Liberty House

This is our 3rd visit to Liberty House, we usually visit in the winter so our first experience of Ashbourne in summer and it was delightful, perfect location, the parking really isn’t an issue as it’s just opposite the road and a short walk, the high street has everything you need, really friendly people.

The house itself is lovely, the recently painted kitchen was cute and we love all the little touches throughout, gorgeous bathroom

Lovely house in the centre of Ashbourne.

Ideal for exploring the Peak District, at the beginning of the Tissington trail, whilst also having the facilities of Ashbourne. The house is big, comfortable, clean and full of unusual decor and pictures. The only things to note are that the house is on a main road, with yellow lines in front, therefore nearby parking is in a side street. Mainly two hours only in the day, with some free spaces at the bottom if you are lucky to get them. The other thing that was an issue for us was the noise from the road, and the nearby bells from the church. It was a warm week, however in order to sleep I had to close the windows in the front bedroom and wear ear plugs.

We had a great stay at Liberty Cottage.

The location proved to be a great base for us, acting as a gateway to the Peak District, plus easy access to Alton Towers. The house itself had everything that we needed as a family of 4. Parking proved easy, with the 2 hour parking allowance between 9-6 on School Lane (parking spaces about 80m from the house), suiting our routine of days out, but having unrestricted parking options from 4pm until 11am the next day. We never struggled to park here, with multiple spaces available. There are double yellow lines outside the property and we saw an active parking enforcement attendant patrolling the area. The only concern we had with a young family was safety of the upstairs front window - this is a very low window without any locks, and could be reached by both our 5 year old and 1 year old. We could manage this in waking hours, but we had concerns about sleeping hours and their risk of sleep walking. Locks or secondary glazing are recommended (the latter would help with reducing the sound from the road). Otherwise, we would stay in this house again.

Thoroughly enjoyed our four night stay at Liberty House.

Such a quirky place and a great location for a walk into Ashbourne. Central for visiting several National Trust properties.Very comfortable and warm. Super dog friendly too. The only issues we had were daily problems with parking( we had two cars), the early morning traffic noise in the front bedroom and the rather grubby kitchen. Thank you

Stunning property to stay in, with everything you need for a luxurious stay in the Peak District.

The location of the house is perfect within Ashbourne, which is a truly charming and welcoming little town. Local pubs, shops and restaurants within walking distance. A short drive or walk will take you into the glorious surrounding dales to walk miles. Could not fault Liberty House and will definitely be back to stay sometime.

Beautiful home in lovely spot.

Liberty House went above and beyond our expectations.

We had a wonderful week in luxurious accommodation that was perfectly placed for everything we needed. Within a short walk of the town centre which has a wonderful variety of shops, there are also some beautiful walks just a stones throw from the property. We honestly couldn't ask for more!

Lovely property in a great location for the town.

Fairly well equipped kitchen which is good. Bedrooms are lovely but no where in main bedroom for clothes(there is a wardrobe on the landing but it had other stuff in there including a rug so made it hard to use) but that being said it didn’t effect the stay in anyway. Would reccomend this property to others wanting a well located property in a lovely town

Lovely comfy house in great location

Liberty House was a wonderful place for us to stay!

It is beautifully decorated, much bigger than the photos suggest and has the perfect location near the centre of Ashbourne with shops, cafes and the Tissington bike trail on the doorstep. Thank you also for the much welcome bottle of wine!

Can’t fault the cottage.

Second time we have stayed. Enjoyed the stay. Good running routes. Fabulous village with lovely shops. The property was clean and lots of room. It was a little cold the first day as the thermostat was not working but called the owner and they helped me to get the heating on manually….so made good. Will stay again.

Lovely convemient house with excellent decor.

2 large very comfortable beds. Good size TV. Nice sheltered courtyard garden. Good location for the Dales. Being elderly had a bit pf difficulty turning turning thr heating but once solved it was fine.

