Horse Mill Lodge

This was my second visit to Horse Mill Lodge.

I found the accommodation very comfortable and it had all that I needed. ( The only problem I had was when I went for a meal at the Queen's Arms in the village. The service there was not good and it took too long just to take my order. It has certainly put me off going to the pub in the future.)

A friendly welcome, and a very good centre for visiting the area with bus stop within a few yards.

Would happily stay there again.

Beautiful views as an upstairs apartment.

Ideal location between Buxton and Bakewell. Well equipped kitchen for two people, good fridge/ freezer size.

Very comfortable, well thought out holiday accommodation, furnished to a high standard, in a good location between Buxton and Bakewell.

You need to be physically able, there are stairs up to the accommodation and a step up/down to kitchen/dining area. Lovely views, in a rural location. Would recommend and would definitely return again.

Lovely clean accommodation nice big bed and bathroom, only issues for use was the dog smell on the sofas and the lack of garden table and clean chairs over hanging trees could be trimmed.

We had a delightful break at Horse mill lodge, the lodge suited our needs,all on one floor,great views of the surrounding area,a well equipped cottage, Incl dvds,maps,walking guides,2 two seater couches,a comfortable bed,a good shower plenty of hot water a welcome pack and a good host.

Unfortunately only enough wood for the wood burner for 1 night and as we used public transport from the close by bus stop,it was 4 days into our holiday before we could get supplies,we did manage to visit the local pub in the village and had 1 evening meal and a Sunday lunch highly recommended,we also used the bus and went to Macclesfield Buxton and Bakewell. BUT A LOVELY BREAK IN A GREAT COTTAGE

.. perfectly placed for accessing local tourist spots, wonderful walking opportunities and amenities. We forgot to bring basic cooking condiments but there are plenty of supermarkets and two major towns within a 10/15 minutes drive. A well equipped kitchen (including a sieve which we use as a test

Horse mill lodge was spotlessly clean comfortable kitchen well equipped maybe have few more glasses.

The owner Lesley informed us the oven wasn't working not problem for us we eat out & had cooked breakfast used the grill . Beautiful scenery around the house is stunning even though it's very close to A6 the road didn't bother us at night with the window closed. Taddington is lovely small friendly village & has nice pub Queens Arms which we used for one meal good menu . Walked from the house up on the Taddington moor Beautiful views lovely walk plenty of walking in the area from Ashford in the water Baslow & Bakewell. I would recommend this house to family and friends and we would love to come back in the near future Thank you Lesley

A lovely property with everything we needed for our short stay.

We appreciated the milk and shortbread on arrival! There was a spacious open plan living area with a well-equipped kitchen. We loved the real fire; perfect for a cosy evening. We would definitely recommend Horse Mill Lodge! :)

Chairs and bed were very comfortable.

We were pleasantly surprised that the kitchen was very well equipped, including good sharp knives and microwaveable dishes. We have learned to travel with these and other things over the years. The highlight for us were the windows. Lovely views from all of them. I spent a lot of time watching the horse and the unusual blue texel sheep. It was very relaxing.

The owners Mike and Lesley were really friendly and could be contacted easily if needed. The cottage was spotlessly clean and bigger than we expected. It had everything in it that we required for our stay. The bed was comfy and the shower really good. Beautiful views from the lounge window. Taddington is a lovely village in between Bakewell and Buxton. There is a pub within a 10 minute walk that serves great food and most popular places in the area could be reached within a 30 minute drive.

Excellent location just off A6 for exploring.

Returning to this property for our Seventh Holiday over the last few years we are still very impressed with the accommodation, there is everything you could want for your stay.

The property is of a high standard and is kept in very good condition by the owners. We made extra use of the local bus service which runs in close proximity to the property to explore the Peak District not using our car for the whole week. Each Day we returned to the cosy warm accommodation having the added advantage of enjoying lighting the wood burning stove which adds to the charm of the property not as you need to light it as the property is still warm with the central heating the property has. We hope you can tell that we very much enjoyed our stay at this property and will be planning our 8th stay in the future .

We found this apartment to be as described.

