Hope Cottage

Hope Cottage was a real home away from home and a lovely base for our stay in the Peak District.

The owner was friendly and communicative from the moment we booked, throughout our visit and right up until the final evening of our stay. The cottage was very well equipped, and it was clear that a great deal of thought had gone into both the essentials and the smaller details. Practical items such as bin bags, cooking oil, salt and pepper, and enough toilet rolls to get us started were all provided. There were also thoughtful touches that reflected how guests would actually use the cottage, including hot water bottles, plenty of tea towels and a clothes horse for drying wet clothing. We felt comfortable and secure throughout our stay, and Youlgreave itself is a lovely, well-served village. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Hope Cottage and would happily recommend it to others looking for a welcoming and well-equipped place to stay.

Great cottage, very well equipped and well located for excellent walks.

The owners are very responsive and provided lower tog bedding when asked due to hot weather, which was unexpectedly nice of them.

Hope Cottage is kept to a very high standard.

It is beautifully presented, spotlessly clean, and extremely well equipped, with everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing stay. The kitchen has plenty of utensils, and the cottage itself feels cosy, welcoming, and thoughtfully cared for throughout. The surrounding area offers a great choice of spectacular scenery and walks together with interesting local restaurants and pubs, all serving good food, and dogs are made very welcome everywhere. The generous welcome pack and the little extras were much appreciated too — especially the pooch basket with treats, which was such a lovely touch. Communication with the owners was very friendly and responsive throughout, which made the whole experience even better. Les, Pauline and Marley dog!

An excellent cottage, super clean and immaculately presented.

Hope Cottage was everything we needed for a weekend away. We enjoyed the sun trap patio, cosy evenings in the lounge and the super comfortable beds. The two village pubs were great for evening meals and we had a lovely breakfast at Fountain View Bakery too. Would recommend, thank you!

Lovely property in a gorgeous village.

We felt at home straight away and it was clean and cosy. The cottage had everything we needed for the week. We parked in the village car park as the property parking was a bit too tight for our car but this was just a short walk from the cottage and free. Would definitely recommend Hope Cottage to others and hope to be back!

Fantastic stay at Hope cottage, perfect cottage and location to meet up with family from various parts of the country.

Cottage had everything we needed and was comfortable and warm. Communication with the owners was first class, always a quick reply if we had any questions. No problem with the parking, I managed to reverse my CX-5 in without issue and there's plenty of street parking if required. My son in law left his car in the public car park just up the road for the entire week without issue. Good pubs in the village, we used all three during our stay and lovely walks from the cottage into the beautiful countryside surrounding the village. Five adults and a dog all agreed we'd definitely like to return in the future.

Everything just as perfect as previous stays. The cottage is kept to a very high standard, very clean and very comfy furnishings. The communication you recieve from the owner is the best you can get. Always there if you need or want anything, Not that you will find any issues with the property. Thanks for another amazing stay.

What a gorgeous cottage with every little detail thought of, from bubble bath in the bathroom to tea, coffee and sugar in the kitchen, not to mention the lovely welcome boxes for adults and doggies alike and everything in between to make a getaway just perfect.

I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Hope Cottage. Also thanks to Kirsty and Martyn for all the communication before and during our stay which was very helpful. Overall 10/10.

A wonderful cottage in a beautiful village.

Very comfortable and had everything you could need. The pooch pack was the best we had ever seen! Little touches like providing bubble bath and welcome snacks was also lovely. So much stunning countryside to explore, walking opportunities galore. Fantastic meals in the village pubs too. We would definitely visit again

We really enjoyed our stay at Hope Cottage.

We found the cottage really cosy and perfect for our short break in the Peak District. The cottage is located in an excellent location with three local pubs in walking distance and we had countless walks along the river/public footpaths into the Peaks on our doorstop. The facilities at Hope Cottage catered for our every need from the generous welcome pack to accommodating for our dogs needs. We would highly recommended Hope Cottage to others.

Hope Cottage was everything the description said it would be and more.

A truly quaint old cottage that has been beautifully updated but without losing its charm. It felt truly welcoming and cosy, but was also a cool haven from the July heatwave. Our dog was a particular fan of the stone flag flooring which felt cool even when 32C outside. We really could not find fault with anything and it is among our top 5 cottages. The location is perfect and we would highly recommend a stay there.