Perfect for exploring The Peak District with loads of dog friendly pubs on the doorstep. House is amazing and full of character. Well equipped, really comfortable and rooms a great size. Heaps of space for 2 dogs and 4 adults. Will definitely be returning.

What a lovely property in the centre of Ashbourne, spacious and well equipped, beautifully decorated and not "beige" like many of the holiday properties.

Kitchen was well equipped with a great cooker. Slipper bath was also given a try after a couple of long walks. Ashbourne is a lovely town and worth exploring, The Bear is a great coffee/lunch stop, The Middle One for an excellent beer, The Bowling Green for superb steaks. Lovely walk up the Tissington Trail, straight out from the accommodation and up through the tunnel. The only negative we had was the lack of sockets in the bedrooms, the ladies had to go onto the landing to use a socket for the hair drier and there were no spare sockets for plugging in phone chargers etc. A simple solution would be to put an extension socket or multi point socket onto one of the bedside light sockets.

Liberty House is a beautiful property, stunningly luxurious, the Christmas trees and tasteful decorations added to the whole perfect weekend.

Ideally placed for restaurants and bars but you may find you don't want to venture outside once you get in the house.

Perfectly positioned in the town of Ashbourne within easy walking distance to the town centre and the Tissington trail is literally just across the road with Sainsbury's nearby. Liberty House was cosy and quirky with everything you needed (with the exception of a dustpan and brush) the log burner was lovely!

This is a spacious and comfortable property.

It's the second time we have stayed in Liberty House and it is perfect for a holiday in the Derbyshire Dales. The kitchen is well equipped; the large cooker is particularly impressive. It is also very useful that there is a utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer and a washing line outside. The little yard with table and chairs is perfect for a glass of wine after a long day's cycling. It is very charmingly furnished and decorated and the beds and sofas are very comfortable; can't really recommend it highly enough.

Very clean and comfortable would recommend this property. Great sized bathroom with a lovely shower. Everything spot on.

Down stairs coat hooks under the stairs would be good .

What an amazing cottage!

Clean, very comfortable and homely. The decor was great, nice and warm with the bonus of a log fire….so cosy. Plus a brilliant shower and bath. The location was fantastic for exploring wider Peak District. A lovely touch with a bottle of wine waiting for us. Could not have wanted anything more.

It had all the facilities inside we wanted or needed with some lovely extras .Very comfortable and cozy. The area was lovely with just a short walk to the town centre. Would definitely recommend and would stay here again .

We had a wonderful stay at Liberty House.

The photos don’t do the place justice. Fantastically styled and so cosy - perfect for our January getaway. The town of Ashbourne has loads to see with lots of pubs. There were also so many great walking routes nearby. We had to keep an eye on our dog in the garden because he’s small and could squeeze through the gate if he tried but this wasn’t an issue. The owner was also really friendly and approachable when we reached out. We will definitely be back - there’s more pubs to see and more walks to do!

The house was very comfortable and quirky. Very comfortable beds. Claire had decorated the house beautifully for Christmas. Perfect location for Ashbourne, literally 2 minutes away from all the wonderful shops, cafes etc. We will definitely return

This was a lovely break in a very quaint property.

The owner,Claire, contacted us with all the details & answered questions we had about the area. She recommended several places to visit and all were great.the property was spotless and had everything you could need. We would definitely recommend it and hopefully have another visit.

Great property in a ideal location.

Large interiors and well decorated for the period. Double bedroom to the rear with twin singles at the front. Large family bathroom adjacent to the bedrooms with roll top bath and corner shower all of which were very clean and tidy. Dining room at the front following on to a large lounge area then kitchen and finally utility room with toilet. Small courtyard garden with seating. Parking along towards the school with plenty of places after "school run" time. There is a small parking area directly outside and opposite which we used to unpack our vehicle. Overall a fantastic place to stay.

Liberty House is as beautiful and stylish as the photographs on the listing suggest and is a really delightful, quite, historical area of Ashbourne.

