Fire Brigade Barn

My daughter and I stayed here for a couple of nights as we were attending a wedding at the Hall.

Lovely accommodation, very clean and comfortable and great view of the mill pond right outside the door , full of little fish and ducks waddling around! Lovely big bathroom, bed was very comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped with everything you need . The only negatives were the musty smell that hits you when you first walk in ( it’s an old property so can’t be helped I suppose) and lack of an information booklet about the property. Also I’m sure the very comfortable sofa that my daughter slept on is actually a sofa bed but you are not made aware of this!

Arrived & there was no information folder at all for the property?

! No Parking advice, no indication that the back door was the fire exit only & was greeted sharply by the neighbour that we couldn’t use to get outside! (It should be labelled Fire Exit! ) No information about rubbish, local amenities & emergency contacts. The fridge froze all our food until we adjusted settings. The picture in the lounge was broken! Only half a toilet roll was provided & no local shop information! Very little ventilation downstairs & so smelt very stale. Overall, it looked tired, poorly equipped & lacked basic information. However, it’s in a beautiful location but we would not stay in that property again.

Fire brigade barn was really clean and comfortable.

It had everything we needed. The bed was very comfortable, the bedding and towels really good quality. We enjoyed the large bath and the shower was lovely. The cottage is in a really good position in the village, central to the Hall, tearooms and Tissington trail. It was lovely sitting by the duck pond in the evenings. Oh, and thank you for the bottle of wine!

This was our third stay and once again the property and outlook across the pond are great , Nice touch with bottle of wine and biscuits

A fantastic property in a beautiful location.

I didn’t want to leave!!

Well, we were so looking forward to our stay at the fire brigade barn booked for my husband’s birthday , we got there a tad early and messaged if we could get in , “not yet as the cleaner hasn’t been and still I’m waiting for a response from her” then had another message 15 mins before check in that she had a car problem and he would personally sort it , we still let ourselves in at 4 regardless and was gobsmacked at the grubbiness of certain things , the table chair seats were stained badly, the sill in the kitchen was terrible and had not been cleaned for weeks , the window blind was impossible to operate and the string to alter it was like cheese wire , there was stains on the settee and cushions , the lounge curtains were dreadful, the bottoms near the floor were 2 inch deep in ground in dirt , the whole width , and the walls were dirty with stains and spatter marks near the kitchen , upstairs was ok to be honest apart from the bottom of the shower curtain was dirty in places .

The owner came a while later and was very apologetic and agreed with us the points we raised, we told him we cannot stay given the problems there was and we asked for a refund which he quickly made , he agreed it needed a deep clean and this would be carried out , he did later offer us a weekend free as compensation but we cannot take this up given what’s happened. We were extremely upset that this happened and I’m unsure how it had decent recent reviews , no house is perfect but this was well out of the scope of what you would expect especially for the money being paid to stay here , I hope that it is rectified because it it is in a beautiful setting and the place itself can be gorgeous done right and I hope it will . If I could put pictures I would.

Lovely property to stay in.

Only thing that slightly let it down was some cleanliness issues. Dining table was sticky, some kitchen utensils were dirty and the sofa was a bit grubby and stained. Apart from that, great location and has everything you would need for a comfortable stay. Would stay again!

Great location in the middle of a beautiful village overlooking the duck pond.

Ideal for walking the Tissington Trail which is on the doorstep. Cottage is clean, tidy and well equipped. Will definitely be returning

We had a lovely stay at the cottage.

The location is ideal for numerous walks locally. Although we would rebook the cottage it does have a few maintenance issues that can be easily rectified; furnishings on the ground floor need some attention as some are stained, the main entrance door sticks, so it can be hard to open/close. Also we were unable to access the secure key location box due to pets roaming in the yard; relocation of it would be better.

Lovely, comfortable, clean cottage in a picture postcard setting.

Comfortable bed, comfortable sofa, well equipped kitchen, relaxing hot bath. Enjoyed it so much we’re going to book it again for next year. Good base for exploring the Peak District. Would highly recommend it.

It would be helpful to have a file with some general information and instructions e.

g. oven, central heating times, bins, shop etc A few more pans for use in the oven and microwave bowls. The TV picture needs attention but did not cause any problem. Thank you for over looking the broken mug and plate. We really enjoyed our holiday at FireBrigade Barn ,it is a beautiful setting. Lots of walks and the Tissington trail.

Nice bed and warm heating.

. No cupboard space for own food. Very dark in kitchen. Extractor fan light not working. Could do with a cheap air fryer. 8/10.

