Outstanding.

What a gem. Immaculately clean, warm, comfortable with high end appliances to quality crockery and utensils. Walk on the brooding moors to riverside walks right from the front door. Watch the deer and fox from the windows while looking at the amazing sunrises across the valley. Easy travelling to Brontë country or towns like Halifax to visit the Piece Gardens. The owner was welcoming and should be very proud of this property. I stayed a week but could have very happily stayed much longer. Thank you.

A truly outstanding cottage with views across the hills for miles, absolutely perfect for a peaceful break, a walk round the reservoir through the woods is recommended before coming back for lunch on the patio.

The cottage itself is very high spec with every little thing thought of, not to mention Claire’s amazing lemon brownies she left for us, Watching a family of deer in the bottom field every late afternoon was truly magical, this cottage is a pure delight, thank you Claire for letting us stay x

Black House is a beautiful cottage in a wonderful setting.

It had just about everything you need and Claire, the host, was very pleasant and helpful. From the welcome goods on arrival, to the deer running in the field next to the cottage and the donkeys in the field down the road a bit, everything was great. I would definitely recommend

A very well equipped cottage in a lovely moorland setting.

Renovated about seven years ago, it is open plan in style, both downstairs and upstairs. The patio has lovely views and is sunny all day. Very good walking country with Baitings Reservoir just down the road with a flat perimeter path for the less energetic. Lovely personal welcome from Claire, the owner, with home made cakes and a fruit bowl. We all enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend.

A fantastic stay at this cottage .

The hosts were lovely, we really appreciated the welcome treats. Wonderful views , we spent so much much time just looking out of the window! Very comfortable bed and high quality bed linen . Everything in the cottage was immaculate all facilities high end and everything you needed catered for. Our little dog Connie was very happy in the garden . Fully recommend. We went to the Alma nearby and had lovely meals.

Our stay at Black House Cottage was perfect from start to finish and it certainly has the "WOW" factor the moment you walk through the door.

The property is expertly furnished to a high standard, extremely clean and feels warm and cosy throughout. Being so peaceful and quiet it is just the place to recharge those batteries. The views from the cottage are breathtaking, the kind you could sit all day looking at. The TV was nice and big, the sofa was huge, the beds in both bedrooms were very comfy and the kitchen was well equipped for self catering. The bathrooms were very clean and modern with a lovely large bath in the main bedroom. Claire and Dave were perfect hosts, very friendly, warm and welcoming as well as being helpful and knowledgeable about the local area. When we arrived they had also left us some treats and a bottle of Prosecco which was very much enjoyed. There were plenty of walks right from the doorstep and a couple of pubs a few minutes drive away, The Alma Inn is a must, food was unbelievable. All in all, Black House Cottage is an outstanding hidden gem in a beautiful part of Yorkshire, we're already looking forward to returning in the near future.

Delightful property in an elevated position with stunning views.

Ideal location for us to visit family. We were made to feel welcome by the owners who were on hand should anything arise which it didn't. Tastefully decorated and furnished and immaculately clean. Great size TV sometimes the TV's is holiday lets are so small they're impossible to watch. Lovely kitchen which is very well equipped. Underfloor heating is a game changer, it's marvellous!! We would stay here again in a heartbeat and aim to sometime next spring. Can't thank Claire and Dave enough it was good to be back in Yorkshire.

Fab decor with high end furnishings, well equipped kitchen and really handy utility room. Secure dog friendly garden with fantastic views and great walks directly from the property. Lots to do in the surrounding area. Lovely arrival gifts and the property had lots of extra finishing touches. Claire and Dave are such brilliant friendly hosts and made the stay even more special. We can't wait to go back.

The cottages decor is a lovely mix of country chic and the best dog friendly home from home we have ever stayed in.

A lovely open plan downstairs with stone floor and great stair gate to stop damp paws from getting to the truly luxurious upstairs, where the bedrooms were also like a 5 star hotel. The views are perfect and walking from the cottage is easy. Our spaniel also loved the huge patio and very large fenced in grass area to play in, even in the rain! A totally fantastic stay. We will return as there are plenty of walks in the area and things to see and do.

Black House Cottage was beautiful!

Extremely clean, wonderful scenery and very thoughtful amenities and decor. Claire and Dave were lovely and so kind and helpful. The cottage was in the perfect location to explore the local area with our little family. Our daughter loved having her own ensuite and we loved having a bath in our bedroom. Such a treat! Thank you Claire & Dave for a wonderful stay!!!

