stay at Cow Shed during the long Easter weekend.

The cottage was clean, comfortable and perfect for a couple with the required amenities. No doubt the hot tub and the adjoining heated hut is the highlight. After walking/hiking all day, the hot tub is so so relaxing and romantic. Tony and Belinda are great hosts and communication with them was excellent. We reached quite late in the night but they had kept the cottage heating on. Loved the location of the cottage. It’s really peaceful and quiet out there. Youlgreave is a beautiful little village with some nice walks around.

The property was very clean and cosy, the owners had put little arrival treats out too. We loved the rural location and the views whilst in the hot tub were amazing. Even though it is rural the location is perfect for visiting lots of the Peak District. We would definitely go back.

It has gorgeous views of the countryside, which you can enjoy from a lovely hot tub. The owners are very helpful and added some really special, romantic touches (including heart crockery, sweets and mini prosecco on arrival, and cute Cow Shed printed towels - to name a few!). It's very cosy and very clean - I really recommend for a getaway with your partner!

Was such a beautiful place to stay, the scenery was gorgeous even though the weather wasn’t on our side half of the time.

Had games for the rainy days and lovely walks nearby for the sunny ones!

The hot tub was overlooked by the main property and adjacent holiday cottage.

We really enjoy staying at locations with a hot tub but privacy is of utmost importance. The fences were lattice so we were completely viewable and the two small side windows and glass conservatory from the main house compounded this situation even more so. It made us feel very self conscious and vulnerable. This detail may prevent us from returning. This irritation has been something we have already discussed with family and friends who have asked us about our stay. We believe with adequate screening this could be easily remedied.

What a hidden gem of find!

We came here in May and were very very lucky to have sun all weekend however, regardless of weather this place would be a cosy retreat all year round. Beautiful scenery, wow factor as soon as you arrive. Absolutely loved sitting in the hot tub admiring the view. Cosy, quiet little annex which was very clean and had adequate faculties for a weekend break. Edition of some Prosecco, chocolate and milk was also very kind. The garden space is private with plenty of room to relax outside. Car parking space as well. Owners were very welcoming upon arrival and made effort to ensure we knew where we were going upon arrival which reduced stress. Will definitely be returning and recommending to friends and family.

Lovely rural location. Welcome gifts. Clean and comfortable. Local information provided saved us time looking around. Hot tub was a real draw for us too.

A very lovely place and location, bit tricky to find the entrance especially in the dark, maybe post what3words as well.

Under floor heating could have benefitted from turning up earlier before our arrival. Hot tub and facilities all great.

Beautiful views, great location ,great hosts. Accommodation excellent well equipped and very comfortable and clean. We will definitely be booking again.

We had a lovely few days, great little place with excellent facilities.

The cottage has been renovated to a high standard with high quality fixtures and fittings. Very eco friendly with ground pump and low energy lights throughout. Great views from the garden and a lot of pleasant walks around the area.

Beautiful little cottage in an idyllic setting.

Immaculately clean and well stocked, So many little touches that made the weekend really special, fresh eggs and milk, little bottles of Prosecco and chocolates, spare towels for the hot tub and more! The weather was hot so we didn’t use the hot tub much, we did go in it one evening and have to say that it was pristinely clean. The cottage itself was also spotless, and although compact, had everything we needed and more! We had a walk to the village centre on the Saturday before temperatures were too hot and had a cheeky pint in a couple of the pubs, which were both really friendly and a nice selection of drinks. Overall a wonderful weekend and I cannot wait to come back!

Tony was very welcoming and the Cow Shed was very clean, comfortable and is in a superb location for Ealing, views and peace and quiet.

The welcoming touches were greatly appreciated from the Proseeco, jar of sweets, eggs, milk and other goodies. We needed a parasol and within one day Tony had sourced one and arranged delivery for us. We were recommended by our relatives and would have no hesitation in recommending the holiday Cow Shed to others seeking to stay in one of the most beautiful parts of England.

Fabulous stay and wonderful property.

The views are stunning and it is quiet very comfortable. Well located about 20 min walk into Youlgrave with pubs and shops. My only slight feedback is it would have been helpful for us to be given the alternative route in to overcome the pot holes with rain but as soon as we asked the owner was incredibly helpful. Definitely 5/5 property.

