Oakland Cottage

We really enjoyed our stay at Oakland Cottage, we were met by the owner who was very friendly and helpful.

The cottage was clean and very comfortable with fresh flowers and a lovely sponge cake on the dining table for us. We sat outside in the beautiful garden a couple of times, the flowers and hanging baskets were so pretty. I would recommend this cottage if you want a few days away from the hustle and bustle of life.

We had a lovely time at Oakland Cottage.

The accommodation was really comfortable and we had everything we needed. The host Jan was very friendly and thoughtful providing flowers and a cake to welcome us! The cottage is well placed to visit areas of outstanding natural beauty in the Shropshire Hills and near to the medieval town Ludlow. We particularly enjoyed a Sunday roast at the Taly Ho Inn nearby. We would love to visit that area again and stay at Oakland Cottage.

A wonderful house.

Excellent country side. Perfection!

After a slight delay in finding the cottage, we were very pleased with the accommodation.

It was warm and welcoming and fitted to a high quality. There were 2 fine bathrooms and bedrooms, a wwll stocked kitchen and a cosy lounge. It was very quiet and secluded access allowed us to relax whilst there. All in all a lovely house and thanks to the host for the cake left to welcome us.

We really enjoyed our stay at Oakland Cottage, it is a lovely cottage.

Been in lots of Sykes accomodation and this was one of the best. Couldn`t really fault it. A very tasty cake was there on our arrival. Quite rural, the nearest town is around four miles away. Highly recommended.

A lovely spacious cottage ideally located for exploring the Shropshire Hills and wider area and offering everything one could wish for.

Indeed, a cottage that is difficult to drag oneself away from in the morning but only too happy to return to at the end of the day!! Many thanks to Jan, the lovely owner, for a super stay.

Freshly cut flowers on the table and a lovely Victoria Sponge awaited our arrival.

Everywhere was immaculate and the cottage garden was full of colourful flowers. Superb!

Maybe the cleanest property we've ever stayed in, facilities as stated.

The kitchen had almost everything one could need, and the other rooms were very comfortable.. The courtyard was a lovely private space, full of flowers beautifully tended. Parking easy, although a very long estate car might be harder. On a so-called main road, but very quiet even at night, and central to South Shropshire, so ideal for us.

A beautiful cottage in a quiet village location.

Well equipped kitchen, everything really clean and recently modernized. 2 large bedrooms and bathrooms. Good communication with owners. We stayed for Christmas and it was really cosy. Strongly recommend.

The sign to the cottage at the bottom of the lane was difficult to see from the main road until you had turned into the lane, suggest moving it towards the main road end.

We were disappointed to find that from what we could see all the local pubs were closed or only open certain days though we never found them open. The cottage itself was comfortable and the cake was very welcome (but only 1 toilet roll in each of the bathrooms). The photo of the frontage of the cottage on the website was very deceptive and showed the parking area to be bigger than it actually is with little room to manoeuvre and we found the gravel path down to the entrance because it is on a slope to be slippy and possibly unsafe especially for elderly people.

The Cottage was next to the owners house.

It was built to a very high standard and well equipped.it was very quiet and the owners very friendly. We were impressed with the quality of the place and there were 3 excellent pubs within 3 miles. Definitely a place to consider.

We loved our stay at Oakland.

The property was very clean, modern and comfortable. Only very small issue the Wi-Fi had quite a weak signal. Thank you for a lovely holiday.

A lovely spacious cottage with excellent facilities.

A warm welcome from Jan the property owner and a very nice cake, milk and vase of flowers as a welcome gift. The kitchen was particularly well equipped with quality utensils and plenty of crockery. Two bathrooms are a bonus and the heating is very user friendly and efficient with plenty of hot water. A house up to the high standards we have come to expect of a Sykes cottage but this one seemed just a slight bit better still with nice small touches like nightlights in the hall and stair area. A place I feel would be as good in winter as in summer in a very nice quiet location.

clean and tidy - dishwasher worked fine for us.

Wi-Fi is intermittent although the Smart TV seemed to have no problems. The hot water temperature upstairs varied a lot .It would run hot quickly and then scaldingly hot and then go cold. Quite dangerous in shower. Beware dog poo in the parking area. The local pub in the description is no longer a pub. This has happened to us three years running at different cottages.

Jan was very helpful when we needed more house supplies.

The property needs TV and oven instructions. Also outside cushions and a small table would have been useful.

Beautiful small property in a great location and the welcoming flowers were a lovely start to our holiday.

