3 Primitive Mews

This cottage was perfect for our birthday weekend break with our 2 year old spaniel.

We commented on how we could easily spend a week here using it as a base to tour the Peak District and have walks from the door. The due in the crown for us was the enclosed 3 acres field we could use with specially cut paths to walk around and watch the sunset. If there was a downside in the evening there’s only free view on the tv but there is a good stock of dvds.

Perfect cottage.

It had everything we needed. Really appreciated the welcome hamper as we arrived late. The beds are super comfy. My dog loved the paddocks that are made available just for cottages use, absolute bonus when you have a dog. If you haven’t got a dog then still take the time to walk around and take in the views, there is even a bench to relax. Tracey was an amazing host, with lots of ideas for where to go. We will definitely be back as it was a perfect for base to see the sights.

Gorgeous little village with an excellent pub, amazing food and friendly staff. Owners friendly and helpful. Paddock for the dog was a super bonus. Loved every minute of our stay.

Fabulous village location and the 3-acre paddock was great. But the property feels tired, in need of some basic maintenance eg mould on shower silicone and peeling ceiling paint, missing bed-knob and hole in bed linen, rat trap and droppings in electrical intake cupboard. However, with some updating it would be a superb place to stay instead of just adequate.

Access to the secure field was brilliant.

Total game changer. Accommodation was very clean and the cottage was well appointed.

Lovely welcome pack - very thoughtful and great communication from Ellie. The paddock at the back of the cottages is amazing- our dog loved it! The Church Inn up the road is great too - lovely food and so friendly (dog friendly too!) Thoroughly enjoyable stay!

Having stopped previously at one of the owners other lets in the village , I had no concerns that this accommodation would be any less than excellent.

Nice cosy cottage perfectly adequate for what we needed over a long weekend . The information provided and gaining access on arrival was seamless . We will be back to sample another soon .

We thought that the cottage was lovely, location great, pub nearby had good food, and the added bonus was the 3 acre field to walk our dog.

Lots of things to do in the vicinity too.

On arrival we were blown away by how nice the cottage was.

There was everything you could possibly need and more, such as bread, milk, tea, coffee and biscuits. Lots of local information provided and a nice outdoor space where we enjoyed our morning coffee. The beds are extremely comfortable and en-suite bedrooms a bonus. The cottage is in a beautiful village just a short drive from Buxton also close to Bakewell a place we love to visit. There is nice a pub serving the best of pub grub and the local walks with stunning views had the best finishing place… the pub. We also joined the local quiz in the village on Saturday night and were made to feel very welcome. Thank you we had a lovely few days and hopefully we will be back x

Lovely cottage.

Thoughtful welcome with milk, bread and a biscuit treat. Nice quality crockery and cutlery draw full of useful tools for the kitchen, and plenty of pans etc. The bed linen and curtains are all matching and lovely quality as was the towels (which really makes a difference). Shame there isn’t a dishwasher (but nowhere to put one). We arrived in deep snow and the owner offered to pick up shopping for us from the supermarket which was 5 miles away, we felt that was very kind. They even cleared the snow from the front door as it continued to snow for several days, and found us jigsaws and games to supplement the books, dvds provided. The internet is intermittent but unless it’s essential it’s not really an issue. There are plenty of walks from the doorstep, which were delightful in the deep snow. We had a lovely 10 day stay and felt very comfortable and cosy in the cottage.

The accommodation was excellent, very comfortable, clean and warm in a lovely location.

Very appreciative of the welcome package. Thankyou we had a wonderful time and will definitely be back again.

Nice welcome pack and heating on so very cosy. Good secure back garden for the dog. Loved the pub at the end of the road, did fabulous food.

Best cottage we've been in.

Ancient exterior and modern comfort within. Beds very comfy and lovely en suite facilities. Walk in wardrobe and lots of drawer space! Sitting room with enormous TV and digital things we didn't touch as no idea what to do with them! Reading matter and guides. Well stocked kitchen. Heating just right, never cold or too warm. All in all very happy with it. Pub a vigorous walk UP the street very friendly with good food. A steep climb beyond the pub brings you up on the highest point with marvellous views all round.

Cottage is situated in a beautiful part of the Peak District, very quirky with extremely thick stone walls.