My wife and I stayed for a x2 night stay at this lovely retreat.

Although we anticipated the great views and relaxation, we were pleasantly surprised at the gorgeous location. We arrived quite late at night. However, our hosts were available to guide us to the cottage. Although, I must say the directions provided were quite good. The cottage was very clean, modern and really nicely furnished. Even though we visited during winter, the cottage was kept warm for us throughout our stay. The bed was nice and comfortable and we had all the amenities we needed. The views from the hot tub are superb and the lighting was great for a romantic dip in the hot tub. We felt so relaxed whilst looking out at the splendid views. Our hosts were very attentive and provided fresh milk, eggs, tea bags etc. They also provided festive sweets and two small bottles of Prosecco (although we do not drink alcohol) which was a very nice touch. We would highly recommend this lovely retreat to all.

Absolutely loved my time here with my partner.

It is an extremely cute and cosy cottage, a perfect getaway for a couple! The cottage is extremely clean and we had fresh milk, eggs, tea bags, coffee, sachets of sugar, biscuits and even two small bottles of Prosecco all ready and waiting for us which was a very nice added touch. And the hot tub was amazing! It is in a very remote location, so you really can get away from troubles while you’re here. Bakewell is a 15 minute drive away so you are still local to shops etc. I definitely will be booking again and would highly recommend!

The accommodation is in a gorgeous setting and the added extras rises fizz and treats were amazing. The fishing pond round the corner went really well for my partner and the jacuzzi was a hit with myself. Bakewell, matlock and Buxton on the door step and the scenery and walks justvon the doorstep

The holiday was amazing, the owners of the barns are so lovely and friendly.

The area was a great place to stay a lot of things to do and a lot of places to eat. We had an amazing time and the barn we stayed in was perfect with a hot tub. We loved this place and will definitely be back again.

We were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and wanted something special and the Cow She was ideal.

Theres quite a long drive/walk to the Cow Shed on a single track road! Very clean compact living space perfect for two people. Summer house and hot tub were great with fantastic views. We enjoyed the walks around Youlsgreave. Would definitely recommend.

Very friendly welcome on arrival.

Fresh flowers, sweets, milk & eggs, and Prosecco we’re all nice additional treats. Small studio type accommodation expected as described but garden, summer house & hot tub made us feel we had ample space. Lovely walks and wildlife on doorstep. Access lane narrow when avoiding stream, walkers & a few cows with new calves, but added to the adventure! Great for visiting Bakewell, Buxton & Chatsworth, or for a walking holiday.

Cooking facilities are very basic so be prepared to eat out - there are plenty of local options. Also the hot tub was great after a long walk but be aware if you're noise sensitive that the hum is 24/7. The owners are very friendly and welcoming.

Lovely studio cottage.

Cosy and well equipped. Hot tub was fantastic and so was the outside seating with lovely views to enjoy. The owners are on site and are very helpful and nice people who will do all they can to ensure your stay is enjoyable. The cottage is accessed by a long private track and there are plenty of lovely walks and pubs nearby. The Tissington, Monsal and High Peak Trails are not too far away to either walk or cycle and we also enjoyed visiting Carsington Water and Ladybower Reservoir. We can't wait to return.

Lovely little gem of a place.

Quiet, but central for some good walking/cycling. Lovely good quality bedding and towels, books to borrow if you just want to kick back and relax in the summer house, maps to borrow if you haven’t got your own. We cooked on BBQ as weather great, but used the easy to use induction hob to cook the free range eggs In the welcome basket. The Hot tub a real bonus for those walkers legs, the view over the dales was obscured slightly by the hot tub lid, but still a real treat! The pubs in Youlgreave stop serving food at 8pm, remember to book in advance to eat. Thanks Tony and Belinda we loved the Cow Shed, it’s beautifully done, we had a lovely time and will return!

Lovely little hideaway for a chilled weekend.

Just need to get correct pans for hob. We only had on pan to cook breakfast and was promised to get another. Couldn’t use the dryer to dry towels as there were others left in all weekend so had to use wet towels al the time. Other than that it was a lovely place.

