The Lanterns

The Lanterns was ideal for our family with two young kids.

The bedrooms in particular stayed very cool during the heatwave, and the living space was comfortable and big enough to play in. The car charger was easy to use, and it was really convenient to have somewhere to store our bikes and bike trailer. The directions to the property were easy to follow, and the location was a perfect combination of peaceful and close to the town. If we were to stay in Buxton again we would definitely return to The Lanterns.

The Lanterns was a very quiet and peaceful place to stay and within walking distance of all the things going on in Buxton.

The apartment had everything we needed for our stay. The lounge was lovely and spacious and the parking and a garden a bonus.

Lovely apartment in the basement of an old house.

Due to the age of the property it was wonderfully cool in the very hot weather we've been experiencing so we managed to sleep really well. The bed was also extremely comfortable. Great selection of glasses, cutlery and crockery. One thing that was missing was a large pot for boiling pasta. The garden area was a lovely addition too. Shower room could do with some additional shelving but apart from those two small things a good base for exploring the Peak District and Buxton

The lounge, kitchen and bedrooms were very good, but the shower room was very cramped.

It was difficult to move around, and for someone with a larger frame this could be particularly challenging. The modern sink had a sharp corner and there did not appear to be a way of filling it with water, as it drained immediately. Another issue was the dirt track lane leading to the parking space, which was uneven and had a number of potholes. This made access difficult when unloading luggage and reversing out.

This was our second stay at The Lanterns.

It is a lovely (and stylish) apartment in a perfect position. It's very near to walk into Buxton centre (4mins) - but nicely tucked away and really peaceful. The beds are comfortable and we had everything we needed. Buxton itself is great and is ideal as a base for walks and visits in the Peak District.

Very tidy, clean and comfortable accommodation.

Very quiet - up a little unadopted road. Parking is tight but we got two small cars in - Golf size. Ideal for just walking into town which is literallky minutes away as are the. parks, woodlands, Opera House. Nice size bedrooms both very comfortable. Excellent comms with owner too. Would book again. No worries at all about recommending this one.

This property is absolutely delightful.

So clean and comfortable with really comfy beds and cosy lounge. Location is wonderful with pubs, coffee shops and restaurants all within 5 minutes walk of the property. Also the Buxton Opera House is nearby and fantastic to see a show there. The owner, Damian, is so accommodating and always available on the slim chance that you would need to contact him for any reason. Thank you Damian for a wonderful stay and we would not hesitate to return to your property.

We would describe this apartment as a hidden gem - it’s in a quiet area and yet so handy for walking into Buxton with it’s many restaurants, shops and the wonderful Opera House on the doorstep.

The apartment has been really well thought out - well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, light and airy lounge and feels like a little warm and cosy haven to return to. There are numerous scenic walks from the property and it is well placed for visiting many parts of the beautiful Peak District. Damien’s communication was excellent before and during our stay. The welcome goodies were a nice touch. We will definitely return!

This apartment is in a great location just a few minutes walk from the centre of Buxton.

It has off road parking, which was a bonus but there is also plenty of free on street parking nearby. The welcome pack of tea, coffee and cake was really appreciated. The lounge is very comfortable even with 4 adults in the apartment. Overall a good place to stay in Buxton.

The property was better than expected, very spacious, modern and stylish, it all looks like new.

The bed was very comfortable and the heat exchanger kept the flat nice and cool during hot weather. Look for square or round panels as light switches, took us oldies a while to suss that in the kitchen! A perfect base for exploring this scenic and interesting area

It was a real home from home and we'd be happy to stay there again.

A lovely, spacious, comfortable and well-equipped apartment which proved to be a perfect base for visits into Buxton itself (a short walk away) and for walks such as Corbar Woods, Solomon’s Temple, The Serpentine Walk and, of course Pavilion Gardens.

Other places in the Peak Districy were within easy reach by car, bus or train. The on-site EV charger was an extra bonus as was the on-site parking; Damian charged a very reasonable rate for the electricity used to top my car up and responded promptly and politely to a couple of enquiries we made. Buxton provides lots of opportunities to indulge gastronomically and all within a short walk of The Lanterns. Highly recommended.

