What guests are saying
Location is great, beds comfortable.
However, our overriding impression is that the accommodation needs a deep clean. Whilst the beds and bathrooms were clean, it was difficult to feel totally comfortable when you are looking at multiple cobwebs and dust. The mezzanine glass balcony, which is a big feature of the property, was filthy. Also, there was a dog off the lead (presumably belonging to the owners), that resulted in lots of dog waste in and around the parking area and the green space in the courtyard. If the above could be dealt with, this would be a great property, but in its current state, we would not recommend.
Overall we enjoyed a nice half-term break at Chetwynd Lodge.
First impressions were favourable with nice touches like the fresh flowers and hand soap at each sink, a basket of extra blankets and beautiful antique furniture. Unfortunately, the level of cleanliness/ maintenance was somewhat disappointing with cobwebs dangling from the (admittedly very high) ceilings and light fittings and really dirty decorative bottles above the kitchen cupboards. The toilet seat in the master en-suite is loose, the previous occupant's shower gel was balanced on the shower screen and there is quite a bit of mould in that bathroom too. The downstairs bathroom had a rather unpleasant smell. Two of the beds (en suite rooms) lacked support and dipped in the middle and whilst a large bed in the master suite should have been a luxury, as well as the 'roll together' dip, the duvet was too small and didn't reach the edges of the bed and the pillows were like lumpy pancakes! That said, the layout of the Lodge was good, allowing our group to sit comfortably together. The kitchen was reasonably well equipped (more mugs & small glasses and a bread knife would be good additions!) and the lodge was lovely and warm despite the cold weather. One final comment, which in all fairness was no fault of the venue, is that a flood had closed the road close to the lodge (and diversions were not signposted), it took quite a bit of working out/ trial and error to find an an alternative route, a heads up before arrival with alternative directions would have been appreciated especially by those arriving after dark.
We had a wonderful stay, everything we needed was provided.
What a stunning location, we were able to forget about the “real world” for a couple of days!! The stable conversion is stunning and unique. We especially enjoyed spotting the original features as our horses were staying in the original stables too. Thank you - we will be back next year!