The host and housekeeper were very friendly and helpful. The internet service was good during our stay, once we had the code so we could login to the owners server. We didn't have any internet or phone service on the first evening because the internet information isn't kept inside the visitors guide folder.... it's written on a small piece of paper that's stuck to the back of the front door. This information should be inside the visitors information folder. Beds were comfortable and it was nice to have your own bathroom. Safe off street parking, lovely paddock to walk around, weather permitting and a nicely kept walled outside garden that you access via the living room or via outside gate. Living room had a large TV with limited channels due to internet connection. Two comfortable reclining sofas. Lots of places to visit on your doorstep and local walks. Pub a ten minutes walk away from the cottage, we didn't visit.

We had a great stay with friends at Primitive Mews.

The cottage was ideally situated , well equipped, the beds were very comfortable (the only down was the quilts on both beds could do with renewing) It was lovely to have a garden and to walk the meadow. Would recommend and would definitely book again. Near to Buxton and Bakewell. Pub food was excellent. We had a great weekend joining in with the village fete events.

3 Primitive Mews is very much as described.

It has a good location with walks locally and easy access to nearby towns and attractions. The local pub is a short walk and we enjoyed our visit. We felt some of the furniture to be dated and quirky and the huge TV in the living room is overwhelming! There was no ice tray in the freezer. Because of the exposed location and local building styles the windows are small making the house quite dark. This was made worse by unnecessary net curtains. How about a stable door to outside in the lounge?

Apart from cold weather our holiday was a great success.

Easy to get to all attractions. Welcome drink at our hosts home on night of arrival very informative. The local pub was so good that we only ate in twice.

The property was as advertised, but I was very dissatisfied by the reception I received by the owner.

I found the owner very confrontational and extremely rude. I had to pull my car up to the property door to unload to prevent blocking the road. (I am disabled and the car park is a considerable distance from the entrance, and was too far to carry my belongings to the property). The following day he confronted me (without introducing himself) and shouted "don't park outside this property". My car was in the car park and I wondered what he was referring to? I explained but he then just walked away. I do not think that was a very welcoming introduction, and I would advise future guests to beware of the welcome you could expect.

Lovely, clean and comfy cottage.

Quick to respond when we had an issue and offered friendly "in the know" advise on where to visit.

The cottage needs alot of tlc Bathrooms need a full refurb Living room fireplace is cracked and very damaged needs replacing Kitchen top has been fitted wrong so water runs off onto you and the floor.

The door into the garden once opened needs a lot of help from outside to get it shufridge/freezer needs replacing. A smell of damp as you work in.

What a lovely cottage, so well appointed and everything you could want, for a delightful stay in the Peak District.

Tracey, the owner, was incredibly helpful and even replaced the DVD player when it seemed to be faulty. It was an extra bonus to have a lovely big paddock to exercise the dog first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Altogether an excellent find!

Although the property’s interior was fairly worn and some of the decor could do with freshening up it was cosy and most of what we needed was to hand.

Perhaps this was due to us arriving at the end of the season and a refurbishment plan is scheduled for the beginning of next season? The “blu-ray” player didn’t play Blu-ray Discs and we had several instances of it not playing anything - to be fair Tracey did come round on the first occasion that we had trouble with it but it seemed to have righted itself by then, we put it down to overheating so each time it “froze” we switched it off for 15 minutes and tried again - the sound system never did work. We were a bit surprised that there was no recycling bin on the property as most places we have stopped in recent years have been insistent on recycling. Otherwise the facilities were all good and there were a few unexpected little extras supplied which were a bonus. The site is a bit remote so very cold when the temperature dropped but there is no shortage of heating appliances- it’s remoteness also meant that you needed to travel to obtain staples like bread and milk, ( there is no shop in the village), but the owners did supply a little starter pack just in case we forgot anything, which was appreciated. The information booklet was very thorough and Tracey was at pains to let us know that help was just a call away if we had any issues. One little niggle was the cutlery, it has seen better days and needs at least the knives and forks replaced please. We had a nice restful stay at the property and had the weather been a little warmer we would have done more rambling around the gorgeous countryside surrounding Primitive Mews but unfortunately we are city folk and don’t cope well with the extremes of cold weather, we chose cosy hibernate instead.

This little cosy cottage is ideal for visiting all the lovely attractions in the peak district.

