Manor Barn Cottage

A lovely cottage in a great location, the perfect base for exploring the local area with easy access to local beauty spots and attractions, plus many beautiful walks from the door!

We made use of the village amenities, enjoyed good food at the pub, a well stocked shop and even a milk vending machine at the farm. Our children loved the play area too. The cottage was comfortable and clean, comfy beds and a hot shower are always welcome at the end of the day, and it was nice to sit outside in the peaceful garden in the afternoon sun!

This is a beautiful property in a lovely little village.

It was very clean and comfortable and had everything we needed as a family of 4. A travel cot and highchair were provided for us The kitchen was well appointed with and Andrea and Richard left a generous gift for our arrival. The beds were comfortable and the shower was nice and hot. The Crispin pub at the bottom of the drive is a lovely quiet pub with a great beer garden. We couldn’t hear anything from the pub when we were in the property which we were pleased about with small children with early bedtimes. We would definitely look at rebooking this property in the future!

Quiet location with walks on the doorstep and only a short drive to the towns of Bakewell, Buxton and Matlock. Pubs with good food within a few minutes walk. The cottage was very comfortable and had everything you need for a comfortable stay would recommend and would definitely book again if returning to the area .

This was our second stay at Manor Barn.

The cottage, itself, is lovely. It’s clean, warm, beautifully furnished and full of character. The owners, Andrea and Richard, are very thoughtful. They left us a nice bottle of wine as a welcome gift and there was fresh milk in the fridge which was much appreciated. They also contacted us by email to ensure the heating was sufficient and to check that everything was ok. Manor Barn is located near the centre of the village of Great Longstone, but sits in a quiet private spot with its own little garden, perfect for sitting out with a glass of wine if you’re in the mood. The village, itself, is just about perfect, three traditional pubs a short walk away, a church, local store and an array of lovely houses all built from local stone. There are some wonderful walks, all leading from the doorstep so it was nice to be able to spend a few days with no driving. Both Bakewell and Buxton are just a short drive away as are several historic sites worth visiting, including Chatsworth House (don’t forget to check out Chatsworth farm shop) and Haddon Hall. Still a lot we haven’t done (walks, and places of interest) so, hopefully, we will return.

Lovely location,just a few niggles.

No hand towel or wiping up towels in the kitchen.Hob was not cleaned. No lock on toilet door,which could be embarrassing for four of us sharing .No charging point up stairs for phones.No fire proof glove for opening the Wood Burner door. Dishwasher was not working at all. The Crispin pub was amazing food,which was next door. Despite that we did have a very enjoyable time.

Comfortable cosy cottage, log burner lovely.

Good food in all village pubs, and peaceful location. Radiators are pre programmed and could be a bit warmer in the mornings. We reported some difficulties with the bathroom door at the start of our stay however this was not attended to until after our check out. Otherwise, an enjoyable stay.

The cottage was well equipped, clean and very comfortable.

It is situated ideally for walking. We never needed the car. Set in a beautiful area. Plenty of pubs and places to eat. We had a really lovely week. The sunshine was an added bonus.

We had a lovely stay at Manor Barn Cottage in late November 2025.

The cottage was very clean and comfortable and well situated close to a couple of nice pubs which served good food. In particular The White Lion was lovely, very friendly people, great service and excellent food. The cottage was tucked away for a nice quiet stay but within a short driving distance to lots of lovely villages. Overall a really lovely stay and the owners checked in with us to ensure there were no issues which was a nice touch. The owners communication was outstanding prior to our stay, messaging us with specific directions which again was above a beyond

Our first stay at manor barn cottage and already looking to book again for next year.

Cottage is clean and comfortable and its location is ideal. After a day of walking we looked forward to returning to the cottage. A great cottage and location.

This was our second visit to Manor Barn Cottage, and we found it to be just as comfortable as last time.

The accommodation is suitable for us, and it had everything we needed. Communication with Andrea, the owner was excellent, both before our visit, with directions to the cottage, and during our visit to ensure we had settled in. It is particularly pleasing when an owner asks if the cottage is warm enough for us, as she is able to increase the temperature remotely. We very much enjoyed our time at Manor Barn Cottage

We enjoyed our stay but just some points we felt needed addressing.

It would benefit from a bit of spruce up. Leak under sink which didn't smell very nice. Oven needed cleaning .Sheets on bed were stained and pillow protectors very yellow . Regards

We had a really enjoyable stay at the cottage.

It is in a lovely area & the Monsal trail & Thornbridge Hall are within walking distance. It is near to The Crispen pub for nice meals. Would definitely recommend.

The property was clean and felt homely in its furnishings. It had everything we needed in the kitchen, bathroom and bedrooms! Beautiful location and countryside. The owners seemed very nice and were great with communication. They checked in with us via email to make sure everything was ok which was a lovely gesture. The super king bed option is ideal for us. The cottage is beautiful, clean and very quiet. Our 2nd stay and we will definitely book again.