Fire brigade barn is an amazing property in the beautiful surroundings of the Tissington estate.

The barn is very comfortable, with all the facilities needed for a great stay. We stayed for two nights over New Year’s Eve and the surroundings were quiet. The local tea room is just around the corner and serves great food and drinks. Will definitely be aiming to stay at the barn again.

Fire Brigade Barn was the perfect place for our wedding anniversary.

It was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed for our stay. Handy for Tissington Hall and the tea rooms which are just around the corner, and Tissington Trail is just a few minutes walk. Dovedale is only a short drive away. Would we stay here again? Definitely!

The property was lovely and in a picturesque location.

It was very peaceful and tranquil there. The property was very comfortable and clean. We could take our dog. The facilities were excellent. Perhaps a grip handle in the bathroom for older people to use - would be helpful.

Fantastic location in Tissington village- with Dove Dale three miles away and Tissington trail on your door step- The property was very clean and cosy, with the kitchen being well equipped.

I found the bed very comfortable and sleep well. The bathroom was very spacious, with a roll top bath and shower over head. If you have poor mobility, this property is not for you. Having a shower is a bit of a faff with the shower curtain. The mixer tap for the shower was slightly leaking as well as the kitchen tap. I think instructions on recycling would be a good addition and a visitor book, for guests to write in, which will give new guests a guide to the surrounding area. I would definitely recommend the Fire Brigade Barn and hopefully we will be back at some point. Thanks.

Taps dripping and Front Door difficult to close. Location is ideal from our perspective and we would stay again next time we are in the area.

Beautiful village location, picture perfect.

Barn itself had everything we needed for a self catering break and was a charming place to stay, hopefully we’ll be back again soon

Perhaps a slip resistant mat for the bath but otherwise the property is lovely

What a lovely place to stay.

Perfect for walking your dog across amazing countryside. So many walks and a cosy please to come back to. Very well equipped and the fire brigade barn has a very peaceful vib.

Didn’t live up to 5 star reviews.

Having paid around £400 for a 2 night stay, we were disappointed and felt ripped off. The kitchen lacked a frying pan, the table was the wrong design for the space, the tap constantly dripped. All easy fixes but we felt the property isn’t being maintained to a high standard. The shower curtain didn’t fit around the bath and was filthy/mouldy. The bedding was thin and cheap. The outside of the property in need of painting.

I’ve just come back from a 5 night stay at fire brigade barn.

It’s such a gorgeous little place to stay, I didn’t want to leave!! The place was spotless on arrival and the bed is comfy. Tissington itself is beautiful, peaceful and relaxing. My only slight moan….. it would be helpful to have some information left regarding where the bins are etc and maybe some info about the area. I had a great stay and my pooch also loved it ;)

Great stay, and a good location.

Our stay at Fire Brigade Barn was relaxing and enjoyable.

We might have been the first in 2023 and the boiler did not work and the sink was blocked, but Chey, the owner, supplied electric heaters and got the boiler fixed the next day. He made a great effort to make us comfortable. I thoroughly recommend the property to anyone looking for a quiet repose and as a base to visit the Peaks.

Idyllic place to stay.

Loved the cottage, very cosy and the shower was a dream after a long walk. Brilliant walks, and the Tissington trail is only 200 yds away, as Is Tissington Hall. Very tranquil village and easy access to other places in the peaks. Will be back next year and hope to go around the hall next time

Parking was a slight issue.

We were told to park in Kindegarten car park but the Headmistress was not best pleased. An alternative would be appreciated. The setting, the ambiance and the comfort was second to none. We would definitely rebook.

The owner is truly amazing, the only issue we had was due to an allergy the owner didn't know about and it got sorted it by text within a few hours.

He didn't have to but he fixed it anyway. The cottage is beautiful, amazing views and good company while sitting outside. Manual for cooker etc found in kitchen drawer, easy find. When an owner goes to this extent its amazing so, we will see you next year as we are booking again soon. Thank you for an amazing holiday in this little piece of Peaks heaven.

The property was good and overlooked the duck pond which was very picturesque.

A few comments that may help future guests - - There was no welcome/information folder. This meant there were - - No instructions on using the oven/grill - No instructions for the TV - No information on household rubbish and recycling plus no rubbish collection day Unfortunately the propane gas cylinder had run out so no hot water on Thursday evening and Friday morning. However, the stay was very enjoyable and my comments are intended to make other guest's stays even more enjoyable.