The cottages was lovely and warm which was great as we had very mixed weather (expected in November). The village pub was superb and offered a fabulous range of homemade and rather large meals. We went to the quiz on Monday and were welcomed by the locals even when we won. The paddock was a great bonus and our dog Skye absolutely loved it.

A lovely cottage, very comfortable and almost everything you need was provided.

We had asked for an optional (free) safety gate to be provided to stop our small dog from getting up the stairs as dogs are specifically forbidden upstairs, however this was not present. The bathrooms whilst perfectly functional, could do with some work on the shower tray sealant as this lets down the score due to its current state. Phone signal is extremely poor, however that is Derbyshire all over so not a fault of the owners, but a Wifi extender to allow a signal in the lounge and upstairs bedrooms would also benefit any future occupants. Overall, pleased and would return to this cottage in future.

With a converted barn, we expected the furnishings to be more traditional.

It was comfortable. Phone connection in that area was poor.

Had a fabulous time at Primitive Mews, the cottage was lovely, everything you needed for a perfect stay, the welcome pack was a nice touch, Milo our Patterdale Terrier loved the paddock where he could run off lead.

The Church Inn was just a 5 min walk, served lovely meals and was dog friendly, all in all we had a fantastic week.

Hot water to hot could be dangerous could do with an update.

! Chelmorton is a charming little community, with some great walks right on the doorstep. The property is in a terrific location, is comfy and cosy and well equipped. A real plus point being two double ensuite bedrooms, so perfect for two couples on a walking holiday. Buxton and Bakewell very accessible, but really everywhere in the Peak District is on your doorstep. The Church pub at the top of the village is a real bonus as well.

Cosy cottage ideally located for long/short walks, short drives to key towns(Buxton/ Bakewell/ Castleton etc), great facilities in the cottage, nice pub nearby. Nothing to fault!!

Chelmorton itself is the most beautiful village.

The cottage was very comfortable and clean. Loved our last minute 4 day stay.

For us it was the perfect cottage; had everything we needed, was spick and span and the beds and the sofas were very comfortable indeed.

We appreciated, too, the quiet situation and the easily accessible field for walking the dog. The thick walls meant that we did not suffer the worst excesses of the heat during our stay. It was so good to retreat to the coolness within.

Fantastic cottage

The cottage was beautiful and well cared for.

The welcome pack was very much appreciated. We knew that wifi and mobile signal weren't good before we arrived but the beautiful village and lovely pub made up for that. People were so friendly in the village and the location made it easy to get to any where you wanted to go. We experienced the Scarecrow festival, which was lovely. I recommend staying at this cottage!

We all enjoyed our stay the cottage was well equipped, clean & warm.

The welcome pack enabled us to make a nice cup of tea as soon as we arrived. Chelmorton is a lovely friendly village. The information pack gave us lots of ideas of places to visit. We went to Pooles Cavern, the Heights of Abraham, Blue John Cavern, Peveril Castle, Castleton & Bakewell during our 4 night stay & look forward to returning to Chelmorton.

The internet strength in this cottage is very poor as I believe the router is situated in another of the terraced cottages meaning that you have to go outside this one to make contact with the outside world - not acceptable in 2022.

Pleasant cottage in lovely surroundings, nice and quiet.

Good location for exploring the Peak District and Derbyshire Dales. The wild meadow is great for letting your dog run wild. I would say some of the kitchen facilities needed an update (ie cutlery, not much and knives were blunt. The fridge/freezer was very small), however these were only niggles.The cottage was comfortable and warm.

Very clean and comfortable property.

Excellent host, we reported a problem and it was sorted as soon as possible.

No problem with the property but absence of a local shop in the village and the poor mobile signal would not make me want to return.

Hadn't realised there wouldn't be WiFi, but we coped and local pub (with great food) has WiFi.

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at this property which was very well equipped.

The location is a small village in the Derbyshire Dales just a short drive from Buxton which is a beutiful place and offers a wide selection of restaurants and other facilities. The Church Inn is just a few minutes walk away and is to be recommended for food, drink and ambience. The only downside was that the wifi signal can be a bit patchy and you need to walk to the adjacent Primitive Meadows for a phone signal. No problem though- the scenery is breathtaking.

it would have been a little on sml size I think for 4 adults and a dog. The field on the back was great for our dog to run around in.And the bedrooms were nice and cozy and both had great showers Would definitely book again

We had a lovely stay at Primitive mews.

