The Cow Shed

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our week’s stay at the Cow Shed.

The property is superbly appointed and is situated amongst stunning scenery with many points of interest nearby. The owner was friendly and informative without being intrusive. The Fleece pub located directly opposite serves fantastic meals. We ate there three times and would wholeheartedly recommend the food and the welcome there. We already looking to book our next stay at the Cow Shed,

Second time visiting property and this time booked the Hayloft property also for daughter and boyfriend.

Accommodation is fabulous so comfy, wood left for fire too. Appreciated the welcome package. Great shower and very comfy beds. Plenty of walks in the area even came across a waterfall. Pub opposite does great food and breakfasts. Very clean and everything you could need. Would definitely return again.

We had a wonderful week staying at the Cow Shed.

Catherine and Sam were so welcoming and easy to chat to. The property is clean, stylish and well equipped and felt very comfortable and homely. We had a few delicious meals across the road at The Fleece. There are some lovely walks nearby and we visited the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Wentworth Castle Gardens and Leeds. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property. Thank you Catherine and Sam.

5miles from the very picturesque village of Holmfirth. Right in the middle of the pennine and trans pennine way. The owner met us with the keys and was v.friendly.The accommodation is beautifully renovated and pristine throughout. Kitchen has everything you need,though the fleece pub opposite does food and even has an award winning sandwich shop attached! Had a wonderful time only wished we had stayed longer!

Really impressed with the accommodation the facilities were great and the bed was very comfortable, everything you needed was provided for in the kitchen, a short walk up the drive was a lovely pub and restaurant, next door was the pantry where you could buy pies and ice-cream would definitely recommend a stay here it was well worth it.

We have just returned from a lovely stay at the gorgeous Cow Shed, which is located in a peaceful little village.

The property is spacious, very comfortable with great decor and a stunning view from the kitchen window. Our host was incredibly friendly, welcoming and helpful, which made our stay even more enjoyable. There’s a pub directly opposite the property, which was a real bonus and we enjoyed a couple of delicious meals there and loved having such a great option right on the doorstep. The location is also ideal for getting out and exploring the surrounding area. We visited Holme Moss, which had absolutely amazing views, as well as Slaithwaite for a walk along the canal and a mooch around the shops. Langsett is also nearby and well worth a visit for a walk around the woods and reservoir. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would happily return. A lovely property in a peaceful setting, a welcoming host and plenty to explore nearby, which was everything we could have hoped for from a Yorkshire getaway. Thank you for making us feel so welcome and we hope to visit again.

Beautifully appointed, comfortable.

Perfect situation across the road from a very good pub and lovely walks from your doorstep. We did not use our car for a week. On a frequent bus route. Accomodating owner on site. One of our top holiday stays and we hope to revisit.

Very nice spacious property.

Convenient location for exploring both the Peak District and South Yorkshire. Seats and bed were comfortable. A bit more storage in the bedroom would have been good for excess cushions, bedding and towels. What would have been a good addition for us (well in to our 70s) is a non-slip shower mat as I found the lovely shower slippery when wet. All equipment was good and worked well.

We stayed here for a week in July.

On walking into the cow shed we were immediately impressed with the accommodation; it was spacious, comfortable, and clean. The TV was fantastic, the kitchen very well equipped and tastefully put together. Little touches like the bird book and binoculars at the kitchen window. Games and books in the living room and a radio in the bedroom were great additions. The outside space and views were very peaceful and pleasant. Katherine and her husband were extremely helpful and knowledgeable, warm and friendly.

Beautifully converted and very comfortable, especially during a heatwave when it was nice and cool inside.

The kitchen is great although there isn’t much by way of cooking utensils etc for anyone wishing to self cater. It’s great to be so close to the pub which serves amazing meals. Pity about the busy road but you can’t have everything. It was great to have private parking right outside the building. The internet wasn’t working when we arrived but the owners responded straight away when we contacted them.

The property more than met our expectations with clean and comfortable well-equipped rooms.

We had a great holiday at the Cow Shed.