The accommodation is clean and tidy with everything you need. The little touches such as eggs, flowers and Prosecco made the welcome even better. Make sure you follow the syke and Tony and Belindas instructions for navigating to the property, not your sat nav with a post code. This was our fault and ended up somewhere completely different. Would thoroughly recommend.

It was all we needed, comfy bed to stay in and a hot tub looking over amazing views! What would have made the stay even more perfect would have been if robes were provided for the small walk from the door to the hot tub!!

Wonderful place to get away for a few days.

Hot tub was wonderful, scenery was great, and some good walking in bakewell made it a great weekend away. Would highly advise the bakewell pudding if you venture into the town!

Really beautiful and remote location, only issues were the hot tub isn’t very private with it being overlooked by the house and the owner was cleaning the conservatory at night when we were in the hot tub so felt very much like we were being observed.

The other thing is the bed is very squeaky and every time you move on it it’s very loud. Otherwise a gorgeous little cottage in a beautiful place And the food in the local pubs were fantastic.

The location is peaceful and the accommodation had a few nice touches to make it special. The hot tub was lovely and really nice to come back to after hours of exploring.

Everything was lovely,the area the little cottage once there we were left alone and hardly saw anyone a perfect retreat to chill out and relax.

Tony was very welcoming and a really nice guy. If I had one little niggle it was the little summer house seemed to be facing the wrong way to take best advantage of the fantastic views and the hot tub cover also blocked some of the view when it was open but these were only small niggles. I would highly recommend a stay here and if we go back to this area we would stay again.

Fantastic stay at The Cow Shed.

Lovely location and had everything we needed and more. The attention to detail is clear with fresh eggs, milk and Prosecco on arrival. Lovely private outside area with summerhouse and hot tub. It’s our second stay and as soon as we got back we booked our third for our wedding anniversary in September.

Everything was brilliant.

All facilities needed for living in "The Cow Shed" were provided. We only needed to get bread, milk and food for our stay. Although bread, milk and eggs were provided to see us over first 24 hrs.

As wonderful as ever this is not the third time I've been to this property.

The setting is beautiful, the facilities are fantastic and the owners do everything they can to make your stay special. All the extras they give out are a lovely touch.

Small but perfectly formed, the Cow Shed is a beautiful, authentic, restful location; perfect for exploring the Peak District.

The owners couldn’t be more welcoming and as mentioned by others, it’s the quality and little details that really made the difference to our trip away. We were visiting over valentines’ so we were lucky to have even more special touches. If you’re after comfort, peace and tranquility and fantastic views then this is for you.

Really enjoyed the whole experience: Great directions, a really warm informal welcome, a lovely array of treats had been put on for us & the accomodation was splendid.

Our weekend away staying at the cow shed was simply delightful.

Little touches like Prosecco and chocolates, local eggs and milk left out for us with the warm welcome we received made it all the more special. The accommodation is warm and cosy, very comfortable and even the kitchenette provided more facilities than we expected. The hot tub was wonderful, on the coldest weekend of the year so far too! All ready for us when we arrived and with a spectacular view to enjoy in the morning. I booked this as a relaxing weekend for my boyfriends birthday and we will never forget it, we will definitely be returning!

We really enjoyed our November break in the Cow Shed.

The owners are very helpful and the ‘Shed’ is small but equipped to a high standard and is warm & cosy. The sun room and jacuzzi are great extras, even on cold November evenings. The drive is long and a bit bumpy but this is made clear in the listing. NB: be careful with the induction hob (which works great) it’s easy to damage the plastic surround with a hot pan...

The perfect countryside get away.

Everything from the minute we arrived to the minute we departed was perfect. When we arrived, Tony greeted us and shown us into the cowshed and talked us through the local area. The owners really go the extra mile to ensure your comfort too - a box of chocolates and some Prosecco on arrival was most welcome - thank you! The property itself was clean and finished to a high standard. We made great use of the Hot tub too, which was fantastic. We headed into Youlgreave itself and sampled each of the 3 pubs (The George, the Farmyard and the Bulls Head) And were really impressed with the warm and genuine welcome we received in each place. I’ve already recommended the cowshed to half a dozen people and we’ll be back too. Tony, thanks for your hospitality and for hosting such a brilliant little getaway for us both.