It is in the perfect location for visiting the surrounding Peak District. You are in a quiet village, yet everything is close by. There is also a lovely pub 5 minutes walk away which serves nice food.

We had a Great time at the Cottage which was fully equipped with everything you need on a self catering holiday.

As it was November when we stayed I expected it to be cold in the cottage but it was lovely and warm and the showers were really hot. The only thing which was a problem was the internet and Phone signal which could be a bit hit and miss. The paddock was wonderful for our 10 month old puppy to race around because it was totally safe. All in all we really had a very relaxing time in Beautiful surroundings.

Enclosed garden suitable for our dog however a smaller one may escape under the gate! Nice and toasty warm when we arrived and the welcome pack was appreciated. Made use of the private meadow for walking our dog- beautiful views. Beds comfortable and furniture great quality. Shower rooms looking tired however spa showers were great. All crockery and cutlery we could have wanted available. Able to attach both phones to the internet, although the signal was not great due to property location however this did not cause a problem. Checklist showing that the property had been cleaned prior and very extensive instructions for exit. Would definitely book again.

The cottage was as expected, the garden area was lovely to sit in during the late afternoon and was great for the dog.

The second bedroom is very small and really only suits a single bed. Location was excellent and the village pub served good food.

Field was great for my greyhound. The only negative comment was the virtually non exist ant Internet.

Great position in a typical Derbyshire village and has the benefit of a restaurant/pub at the top of the village.

Ideal for some lovely walks from the village and just short drive to Monsal Trails.

Unfortunately this cottage is lucking of love and charm , garden has a plastic grass cold uncomfortable metal benches and the 2 flower pots are full of weeds and no plants it looks so sad.

... The main room is very small, very dark with dated decor and oversize TV for such a small room, we didn't enjoy sitting there. Internet was super weak and was bearly catching any signal only in 2 spots it was impossible to do anything and no reception to make any calls. Bedrooms were very basic and there was quite a lot of dust in the corners and on top of the frames plus big spiders in both rooms!!!! . There was no cleaning products except the washing up liquid no bin bags no kitchen paper no silver foil for the oven no ice cubes trays . Kitchen had a fair selection of equipment and we had a standard toast bread milk and biscuits but all very basic it would be nice if those products were local or better quality . Overall the property was very average I would give it 2/5 and it didn't meet our expectations and it was expensive for what it had to offer , we left few days earlier and we will not be coming back to this cottage.This is our honest opinion maybe it will inspire people to make improvements.The village itself was charming very quiet and rural.

The very modern showers were a great bonus and there was always plenty of hot water.

Great cottage in a peaceful location.

The small enclosed garden was great for the dog and lots of rights of ways around for those who want a long walk.

The cottage was amazing, Sykes not so and would not book anything through them again.

The cottage is set in an idyllic village close to Buxton and lots of great walks. We all loved this break away, it was quiet and relaxing. If I had to find faults, one would be the dining furniture, metal on stone is not a good combo and two, considering we had to wait longer to get in due to cleaning, the cottage was no cleaner than my house. However this would not stop me from going back to this cottage by booking direct with the owner.

Chelmorton is a interesting and friendly village with good access to a number of places of interest nearby.

The cottage is ideally situated for visiting a number of towns and villages in the Derbyshire area.

The accommodation was very comfy and fully equipped. Both bedrooms were en suite with plenty of storage space. The added bonus of towels and tea towels was very much appreciated as was the complimentary tea, coffee, biscuits milk and bread. However, a few cleaning products would have been appreciated. The cottage had a walled garden with garden furniture and guests also have the use of a walled 3 acre paddock to exercise a dog which was a dream for our dog who was allowed off lead to run around . There was a selection of books, dvd's with games consoles and of course a large plasma tv. Highly recommended for a relaxing break.

Very comfortable and mostly well equipped (there was no dustpan and brush, for example).

The second bedroom bed size, a King, was too big, resulting in very narrow access down each side. A pair of 27" single beds with shared central bedside cabinet would work better. Excellent having access to the linked fields for dog walking, as the small garden was not really usable and, with plastic grass, needs to be swept clean. I would have done this myself but no tools were available. There is a damp problem around the sink base unit in the kitchen, possibly caused by having 2 separate circular deep/shallow SS bowls, with the tap fitted directly on the work surface. Water runs off the front edge easily, and damp has affected the base unit. A standard 1.5 bowl combined drainer unit would work better.