The photos and description on the website, must have been from some years ago, as there is no view from the outdoor balcony- now obscured by high level trees and bushes. The dishwasher, whilst it functioned and dishwasher tabs had been provided, was totally ineffective on any of the programs, and most dishes needed to be washed by hand afterwards. The WiFi was almost non existent throughout the property with the only decent signal being in the main bedroom. Very unfortunate, as despite not using my phone massively, I ended up having to purchase additional data from my provider. The above didn’t spoil any of the holiday and we even had some lovely weather.

Great week staying at the cottage for the third time.

It’s so well placed for many places. My sister and I visited Church Stretton , Leominster and many more places. The cottage has everything you need, well equipped and very clean. Jan was great as always. We will be back.

An amazing cottage, very cosy, warm when needed, feels like a home away from home.

Very, very clean. Bed sheets fresh & crisp, comfortable beds. Well equipped kitchen, comfortable dining table with an incredible fresh flower arrangement in a vase -you really can’t stop admiring. Welcome cake was yummy! Thank you Jan! The cottage is very close to the hike routes in Shropshire Hills. Mobile signal and wifi were a little weak, though we managed to work around it. Overall, great place for a restful holiday! Would 100% recommend.

A perfect place to stay.

Beautifully clean and very comfortable beds. Beautiful linens and really nice kitchen appliances, etc. We were welcomed by our host with a Victoria Sponge cake and a lovely vase of flowers. Responses were immediate to any questions. And the area is a beautiful part of the country to explore.

The cottage is perfect for getting to lots of places. We visited Shrewsbury, Church Stretton , Ludlow , Leominster and Hereford. There are lots of National Trust properties around too. So for us it was just a great place to stay. I am sure we will be back for our third visit soon.

This is a gem of a cottage, tucked away in beautiful setting with views over the owner’s lovely garden to the hills beyond.

It is spacious, very clean and finished to the highest standard. There are lots of special touches such as the bone china country mugs. The bed was very comfortable and we were given lots of fluffy towels to use. I could move in tomorrow!! We appreciated the welcome flowers, cake and milk which was very kind of the friendly owner, Jan. We enjoyed days out at Bishop’s Castle and recommend the Castle Hotel there for excellent meals; Clun for the Caractacus gift shop and a walk up to the forest; Ludlow on a market day; Shrewsbury for a wander round the riverside and shopping; Stokesey Castle and Much Wenlock Abbey (both English Heritage sites) for an interesting look at local history; long walks at the Stiperstones, the Long Mynd and Wenlock Edge. We also enjoyed coffee and cake at Berry’s, down a side alley in Church Stretton and the Kaboodle gift shop there too. Our favourite place is the tearoom and craft shop visitor centre (closed on Mondays) at The Bog, near which you can park and walk up to the Stiperstones. We would love to return to Oakland Cottage for a future holiday.

We had a lovely stay at Oakland cottage the cottage was as described there is a nice private garden area with beautiful hanging baskets which we presume Janni must water at some point but we were never disturbed at all .

Could do with better directions to the property as we found it difficult to find.

We rang Janet who was very helpful. Also instructions for how to use washing machine, oven, and tv. Again rang Janet who came to our rescue for the washing machine as we'd already been on holiday in Wales for a week and needed to do some washing. It's a lovely property and thank you for the lovely cake and milk Janet much appreciated.

We had a very good stay at Oakland Cottage, it was very clean and cozy and very well equipped.

Beds were very comfortable and lovely fluffy towels. Courtyard so relaxing to come back to amongst beautiful flower display. Owner very helpful and welcome pack a bonus. Lovely area for exploring Shropshire hillls.

A perfect spot for visiting many attractions, beautiful Stokesay Castle a few minutes down the road, we also visited ironbridge and the Dorothy Clive Gardens, which we thoroughly enjoyed. A perfect stay for two couples in beautiful surroundings.

The cottage was great, super clean with lovely decor. Excellent location for exploring the Ludlow area. Loved the outdoor seating area. Welcome items were a nice touch.

The property was as good as we hoped, although patchy WiFi was a little frustrating for our 5 year old! The house was wonderfully clean, the two bathrooms and bedrooms had a great set up. ! Everything was perfect for the four of us (two couples) Beds were comfortable, bathrooms worked well and the kitchen was well equipped for cooking meals. Loved our stay!

Fantastic week spent at this lovely cottage.

Very clean with good equipment if you want to eat in. Beds extremely comfortable with lots of room and wardrobe space. Liked the balcony perfect at the end of the day as the sun is there with a view out across the fields. Jan, the owner was there if needed but not intrusive at all. Cottage perfectly placed to visit many places like Ludlow , Church Stretton and Much Wenlock. West Midlands Safari park a great day out. So much to see. Good walking country with great pubs. We look forward to returning.

This was a very convenient location for beautiful walks.