We had a lovely week at Hope Cottage.

It was very well equipped and there was nothing we could think of to improve the stay. Beds were comfortable and there was plenty of hot water. We thoroughly enjoyed the fact that there were lots of walks straight from the door (with local guidebooks provided) as well as easy access to places further afield.

Hope cottage is a lovely base to explore the peak district.

It is well equipped and very comfortable. It is ideally situated to either explore by foot as there are some good walks from the property but its also close, by car, to favourite attractions such as Chatsworth House, Abraham Heights, Lady Bower Reservoir and Bakewell to name but a few. There is also a bus running regularly through the village. The village is a lovely old village, we would highly recommend the Farmyard inn for food, we ate here and it was a great meal with very friendly staff. Kirsty and Martyn, who host Hope cottage, are very responsive to communication and are great hosts. I would definitely recommend this holiday cottage if you are looking to visit the Peak district.

The cottage is quite rustic & very cozy with all the facilities we needed & provided an excellent base for our holiday. Great walks right from the doorstep & 3 village pubs for refreshments, we tried them all. Can't wait to return.

We were winter visitors and the cottage was truly warm and cosy, all the amenities were first rate, a lot of TLC has gone into this lovely Youlgrave cottage which is truly dog friendly, treats await them, not forgetting their owners! Your own car space in this peaceful but busy little village, so close to all Peak favourites, Bakewell, just minutes away as is glorious Chatsworth. Really lovely and helpful owner, always a bonus, 3 dog friendly pubs in such a small village, dog friendly and very good food. Would be heaven in the summer months, Thank you Kirsty.

We arrived early evening to find a lovely cosy cottage with a welcome pack and hot water bottles on our bed which was a nice touch considering it was vey cold outside.

We loved the pooch tin and doggy treats and so did our dog! The cottage is well equipped and a comfortable space for our family and dog. Off road parking is a bonus. The owners were great at communicating details and keeping us posted on things. We really enjoyed our stay at Hope Cottage and if in the area again, would happily return.

We had a lovely week in Hope Cottage over October half term.

There were many little extras which made the property welcoming - including hot water bottles on the bed, bubble bath and especially the items for the dog. The perfect option if, like us, you have someone that needs everything on ground level. Immaculately clean and comfortable. We visited a lovely pub in the village and could get everything we needed in one of the two village shops or the bakery. A great find!

Another year, another stay, another review.

So this is our second visit to this amazing property. So impressed the first time we needed a return. The property is beautiful, inside and out. Lovely welcome pack on arrival and the welcome book has so much information for you if needed. Even extras in it about walking routes, pubs etc. Great touch. Furnished to a high standard, warm, comfortable and everything that is needed is there. The living room is especially comfortable and if it wasn't for wanting to explore the area I could of sat there all day. The kitchen, just as beautiful as the rest of the property and if I could cook! I could of spent a lot of time in there too. Not one thing about this property let's it down and you can tell that the owners really put a lot of effort into keeping it this way. Speaking of which, I have never had such great and helpful communication from any owner of properties, and we have stayed at a lot. Makes it feel so much more welcoming. Another great touch. All of this combined made for another great stay, so much so that 4 days after returning home we have already booked for next year. Thankyou for sharing your home with us again and we look forward to another return.

Hope cottage is a very clean, comfortable and well equipped cottage.

We had everything we could possibly need, with lots of thoughtful touches including hot water bottles (we were lovely and warm so didn’t use them) and all the dog equipment you could think of. Parking was a little bit tight but fine for a smaller car. I would say the twin bedroom is best suited to young children (it’s quite small). We had a lovely weekend and the village is fantastic.

The village of Youlgreave also has a great selection of local pubs and shops plus walking routes so there is also plenty to do from the door.

This was quite possibly the most beautiful cottage we have stayed in in the Peak District and there's been a few!

