  • "We had a lovely week in Holmfirth."

The cottage was very comfortable and well equipped and we can only say ideal for us. This is a cottage which we will have no hesitation in booking again.

  • "Everything anyone could need, in it's right place!"

This cottage is a delight: comfortable, light, well appointed (quiet and private / handy location), spotlessly clean and impeccably cared for. The owners really looked after us, with little extras e.g. milk, fruit, chocolate / sweets and flowers. Rattle Row is recommended without reservation and in the highest possible terms. A home from home!

We parked in the nearby council car parks, which was absolutely fine with spaces always available (although there was a little competition for the smaller car parks during events at the Picturedrome). Would definitely book again, and would thoroughly recommend Beatties for lunch!

Lots of nice touches too like flowers, fruit , chocolates and fresh milk in the fridge for a lovely cuppa when we arrived. Parking can be awkward but we managed to find somewhere to park each evening (there are public car parks reasonably close by)and a steep climb up from the town might not be to everyone’s liking but all in all we had a lovely stay.

  • "12 Rattle Row was a wonderful place to spend our week's holiday."

The property was full of character, beautifully decorated and very thoughtfully organised and equipped. The view across the town was lovely and it was a great base for exploring and walking in the north of the Peak district and also making the trip to Haworth to the Bronte Museum.

  • "Super clean, fresh flowers and fruit and absolutely everything you could possibly need, even down to having two types of pillows to use - one for people who sleep on their side and one for people who sleep on their backs."

We've stayed in Holmfirth a few times a year for 21 years now and stayed in some nice places. Rattle Row isn't nice. It's perfect, and as long as it's available we won't stay anywhere else from now on. It's not just us that love it - the visitors book is full of nothing but praise from previous visitors. Just one minute from the town centre and marvellous views across the valley and also from Holme Moss at the head of the valley down to Castle Hill - a view stretching some eight miles. Who needs two tele's (yes, there's one in the bedroom too) with views like that. See you next year Vicki.

  • "The cottage gave us a fantastic stay, and is cozy and well equipped."

Vicki was great at communicating and we had no problems. Minor point, a bit more info on the listing would be beneficial (newer tv, hair dryer etc), but nothing major. The blind in the bedroom could do with a firmer fixing - I think another guest mentioned this in the visitor's book. Overall an excellent stay, one of our favourites.

  • "We had a wonderful stay at 12 Rattle Row."

The cottage had everything we needed. Vicki the owner was readily available to contact should we have had any questions or issues. The cottage was beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable. 12 Rattle Row is perfect for a romantic getaway in the beautiful setting of Holmfirth. We took time to visit Bakewell, Matlock, Huddersfield and Sheffield from our base at Holmfirth but there was much more to explore. The only issue was that of parking. It is clearly stated about the lack of parking and it really was survival of the fittest! We found the worry about finding a parking space and negotiating the narrow, steep road to access the cottage were the only negative aspects of our stay.

  • "While we had to end our visit a little early due to circumstances outside of the owners control, the cottage was immaculately clean and well equipped with everything we could have needed."

Was a shame that they had left milk and chocolate for us though as me and my partner are both vegan, something we probably should have mentioned. Holmfirth is a lovely town with plenty of places to visit during the day and evening. It can be a little quite on Monday and Tuesday as everything seems to be closed. But that just means those are good days to get walking on the plethora of local trails.

It was our second visit. The cottage was extremely comfortable and well equipped over three floors with two TVs and it now has Wi Fi too. We felt very at home there. The only slight down side is the steep walk up and down the cobbles and difficulty in parking in the very narrow Back Lane. We parked in Station Road car park less than 5 mins walk away which worked well. For those without a car, the bus station was close by with regular buses to Huddersfield and rural services to many small villages.

It's very close to the town, and it was a pleasure to sit outside watching the world go by in the evening sun with a drink before dinner. The cottage is high up, with a steep climb up uneven steps and cobbles, but we are both able and fit so this was not a problem at all. The front door is behind a gate off the footpath, which gave it a lovely secure, secret garden feel.

  • "This is my first experience using a rental company for a holiday cottage."

Using Sykes was seamless. When I had a question, it was immediately answered which was appreciated. 12 Rattle Row exceeded my expectations. It was comfortable and clean. The owner was very responsive. There were several unexpected extras...the ginger cookies, candy and fruit that were available. There were many pamphlets as to where eat and places to go. The shower was easy to operate (unlike some of the places I have stayed in the UK). The bed was comfortable. I cannot believe how well I slept. The kitchen, which I did not really use for cooking, was fully equipped with a nice stove, refrigerator, coffee maker, microwave, dishes, pots and pans, etc. The view from the terrace and the property windows was breathtaking. The property is about a 2 minute walk from the town center. The only issues some may have is that walking to the property could be an issue if you are not capable of climbing hills or the cobblestones. It is possible to drive as I understand it but parking is limited. There are three floors and the stairs are narrow. The bathroom is on the third floor. I did not find it to be a problem but it helps to be aware of this before renting. If I return to Holmfirth next year this property will be on my list of places to stay. It is a lovely property and fabulous location.

We were extremely happy with the accommodation and all the added 'extras' really impressed us. The info left for guests was most impressive. Unfortunately on the morning we were due to leave, my husband took some things up to the car where he met some workmen who told him the road was about to be closed off for repairs within the next 10 minutes. We then had a mad rush to collect our belongings and leave otherwise, we would have been stuck there for the rest of the day. Hence the reason we didn't have the time to leave a note for the owner. I would not hesitate to recommend this property to friends and family.

About the location

HOLMFIRTH

Peak District National Park 3 miles; Meltham 4 miles

The old traditional Pennine town of Holmfirth is situated in the heart of the beautiful Holme Valley, on the edge of the West Yorkshire Pennines. Made famous by The Last of The Summer Wine TV series, there is more to Holmfirth than Compo and Nora Battye’s stockings! The ‘Picturedrome’, the North of England’s finest live music venue attracts many famous bands and is located right in the centre of the town. The pelotons from the Tour de France 2014 and the Tour de Yorkshire have both been through this quaint Holme Valley town en route to the iconic 524 metre Holme Moss climb two miles away. It is in these hills where cycling’s triple Olympic Medalist Ed Clancy grew up. Holmfirth also has a good public swimming pool and fitness centre, parks and some super shops and restaurants. The people here are friendly, the streets are quaint and the scenery is breathtaking. The Peak District National Park with its moors, dales, forests, lakes and reservoirs is also easily accessible. The Upper Derwent Valley, home to the spectacular Ladybower and Derwent reservoirs, and where the famous 617 ‘Dambusters’ Squadron practiced the audacious bombing raid on the Ruhr valley in 1943, is only a short scenic drive away. Slightly further is Chatsworth, the stately home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, and situated close to the market town of Bakewell, the home of Bakewell Puddings. The Yorkshire Sculpture Park, The National Coal Mining Museum, Wentworth Castle, and the Hepworth Gallery are also within short drives away and well worth a visit. For a spot of culture, Holmfirth has annual festivals with many more attractions that bring visitors back for more; such as the Folk, Arts, and Food & Drink Festivals. Also not to be missed, is Holmfirth Vineyard and Restaurant, where you can book wine tasting tours and enjoy a lovely meal in the restaurant.