It was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed. The bed was comfortable and the shower large with plenty of hot water. The owner lives close by and was very welcoming. Situated in the small village of Holme it has an hourly bus service to the town of Holmfirth where you could pick up buses that could take you further afield to larger towns such as Huddersfield. The village has an excellent pub with a restaurant. The meals were delicious. We wouldn’t hesitate in recommending The Cow Shed.

Fantastic place and location.

Everything we needed for a relaxing few days. Walks from the door and added bonus of a pub across the road and bus stop two minutes away.

Its clean and comfortable with everything you need, A great retreat for a relaxing get away. It has all amenities close by and some great pubs for food . Plenty to see in a short drive or walk.

We had a lovely week staying at The Cow Shed, very cosy to come back too after a day exploring and doing some of the walks in the area.

The owner was very welcoming and kind to leave milk in the fridge also a welcome basket of Easter chocolate treats and coffee. We enjoyed our weeks holiday and would love to return.

I can't fault this accommodation in any way.

It is thoughtfully and tastefully decorated, furnished and fitted out. Nothing seemed too much trouble and all questions were answered and dealt with. From the comfy settees, the fleece wraps and the log fire, down to the binoculars on the windowsill, the tea & coffee and flowers on the table it was so well thought out.

Great accommodation in a beautiful location. Everything you would need, spotlessly clean and a friendly,welcoming host. The pub just across the road is such a bonus, friendly and with great food. Also lots of other great eating options in the local area. Beautiful walks and drives on your doorstep. I couldn't think of a better place to spend sometime.

The Cow Shed is a lovely conversion in a great location.

It was clean and well equipped throughout. Plenty of space and wonderful views. The log burner was a much needed and welcomed addition during our stay as we had the pleasure of snow to completely change the scenery. A great location with plenty to see and do within the area including walks from the cottage. We ate in the Fleece Inn a couple of times during our stay. Lovely meals and friendly staff. Would highly recommend a stay in The Cow Shed.

The cottage was comfortable, well equipped and with the log burner up and running was warm and cosy. Located in stunning surroundings with breathtaking views, perfect for exploring and enjoying a good walk The Fleece Inn was also very welcoming, Pie Night was delicious! Catherine was very helpful and welcoming- the perfect host!

Everything you needed and extremely clean. Just a mile away in Holmfirth are plenty of shops to look around and supermarkets for any groceries. Across from The Cow Shed is a great pub The Fleece Inn excellent food and also the Pantry beside it does light takeaways if you don't fancy cooking. Catherine was extremely helpful and had a shower stool and shower mat in shower as I told her my husband has mobility issues so thank you. An excellent place to stay if you are walkers with lots of trails to do. We will definitely be back. Granville.

The Cow Shed is a wonderful antidote and place to relax, perfectly situated opposite The Fleece where we had a couple of thoroughly pleasant meals with great service.

Catherine is a great host and The Cow Shed is tastefully decorated, cosy and well equipped and offers all you could possibly need on a holiday. We loved the kitchen barn door which we had open for most of our stay as it allows for wonderful countryside views. We enjoyed a walk from Holmfirth, Sheveling Vineyard, Lyme NT, scenic driving and walking around Digley Reservoir. Catherine deserves much success with her holiday accommodation business. Lovely charming place with plenty of character.

The stone floors and spacious living area were particular highlights. The owner Catherine is very friendly and I cannot recommend this enough.

The Cowshed is a beautifully converted barn in the charming village of Holme close to the Last of the Summer Wine town of Holmfirth.

The property is spacious and very well appointed. For the cooler months it is equipped both with underfloor heating beneath a magnificent flagstone floor and a log burning stove. The view from the kitchen is spectacular. There are wonderful walks from the door and a popular pub with a small village shop sits just across the road. The friendly owners are close to hand if needed. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and were rather sorry to leave.

Absolutely fantastic retreat, fabulous location for walking straight from the door.

The views simply amazing. The Cow Shed was cosy, comfortable and felt just like home (if only we could of packed it up and taken it back home with us). Catherine the host was a wonderful lady, the welcome pack a lovely touch along with hand lotion. The Fleece pub right on the doorstep too, what a treat, the "Thursday Pie Night" mega. Will definitely recommend to my extended family, they are always looking for the perfect hideaway to switch off and unwind, and obviously all washed down with delicious Yorkshire Tea. A very enjoyable stay - I highly recommend The Cow Shed for anyone who is either a keen walker or just wanting a break!