Very comfortable and cosy, beautifully decorated and very much a 'home'. The location was ideal for visiting anywhere in the Peaks and our hosts could not have been more accommodating from day one. Can recommend all the pubs in the village, although the welcome and food in the nearest, the Farmyard Inn were hard to beat. Helpful having a parking space as the village is understandably very popular but it is ample for one large car. The walk down and along Bradford Dale is a must and very pretty, rain or shine. Can't thank Kirsty enough for her kindness and hospitality and we definitely plan to visit again. Apologies for delay in feedback, I accidentally deleted the link email!! PS. A lovely house, very clean and well kept, it had everything you'd need during your stay.

Kirsty was a great host, always on hand if needs be throughout our stay. The house is in a lovely village ideal for exploring the area and with pubs close by. I'd definitely recommend Hope cottage if looking to stay in Youlegreave.

The cottage was simply wonderful.

It was warm and cosy and the kitchen was really well equipped. The owners have put an awful lot if thought and care into making it a home from home. The towels and bedding were spotless. There was a welcome box for the dog and ourselves. We really can't fault it. Be aware that the parking spot is a bit tight, but it's a bonus that the cottage has one. I would go back again in a heartbeat. We highly recommend staying there.

This is our second visit to Hope Cottage and Youlgreave.

A fab place to visit if you love walking, lovely friendly pubs and great village, whilst staying in a fabulous cottage. The cottage is so well equipped and furnished with everything you could want. We have always visited in Feb where the weather can deal many different elements. The cottage is so warm and welcoming no matter what the weather. The owners are so helpful and have gone to great lengths to make everything great for your stay.

Beautiful comfortable cottage, well equipped to high standard.

Woodburner made the living room lovely and cosy, as well as central heating throughout the cottage.Welcome snacks for both us and our dog were much appreciated. The lovely railings and gates installed around the entrance made it safe for young children and pets. Great location in the village and close to a welcoming pub with good a very short walk. Would definitely recommend this beautiful cottage.

We had a lovely Christmas stay at Hope Cottage.

Communication from the hosts Kirsty and Martyn was excellent leading up to and during our stay. The cottage was cosy, warm and comfortable and had everything we needed for a 4 day break. The beds were so comfortable. The log burner kept us toasty warm. The extra little bits like hot water bottles for each of us and blankets were a really nice touch. The pooch pack for the dog was also a thoughtful extra. I just wanted to move in

I have just returned home from a week at Hope Cottage - it is a wonderful cottage and perfectly described by the owners / hosts.

The attention to detail by the owners to ensure we had a good holiday was exceptional and by far the best we have ever had, and we've stayed in lots of cottages! From the details of how to find the property, where to park and reminders of the key code to the welcome pack (we were sad not to have a dog with us, the pooch holiday pack was amazing too!), the details of the village and local walks etc. And, I have to mention the hot water bottles ... I was such a happy and warm person! I would recommend this cottage without hesitation .. thank you so very much

One of the nicest cottages we have stayed in.

Cleaned to a high standard throughout, great furnishings and a beautiful kitchen. Everything you could possibly need whilst on a holiday is here. Great location and only at a push 100 metres from a lovely pub. Also, some of the best communication from the owners I have ever received. Thanks for supplying us with such a great base for our 4 days. Will 100% be returning.

Lovely cottage ideally situated very close to the river and a 1 minute stroll to the nearest pub, immaculately clean through out and very tastefully decorated mixing the cottage feel with modern touches in bathrooms and kitchen.

The master bedroom is huge and the bed very comfortable. Lots of attention to detail with a welcome pack of goodies (even one for the dog if you have one) also a bottle of radox bath in the bathroom if you have over used the muscles. The cottage was warm, welcoming, comfortable, amazingly well equipped and obviously looked after with love and care by the owners. Lovely soft sheets and towels, comfy beds, great shower, cosy living room and lots of extras. The location is great - we loved the walk down the lane to the river from the house and there are so many walks from the door, friendly village with choice of pubs and local bakery. We had a great week, Youlgreave being an ideal location for shops, pubs, playgrounds for young children and walks.

A really lovely cottage in a great location for exploring the Peak District.

We went to Padley Gorge, Dovedale, Mam Tor, Hathersage and Bakewell, and there are many other lovely places nearby that we would have explored if we had had time. We had a wonderful time here, and what makes Hope Cottage extra special are the walks down to the river in the valley behind the property. It was lovely to have great days out, then go for a late afternoon walk from the cottage.