It feels like a loved home that has been cared for and built up over the years, full of character and comfort. It's also really well equipped with cleaning products, toilet paper, kitchen roll, bin bags, foil etc, so you don't feel you have to bring everything with you/immediately go shopping. There's no bossy instructions and rules pinned up anywhere, so you feel welcomed and trusted, as if you're living in a friend's house for a while. Thank you Claire!

Wonderful cottage, set in a quiet town, clise to the church and local places of interest, Dovedale is Wonderful just a few miles away.

The cottage is beautiful and quirky perfect for a couple with 2 children, my favourite part was the amazing bath, to chill and relax after a day exploring, thoroughly enjoyed staying at the cottage, the only thing I would say is please watch out for how things have been washed up, some of the plates and cooking trays were not clean to my specifications and we did get a few splinters from the floors, but overall we found it absolutely delightful.

We enjoy our stay however a couple of improvements could have been made.

The bedding on the double bed was ver tired. It was really bobbly and uncomfortable and had seen better days. The single bed next to the window was very noisy, like the screws needed tightening.

Great location with everything you need.

A very quirky and cosy property, lovely and cool during the hot weather. Only very minor issue was the shower, which was missing the hand shower attachment, and the cubicle which had seen better days. That aside, highly recommended and good communication from the owner.

This was a lovely property, beautifully decorated and spacious.

It was well equipped and comfortable - the large bathroom with deep bath tub felt particularly luxurious. The pretty back yard was very useful for our laundry after long cycle rides on the Tissington Trail, and the large cooker was a treat and very easy to use. I would definitely stay there again if we come back to Ashbourne.

We had a really enjoyable, relaxing break at Liberty House.

It's a comfortable home with everything you need. We were even able to enjoy the patio area one day and it's a real sun trap. I slept really well as the bed was so comfortable. Ashbourne is a lovely town with lots of interesting independent shops and a lot of history. Thanks to Claire for the welcome bottle of wine. little things like make a difference. I would definitely recommend this place to family and friends either with or without dogs.

The cottage was lovely and as nice as it seemed on the pictures.

Really nice to get a welcome bottle of wine too. It was very stressful trying to arrange key collection on the morning- there was no reply to my message about key collection the night before, neither phone number was connected and Sykes didn’t have any alternative numbers for the owners. Was hard to know whether we should set off for Ashbourne or not as we didn’t know if we’d have anywhere to stay when we got there. Thankfully it was ok in the end. Parking was also more difficult than we expected based on the write up on the website and we had to park further away than we anticipated. But all in all a good holiday cottage and location for exploring the surrounding area.

Disappointed overall.

No welcome pack of local produce - a bottle of supermarket bucks fizz doesn't fit the bill alone. No information folder for the property, facilities or local amenities - only a drawer stuffed with leaflets. The property has the potential to provide a really comfortable stay in a period character property but is unfortunately let down by some serious maintenance issues with the walls and ceilings in some rooms (water leakage?) and lack of detailed cleaning. My wife spent a few hours cleaning out the kitchen, especially the cupboards and glassware inside much of which was dusty and had greasy finger prints. Some people may think we are being over critical but we were moved to write this feedback following our experience on departure. We stripped the bedding as requested only to find we had been sleeping with a stained duvet cover and recent blood mark on a mattress cover. This must have been spotted at the last changeover with a change of the fitted sheet. The last straw was when we came to use the vacuum cleaner for a quick clean as we normally do at a rental cottage; the vacuum cleaner was completely full of detritus. There are many other smaller issues (leaking wash basin taps, missing shower attachment) but enough said. The owner is clearly an accomplished artist; some of that detail needs to be applied to the rental process and property condition itself.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Ashbourne and to Liberty House.