The accommodation is maintained to a high standard, very clean and comfortable. The kitchen and lounge are larger than usual for a one bedroom and this gives a nice feeling of space. Parking is easy and Holme is on a number of walking routes - we hiked every day right from the front door! Christine is very welcoming and friendly. The Fleece pub is across the road and very welcoming - great for a pint after a hike and pie night on Thursdays are not to be missed - good value! We will stay here again.

Everything we needed to make the stay feel like home from home was available. A nice welcome pack to help us get settled after our journey. Plenty of walks near by to keep us active and we took advantage of a nice pub literally at the end of the path. Would highly recommend staying here, we would certainly come back :)

The Cow Shed exceeded our expectations.

It was spacious, well maintained and comfortable. Due to the excellent heating system, it was always warm. The shower was fantastic and the kitchen well equipped. A lovely cottage in a fabulous area for walking - I can thoroughly recommend The Cow Shed as a perfect place to stay.

We had a really lovely new years break here.

The Cow shed was really warm and cosy with the under floor heating, the log burner was an extra luxury. The accommodation was well equipped and in a fantastic position for lovely walks directly from the front door. The pub across the road had a great atmosphere and the food was fantastic. Our hosts were readily available and helpful if we needed them.

This was a great little find.

The property was clean and spacious and had a very relaxing & peaceful feel about it. Very peaceful whatever time of the day it is. There is a bus service that goes to town which only takes about 15 mins. There is a pub at the top of the drive that is very homely too. The basket of goodies was an added bonus that went down a treat. The owner lives on the main site and is on hand to sort any little issues out and to point you in the right direction should you want to explore the local area. Thank you for a wonderful stay in your home we would love to return.

Our 2nd time at the Cow Shed and it was just as good as our first.

The barn has been converted into a stylish comfortable holiday home. The owners have thought of literally everything you could need, and also provide a lovely welcome hamper. Great shower, very comfortable bed, and plenty of room. By far the biggest place we have stayed that's just for 2.

Booked the Cow shed for my Mum and her husband so they could visit us, lovely place, very well equipped and a great renovation, we wanted to stay there!

Gorgeous location, which we already knew, Catherine was a great host, very amenable and patient! Even provided some gravy granules for their tea one night!

The cottage was an excellent find .

Clean , very tastefully decorated ( my taste!) , good facilities and very welcoming hosts. Nothing was too much for Catherine and Sam . View from the kitchen was stunning and the welcome tray a nice touch . The only minor issue was that advert says all ground floor and there were three steps up to the bedroom . Fortunately this wasn’t too much of a problem but a wheelchair user would have had an issue . Unfortunately Holmfirth was not very disabled friendly … narrow pavements with cars/wheelie bins obstructing any form of scooter and mobility aids. Many of the arts venues and exhibitions ( it was Arts festival week ) were not accessible but that didn’t stop us from viewing the ones that were . We met some lovely people , particularly at the Fleece Inn which was just across the road . Excellent food and friendly staff . The Yorkshire Sculpture Park hired Trampers which was a great help and Cannon Hall Park was totally accessible . We’d go back again .

The property was spacious, spotless and stunning! The perfect base for exploring the local area, and rest of The Peak District. Gorgeous views from the property and surrounding areas nearby. The property was very well equipped and had everything we needed, the welcome goodies were a lovely extra too. The owner was very welcoming, and was there for us if we needed anything at all. The Fleece Inn across the road is very welcoming and do brilliant food, with extremely hearty portions. It is directly opposite the property, and also has a lovely little shop on the side for basic bits and the best sausage rolls and pork pies for picnics. We cannot recommend this property enough, and we will definitely be back in the future! Thank you for a lovely stay!

It was a lovely week away.

The cottage itself is very cosy and has been furnished and decorated to a high standard . There’s a beautiful view from the kitchen, watching the wildlife and weather move in . It’s very close to the local pub , which is about 20 metres from the cottage . They serve very healthy portions of food. There are some beautiful walks nearby to enjoy . It was a pleasure to visit . Look forward to returning one day soon .

