  • "Compact & bijou Luna cottage was exactly as described."

    Cleaned to a very good standard. Really good communications with Rachel the owner. The kitchen has everything you need for mealtime cooking. The tv has all apps built in if you want to log into your streaming account. WiFi was speedy. Bed was very comfortable and plenty of storage space in bedroom. Large bath with good overhead shower. Bus routes are quite close. Local area pass £3. Holmfirth is 2km walk away. Uber is approx £5 (£8 with dog) Couple of things to be aware of - the stairs are quite steep for anyone with mobility issues. The front garden is not enclosed if that’s important for the dog, and the car park spaces are on the other side of the (surprisingly very busy) road. None of these were issues for us. I’d happily recommend this cottage.

  • "Perfectly cosy, wonderfully welcoming - Luna Cottage delivers!"

    We chose Luna Cottage for its location — close to friends and family — but it was the style that truly sealed it. Clean, fresh, and uncluttered, it offered the perfect cosy retreat for the two of us and our pooch. Though the front garden wasn’t enclosed, I’d already pictured myself on the front bench, morning coffee in hand, soaking up the quiet. From the start, Rachel (the owner) made everything simple and worry-free. Her thoughtful welcome — freshly picked tomatoes from the garden and coffee pods for my caffeine fix — added a personal touch that made us feel instantly cared for. She’d mentioned a possible disinfectant smell due to the new bath taps. Still, instead, we were greeted by a gentle, spa-like scent from a Vincette London reed diffuser that brought tranquillity throughout our stay. I’ve since ordered one for home. Luna Cottage is bijou — a charming back-to-back one-up-one-down — and it welcomed us with open arms. The open-plan kitchen lounge had everything we needed for our nine days, whether we were cooking HelloFresh meals or grabbing tea from the excellent local chippy. A Co-op just two minutes’ walk away made essentials easy, and larger supermarkets were only a short drive away. When we weren’t visiting friends and family, we relaxed in the cottage, or I caught up on work — the fast internet made that seamless. One of the loveliest touches was the dog-friendly welcome: although we brought our own, a dog bed, bowls, and treats were waiting, which made our pooch feel just as at home. Upstairs, the bedroom was generously sized with plenty of storage and the comfiest bed — a little smaller than our usual king-size, but perfectly cosy. Each morning, opening the curtains to a view of Castle Hill felt like a quiet gift. The bathroom was also a good size, with a beautifully designed sink built over the stairs box — a clever use of space. As someone with a disability, I’d planned and brought a bath board for the shower-over-bath setup, and it worked perfectly, especially with the shower curtain (much easier than a screen). The stairs are a little steep, but the secure railing was a great help. The only minor downside is that parking is in a lay-by opposite, and it’s first-come, first-served, but we always found a space. Booking through Sykes was effortless, and the description was accurate — though the cottage exceeded our expectations. The information pack was a genuinely helpful resource, and Rachel’s contact throughout was spot-on: friendly, responsive, and full of valuable suggestions for days out, without ever being intrusive. All in all, Luna Cottage offered comfort, charm, and thoughtful design — a tranquil base that supported both rest and reconnection.

  • "Had a great short stay at Luna Cottage."

    Had everything we needed, good Wi-Fi, well equipped kitchen area and safe free parking opposite. Brilliant comms with the owner who gave us tips on local walks and places to eat/drink. There is a supermarket and chippy less than a minutes walk away. All in all the property is a great base for a walking holiday and I would definitely recommend it.

  • "The cottage was ideal for a couple of nights stay,it was clean and the bedroom was comfortable."

    However I feel there should be a gate due to the road being very busy and a dog cottage.Also no rear garden wasn't really dog friendly. A freezer and a washing machine would of been helpful as well.The toilet door also stuck at one point which needs addressing.

    Thank you for your feedback. The description of the cottage does advise that there is not an enclosed area for dogs, however you are 2 minutes walk away from beautiful green spaces. There is a small freezer at the top of the fridge. There is no washing machine due to space restrictions and the property is listed as not having one. I do however live close to the property and can offer laundry services for long stays however as your stay was only for 2 nights I didn’t think this appropriate. The toilet door will be addressed and thank you for leaving me a note on this. Property Owner

  • "I had a lovely stay at Luna Cottage with my dog Tess."

    We were very relaxed and well catered for. The only thing that was slightly difficult for a 9 day stay is the lack of washing machine, however we visited the local laundrette and were happy to receive their help. Thanks again Miriam

  • "A great place to stay - I think estate agents would describe it as ‘bijou’!"

    Everything we needed and for once a comfortable bed. Rachel, the proprietor, sent a text part way through our week to check all was OK, which was thoughtful.

  • "Luna Cottage suited me perfectly."

    It's comfortable, well equipped, and clean. The only thing lacking was a washing machine but I can't think where it could be installed without getting in the way. The location was very convenient for walking to Holmfirth and to Honley and it's on the bus route to Huddersfield which is also worth a visit. The local area is pleasant too.

  • "Enjoyed stay, cosy compact cottage but had everything you could need."

    Had small problem was rectified straight away. Had no problems parking across from the cottage. The road going past the cottage is busy at times this I assume is because it's in a residential area. Coop round the corner is very convenient. Had a good holiday and visited family living nearby. Would definitely stay again.

HOLMFIRTH

The old traditional Pennine town of Holmfirth is situated in the heart of the beautiful Holme Valley, on the edge of the West Yorkshire Pennines. Made famous by The Last of The Summer Wine TV series, there is more to Holmfirth than Compo and Nora Batty’s stockings! The ‘Picturedrome’, the North of England’s finest live music venue attracts many famous bands and is located right in the centre of the town. The pelotons from the Tour de France 2014 and the Tour de Yorkshire have both been through this quaint Holme Valley town en route to the iconic 524 metre Holme Moss climb two miles away. It is in these hills where cycling’s triple Olympic Medalist Ed Clancy grew up. Holmfirth also has a good public swimming pool and fitness centre, parks and some super shops and restaurants. The people here are friendly, the streets are quaint and the scenery is breathtaking. The Peak District National Park with its moors, dales, forests, lakes and reservoirs is also easily accessible. The Upper Derwent Valley, home to the spectacular Ladybower and Derwent reservoirs, and where the famous 617 ‘Dambusters’ Squadron practiced the audacious bombing raid on the Ruhr valley in 1943, is only a short scenic drive away. Slightly further is Chatsworth, the stately home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, and situated close to the market town of Bakewell, the home of Bakewell Puddings. The Yorkshire Sculpture Park, The National Coal Mining Museum, Wentworth Castle, and the Hepworth Gallery are also within short drives away and well worth a visit. For a spot of culture, Holmfirth has annual festivals with many more attractions that bring visitors back for more; such as the Folk, Arts, and Food & Drink Festivals. Also not to be missed, is Holmfirth Vineyard and Restaurant, where you can book wine tasting tours and enjoy a lovely meal in the restaurant.