Lovely clean property with a comfortable bed. Spacious living room, separate dining room and some quirky decor in keeping with the age of the property. Plenty of pots, pans, crockery, glassware and utensils. Equipped with white goods the utility room would be very handy for longer visits. A courtyard garden which would be a very pleasant space in the summer. We didn't venture beyond Ashbourne as we enjoyed mooching about town, a bit of window shopping walking to and around the big park with our little dog, up steps and onto Bellevue Road and down into town again. Plenty of cafes for breakfasts or lunches and we enjoyed the Bridge Inn for more of a main meal. Claire was very helpful with directions and advice about the house. We parked by the school opposite the Church. Hope to return.

We had a lovely week at Liberty House.

The property is designed beautifully & is in an ideal location.

We have stayed in many properties and found this one one of the best for being fully equipped with everything you need during your stay . Claire the owner is always on hand and supplied us with some very useful information for our stay .

We thought the house was beautiful and perfectly situated.

The only issues were the parking which was not easy and also the heating which we could never get to run at a level that was comfortable, it was either boiling hot or would suddenly switch itself off for no apparent reason. The individual radiator controls did not work at all. Over all though it was a very lovely house and obviously well cared for.

Liberty college was a great place to stay in Ashbourne.

It was very central, walking distance into the town. It was very well equipped, although I did miss a dishwasher. It was comfortable, clean, creatively furnished, dog friendly and welcoming. We appreciated the bottle of wine! Claire was very helpful and responded promptly with any queries. We were able to park the car close by. Ashbourne welcomes dogs in shops, cafes and pubs. Plenty of walks. Tissington trail is on the doorstep and close to Dovedale and Carsington Waters. We didnt want to leave!!!

Fabulous cottage in a lovely area

We have stayed in lots of cottages and this was by far our favourite one, everything you needed and more, as we walked in it felt at home, the bathroom is amazing blew us away. Ashbourne and surrounding areas are beautiful. Please can you also locate this property near the sea for our summer holidays lol ....little Ted loved it also

It was a privilege to stay in this Grade 2 listed cottage.

Everything we needed for our stay was provided. Very comfortable beds and a chandelier in the bathroom. Very decadent. No parking immediately outside the property, but ample just a short walk away. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again as we had a great time and the dogs loved it too.

Liberty House has a cosy home from home feeling and is convenient for exploring the lovely town of Ashbourne and the Peak District.

There is everything you need to enjoy a comfortable stay from a teaspoon to the beautiful roll top bath. The courtyard is the ideal place to eat alfresco or relax with a book and glass of wine. Claire sent a detailed message before arrival with useful information about the house, town and places to eat. A thoughtful touch thank you

Liberty house Is simply lovely.

Everything provided that you could need for a comfortable stay. Kitchen fab! Cooked several meals on the range. The bath was a very welcome luxury after a days walking. It was nice to lay back and watch the birds out of the bathroom window. The location is great. Shops, restaurants, pubs just a few minutes walk away. Food good at the George and Dragon. The bed was super comfortable and we slept very well. All in all a lovely stay at Liberty house and I would highly recommend.

A very special touch. The property is exactly as listed and photographed. We had a wonderful week spent in a beautiful home and enjoyed making fires in the living room too. It is easy to walk into the main town from the cottage and loads of walks to do only a short drive away. They also let pets stay which is very good. I would defiantly recommend! Thank you

The house has everything you need, comfortable and spacious.

Lovely enclosed garden with seating and very safe for our dog. Close to all local amenities and Sainsbury's in the village. Free parking available next to the church. The wine & chocolates were a nice touch also - thank you!

Its location is perfect for all local amenities and attractions. Plenty of things to do locally and plenty of restaurants and pubs within walking distance. The local Ashbourne people are among the friendliest we have ever come accross.

Liberty house was in a nice location for the town of Ashbourne .

The house was comfortable with good facilities and the king size bed was a dream The only drawback was the lack of curtains at the bedroom. The bathroom wasn't overlooked but I felt very exposed whilst sitting in the bath. The owner very kindly left us chocs and presence. THANK YOU

The property was located very close to the main town square and was beautifully decorated and the furniture was lovely.