The Cow Shed was the perfect romantic get away for my partner and I.

The hot tub was most certainly used every day / evening. It was especially useful to have a quick dip (time limit in place - to be respectful of neighbours) after our extremely long drive. Clean, Cosy, everything we needed. The owners have clearly spent a lot of time putting the effort into this establishment and we hope to be back again / would 10 out of 10 recommend to family and friends.

Before booking the cow shed we read about it and it said the hot tub tub was secluded it wasn't we were over looked by the people staying in the cow barn by the camp site at the side of us by the owners conservatory at the other side only 30 feet away from us they had no blinds up large pile of stone and rubble was our view while sat in the hot tub and it never got cleans in till we was moving out was there for a week never been in a bed as uncomfortable it was sent even a good double bed not a table to eat meals of inside so uncomfortable eating of our kneesover all won't be going back paid a lot of money for a holiday we didn t enjoy

It was a very comfortable cottage in an idyllic place.

Very nice cottage but I had difficulty with the microwave as I’ve never used a multi one before but plenty of pubs nearby. Lovely food and a pretty village. The owner was very friendly and I would recommend it as the place was very quiet, beautiful views and the bonus was the hot tub.

We had fresh eggs from the chickens on arrival and the property had a summer house that had deck chairs and a bbq. Both towels for the bathroom and the hot tub were provided as was fresh milk in the fridge. We could not have asked for anything more and can’t wait to go back. Thank you Karen and Paul

The location was beautiful and the Cowshed was lovely.

The only drawback is the access road leading to the property. Once you leave the road onto the access track the standard of the track is appalling (very deep and wide potholes on a single track road) and is in serious need of some major repair. This is a shame as it would be the only reason for not considering a revisit to the Cowshed.

Fantastic property with everything we needed and more for a great weekend break.

Tony and his wife were both extremely helpful and accommodating recommending local restaurants and activities and even extra unexpected touches that just made the holiday even more enjoyable. The hot tub was the highlight for us, much enjoyed along with the views even in the rain. Would highly recommend to anyone.

My Husband and I had the most amazing weekend at the cow shed!

!! It was so much more than we ever expected. The room was so lovely, warm & cosy and had everything we could possibly need. The little extras on arrival were a lovely treat too!! The 1 mile walk into the village was nice but I would definitely recommend taking a torch with you. The hot tub was fantastic!!! I couldn’t recommend the cow shed enough!!!!!!!

Very relaxing and quiet place to base yourself in for the peak district.

Great to come back to after a day out and relax in the hour tub looking over open fields although the hot tub cover blocks some of it. Quiet and peaceful.

What a lovely stay in such a unique location!

Really loved the small added extra's. Will definitely be staying again in the future when another mini-break is needed!

After a marvellous week at The Cowshed and the owners helpfulness and friendliness its going to be VERY difficult for another Sykes holiday to match this one.

Great cottage with a brilliant hot tub!

Lovely views and very handy to walk to pubs for good and filling food in Youlgreave. The cottage and surroundings are well looked after. Will definitely be going back.

We had a thoroughly lovely stay at The Cow Shed.

The studio was well equipped and the owners were very nice, even leaving little bottles of prosecco, milk and eggs from their own chickens. The walk to the local pubs was just the right distance for us (about a mile down tracks through fields and lovely scenery). The hot tub was a real highlight and reserved only for guests of the Cow Shed. Youlgreave was perfect with nice local pubs, all very welcoming. Matlock and Bakewell were also very nice to visit. We also visited Chatsworth House en route home, which was fab. We will definitely be going back!

Stunning views and walks of the peak district. Hot tub is a great feature along with the summer house. Overall a fantastic stay and will definitely be returning and recommending to friends and family!

It was a lovely, beautifully furnished cottage about 20 minutes, (mostly uphill) from the village.

The hot tub was delightful and the summer house was a lovely additional space. My only caveats would be that the wi-fi signal was weak and although the kitchen was well equipped, there was very little preparation space- so don't expect to cook a complicated meal.