The cottage was in a good position in the village, it was a lot smaller than looked in the internet, the bedrooms where only just big enough for a double bed as you had to turn sideways to get into the bed!

The en suites where nice, the cottage was not a 4 star maybe a 3 , it could have done to have had a refurbishment as the paintwork was shabby and the garden which you looked out onto from the kitchen was full of weeds! The floors could have done to be cleaned as well as was really dusty, it was a good base to explore the area but for the money would expect a bit more!

Ideally situated for touring the Peaks, and in a nice village.

Fabulous secure dog walking facilities - we have an old dog and she galloped everywhere! Cottage was warm and comfortable - all lights and heaters left on for our arrival! Will definitely return (coronavirus permitting!!!) Thank you for a lovely weekend!

The information in the cottage was bang up to date,which is often not the case.

Also very clean, very well equipped,warm and welcoming. The food at the church inn was delicious and we had a nice relaxing week. Thank you everyone

Lovely cottage in friendly little village.

Nice stroll to the the warm and friendly local village pub that served excellent homemade food. The private walled paddocks were perfect to let the dog run free followed by a short drive to either Buxton or Bakewell and a wander round. We Will definitely re-visit.

Lovely cottage for our weekend getaway.

Great cottage with all the home comforts. Chelmorton is a small village with just a church and a pub. Nice to walk out from. The use of the meadow for walking the dog was an added bonus.

From the welcome milk and bread to the cozy cottage we couldn't have a better experience.

I would recommend this property to anyone wishing to explore Derbyshire for a long weekend or perhaps longer.

Brilliant place to stay!

Facilities were excellent, everything was thought of and I felt so welcome. I would definitely stay here again!

We had a welcome pack with facilities to make a hot drink and biscuits which was lovely after arriving late.

The cottage was well kept and everything was what we expected of it, had informative packs of what to do in the area and places of interest. Area was lovely, fantastic walks. The WiFi was okay, lost connection a lot and it didn’t have a good signal in the lounge - not a problem though as we weren’t there for internet so worked well enough for what we needed it for! Only flaw was that when we arrived all the heating was on so it was pretty toasty when it was already a hot weekend, and the bedding was set for winter. I would stay at this cottage again, great value for money and very pleased with our stay.

Great cottage.

It lacked for nothing. Beds very comfortable, which is important when you’re slightly older. Lovely friendly village and the pub meals are to be recommended.

Lovely village with friendly inhabitants.

cottage had lots of personal touches. Kitchen utensils excellent but did not get round to using the melon baller. it was warm and cosy with facilties to dry soaked walking gear. would recommend cottage to others. Wifi only worked in some rooms which was a bit frustrating. The only negative points which so easily could be rectified :Table and chairs outside frontage could not be used as so rusty would have damaged clothes. On our arrival had to clean up dog poo in several parts of artificial lawn. Also the stairs had not be cleaned for a while but 5 min sweep with brush and pan put that right -an oversight I would think. Certainly value for money and would stay again.

Having a cottage with two ensuite shower rooms was great, but the second bedroom was definitely a squeeze with barely any manoeuvring room around the bed.

This room was being used as a single and I think it's really too small for two people.

Fire in front room not fitted correctly also the top of the wooden fire surround is not attached to the sides touch it and it falls off .

........top of circular glass table is not fitted to legs again it moves if you touch it

We loved the accommodation other than upstairs squeaky floorboards.

Location was great. Everyone was friendly. Ease of access.

The cottage was warm and cosy, well equipped, and clean.

It was plenty big enough for four adults. The pub which served good food was 5 minutes walk and we found plenty of nearby places to visit in the car. Would return for another visit but maybe when the weather is better. The owners were friendly and helpful.

Everything you could ask for and more. Cottage was lovely and perfect for 2 couples (and a large dog). The meet and greet session by Carl & Tracey was a nice touch and would definitely go back...if allowed!!

The cottage was lovely, had everything you needed. An added bonus was the 3 acre paddock to let him out early morning and late at night as there is no garden suitable for the dog. Excellent location for the peak district, fabulous walks within 15-20 minute drive.