We loved our short stay at The fire brigade barn.

The only reason it’s not a five star rating across the board is because of the head board on the bed. The design does not allow you to sit in bed and have a morning cuppa or read a book. It is the most uncomfortable design we have ever experienced. Otherwise, everything was perfect.

Could have done with more cupboard space in the kitchen for food storage.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Fire Brigade Barn.

Probably the nicest little cottage we have stayed in. Loved the duck pond in front, provided us with hours of entertainment. Fabulous village. Our only problem was the lack of outside space for our elderly little dog. But this did not spoil our holiday at all.

This is a comfortable, clean and well equipped cottage in a pretty location.

Tissington Hall is however a wedding venue and loud disco music was played on the Friday and Saturday evening until after 11.30 pm. While it might not bother some people, there was no information about start and finish times, and had we known we would not have stayed here. As numerous reviews have pointed out there is no information about what to do with rubbish or recycling (the very nice neighbours helped out) and a small welcome pack of milk etc would be very welcome given the distance to the nearest supermarket.

We enjoyed our slice of country life.

Loved the cottage and the location, with the added bonus of seeing the villagers coming together to set up well dressings.

Fantastic location and outlook - loved it.

No instructions for central heating. I found the controls and eventually got some nice heat and hot water. A few basic kitchen cleaning aids would be nice- sponge, dishcloth etc Kitchen utensils a bit short - e.g. fish slice Parking instructions would help - a bit awkward.

The cottage is well equipped to a very high standard and is warm and cosy.

The location is idyllic, looking over the duck pond in the lovely village of Tissington. Our only concern was that there was no secure outside space in which to let our little dog roam, but this was our fault for failing to study the property description. We would heartily recommend this property to prospective clients.

Fire Brigade Barn was the perfect was the prefect place to explore the stunning Peak District.

A beautifully presented barn with everything you'll need for a holiday exploring the surrounding countryside. You can walk straight out the door and join the Tissignton Trail or out of the village and chose anyone of the many public footpaths up and over the hills. And that bath to enjoy after a long day's walking! We had snow, wind, rain.... but still an amazing outdoorsy holiday with a lovely property to relax and warm up in afterwards.

Very nice cottage and village.

Cottage very clean and nice fittings throughout. A pint if milk in the fridge would have been a nice start but we managed to scrounge some of our very pleasant neighbour!

Spent a lovely week in Tissington.

Fire Brigade Barn was a lovely bolt hole and the owner could not have been more helpful. There was no dripping tap and noisy clock. The lounge area is very dark if you wish to read, but apart from that we could not fault it. A lovely sized property for two people.

The dripping tap in the kitchen needs sorting and the ticking clock also in the kitchen sounds so loud in the night and there’s also a ticking device plugged in the bedroom, please sort these out so you can get to sleep.

The village is beautiful but the lack of sleep made for a tiring weekend not a restful one. Also some information about the village and surrounding area would be good.

The property is in a stunning location and is finished to a good standard with a wonderful bathroom and extremely comfy bed, the only disappointing thing is the dripping tap in the kitchen which is really annoying after a while.

I was hoping after the previous feedback from the last couple of clients that have reported this it would have been fixed. We will book this property again as in such a great location.

Nice property great location a couple of small issues, sofa bed is not great old mattress and quite dirty under there not sure why when you can't check in till 5pm and have to be out by 9am surely enough time to clean under bed also dripping tap which doesn't sound much but kept me awake .

The cottage has been decorated and fitted out well, it is set in a beautiful village and the duck pond out the front is an extra bonus.

The tap in the kitchen drips constantly and can be heard throughout the cottage, rather irritating and a huge waste of water. The bedroom is well fitted out however perhaps have some firmer pillows and an extra blanket in the cupboard for chilly nights. The bathroom has a great bath, just what you need after a long walk or bike ride. Enjoyed our stay, a guest/ information book would have been useful as no information about how to leave the cottage, where to empty the bins etc. We enjoyed our stay, would recommend it. Tissington is a truly chocolate box village.

Not much information about the surrounding area for people who are new to the Peak District.

Plus property should have a first aid kit available.

An amazing place to stay , so relaxing we loved it.

The cottage is located in the beautiful village of Tissington opposite the village duck pond.

It was an idyllic setting. The village is perfect, so well maintained. We loved the cottage which was cosy and romantic for our anniversary break. It is a 5 minute walk to the Tissington trail so was ideal for walking our dog. It was an excellent base to visit many other beautiful areas of the Peak District.