The cottage was modern and spacious enough for a small family. It was exceptionally clean, with everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. The outside space (gravelled courtyard-type garden) would be wonderful in the summer. The owner who lives next door was to hand if needed, but totally unobtrusive. We would definitely recommend this cottage.

The owner lives next door and was helpful and welcoming, but did not intrude. Nice to arrive to find a Victoria Sponge as well as tea, coffee and milk. We liked the quiet location and enjoyed local walks to Diddlebury village and along the footpaths across the fields. The cottage is well placed to visit the Long Mynd, Wenlock Edge and many other places. And we saw the owl!

We had a lovely week in this cottage.

It is exceptionally clean and had everything we needed. Cottage is in a quiet location, but all amenities are within 8 miles. Choice of pubs to eat out. We particularly recommend The Feathers at Brockton Lots of lovely walks in beautiful countryside. We will definitely return!

On our arrival Jan met us at the property and explained everything about the cottage, also having left us a vase of fresh cut flowers, milk and a gorgeous sponge cake.

. Large kitchen/diner, comfortable lounge area,,, spacious bedrooms with plenty storage units. Outdoor seating to the south facing rear of the property with balcony seating adjoining a bedroom.Ideally situated for visitng Ludlow, Ironbridge,Bridgnorth, Bishops Castle and our favourite Much Wenlock. Arguably the best Sykes accomodation we have enjoyed visiting. Also colourful adjoining gardens belonging to the main house. This has nothing to do with the review, but visit the Sun Inn a mile down the road, sample Normans home brews and faboulous steaks.

Oakland cottage is beautiful and very well equipped.

The owner has taken great care to ensure an enjoyable stay including a lovely welcome with tea, coffee cake and flowers. The cottage is well placed in a quiet location but easy to drive to bigger towns and local attractions. We would certainly visit again.

A peaceful and relaxing holiday in an immaculate well equipped cottage.

We have just returned home from a fantastic stay at Oakland Cottage.

The cottage is all you could ask for and more. It was spotlessly clean, extremely comfortable, beautifully furnished throughout and everything you could want or need was provided and all of the very highest quality. The sitting out area was perfect to relax in with its amazing tubs of plants and flowers and the location is ideally situated for visiting many places of interest in the beautiful surrounding countryside. Our thanks must go to Jan and John for doing all they could to make sure that we had a lovely holiday. We definitely hope to return one day.

The cottage was spotlessly clean and very well equipped with modern fixtures and fittings.

Additionally this cottage was ideally located for a lot of the local attractions would stay there again if visiting this area again.

Oakland Cottage is set in a beautiful Shropshire village.

We were greeted with sponge cake and flowers and ample tea and coffee. We would have welcomed a couple more mugs and did look for egg cups, but couldn’t find any. Otherwise the kitchen was well equipped. The bedrooms were lovely with extremely comfortable beds and beautiful bed linen. Bathrooms were spotlessly clean and were furnished with beautiful soft, fluffy, white towels. The sitting room was light and airy with an electric, wood effect fire and two sofas. On a very personal note I didn’t find the sofa comfortable but my husband and two friends were fine. Plenty of local information and two good pubs - The Swan and Crown - within a couple of miles. I would recommend this lovely cottage with its delightful, sheltered patio with table, chairs and BBQ. Our expectation of Sykes is high, hence I have said ‘met expectations’. We have always been well served by Sykes and we We’re not disappointed on this occasion.

Oakland cottage was beautifully furnished and fitted.

Jan and John were excellent hosts and made us most welcome. Walking from the cottage is very good, just put your boots on and go. The Shropshire Way and Wenlock Edge are close, as are the Clee Hills. We had a lovely time, thank you Jan and John.

Oakland Cottage was absolutely wonderful.

It was so clean and comfortable and Jan and John had thought of everything you needed. The beds and pillows were so comfortable and everything provided was of excellent quality. The verandah was lovely for an early evening drink and the garden lovely for breakfast or BBQ or just sitting and relaxing. We could not fault this cottage in any way. It was well placed to visit lots of places of interest and wonderful countryside. I would happily go back again to this lovely cottage and recommend it to anyone. We have travelled throughout the UK staying in some beautiful cottages and I believe that this would be in the top 3 at least.

It is absolutely immaculate throughout and has everything you could need. Despite the fact it is very close to a road you cannot hear the traffic at all, and is only about 4 miles from Craven Arms and not far from the wonderful Ludlow. When we return to Shropshire this will be our first choice for a cottage.

Jan and her husband were fabulous hosts.

They welcomed us when we arrived and were available if we had any questions. The cottage has everything that is required. Very quite location but central enough to visit all the key sites in Shropshire. Property is finished extremely well and we really enjoy our stay.
