Description

This charming, semi-detached cottage sits within the village of Great Longstone, Derbyshire.

Boasting a characterful accommodation over two floors, Buttercup Cottage is a great base for families or two couples looking to escape to the heart of Peak District.

Head through the front door, kick off your boots in the porch area before heading into the sitting room, complete with exposed beams, two plush sofas and a woodburning stove, a lovely space to unwind each evening.

Move into the kitchen/diner, dominated with a range gas cooker, where you can rustle up a feast for the group whilst the dining table is set with crockery and cutlery.

From the kitchen doors, head outside and up to the lawned garden, where you can enjoy a refreshing beverage whilst relaxing on the patio furniture.

As the night grows darker, venture upstairs and make yourself comfortable in either of the bedrooms; the master houses a super-king-size with zip/link beds, can be arranged as a twin on request, whilst the double has an en-suite shower room.

From the door there are some excellent walks and cycle routes throughout the local area as well as trail and fell running to enjoy!

Within a short walk there is a well-stocked village shop and two pubs, The Crispin and the White Lion, where you can enjoy a pint and some tasty grub.

Head to Bakewell, a charming market town where you can enjoy Bakewell Pudding and visit the iconic Chatsworth House, a 1600s mansion and garden.

Continue the adventure at Matlock Bath, which offers an aquarium, the Peak District Mining Museum and the fun-filled Gulliver’s Kingdom.

All this and much more awaits at Buttercup Cottage.

My husband, mum and I LOVED our stay for 6 nights.

We were relieved and delighted to find such a comfortable, clean and peaceful cottage. Very well equipped kitchen, comfy couches and beds. Very good central heating. Easy parking out front. Perfect central location for exploring all around the Peaks. Keen to come back! Upstairs, the double bedroom with the ensuite was perfect for my mum so she could use the walk in shower, while my husband and I enjoyed the super king bedroom with good blockout blinds and curtains. A very quiet street and minimal noise from the boiler/pipes made for very peaceful sleeps! He and I were happy to use the downstairs bathroom (with shower over bath), which could get a tiny bit chilly at times but mostly warm enough with the towel rail. Stairs were not steep thankfully. Whole place has a lovely atmosphere and decor. Lounge area has warm lamp lighting and we were obsessed with the fabric of the Roman blinds haha. There’s a little wood burner that we did not need to use (in late October) as the radiators were good and easy to adjust. TV is a little small and seemed to have an issue with the speakers/sound but I’ve let the host know about this. There’s a good selection of books - including walking guides, and a few games and things. Kitchen dining was also a lovely space. Good fridge, plenty of bench space, fantastic huge gas cooker and ovens. Cooked a couple of meals with no issues as the cottage is pretty well stocked with cookware. Sugar, tea and instant coffee are supplied. There’s a selection of cafetières and I even saw a Tassimo coffee pod machine in the cupboard (though we’d brought our own with us)! Just needs some hand towels and extra tea towels. (BYO kitchen roll, baking paper, cooking oil, salt.) Courtyard and yard at the back would be lovely in warmer weather. Good washing machine in the kitchen, washing line outside, drying rack, ironing board etc supplied. Smooth, easy stay, 5 stars.

A lovely cottage sat in a gorgeous village that has pretty much everything you would need for a week long stay.

The kitchen diner and comfort of both beds are a stand out, as is the sheltered and secluded garden. There’s fabulous walking from the front door either along the Monsal Trail or, for the more adventurous, Longstone Edge and Cressbrook Dale. For food and drink there are a number of pubs within walking distance with both The Pack Horse and Ashford Arms offering excellent food. All in all a lovely place to stay, with good facilities and easy access to many of the Peak District’s plentiful charms.

We have just returned from another lovely stay at Buttercup Cottage, Great Longstone, and once again we have thoroughly enjoyed our time there.

A cosy cottage with good facilities and a nice small garden area to sit out in the sunshine and enjoy hot or cold drinks! A good location with a couple of pubs up the road, and another a short distance just outside. The Crispin PH was good as always and we enjoyed the excellent meals there and the friendly staff. The Monsal Trail is only a short walk away as well.