Had a lovely stay at the Fire Brigade - be mindful that it is sparse if you forget anything!

We arrived on a Sunday and no local shops (our own fault really, but be prepared!) Very comfortable place to stay and the bath was incredible, we had a power cut during our stay but the locals were lovely in ensuring we were okay. Would stay again

The setting was fabulous and the barn was lovely.

We felt that it would have been improved if there had been more information re the surrounding area and also a small welcome pack eg milk. Tissington is beautiful and we would return.

The towels need replacing they smell a bit of damp , rather dishwasher was dirty inside it had food remnants inside , and some sort of information leaflet/book to tell you about bins / recycling etc would be good

Details on website need updating, there isn’t a pub 15 minutes walk away now, it has closed down.

Absolutely lovely spot to stop for a weekend.

We only live half an hour away but coming here it feels like a different world. Nice to be woken up by the ducks instead of an alarm clock! Great for walks and just ‘getting away from it all’. Would definitely stop again.

Gorgeous cottage in a beautiful location right opposite the duck pond.

Large comfy sofa and bed and beautiful roll top bath. Can’t fault it and would love to come back!

Lovely location for walking, with good views of the pond.

Parking is right outside the cottage which is handy. Great butchers and plant nursery in the village, both worth a visit. Unfortunately cottage was a bit damp and slightly musty in all the rooms and there was no hoover.

The cottage was very comfortable, and its location was perfect - Tissington is a delightful village and the Christmas event at the Hall was an added bonus!

Our first holiday in the Peak District and we could not have chosen a better property.

Stylish, immaculately clean and with lovely touches to make us feel very welcome. The location is just perfect, with short or longer walks from the door, and Ilam and it’s amazing surrounds an easy few minutes drive away. We also were able to park directly outside throughout our stay. Highly recommend this property.

Fire Brigade Barn was perfect for us and our dog, well equipped and comfortable.

The Tissington trail is a short walk away from the property and the village is great for a short stroll. We would recommend the local tearoom for lunch and the butchers has delicious local sausages and bacon. We hope to return for a longer stay.

Fire Brigade barn was as we expected, everything was as advertised & we enjoyed our stay.

Proved to be a good base for visiting other places in the area.

This was a surprise for my wife's birthday.

We arrived on a dull very windy Saturday the cottage was very clean with everything you need for a holiday. The village of Tissington is charming, it has lovely tea shop and superb little old fashioned sweet shop. One small criticism there is no cupboard space to store food. Other wise brilliant.

Lovely cottage in a nice village the only down side is there is no outside area to sit in.

Would have appreciated a couple of kitchen serving spoons, one of them drainage as the wooden ones were inadequate for cooking and serving.

A reading lamp in the living room would have been helpful as the room is a bit dark for reading. A lovely spot for a break and we would certainly recommend it, the location delightful. Thank you for the wine and lovely biscuits.

Fire Brigade Barn was absolutely beautiful as was Tissington Village.

We were lucky to have great weather and spent a very enjoyable and relaxing week walking our dog Jeff, visiting local attractions and eating and drinking at the lovely local pubs. It was a perfect week.

Beautiful little cottage in a lovey village, ideal for couples.

The cottage was in an ideal position for us as we wanted to cycle both the Tissington and High Peak Trails. It was lovely to arrive to find milk, tea , coffee etc waiting for us along with a bottle of wine and biscuits. We had to contact the owner during our stay , they responded promptly and were very helpful. I would have liked there to be a ‘guest’ book in the property and was very disappointed that there were no instructions about recycling waste but these are minor points.

The accomodation was delightful, immaculately clean and very well planned.

Tissington is a beautiful village set in acres of private parkland. The village pond directly opposite the barn was so lovely to watch as there was a brood of 15 ducklings just hatched and their antics were amazing.Lambs at the farm opposite too. There is a very good butchers shop up the lane. Weather was fantastic as well. I would thoroughly recommend this property.

A real little gem to stay in and set in stunning surroundings.

Easy access to the Tissington Trail. Lovely tea room and great pubs close by. The George at Alstonefield was an amazing recommended find......but you would possibly have to book before your actual stay as it is very popular. Great home cooked family food at the Okeover pub in Mapleton also at the Old Dog at Thorpe,

Fire Brigade Barn is a gem, comfortable and well appointed and the view over the duck pond in this beautiful village is the icing on the cake.

We had an excellent short break and will be back. One tiny issue, watch for the step just inside the front door.

