A lovely little cottage with most things needed to enjoy your stay.

As listed this cottage is on a main road and there is no parking directly outside the cottage. Parking is available for one car outside number 12 which is off the road. The area is beautiful and convenient for getting about to orher places of interest. There is also a bus stop outside with buses running daily. The views from the cottage are stunning and its an ideal spot for walkers. The cottage itself is cosy and comfortable. There is no wifi and only one small tv in lounge and a dvd player. The owner has given a lot of thought to the decor in the property and has tried to make it comfortable. I personally found it easier to use the front door ( rather than the back as I have a slight disability) and then wait for a safe break in the traffic to cross the road outside and then cross back over to number 12 to get to my car, as there is no footpath immediately out of the front door. This did not take away the enjoyment of staying at Bea's cottage though and yesterday morning when packing up my car...I quite enjoyed looking out over the fields and taking in the country air and wishing that I could live in such a lovely place .

We arrived at dusk.

Having lived in the area we knew the location of the property. However, having to enter/exit the property from the back was daunting, as there is no house name or number at the back door. Furthermore, there are several steps to negotiate and no lighting (fortunately we had a torch). We booked Beas Cottage on the proximity of it to our family for the Christmas break. I have never been to stay at a holiday let where there were no instructions on how to operate the shower or TV. We also noted the lack of a welcome pack, we had to buy washing-up liquid, kitchen roll and spare toilet roll. Fortunately, we did not need to cook anything more than a slice of toast. We were aware that the owners did not want the heating to be altered, however, we were not prepared for having to sit with our coats and hats on in the evening. The shower, when we found the switch, was a lukewarm drizzle, so out of bounds for us! The small bedroom was very snug, but the bed was very uncomfortable, it was like sleeping on a pile of tin cans, it creaked (I am 9st 7lbs). I tried sleeping in the middle of the bed, but it was well past its useful life and really needs replacing. The light switch in the small bedroom was phasing, and in general the electrics were dodgy to say the least. We did not find a smoke alarm. The front door cannot be locked from the outside! In general, things that would help are door curtains, front and back doors. New mattresses. The ability to boost the heating, it went off early evening! All in all, to summarise, we were cold and uncomfortable. We didn’t complain at the time because it was the Christmas holiday, but we would not recommend this property to others.

We have become regulars at this lovely, clean comfy cottage.

It is in a fantastic location and every time we arrive at Beas it feels like work and stress are a million miles away! It is in a perfect location for climbing Kinder Scout only a short walk across Middle moor located behind Beas and you are on the Snake pass part of the famous 'Kinder Scout trespass walk'. Beas is a perfect choice for outdoor lovers with lots of hiking and mountain bike trails starting a short distance from the cottage. Buxton,Bakewell and the famous Derwent dam are not far to drive for a day out during your stay. Lantern Pike inn is only a 5 minute walk and serves reasonably priced tasty food and there are more great pubs and cafes to choose from a short walk away in Hayfield and Birchvale. Highly recommend this great value cottage in a perfect location!