It is comfortable, well equipped with plenty of room for 2 to relax. The owner was very welcoming and if we needed them (not that we did) the apartment is an extension to their home so easy to get hold of them. It is situated in a good position for exploring the area being only seconds away from the A6 but you don’t really hear any road traffic noise. The view from the main lounge window over the fields and hills is a good way to start your day. The only slight negative point is there is no access to a washing machine, so if you think you’re going to get muddy every day, bring plenty of clothes. That said I would recommend this place to any of my friends and when back in the area, will check to see if it is available.

What a fantastic short break we had at Horse Mill Lodge.

It was very quiet with lovely views of the countryside. The owners greeted us and said to pop round if we needed anything, but we didn't need to, as Horse Mill Lodge had it all. The kitchen was very well equipped with everything we needed. The bed was so comfy which meant we slept very peacefully. The bathroom was warm and had a lovely hot shower. Horse Mill Lodge was very cosy - especially when the fire was lit. It was a perfect base for our visits to Buxton, Matlock, Ashford-in-the Water & Bakewell. We'd love to come back and see more of the Peak District. Thank you for the shortbread & milk in the fridge when we arrived too. Mick & Lesley are fab hosts and Horse Mill Lodge was one of the most beautiful places we've ever stayed.

The owners, Mick and Leslie was very helpful, & made us feel welcome.

They both just couldn't do enough for us. The beautiful cottage was very cozy, and all the amenities are at a high standard. My wife & I will certainly be using the cottage again.

The property was really nice and very clean, the position is ideal for day trips and was really easy to find, the settie was comfortable the shower hot and the bed firm which made for a great night's sleep.

The only down side for me as I am not a reader was the TV, a smart TV buy locked down that tight you couldn't even get the TV programme guide up unless you had the pin number, it had freeview plus but no wifi connected so only 50% of the channels you would watch, Netflix which is standard now but I could not log into my own account as the TV was not online which was a shame as the property had everything else there is a dvd player inside the TV, but to be fair these days who carries dvds with them, watching Netflix on your phone is a little bit anoying and battery draining, so for me my relaxation is lost in a film so it posed a challenge not so much for my wife who escapes in books.

We had a lovely stay in Horse Mill Lodge.

We had a very warm welcome and helpful advice on cycle routes. Plenty of map's etc for walking and cycling. The property was spotlessly clean and had all we needed for our short stay.(Couldn't get the toaster to work though !!) We enjoyed a meal at the local pub. Buxton was a great place to visit. Thank you Lesley, for having a super place to stay !

Very well maintained cosy property.

Superb views from the room. Position is excellent almost in the middle between Buxton and Matlock. Monsal trail is very near. Mick and Lesley were lovely.

Owners just next door if you have a problem. Ideal place for buxton, bakewell (used the bus from the bus stop at the end of the lane) and the Monsal Trail is nearby. Amazing holiday, we will definitely book here again

For the second year in succession we enjoyed a great stay.

The location is ideal for exploring the area and the facilities of the property are well maintained and comfortable.

Horse mills position is ideal to Buxton, Bakewell and many attractions, fantastic scenery,so many walks.

Truly first class accommodation.

The location and setting with the glorious views was second to none. Lesley and Mick are lovely hosts. Their accommodation is very well laid out, comfortable and with all the facilities you could need. I highly recommend the Queens Arms in the village that serve excellent meals, staff and locals were very friendly. If you are an age qualifying for a buss pass, we are, there is a bus stop yards (metres if you are younger) at the end of the short road. We used it for visits to Buxton, Bakewell, Matlock and the picturest village of Ashford in the Water. You can appreciate the views without driving yourself. We had a fabulous stay and I highly recommend Horse Mill Lodge.

A wonderful place to stay, central to exploring the whole Peak District.

Lovely view across the area from the window. Good pub within walking distance. The owners were available if needed and the shortbread and coffee/tea were perfect on arrival. Comfortable and well equipped.would definitely come back and recommend it to others. Thank you for a great stay.

We enjoyed a quiet week with great views and plenty of walks from the Lodge.

The position and parking were excellent. It was a very muddy, wet week but found plenty of quiet roads to investigate. The village pub provided good food and was very friendly. The lodge was very comfortable with an excellent bed and good facilities for the 3 nights we cooked a meal. A place worth returning to.