A lovely place to stay in this part of Yorkshire.

The cottage was homely and comfortable, and Catherine was very friendly and welcoming. Delightful pub , the Fleece Inn, directly opposite, which was a big bonus. Will not hesitate to return sometime in the future.

We love this place.

The accommodation, plenty of walks direct from the door and the pub/shop opposite are fabulous. We have stayed here several times and found it ideal for a weekend, short break or longer. It is stunning accommodation, the welcome pack makes the start of the holiday feel so special. The host Catherine is fabulous, with such a friendly welcome and available via mobile or in person if you need anything.

We were warmly met on arrival and shown the accommodation which was really really lovely; beautifully furnished - we enjoyed relaxing on the comfortable sofas tat the end of a long walk.

Property was warm and also has a log burner to use if desired but it was so cosy, even in March, we didn't need it. The kitchen was well equipped and included lots of crockery and cutlery. The location was perfect for us with loads of walks right from the accommodation. Holme has very few facilities - though would highly recommend The Fleece Inn opposite the property - but Holmfirth is a short drive away where there's loads of cafes and restaurants. We'll definitely be returning to the Cow Shed; it was fab!

Well equipped, ideal location opposite The Fleece pub, which serves take away as well as in-house dining. Catherine was a great host. She was friendly, welcoming and helpful throughout our week long stay.

Re the kitchen Could use a couple of baking trays - 2 sizes.

The property was outstandingly clean, comfortable and spacious. The location for walking in the Peak District was second to none, and for access to one of the best pubs around (The Fleece Inn). Owners were more than hospitable, very accessible, and extremely friendly and helpful. We would not hesitate to return.

Great Location in a lovely small village.

Very nice meeting of the Property owner and the showing of the property. All Amenities there and very nice and clean and what was needed for a chilled break. Lovely property.

Lovely accommodation in idyllic surroundings.

Even though we had rain on more days than not, it did not dampen our spirits and we had a totally relaxing break. Catherine was very helpful and the basket of Yorkshire goodies was a lovely touch.

A wonderful stay for our anniversary/baby moon with plenty of local walks, quirky pubs and beautiful drives.

Catherine was very welcoming and hospitable on our arrival and departure but gave us some very welcomed alone time throughout the week. A couple of short (2-3hour)walks from the door step were easy yet still beautiful and really enjoyable and it was a treat to come back to the wood burner, very powerful shower and star gazing in the back garden. Some of the market towns were a little disappointing with regards to market days but still lots of lovely independent shops and cafes to explore. Our favourite visits were Lady Bower Reservoir (worth spending more than 2 hours there and plenty of parking for free.... Dont pay in the car parks) Longshaw National Trust (most beautiful walk was the pink trail) and Pie night at The Fleece Inn... the pies were quality! A couple of minor adjustments to The Cow Shed would have made our stay the perfect break include a shelf in the shower, a step for the toilet, the dishwasher secured to the wall and a new log basket.

This is a beautifully designed cottage for two, cosy, comfortable, clean, and well presented, in an exceptionally picturesque village, surrounded by gorgeous countryside.

Lovely friendly owners, with a cute bearded collie called Olive, who will say hello to you when she sees you, but doesn’t bother you at all. Couldn’t be any closer to the village pub, The Fleece. We would definitely recommend, and return to this cottage.

A lovely cottage, in a good location.

Lots of little thoughtful gestures, well equipped and really comfortable. Although the cottage is just off a main road, it is very quiet. The view from the rear windows is quite beautiful. Location is very convenient for lots of attractions. We definitely will be back for a longer stay, four nights was not enough! Many thanks to Catherine for her welcome and help during a power cut!!

Absolutely perfect stay as always, a true gem of relaxation and calm.

Having stayed before we decided it would be great to book both the cow shed and hayloft as we were holidaying with my sister in law & her husband.

We were able the eat together and socialise in the cow shed & still had our own spaces to sleep in. It worked very well for us all. Catherine & her family were very welcoming and the welcome pack was great. Fleece pub which is across the road served great food and a friendly welcome. Great walks from the door across beautiful countryside and plenty to do in the surrounding area. Would recommend the National coal mining museum for an interesting day out. (Closed on Monday & Tuesday). Would stay here again.