The apartment is beautifully decorated and has everything needed for a very comfortable holiday base. The living room is particularly light and sunny. Another huge plus for us is that the apartment is in a very quiet part of Buxton but is a very short (less than 5 minutes) walk to the centre. In short, an attractive, convenient and very comfortable place to stay.

The property has everything you could possibly want. The lounge is a nice size with a wood burner, and the bedrooms are fine, but the kitchen and bathroom give a cramped feeling. The parking is a real issue with it only being adequate for a very small car. Overall, it was well worth the money.

Damien’s information pack was incredibly helpful. The apartment’s location was fantastic, just a short walk from Buxton town centre, making it easy to explore the area. A fantastic cottage; an attentive host, comfortable accommodation and wonderfully located for a stroll into Buxton and a short drive beyond into the beautiful Peak District.

Comprehensive property information provided ahead of the stay that contained genuinely useful information. The property owner dealt with a minor maintenance query in a flash. The tea/coffee and cake welcome goodies were much appreciated. There really is very little opportunity for improvement, perhaps only cutting back the overgrowth on the unadopted road leading to the property (including parking) to prevent any unintended scratches to passing vehicles. Thank you for hosting us; I hope to return in the future!

The only thing that is out of place is the drive up from the road, you wonder what you are going to.

Once you arrive at the accommodation it is a very lovely apartment, with all you could wish for, for a great holiday. The pictures although accurate, don’t show the size of the rooms that well. The bonus being the separate kitchen, most have them in the living room these days. Dad (94) and I had a wonderful week here and we would thoroughly recommend. Damian is very helpful and attentive before, during and after your stay, a great host. Thank you for a lovely holiday.

The information pack provided before our stay was really useful.

There were illustrated directions, instructions on accessing the apartment, maps and suggestions about things to do both locally and further afield and instructions on how to use the appliances. The apartment was clean and the owners have clearly thought about their customers needs and comforts. Buxton is a lovely town to explore, and transport links are great- especially the buses. We had a great time! Thank you.

Lovely apartment, nicely furnished and in such a great location.

Parking was a challenge (or should I say getting in and out of the parking space!). Well equipped, and nice welcome pack was appreciated. Shower was very good and beds comfy. We wouldve liked a smart tv so we could binge watch netflix etc.

We found The Lanterns to be very comfortable and well appointed with everything we needed for our stay.

The apartment is very close to the centre of Buxton with easy access to the Pavilion gardens and town centre. Despite the clear arrival instructions it is not the easiest place to find on arrival in the street and a suggestion would be that the small lantern sign at the entry to the lane is a bit more obvious. When we booked originally the information on Sykes stated that bed linen and towels were supplied. I checked this information on various occasions after booking. We then discovered after we had left home a week before our booking that towels being provided was no longer on the Sykes information. Fortunately the owner supplied them for us without any problem and we were very grateful for this. It was easy to contact the owner if necessary.

The apartment is in a very central location and extremely comfortable.

The bedrooms are top class and the living room very spacious. It was great to have a dishwasher and a washing machine. The off street parking is convenient too but a little awkward to park in. After the 2nd or 3rd day I was able to park there without difficulty. The only suggestion I would have is to improve the WiFi in the apartment if possible - it worked well in the living room but not in the bedrooms. Overall the apartment is very comfortable and I will probably rent it again the next time we go to the Peak District. As noted above the apartment is close to the Buxton Brewery Bar, and nice restaurants… Greek, Spanish and Thai.

A comfortable apartment ideal for touring the area Buxton has an abundance of bars and restaurants but also a good location for visiting nearby Yorkshire, Cheshire and Staffordshire.

Very clean and comfortable. Well equipped kitchen. Washer came in handy as backpackers for the week. Sat out a few times in sun trapped garden (when we got any). Bed very cosy. Family business who care about the property and their guests thank you Damian and your Mum, for doing her bit too. Close to shops, the crescent and railway station. Lovely walks and countryside. Glad we choose you cheers.

Property was very clean and tidy. Very well presented, warm, and tastefully furnished. It was quiet at night and we all slept well in comfortable beds. Kitchen was well equipped and the was even storage space for groceries, which is surprisingly uncommon with holiday lets in my experience. We thought the property would benefit from a WiFi booster in the hall as we struggled to connect to the internet in the bedrooms.