The cottage was so welcoming to come into,clean and everything we needed,The tea,milk & biscuits were welcome when we arrived. The cottage is in a lovely location,for walks and visiting other areas.lesley poped to see us ,to check we were OK,thank you ,you made us very welcome.highly recommend.

We loved this holiday property.

The open plan arrangement was perfect; warm, comfortable and convenient with plenty of room. Good, clean, and up to date facilities. Secure car parking off the road and close to the door, so no dragging cases up long paths! There was even a snow shovel by the door so that we could dig ourselves out on the day we left. Thanks! We've been to Horse Mill Lodge 5 or 6 times, and love it.

It's comfortable, warm, private, quiet, close enough to main roads to be accessible in poor weather conditions, has great walking from the doorstep, and a proper pub with good food within easy walking distance ... it's our 'annual retreat' and we think it's simply perfect!

This is a really nice apartment, well situated and very comfortable.

A lovely property in the Peak District very private with beautiful views ideal for visiting a host of top attractions which lie in the area such as Chatsworth Haddon Hall and the Monsal trail.

Definitely recommend this property would certainly use again if staying in this part of the country.

Welcome pack of biscuits, logs and milk were very welcome thank you.

Warm and snug with a fantastic and easy to use log burner. All the things you need in the kitchen. Near to lots of places to visit and to walk. There was 4 inches of snow while I was there and Mick kindly cleared the track so I could drive out to meet friends. All in all a fabulous stay and I highly recommend it as a place to stay.

This property is frankly superb!

The location, the views and the facilities far exceed anywhere else I have ever stayed. The landlords have gone to great lengths to accommodate my needs. I would certainly be happy to recommend Horse Mill Lodge and have in fact already done so to several of my friends! Thank you Mick and Lesley

Had a very nice stay here.

The cottage was lovely. Clean, comfortable, warm and had everything that we needed for our short break. Gorgeous views from the living room window, lovely little village with a great little local pub. Sadly didn't get to meet our host, Lesley, but communicated with her via email for instructions on key collection etc to which she was very quick to respond. Cannot fault this property, would definitely stay again.

Accommodation excellent although near a busy road we didn't hear the traffic . Location very good between Buxton and Bakewell. Shame the outside wasn't much as looking across the fields seeing the sheep would have been lovely. Pasta bowls would have been useful. Would recommend

An ideal location for exploring the Peak District.

The accommodation was first class and the views of the surrounding countryside from the property were a treat to wake up to each morning.

Exactly as listed, very cosy and clean.

Superb location between Buxton and Bakewell. We loved watching the sheep and lambs in the field, very entertaining. Only thing missing in the well equipped kitchen would be pasta bowls but we made do with plates. Local pub has great menu at good prices.

Super place: larger than it looked in the photos, and even more charming!

Clean, contemporary, uncluttered: views "to die for", as they say. Well equipped, and with a very good woodburner. I've stayed in a number of holiday cottages, and I've never found one in which I felt so immediately at home. Fantastic base for walking - plenty of superb walks from the door, and the A6 was easy to cross, as there's a central reservation just where you need it. I had minor reservations about being comparatively close to the main road, but honestly, you could barely hear the cars at all, as the Lodge has perfect modern double glazing. As I said to Lesley, if it had had another room, I would have wanted to buy it!!

I had a wonderful stay.

The views were stunning and the setting was quiet which was just what I needed.The facilities were good and the shower was superb! My only ‘gripe’ was that the fact that the property was upstairs was not obvious enough in the agents advert. This gave me anxiety after I had booked because I have a mobility limitation and I hadn’t realised there were stairs until I ‘read the small print’. However, the stairs were not steep and they were carpeted and had a strong handrail which made things easier for me , plus the proprietor was very kind and offered help if I needed it. All in all a very lovely place to relax - I would definitely recommend it and would like to stay again. Thank you

We had a very relaxing break at Horsemill Lodge.