We have stayed in many Sykes cottages over the years and Black House Cottage is there at the top.

It has stunning views, idyllic location, beautifully decorated with everything you need. Great welcome from Claire and Dave they have a fountain of knowledge about this beautiful area of Yorkshire. Fantastic welcome pack including delicious homemade scones and cake. We would highly recommend this cottage to family, friends and anyone wanting a lovely relaxing holiday. 10/10.

Black House Cottage is very luxurious, you couldn't fault it.

There are sweeping views from the living area and the patio. It is rural without being isolated; it is only a few minutes' drive from a choice of pubs and the Co-op in Ripponden. There is a warm welcome from Claire and Dave, whose house is next door. The garden is genuinely dog-proof and there is also a field attached where you can walk your dog. A short walk or drive away is Baitings Reservoir, with a path all around it, where a dog can also be walked safely. You can join the Pennine Way only a 5 minute drive from the cottage, if energetic walking is for you. For those less agile, we enjoyed some of the National Trust waymarked trails at Hardcastle Crags, just above Hebden Bridge. And the cafe and ice cream shop there!.

Second visit to Blackhouse Cottage.

Absolutely wonderful. Can not praise hospitality enough from Claire and Dave. Last visit was Nov 24 with snow. This time weather was lovely and views over the moors just as exceptional. Surprise visit from the deer in the field. Plenty places to visit. May very well be a third visit for us.

It is probably the best one I have used. The cottage is very well laid out and has everything needed for a great stay. The area is fantastic and very relaxing. Having stayed in many holiday let’s Black house is up there at the top , very comfortable and everything you need for a great stay .

Nice and peaceful, wonderful view from the patio which we got to sit out on in March ! Claire and Dave were very friendly hosts ready to give advice if needed but also respectful of your privacy. Black house is very well situated to visit no end of local visitor attractions or simply enjoy the peace and quiet of a very comfortable holiday home. Both Linda and I enjoyed our stay immensely and would wholeheartedly recommend Black house for a great holiday.

Spotlessly clean and well appointed and very, very comfortable.

We enjoyed a very relaxing week and if felt very much like a sanctuary. A certain lack of privacy in the bathroom inherent in the lay out required adjustment,although we were aware of the layout of the bathroom from the photos.We certainly think of returning again. The setting was so peaceful and calming.

What a wonderful stay we had in this absolute gem of a property.

Felt immediately relaxed as soon as we arrived. The views are breathtaking and can be seen from all the rooms. The property was immaculately clean and very well equipped. It has a beautiful cottage feel but with modern features (underfloor heating was a treat). Claire the host was absolutely lovely and gave us some great ideas of where to visit. We recommend The Engine, the Fleece Country pub and the Alma pub. The welcome basket was a nice touch. We will 100% return and can’t wait to do so. Can’t recommend this property highly enough

What an absolutely beautiful property!

Everything is catered for to a high standard and we felt comfortable straight away upon entering. It certainly is a ‘home from home’. The bedrooms were beautiful and the bath is to die for! The underfloor heating kept us nice and cozy and the open plan downstairs was perfect for us as we had plenty of space! We even had the added bonus of the sheep in the nearby field gracing us with their presence on the last morning. We will certainly be looking to book again as we had such a fantastic time as a family of three!

We stay at Sykes cottages alot.

We are 2 couples. Black House cottage was up there with the very best. We were 'at home', as soon as we arrived. Welcomed by Claire one of our hosts. The cottage was warm, comfortable and had everything we needed for a really relaxing week. The surrouding area was ideal for a steady walk and the Bee Hive pub was a short stride, where the atmosphere and food were lovely. Thank you, Claire and David for a wonderful stay in your special place. We will be back. Sue, Paul, Sue and Barry.

This was one of the best stays we’ve had and we will definitely be returning.

The owners have created a real home from home and gave us the warmest of welcomes we’ve ever received on a holiday let. Accommodation is so comfortable with under floor heating (we were there in -7degrees) and everything you could need. We visited nearby Hebden Brigde, Haworth and Halifax which were so close by and well worth the visit.

Great property and loved our time there.

Great views especially with the snow and lovely walks around the reservoir just down the road. Forgot to mention to Claire that tv tries to play sound through Bluetooth speaker as default but because boom box is not plugged in (is in boiler room) there is then no sound. Someone who is not tech savvy might not know how to switch to tv speaker so thought I would mention it!