The cottage was very warm and cosy. The owner had left a bottle of Prosecco and a box of chocolates which was a lovely touch. The log burner was lovely especially when it was snowing.

Great base for visiting Chatsworth House Christmas Market and National Memorial Arboretum. The house is quirky but comfortable.

Liberty House is ideally located for a week or weekend trip to Ashbourne or the Derbyshire Dales.

The house has everything you need, warm, cosy, great beds and linen a huge bath and shower and well fitted kitchen. Communication with Claire was quick and effective and we had a great break.

This is our second time of staying in Liberty house and we will stay again without doubt .

Very hospitable host , answered our queries promptly and any issue or question was remedied as quickly as possible . We would recommend staying here as location and facilities were very convenient and homely .Liberty house is Within very easy reach to Alton towers , local dog walks and Ashbourne itself is very quaint and very friendly towards dogs and most restaurants and cafes welcome dogs with open arms .

The house is well equipped and furnished, and we particularly loved the location in Ashbourne, very well situated.

Great location in Ashbourne, a lovely place to stay with all sorts of activities in the area from Alton Towers theme park to walking and caving.

The accommodation was great, the only convenience missing was a dish washer. There are double yellow lines outside the house but not a problem as there is free parking just down the road near the church and school.

It’s a beautiful character property with great facilities and well located for trips out in the Peak District. There are little bits of artistic design throughout the house - we loved the map on the kitchen wall - and the bathroom is stunning and perfect for a relaxing bath or shower after long walks. There are plenty of shops nearby and a range of cafes and pubs in Ashbourne and the kitchen is well equipped if eating in. We had all the information we needed and good communication from the owner before and during our stay. Would definitely visit again.

Utterly delightful house in perfect place for exploring an area that has so many things to see and do including great walks from your doorstep and a gorgeous bath to soak in.

The kitchen is very well equipped but a M&S foodhall and two supermarkets nearby mean a good choice of ready-meals available if you just want to chill in the courtyard with a glass and not take the short walk into town to eat out. Very helpful owner and free parking.

Cottage was spotless, beautiful and perfectly located.

Owner of the cottage was very helpful, providing lots of key info before we arrived and kindly left us a bottle of prosecco to enjoy during our stay! Only very minor negative would be that the kitchen lacked some of the staples I would expect to see in a self catering cottage, I couldnt find any salt for my avocado! Maybe worth just buying up a few basic seasonings/spices/condiments for the guests? Would 100% recommend and will probably visit again!

We were impressed initially as the house was bigger than the photos.

Super comfy sofas and living room was lovely and cool during the heatwave when we stayed. Courtyard garden was perfect for us and our dog. We are out there several times. Shower was powerful didn't use the beautiful bath though. Beds were comfy too. Only issue was the front bedroom had a lot of noise in the mornings from lorries. Back bedroom was very quiet. Perfect location. We parked daily at the leisure centre for £6 each day. The town was wonderful. Lots of choice for food and drink. Sainsbury's very nearby too. Ideal location for exploring the Peak District. A great find. Thank you for a wonderful break.

Lovely well equipped accommodation within easily reach of lots of activities and convenient for a local supermarket too.

We were dismayed to find that pots, pans, glasses and some crockery were not clean when we got them out to use.

We had to clean them ourselves before we could use them. Also the stove had been left full of ashes, unburnt coal etc so we couldn't use it. There were no instructions about where to deposit it all so we left it.

Liberty House is a lovely property within a short walk of the town centre and it's facilities.

It is cosy and well equipped and we hope to return in the future. There is no parking outside but free street parking is not far away as is the pay-and-display car park at the leisure centre two minutes walk away. The start of the Tissington Trail cycle and walking path is two minutes away and short drives take you to some lovely Peak District locations. We can recommend Impromptu cafe just down Church Street and Maison du Biere bar and off license also on Church Street for good quality refreshment and friendly service. Angela and Neil Gallagher