We can highly recommend it. In a small peaceful village.Wonderful views from the lounge and bedroom of the countryside. The owners live next door and are on hand to help if you need help or recommendation of places to visit. It also has a cosy pub which is only a few minutes walk away. The accommodation is extremely comfortable spacious and very clean. We visited Bakewell, Buxton, Ashbourne which have good market days. Kedleston hall is well worth a visit. There are vast amounts of places to go walking.We have stayed here many times now and will be booking for next year as it is perfect for a relaxing break.

Very pleased with the location, facilities and the property in general.

We couldn't ask for a lovelier view from the bedroom and lounge windows. Even though just off the A6 road there was very little noise. It had everything we needed to make our stay first class.

It was the second time we had stayed at this property, and it didn't disappoint, Lovely area with views, very clean and comfortable.

Great woodburner.

Full central heating. Off road parking New curtains etc and outdoor seating wood gazebo. Superb views Well placed for loads of varied walks direct from the door. Mondsal dale, Deep dale and millars dalle all directly accessible. Easy to get to Bakewell, Hatherage and Hartington by car. Bus service just outside (hourly) Only lacks a washing machine/dryer for longer stays. Owners great and friendly, live alongside if need anything (v helpful) but otherwise self contained.

The accomodation provided was excellent for our needs.

February is not ideal holiday weather but we needed recuperation after an intense period of activity. We were able to park our car and use the trans peak bus for visits to Buxton and Bakewell enjoying views en route even in wet , windy weather. Views from the house when resting and enjoyable walks from the door, contributed to a very enjoyable holiday.

We had a great stay at Horse Mill Lodge over New Year.

The apartment is a very high standard and very comfortable and homely. We were able to do several walks from the front door in this lovely area of the Peak District. The pub in the village is a 10 minute walk along the main street and was very welcoming and offered great service. If we are this area of the Peak District again, we will definitely stay here again.

This was our third stay at Horse Mill Cottage and it feels like a wonderful second home for us!

It simply has everything we need for a good and restful break, every creature comfort, quiet, privacy, attentive owners who check on us when we arrive during heavy snowfall, the welcome touches ... it's so cosy and warm, with lovely views over the fields and hills, an easy to light wood-burner, a pub with excellent food within easy walking distance, great walks from the doorstep. We are already planning our next stay!

I found Horse Mill Lodge had a lovely homely feeling to it.

I was very comfortable and it had great views over the surrounding countryside. There are many footpaths in the immediate area which I took advantage of on several days. It is right by the bus stop for buses to either Bakewell or Buxton.

The accommodation was very well looked after, high quality furniture and fittings.

Tea, coffee, milk and biscuits were very welcome on arrival. We would highly recommend this accommodation. Thank you Lesley and Mick.

Horsemill Lodge is an excellent place to stay.

For a get away from it all relaxing break. We have stayed here many times. It has lovely views. Well equipped,lovely comfortable king size bed,log burner and nice big shower room. Mick and Lesley the owners are next door if you need anything. Lovely friendly hosts. They have a vast amount of knowledge of the area and good recommendations of places to visit or things to do.We have already booked to return again next year.

Our only real feedback would be that there, we feel, should be more than 2 tumblers to drink from.

Maybe it's us but we tend to use 2 in the morning for breakfast then 2 more in the evening for either water or to have a beer. But only having the 2 did mean we were washing dishes/tumblers every day. It should be noted though that this was such a minor point it did not distract from the enjoyment of this property/holiday.

Flat was lovely, well set out and in a great location with not as much noise from the A6 as I'd feared.

If we're being really picky, a couple extra mugs and glasses would have been handy but other than that, it was very well equipped, spacious and had everything we needed.

Easy reach of Bakewell and Buxton - Chatsworth and the lovely Thornbridge Hall with its brewery just in Bakewell!! Friendly owners.. next door if needed... milk and biscuits a nice touch... we hope to return soon.

This was a return visit to Horse Mill Lodge - and we are already planning another visit for 2021!

Need I say more? This cottage is all we could want: comfortable, cosy, warm central heating and a powerful shower, a roaring log fire for romantic evenings in, and all the little details that matter: shortbread and tea pot ready and waiting for our arrival, champagne flutes for fizz, ice cubes for our G&T after a day's great walking direct from the door step, silence and privacy to allow us to properly relax. The A6 is only minutes away, but excellent soundproofing means noise does not intrude. It's our idea of bliss and we can't wait to return!