We stayed in the Cow Barn, while family members stayed in the Hay Loft.

This worked really well for us, as we could gather in the Cow Shed for meals, yet have our own privacy with separate accommodations. The Cow Shed was very well appointed, great for access to the pub across the road, as well as access to walking trails right out the door. We loved the goodies left in the cottage, and also made use of the Fleece Pantry for bacon rolls! Overall a fantastic place to stay that we would highly recommend.

It is such a boon to have (a) beautiful scenery and (b) a nice pub on your doorstep. Add to that a lovely host and things could not really get any better.

Great property and suburb host.

Wonderful sweeping view from kitchen and little garden, so snug and warm inside. So much effort has been put into the property an absolute joy to visit. The pub is very temptingly placed just over the road - we took advantage of their bacon butties.

Perfect get away, great area for walks from the door even in the rain.... Holmfirth is 10 mins down the road and has a great array of small shops to browse. Do try Holme Coffee House in Holmfirth...great vibe, great food, great coffee and great customer service! Highly recommend the Cow Shed...you wont be disappointed..Thanks Sam and Catherine for the warm welcome and the welcome hamper...much appreciated. we shall be back early summer

This is a little gem of a cottage situated in a small village where, with no uplighting, the skies are full of stars.

You can walk from the front door into the surrounding countryside. The cottage is warm, comfortable (especially the bed) and the bedding, linens and towels are of quality. Great powerful shower and great, equipped kitchen. I would add one request which is to provide a Pyrex casserole dish with a lid to maximise use of the microwave. The cottage is spacious and has nice decor and home comforts. An enjoyable winter stay with welcoming and friendly hosts, who had decorated the cottage with nice additions for the winter season.

Such a lovely place to stay. My husband and I loved it so much we didn't want to come home. The old barn has been converted beautifully with lots of love and attention to detail. We arrived to a lovely welcome pack of goodies and milk in the fridge. We had forgotten our milk so that was an extra blessing! Catherine the owner greeted us with a warm welcome and the keys for the property. Fantastic location with beautiful views from the kitchen window. The property is set just off the road that runs through the village but is very quite. There is a gastro pub opposite the entrance gate to the property which for some may sound off putting but don't be. It is a very quite pub and if you didn't know it was there you would hear nothing. Fantastic walks from the door for all levels of walkers.There is a collection of walks in the back of a welcome folder amongst other useful information. The small town of Holme is a 10 minute drive away and well worth a visit. It is very pretty with lots of lovely little quirky shops and cafes. Highly recommend a stay here... we will be back ❤

The accommodation was spacious and the owners very friendly.

Parking off road was easy with a space allocated for my car. The view from the windows was beautiful. The location is ideal for many different pursuits. The "last of the summer wine" tour from Holmfirth is worth the £10 per person for information about the local area and the program. A bus runs an hourly service from Holme through Holmfirth (where buses to many other area can be boarded) into Huddersfield. The terminus is a short walk on the left from the accommodation entrance.

Very nice property good sized rooms one or two little niggles but nothing that dramatically spoilt our experience, ie we found lounge quite dark during the day always had to have table lamps on, and my husband being disabled found the back door steps impossible to negotiate, without there being a handrail to them.

But other than that it was a nice property in a nice area. The friendly local pub across the road was handy for the odd meal. And the owners were both friendly and helpful.

The owners were friendly and pointed out walks from the doorstep. They were only next door and easily available if needed. Great pub opposite with good food. We would certainly not hesitate to stay here again.

We loved staying in this beautiful barn conversion.

It was warm and welcoming and set in an ideal location for exploring the Peak District and further afield into West Yorkshire.

We had a very nice stay, the property exceeded our expectations and I would recomend it to anyone wishing a quiet relaxing holiday break.

A lovely stay at the Cow Shed.

The cottage was absolutely beautiful with everything we needed. A great location - with lots of scenic walks right from the door. A great way to start the New Year!

The property itself was stunning and I would happily return.