On arrival it was lovely and warm, and clean. The decor and furniture was of a higher quality than we have had before in a rental property. The bed was also very comfortable with good quality linen. The kitchen was very well equipped, with everything we needed. We had no reason to change the heating settings on the radiators during our visit. The owners have made the cottage very homely, and comfortable.

We had a wonderful stay, it's in the perfect location for exploring the peaks with footpaths just a short walk away.

The only downside was the cottage was a little chilly, but it is a stone building. Beds are comfortable plenty of hot water well equipped kitchen. Complementary bottle of wine was appreciated. As was a few apples my children picked from the garden for a crumble. The pub next door has amazing food too when we didn't feel like cooking and surprisingly we didn't hear anything even being so close. We would definitely stay again.

Lovely cottage in great location.

Great Longstone is a very pretty village with two very good pubs that do nice food. The Monsal trail can be accessed from the village and offers some beautiful walks. The cottage itself had everything we needed (there were 3 of us 2 adults and a 12 year old). The bathroom is modern and has a good walk in shower. The cottage is nicely decorated and well equipped. It was hot weather when we visited but the cottage stayed cool downstairs which was nice to come back to. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again we had a lovely holiday at Manor Barn Cottage.

Description is very accurate and the owners provide a pack of useful local information. Good sized bathroom with shower, plenty of towels etc. and detailed instructions provided for hot water. Bedrooms roomy with comfortable beds and chest of drawers etc. for storage. Excellent wood burner in the living/dining room with very comfortable lounge & chairs. Wonderful location in a beautiful village, well placed for historic houses close by. Would definitely stay again.

Were concerned when we found the cottage was directly behind a pub, but it was so very quiet, thankfully.

Direct contact from cleaning company and owner, including a courtesy check the first morning, were very useful, especially when we had a problem at the property. The owner dealt with it immediately and efficiently. The cottage is comfortable and has everything you need. In our view it would be a bit of a squash with four adults. One chair and a sofa in the lounge and a rather small shower room. We had a very enjoyable stay.

The cottage was very clean, tastefully decorated, comfortable with a well equipped kitchen. There was the added bonus of the cottage being located behind a very quiet pub for a leisurely stroll for dinner . The village location was perfect with lots of places to visit in the area.

A beautifully decorated, detached barn cottage located in the centre of a quiet village, with a large parking space for one car.

Even though it is situated behind the pub it is very quiet. The cottage is ideally placed for walks joining the Monsal Trail and the surrounding area. Communication from the owners was excellent and they did their very best to make sure everything was okay. The beds are very comfy and the rooms are large. The bathroom had a strong shower and looked modern. Our only negative was that the cottage did feel cold despite the warm weather and the owners putting on the radiators morning and evening (which you could override to manual) but once we got the hang of lighting the wood fire we were cosy. It was lovely and clean and even had communication from the cleaners which was unusual. Would I stay again? Yes if in the area.

Couldn’t have wished for a better place to stay in the Peak District. The cottage itself was so comfortable and the beds were super comfy. It was so peaceful and quiet sat in the garden listening to the birds singing . Very tranquil even though the cottage was situated next to a pub. The village of Great Longstone itself is a delight with two pubs but in close proximity to other great places to visit in the Peaks. We would definitely return if we are in the area and would definitely recommend to anybody wanting a peaceful holiday .

We have been to Derbyshire many times would say this was one of the best we have stayed in . A big plus it’s near Monsel head lovely walk down to the valley or enjoy the views

Really pretty, calming décor. We really enjoyed our week away in the cottage. Perfect for walks and cosy evenings around the fire. The wine was a lovely touch on arrival. We truly appreciated the generosity of the owners when the snow delayed our departure! Thanks again!

Visiting nearby places. The Crispin inn next door is a great pub friendly with good beer and food. The cottage is beautiful and very well appointed, we were really comfortable and cosy, particularly with the log burner. We will be back at some point.

Lovely quiet location in comfortable cottage, just where we wanted to be.

Owner very warm, welcoming, generous and helpful both before and during our stay and re minor fridge glitches. Appreciated heating being on when we arrived.

The cottage felt a little cold, and a full length curtain for the glass door in the lounge might have helped.

Other than that, it was a lovely cottage, very quiet and an ideal base for us.

Perfect little place to explore the Peak District from - beautiful setting and finished to a high standard.

Great area. We appreciated the courtesy email from the owners when we arrived checking all was ok, which it was. Great, cosy cottage, well appointed, very fresh with new decor and furniture, and it had everything we needed. We mentioned that larger towels would be nice, and the owner said they would add bigger ones. All in all a lovely break, great location. We had been concerned being quite close to the pub but its a pretty quiet village pub and we barely noticed it. Very peaceful. Would visit again.

We loved the cottage, it was the perfect size for us, in a great location and everything was nicely presented.

We had an issue with the shower not working but the owner was great in sorting it out ASAP.