This is a lovely place to stay, ideally suited for exploring the Buxton / Bakewell area of the Peak District.

Very good value for money, comfortable, well looked after, friendly & helpful onsite owners, Covid compliant, Would stay there again. Upstairs accommodation, access via a staircase that may be a problem for people with mobility issues.

This first floor apartment is very well presented with all the facilities we needed.

It is very useful to have the owners living next door and they gave us a very warm welcome. We are definitely considering going back.

Very comfortable indeed with everything you need in a small but perfect package. Great location as it's right on the main road from Buxton to Bakewell (but quiet too) which makes it about half an hour in all directions for great places to explore. Looking forward to return trip very soon I hope.

Wonderful cottage, exceptionally clean and well equipped.

Comfortable bed, great facilities and a good living space (comfortable and spacious). A lovely secluded location on the edge of the village with beautiful views over the hills and fields. The cottage is very well located either for walks directly from it (with easy access to the Monsel Trail among other walks) or for driving further afield for other walks. It is easy to get to local shops and restaurants (a short drive away). Lesley and Mick could not have been more welcoming and provided helpful hints around the cottage to help us in our stay. Would highly recommend to anybody wanting a break away from the world.

Comfy Sofas, Wood burner and very efficient Central Heating on demand. Allocated Parking Spaces outside the Cottage. Lovely Views although misty at the time of the year were still stunning. Hosts Lesley and Mick were very obliging and left us Milk Tea Coffee and Shortbread Biscuits. We had a lovely 3 Night Stay and will recommend to our friends and family Tracey & John Murphy

Clean and comfortable, ideal for two, we self catered without any issues. Central heating and log burner fitted. Took a couple of days to really warm up with central heating alone but was a particularly cold week. Wifi provided though underlying internet slow. Would certainly consider staying here again.

Property in a very convenient position approximately midway between Buxton an Bakewell, super views over the countryside.

Hosts very helpful regarding pick-up and depositing the keys, and on arrival shown the premises, and how to operate equipment, and location of switches etc. Welcome pack included, tea, coffee, milk, and biscuits. We have had very nice Holiday, and feel that we done very well in our choice of accommodation, Thanks to Lesley and Mick. When we go back to Derbyshire this accommodation would be our first choice if available.

Its the 5th time for us holidaying at this particular property & each time we have enjoyed it immensely .

The accommodation, the area it is in & the owners of the property all combine to make our holiday a very enjoyable experience. Each time we return we find new places to visit new walks to do and generally get to know the place & surroundings better . Returning to this property after our days out exploring is always looked forward to . We find the property very warm & cosy having everything we need to enjoy our stay . The owners must be congratulated on creating such a lovely place to stay in as a holiday home & maintaining it to the highest standard enabling people to have a lovely base for a Peak District holiday . This is definitely a place we will be returning to to carry on our exploring of this wonderful area.

A beautiful, tastefully decorated cottage with all creature comforts in excellent working order: hot showers after our long walks, a central heating system which provided cosy warmth within minutes, a woodburner for a quiet evening in front of the fire, a well-stocked kitchen for those who want to stay in and cook, and great pubs in walking (and easy driving) distance.

It's the little touches and thoughtfulness which make this place so special: the ice-cubes for the G&Ts, the short bread welcoming us on arrival, Lesley's helpful yet unobtrusive hospitality. It's a great base for walkers who want to leave the car at home, with walks starting at the door step, but also a good touring base for those who want to explore the Peak District. We loved this cottage and the area so much, we're already planning our return trip in 2020!

Superb little bolt hole in a excellent location.

10 minutes from Buxton and Bakewell, and on the doorstep of some fantastic walks. Pub around the corner (10 minute walk), which serves food and is very reasonably priced. The lodge was great, with an ample sized bedroom, ensuite and living room/kitchen, with the owners leaving a nice welcome pack of tea/biscuits and wine! We will be recommending this lodge to our friends/family if they want a break to the Peak District - Thank you!