Loved the cottage, the only downside is it doesn’t have an enclosed garden for the dog, however that was advertised so knew that before we went.

Fire Brigade Barn interior is done to a high standard, although a private Garden would have topped it off but the duck pond and surrounding village is gorgeous!

The two days the sun was shining we would have a glass of wine or cup of tea sat on bench by duck pond. The Ducks where very entertaining and as It was during term time the area was very quiet and minimal traffic or parking issues. After peeping at other cottages in the village and exploring surrounding areas in the peak district we definatly felt Tissington was the prettiest village/town and the Barn was just perfect for 2 people and a 5month old cockapoo. Ashbourne being a short drive of around 6mins which is closest and most substantial town, we highly recommend the George and Dragon Pub for Food and a Drink (also dog friendly) there are also many other pubs and restaurants. If there was a pub in Tissington Village itself it would have perfected the stay for me. A must visit is Dovedale and the stepping stones which is a 10min drive, absolutely gorgeous walk! We got there early morning around 10am so we didn't see a soul (which is good for photo oppurtunitys) but by 11 and lunchtime it was becoming very busy! If we are to return to Peak District in the future, we will defiantly consider returning to Fire Brigade Barn.

What a beautiful village and a lovely setting, listening to the ducks when you wake in the morning, amazing.

Would have liked somewhere to sit have a cuppa in the morning sun, but purely personal. The lady that lived next door was a joy to talk to and we enjoyed every moment we were love. See you soon:) Thank you.

Really enjoyed our stay at The Firebrigade cottage.

A very well equipped cottage that has been tastefully renovated. Very clean and lovely fresh towels and bedding, loved the little touches such as fresh flowers, biscuits and wine on our arrival. Plenty do to right from the door - cycle trails, walks, tea rooms and Tissington Hall, wonderful!

Just had a fantastic 4 nights stay in Fire Bridage Barn.

Spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Would definitely recommend for a relaxing break.

Fire brigade barn is a lovely little for cottage.

It is in a beautiful location. Everything was great and even the bed was super comfy. The Wi-Fi could be a little slow but that's what you expect being in the countryside. In fact it meant I read more! The cottage has all that you need although a few more kitchen utensils would have been handy as I like to cook and a little more info on bin day and local amenities. You must visit the sweet shop and bits and bobs shop in Tissington. Lots to do near the cottage and a great cycle ride from ashbourne. We would def come back to Fire brigade barn for sure.

Loved waking up to ducks quacking on the pond opposite the cottage. Comfortable furniture both upstairs and downstairs.

Fire Brigade Barn is a beautiful little building in the heart of the Tissington estate.

It has been converted into really comfortable accommodation. The facilities are excellent. The downstairs living area is quite spacious and the kitchen well equipped.The bed is very comfortable and the bathroom is large with a great bath and shower.The setting which is facing the duck pond in the village is wonderful. The Tissington trail is easily accessible from the Barn. This is an ideal place for visiting many of the lovely villages and towns in Derbyshire and Staffordshire. I would definitely recommend this property.

We loved our stay at Fire Brigade Barn.

It was cosy, clean and well equiped. Its position overlooking the village duckpond was enchanting, as was the village of Tissington. Walking from here was possible in any direction. Would return tomorrow.

Tissington is a beautiful village with lots of walks and so close to tissington trail we had a lovely walk to ashbourne in the snow. Would highly recommend and hope to come back soon

My husband and I and our little dog stayed at this property it was lovely, comfortable and clean.

Its situated in the most beautiful village of Tissington. There was a quality butchers where we got lots of meat, a lovely toffee shop and a lovely cafe it was idyllic. We went for a trip to Ashbourne a few miles away, a lovely town. Lots of nice pubs and restaurants in the area too. Highly recommended we will be staying there again.

This is an excellent property, clean, extremely well equipped & in a beautiful setting.

Great for walkers, cyclists or anybody who loves the countryside. View over the duck pond is great for bird watchers. Just needs a teapot and a few more mugs to make it perfect.

The barn was absolutely perfect - beautiful in every way.

We had a wonderful week and I immediately looked to rebook for Feb half term (I am a teacher) Sadly the barn was booked already so I looked at May half term and was shocked that it would cost £800 - this does seem a little excessive.

As it was our 30th wedding anniversary we wanted somewhere special to stay and this certainly hit the spot!

Beautifully decorated and presented this barn is a wonderful retreat in a lovely village. A great place to explore the Peak District. I highly recommend it and would love to stay there again.