There are beautiful paddocks for enjoying and walking the dog and sitting in - a really nice addition to the cottage which was much appreciated.

The broadband being advertised was slower than dial up and kept dropping out.

the advert did not mention this. The floorboards in the front bedroom were so loud you had to turn the television up when someone was in the bedroom. First aid box missing Elastoplast. Must admit I still enjoyed the stsyy

The owners are very helpful and enthusiastic about their cottages and the area in which they are situated.

We had a welcome pack which far exceeded any which we have had at other cottages. Not only did we have a loaf of bread but also 4 pints of milk as well as a packet of Jammie dodgers. We went to the local pub on Monday night and found that there was a quiz night on . We were invited to take part ,and we still felt welcome ,even though we declined. The atmosphere in the pub was very cheerful .The cottage is well equipped and everything was in good working order. It is definitely on our shortlist when we return to the area.

Good communication. Welcome pack is an added bonus. Ability to walk in 2 private meadows is another plus point. All in all a very enjoyable stay and - Yes - the weather helped !! Wifi worked OK but no phone signal in cottage - a bonus ??? however signal outside if necessary

The owners were helpful telling us about various places/events that were available to visit when we were staying in the area.

Delightful cottage and delightful village.

For guests with dogs this is deal. Despite going during lambing season the fact that there is private land without livestock in which to walk the dog is a huge bonus. It's plenty big enough for a short interim exercise time or a ball throwing game. The local pub is also dog friendly. Walking through deepdale is wonderful but appropriate walking boots with ankle support would be required due to areas of very rocky ground. Don't try it with shoes! The cottage is very comfortable, clean and of a nice size. If I was absolutely forced to make criticism it would be that there were no tongues to turn the bacon and sausages. The fact that that's the worst thing I can come up with surely shows how perfect it was .... a fork does the job! Thank you to Carl and Tracey for the opportunity to enjoy our stay so much in Chelmorton.

Hosts/ owners very helpful and informative about the village/ pub walks etc and what to do around the nearby areas.

Even came early in the morning to remove the snow on the paths outside the cottage. Very comfortable and cosy cottage with great fields for dog walking .

Where to start?

"The Beast from the East" hit whilst we were here with EVERY road blocked. Carl & Tracey came round with extra supplies of milk and bread to ensure we were ok. The local pub (The Church) has decent pub food, excellent ale & wine and friendly staff. Try the Monday pub quiz...but you'll need to bring your general knowledge A game. For a simple lunch nip up the road to the Book Shop & Cafe...BEST coffee in the area and outstanding home baked cakes. Our Labradoodle also recommends the "reserved" meadows for some crazy figure of 8 exercise.

A lovely comfortable, clean and cosy cottage.

Everything provided. We even had snow which was an added bonus as we had our grandson with us. The field for walking the dog was great we were able to have a snowball fight and made a snowman such fun.

Comfortable cottage in an ideal location for exploring this scenic area.

Easy access to Buxton and Bakewell and close to the Mondial trail for walkers/cyclists. The enclosed paddock adjacent to the property was ideal to exercise our dog.

Apart from the fab location an excellent local pub 5 minutes walk from the cottage.

Lovely spacious and cosy cottage.

We only had a long weekend and wish we had longer to explore the local area. It was great meeting the hosts on Friday evening - lots of tips and local knowledge - we will need to come back to do everything suggested!

On the whole a very warm and comfortable cottage, situated in a peaceful village conveniently located for visiting the many attractions of the Peak District.

Lovely comfortable cottage, very well equipped.

Local pub does delicious food and was very welcoming. Enjoyed the quiz on Monday.

Tracey and Carl held a welcome party for all visitors and gave us lots of information about the surrounding area and some history, an excellent start to the week.

The cottage is clean, well equipped and very cosy. The beds are very comfortable and having 2 en-suites makes life so easy. The village is beautiful, an appearance of a bygone age, with friendly locals who are glad to welcome holidaymakers. We had a slight problem which Carl dealt with very quickly, despite it being after midnight! A wonderful week away home from home. You will enjoy!!

A very comfortable and spacious barn conversion in a lovely village.

The owners gave us a wine reception on Friday eve, and gave an interesting talk about the area. Would like to try out the other adjoining cottages in the future also.