Lovely cottage with beautiful views.

Excellent base for exploring the Peak District. Cottage was very clean and had everything we needed. Lesley and Mick were very welcoming and the tea tray and biscuits was a nice touch.

Horsemill Lodge is an ideal place to stay.

Very quiet. Located next to the owners home. It has it's own private gated parking space. The apartment is of a high standard and is extremely clean and spacious. A large shower room. And very comfortable bed. Lesley and Mick the owners are there if needed but do not intrude and leave you to enjoy your time there. Close to Buxton and Bakewell. Surrounded by beautiful scenery and countryside in a quiet village. Everything you could wish for. We will definitely return next year.

On arrival, we received a very warm welcome which after a long journey was greatly appreciated.

The cottage was warm, exceptionally clean & perfect for our needs as it is situated at the heart of many walks without being remote from amenities. We will certainly be recommending Horse Mill Lodge to family & friends.

The accommodation was clean, very comfortable, spacious and well equipped.

Although it is close to the A6 there was no traffic noise and it was very easy to get to all the places we wanted to visit.

Their apartment is of excellent quality, cleanliness and contains everything inside to have a great , restful time. The apartment is set in a very good location.Different walks from the location are easy to find in some of the best scenery in our country. Buxton, Bakewell and Tideswell within 6 miles . Easy straight forward drive . My wife and I have nothing but praise for Lesley and Mick's endeavours. We have absolutely no complaints. Thank you both.

Lovely cottage, just as it says in the advert, being able to securely store our bikes was a bonus.

We have stayed here 4 times now and each time has been a lovely experience .

The accommodation is in a lovely setting and is a joy to return back to after our days out in the Derbyshire Peak District. We are getting use to the local area and are finding lots of walks on the doorstep of this property . The siting of this property within the Peak District is very central so various landmarks are easy to reach with a short car journey which is nice that you haven't got to be in the car for long treks . Plenty of trails about where you can walk or Bike ride traffic free. The property is certainly a place we will be coming back to it is clean well kept and very comfortable with nice owners who are in the background if you need them .

This holiday home with lovely views of the surrounding countryside from the upper floor accommodation is very well designed to give 1st class living.

Very clean and well equipped and secure. Lesley & Mick did all we needed to be welcoming and left us essentials in the home (like shortbread, tea, coffee, milk etc etc). We arrived to find the surroundings snow covered and even more picturesque then our memories of the Peak District allowed. The next too short days we were exploring the nearby dales and visited villages and views we wish we had more time to enjoy. Horse Mill Lodge was a very cosy cottage with wonderful views (very snowy when we arrived).

It was very well equipped and was always warm, with or without the wood-burning stove going. The welcome was good with tea, coffee, milk and biscuits on arrival which we thought was a nice touch. The bed was very comfortable. We liked the village of Taddington where we received a warm welcome in the local pub, The Queen's Head. It was an ideal base from which to explore Derbyshire.

I really cannot fault Horse Milll Lodge.

It's a really lovely, modern, clean apartment in a fab location. We will definitely be staying again as there is so much to do in the local area. Can't wait to go back!

Horse Mill Lodge is simply the best place we have ever stayed in within the UK.

This was our first Christmas away from home and it exceeded all our expectations. The little touches such as a fibre optic Christmas tree, mince pies and mulled wine all added to our enjoyment. Mick and Lesley gave us a very warm welcome and also gave us ideas for several walks that we could do whilst we were there alongside recommendations for eating out.

Horsemill Lodge is an excellent place to stay.

It is one of the cleanest places we have stayed in. The facilities are first class. Lovely large bathroom and big comfortable bed. The log burner is very cosy to use although not needed as the central heating is adequate and is on at various times throughout the day. Parking is nice and secure in its own space with a gate. Beautiful quiet village close to Buxton and Bakwell and plenty more great places to visit. The owners are really welcoming and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend it as an excellent place to stay.

The place is central to the peak district in the middle of outstanding scenery having beautiful walks on your doorstep. The accommodation itself is very clean modern and very comfortable somewhere we looked forward to returning to after our days out exploring the Derbyshire Peak District. It is certainly accommodation we will holiday in in the future .
