What guests are saying
The cottage was cosy, clean and comfortable and was well kitted out.
It had everything we needed. Rachel was friendly and welcoming. The cottage was set next to the main farmhouse on the edge of the farmyard. It was a working farm with cows, sheep, lots of dogs and free range goats which were very entertaining. The farm is in a very rural position not far from the hamlet of Wortley where there is a church, cafe, farm shop, grocers and pub which serves lovely meals. We really enjoyed our stay.
Rachel was friendly and helpful.
Unfortunately the washing machine, not so much. Though it is a working farm (with particularly friendly goats) this didn't detract from our enjoyment. The property served our requirements, whilst we were visiting family in the area. Ideally situated for moorland walking, very scenic. Over all very happy with our stay.
Firstly Rachel, who lives in the house next door is a total star.
It seems the previous vacationers managed to break the washing machine - but did not tell anyone. As we had cycling clothes that needed washing we were dismayed to find the machine did not work! Rachel not only did a load of washing (and dried it) for us - but the next day she had a new machine installed. She was wonderful. We understood, from what Rachel said, that it was her sister who is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the cottage - to her I would say the entire place needs a very thorough deep clean. Most of the kitchen surfaces although wiped, were smeared with a greasy residue. The cooker hood button panel was filthy. The bottom of the fridge 1" deep in water and full of bits. Fridge shelves full of bits. Kitchen table dirty. Breadbin greasy on top and grey with engrained dirt, edge of lid full of stuck crumbs. Kitchen bin filthy inside the swing lid and in the bottom of the bin disgusting. Lower cupboards in kitchen smell awfully of damp. Cupboard under sink disgusting. Skirtings filthy. Bathroom light full of flies. Bathroom ceiling paint flaking off in lumps. Odd sock left in a draw in bedroom. Mould around windows and on sills. I have photos. I could say more. Frankly it did not make for a relaxed stay. On the upside the beds were comfy, the water hot and the WiFi great. This is by far the worst Sykes property we have stayed in. If it were possible to give zero stars I would.