You can tell that the owners genuinely care about their product and that you enjoy your stay to the upmost. The location of the property is perfect, just a short peaceful stroll into the hustle and bustle of lovely Buxton and equally a perfect location for anyone visiting the other wonderful delights the Peak District has to offer. Of all of the Syke's properties we have stayed in this is one of the best, if not the best.

Very close to the centre of Buxton. It was very comfortable and clean. The owner was so helpful and welcoming. I came with my octogenarian parents so it was great to have everything on one floor and with handy parking. Highly recommended.

Great apartment - spotlessly clean and well equipped.

The owner provided great instructions and recommendation for places to eat and visit. The boiler tripped one evening but was sorted immediately by the owner. Location was great, just a short walk into Buxton for numerous bars and restaurants. I would definitely recommend

Thsi flat was a good , comfortable base for visiting the Peak District.

It was possible to walk into the centre of Buxton. The car parking space was an advantage, although it was tricky to get into it. We struggled with the induction hob, which was new to us, otherwise the facilities were good. We were disappointed that we were asked to take our own towels. As we were driving on to continue our holiday elsewhere having damp towels in a bin bag was not ideal. Thanks to Damian for "the goodies" and fresh milk on arrival.

The Lanterns was very clean and comfortable, very well equipped for us to have a relaxing and enjoyable week.

The kitchen was nicely laid out though the upper shelves were a bit challenging for the smaller person! Damian had thoughtfully provided folding steps to assist with that. The garden was a lovely peaceful haven even though it is so close to the town centre. All in all a great find which we would happily visit again if in the area.

An excellent property in the middle of Buxton, near amenities.

All things you might need during your stay are there and all is in perfect order. It is a perfect spot to start exploring the Peak District. We are keen on National Trust properties and some are easy to reach and nearby. We had a very pleasant stay!!

Everything we needed was thought of and the notes provided by the owner were comprehensive and very useful. He checked in with us by text to ensure we were happy with everything. The apartment was spotless and quiet and despite cool foggy weather, we always felt cosy, the log burner was used every night. The walk into town is very short, 5 minutes, and we found plenty to do in the town. Buxton is very pretty and especially at this time of year. As we arrived in the dark we struggled a little to locate the key lock, be ready to use a torch! We’d be very happy to return.

The property was very comportable - we didn't want for anything and would definitely consider a return visit. The welcome goodies were well received - needed a cuppa when we arrived! Not the easiest place to find in the dark or manoeuvre out of the parking spot in the dark, but we managed - glad I drive a small car. The location is perfect and walkable to the center of Buxton and many walking trails. The beds and bedding were very comfortable. What really makes this place standout from any other properties we stayed at is the owners attention to detail and generous welcome kit. Welcome kit included local tea cake and coffee as well as two choices of Earl Gray and English breakfast tea. The furniture is so stylish and art displayed on the walls featuring local sites was really nice touch. We really enjoyed outdoor garden seating as well. We will be sure to visit and stay again. A lovely property in the conservation area of the town, convenient for all the amenities.

The kitchen was well stocked with utensils and equipment, beds were very comfortable and the living room was a bright area to spend time in. The owner was very attentive to any needs or requests.

Lovey cosy ground floor apartment in a great location for exploring Buxton.

Slightly quirky layout but has everything you need for a relaxing stay with 2 well laid out bedrooms with lots of storage, a bijou but practical kitchen and a lovely large dual aspect living room with a log burner. Being snowed in flagged that the dvd or hdmi connection lead could do with being replaced - a bit of wiggling a few times did the trick in the end… Close to all amenities with Buxton town centre just at the bottom of the hill. Overall a very enjoyable stay and we look forward to coming back without the 7-8” of snow

The apartment is ideally situated for exploring Buxton and the Peak District more widely.

It is in a quiet, leafy residential area just minutes walk from the town centre. The apartment itself was comfortable, warm, cosy and peaceful; there were no issues with noise from the adjoining flats. The kitchen is small with limited counter space; it was manageable to prepare meals for 2 but would be more awkward for 4. However, the living/dining room is a lovely, light room; it was a pleasure to sit there and relax. Having a private car parking space was a big plus.