A fantastic cottage in a great location, you certainly won't be disappointed! Highly recommend the Bulls Head also (Sunday lunch was very scrumptious).

We spent a week at Hope Cottage, Youlgreave in January 2023 with our daughter, son-in-law and 18month old grandson.

It was excellent and enjoyed by us all. The cottage was one of the best that we have stayed in. It was clean, warm and well equipped, and felt homely. There was a much appreciated welcome basket for both us and our dog. The owner made sure that we could contact her about and problems (there weren't), without being intrusive. Youlgreave is a pretty village with 3 excellent shops and 3 pubs serving food (with take away fish and chips) all within a few minutes walking distance from Hope Cottage. Whilst the younger adults were out bouldering on nearby crags, we had fun walking alongside the river with our dog and young grandson, and he enjoyed the swings and slide etc in the village playing area. It was an excellent choice for a short holiday even in a cold and wet January.

This cottage was absolute perfection or us.

The host was amazing with communication & nothing was too much trouble. It was extremely well equipped, cozy & warm. The village is lovely, with 3 pubs (we tried them all!) & a nice shop for any essentials. Walking along the river bank is great for dogs too. Fab for bird lovers, we saw kingfishers, dippers & wagtails. We would highly recommend it & will definitely return in the future

The cottage is very comfortable and we felt very much at home.

The heating is super efficient...had to lower the temperature in the bedrooms. As well as being very well equipped and beautifully furnished, the owners have thought of all the little things....hot water bottles, plenty of coasters to place drinks in all rooms, tea lights, information and books to share. The pubs, café and shops in the village are great and people are very friendly.

The cottage is in the lovely village of Youlgreave and in an ideal location for visiting the Peak District. There are three excellent pubs in the village all serving great food. The cottage was very well equipped, cosy and comfortable. We would definitely return for another visit.

Lovely cottage in a great location.

All our great activities (Mam Tor, Speedwell Caverns, Peak Caverns, Miller's Dale/Chee Dale, Padley Gorge, Chatsworth, Eyam, Bakewell) were all within easy distance. It was a bonus to find such fantastic walks 2 mins from the property.

A well equipped cottage in the heart of a lively and thriving village.

Hope Cottage has everything you will need for a comfortable and relaxing stay. It is spotlessly clean, with modern good quality fittings, a well equipped kitchen and comfortable living space. Good quality beds for a great nights sleep. Nice extra touches such as welcome food pack and firewood. Youlgreave has three friendly pubs, two local shops a park and an excellent cafe (Peak Feasts) - do try the excellent Homity pie. A number of walks start from the village and the local swimming spot is worth a try - not for the faint hearted!

Lovely fluffy towels. Nice hamper, milk, tea and coffee. It was very comfortable, heating, hot water everything was as described.

Warm, comfy beds, excellent shower, really well equipped with everything we needed & so quiet & peaceful. We appreciated the thoughtful things provided ; essential provisions on arrival, doggy box , long lead for outside & outside tap ! Beautifully decorated with lovely pictures & ornaments to look at too. It was good having a downstairs bedroom & shower for my elderly mum. The cottage is in a fantastic location handy for many local walks (Lathkildale stunning) & pubs within walking distance where we had lovely meals & such a friendly village. Also only a short drive to some of the other beautiful places in the area. Kirsty & Martyn are great hosts & contacted us before our visit with some local info which was helpful. Thanks for a great week & we hope to come back again.

What an amazing week!

We absolutely loved our stay in this cosy & comfortable cottage. The property is really nicely furnished as a 'home from home' - the owners had thought of everything (they even left us an Easter egg!), and were in touch as we arrived to ensure everything went smoothly. Youlgreave is a gem of a village - we were able to walk directly from the property on several days using the helpful book on local walks we found at the cottage; the scenery is just magnificent. It's also a great base from which to explore the Peak District - we loved Buxton, Bakewell and of course Chatsworth which are all an easy drive away. We sampled all 3 of Youlgreave's village pubs & would really recommend 'Pie Night' on Thursday at the Bull's Head! Thank you so much @ Kirsty & Martyn, we will be back! The Evans Family
