What guests are saying
When you book accommodation you expect as a minimum to have a comfortable bed to sleep in.
The mattresses at Howard's Hideaway are so thin and poorly made the springs dig into your body. On closer inspection we discovered they are the cheapest essentials range from B&M. Not appropriate for a property you are renting out as a holiday let in our opinion. There are numerous comments on the lumpy mattresses over the last two seasons yet they have not been changed. It was so bad we left a night early and would have left after the first night had we not been meeting family in Manchester. The fact the accommodation is almost opposite a church with bells that chime every 15 minutes through the night did nothing to help make this a place you can actually sleep in. I was in pain and exhausted by then end of our stay, so disappointed.
We stayed 4 nights at Howard's Hideaway and it was perfect for what we needed.
However I'd read the reviews so went prepared with my own fish slice so we could have fried eggs! The flat itself is lovely, it was just the attention to detail that lets it down. We slept in the back bedroom so we weren't bothered by the church bells. I put my teenage son in the front because he could sleep through fireworks and not wake up. Beware though the boiler is in the back bedroom and that can be noisy. I read the reviews about the (dis)comfort of the mattresses and pillows and thought people were being unnecessarily nitpicky, but it is unfortunately true. However as a place to get away for a few days and explore the Peak District it was great. The living room was very comfy for relaxing after being out walking all day, and the dog bowls provided was a nice touch. Saved unpacking ours (and potentially leaving them behind!) Would recommend, just take your own fish slice!
Great Venue for up to 4 people.
We had a great time. The place was lovely, but we recommend that you update the economy mattresses, and add more cutlery and pots and pans to the kitchen.