Had a great stay at this cottage which is very convenient for central Buxton (shops, restaurants and pubs) and also good for access to walks in the surrounding countryside.

The bedrooms are a good size and comfortable; the bathroom and kitchen and compact and efficient. Central heating is very effective. The living room room is lovely - a double-aspect space, comfortably furnished with a dining table, sofa and chairs and we found the log burning stove very cozy in the cooler autumn evenings.

This is a beautiful ground floor apartment.

It’s really comfortable and warm and well presented. There was a welcome pack of tea, coffee, milk and cake which we very much appreciated after a very long journey. We couldn’t open the key safe on arrival, so upon ringing the owner, he contacted his mother who lives next door and she showed us the knack. She reassured us not to hesitate to ask for any other assistance we might need. The next day I received a text from the owner who hoped we’d settled in and again said to contact him should the need arise. We would really recommend this holiday cottage. It’s just a few minutes walk from the heart of Buxton, which is a really lovely historic spa town with a lot to see and do and an amazing number of good restaurants.

We loved Buxton and the position of The Lanterns was perfect for accessing all the great pubs and restaurants.

Make sure you go to the St Moritz Italian/Swiss restaurant just down the road and The Old Sun Inn pub in the Main Street - the food in both was superb. Lanterns was pretty much perfect for me. The beds are really comfy and the bed linen was high quality. It has a very well equipped kitchen and a beautiful lounge. I shall be back next year.

Property was very well furnished, the beds very comfortable and had made best use of small kitchen space, I struggled to reach the top shelf as not particularly tall, husband could though.

Unable to reach top shelf even with low step provided. Also you needed to put food waste into compostable bags which is fine but no caddy to hold them in so we used a mixing bowl. We would happily stay here again if we visit the area again.

We were so impressed with Buxton and spent more time there than we had planned because there was so much to enjoy. The property was really well situated with everything we needed. We stayed with our two children age 6 and 10 who loved the property. It was lovely and quiet, and nice to also have on-site parking.

Very nice and clean cottage, WiFi was working only in the living room.

Owner of the property said they won’t provide any towels or pillows. Had to speak to sykescottages, finally they agreed to provide pillows. Overall it was a good experience.

The flat was clean and very well equipped, with modern fixtures and fittings. In particular we loved the bright, airy living room, while the beds were far and away the most comfortable we have ever found in holiday accommodation. The owner’s instructions, directions and ideas for walks etc were clear and very much appreciated. Although we had been to the Peak District before, we had never visited Buxton - so it was lovely to get to know the place, and with The Lanterns ideally situated just a short walk from all shops and amenities we were able to enjoy all that this beautiful town has to offer. We were very sad to leave!

Little extras on arrival most appreciated. Buxton was a nice place to walk around and the park well worth a visit. I'd suggest a visit to the NT property at Lyme is well worth it as there is lots to see and its very reasonably priced. The owner was in touch on several occasions and his Mom, who lives next door, checked to make sure everything was OK. If we visited Buxton again I'd be more that happy to use this property again.

Everything was lovely, it was great to have a fire as we don’t have 1 at home.

It was a short walk to the centre with plenty of shops and bars( although some where not open due to only being able to drink outside) The only problem we had was the drive up the lane to the lanterns ,we have a low car and it bottomed out about 3/4 of the way up,although it didn’t damage the car but be aware. But all in all we had a very enjoyable stay

The Lanterns was a perfect base for exploring The Peaks.

The place was very comfortable. We enjoyed the fire in the living room and the owner left some lovely cake, tea and coffee for us to enjoy. Would recommend! The Internet was long avalable in the living room which was not a problem at all but might be useful for other people to know.

The dual aspect living room is particularly nice. The little garden is a sunny, sheltered spot. The owner was extremely helpful.

The location is excellent, situated up a quiet road yet only a short walk to Buxton's main attractions and eateries. Easy parking at the property and it has a lovely little garden with comfortable garden furniture. It had everything we look for in a holiday home and we would definitely stay again.