The conversion was clearly carried out with love and attention to detail and felt comfy yet luxurious. The host was very helpful and responsive and could not do more to help when asked. Great location for either a stay in break or for getting out and about on walks/visiting local villages and towns. The location of the pub (The Fleece) directly over the road was an absolute bonus - great atmosphere, food and service - would definitely recommend. On a less positive note, ahead of our stay (5weeks and 5days to be precise), I contacted Sykes due to a change in circumstances. They were less then helpful, were not factual about the terms and conditions and pretty much gave me a "tough luck" attitude. Whilst I would recommend the property, I would think twice about booking via Sykes again.

Such a great property!

We loved our stay at the Cowshed. It was so comfortable with great heating and the log burner which we loved using in the evenings! It was great a space for the two of us and all the towels and throws just felt fresh, washed and snuggly. The bed was possibly the most comfortable bed we have stayed in! Catherine was on hand to help with anything we needed and also asked us for advice on any additions to the property. We managed to do several walks straight from the front door - so many lovely reservoirs to walk around and then on our sunny day we did the trip to Mam Tor which was just amazing! A great walk to the Pickled Pheasant with some really great food on the menu. Then further into Holmfirth to Bloc for coffee and cake which was delicious on our rainy day! All in all the property and owners were perfect! We 100% would like to book again and go back to see the scenery in some of the warmer months maybe! Thanks again Catherine and Sam.

My partner and I had the best stay here - our days were spent pottering around the beautiful local walks and our evenings were either cosying up by the fire or in the lovely local pub.

We felt comfortable and at home, so couldn’t recommend this cottage more. To note, there is no washing machine, which wasn’t an issue for us but worthwhile bearing in mind when considering this property.

Catherine the host was very welcoming - as were the rest of her family that I met during my stay. The location/scenery are outstanding in my view. Good pub just across the road. I had the benefit of glorious weather but I'm sure this location would be outstanding whatever the weather!

Beautifully restored building warm and cosy the owners live on site and are very helpful.

Ideal location for walking holiday

Great Cottage situated in a lovely location at the bottom of a valley (the drive up and over the hill lovely).

Host was very amenable and helpful and provided a lovely welcome pack upon arrival. Pub opposite does lovely pub grub but can get very busy at times especially weekends (so booking advised). Recommend doing walks around local reservoirs which all have beautiful surroundings and different levels of difficulty regarding route etc (host provides details of routes in welcome book). Recommend the Catch fish restaurant in Holmbridge. Nearby Holmfirth (where Last of Summer Wine filmed) is good for a few hours walk and has some nice places to eat and drink: Sid's Café for breakfast was very nice and the Nook - local brewery - does lovely beers (staff at both very friendly).

Really enjoyed staying in The Cow Shed - it offers great space with first rate facilities.

It's very relaxing and although it is opposite a pub it is very quiet (the pub has only a few tables outside anyway). There are some good walks nearby but it is located within handy driving distance of Sheffield and Manchester. The owners are in the building next door and they were really friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this property if you want a peaceful getaway!

Absolutely beautiful location being able to walk numerous trails from the accommodation.

The property is outstanding , beautifully furnished and with everything that you could need. We would highly recommend a stay .

The hosts were perfect.

The property was perfect. It was beautiful, well furnished and warm. This little gem will not disappoint. The bonus was that it was opposite a gourmet pub, so easy to enjoy a glass of wine before bed! This was a perfect place to come tour merely relax, or, to use as a base to walk on the breathe taking surrounding peaks from. Ideal in every way.

The cottage was beautifully renovated, comfortable and at the same time was both cosy and airy with lots of space just for two. Lovely views from the outdoor space with plenty of walks on the doorstep - and great pub across the road serving hearty fare …. What more could you wish for from a short break! Highly recommended

Amazing place with a lovely welcoming host.

Very high standard of fittings with all your needs catered for. The cow theme was very cleverly incorporated into the decor. Don't worry, nothing wacky just little touches like some pictures, a footstool and dressing gowns. The view from the kitchen window put a smile on my face every morning when I got up. I don't know how accessible it would be in winter as Holme Moss is high up but it would be gorgeously cosy here, as well as glorious for walking in summer. There was a lovely welcome hamper which was all Yorkshire themed which just reflects how much thought the hosts have put into their property. I just wish we could have stayed longer.
