Strathannan

What a wonderful find.

The whole place was like a tardis, so much room and comfort. It was truely a home from home with everything you could possibly need. Beautfiul bedding and decor and such comfy beds. The huge dog friendly garden was an absolute blessing, our doggo loved the space to run (and chase the rabbits). Would highly recommmend Strathannan to everyone. A lovely cottage in beautiful surroundings.

It is well equipped and comfortable. We had a couple of issues that occurred during our stay and the owners were easy to contact and very helpful. Its our fourth year here and we have never been disappointed. We will definitely book this cottage again

The cottage was like home from home, very comfortable and clean, beautiful garden and in a lovely position.

A booklet about eating places in moffat and the surrounding area would have been helpful but would gladly stay again.

Lovely location, well equipped and comfortable once I'd seen how to switch the heating on in the cold evenings ( it wasn't worth lighting the fire for just a couple of hours)

We loved staying at strathannan it was perfect for all our needs, we loved the kitchen spending time having family meals with lots of room to get my daughter in her wheelchair in there, we loved the downstairs bedroom and bathroom which made it perfect for us the only feedback I would say was you could do with a tumble dryer to dry clothes on the rainy weeks like we had.

Also if you have big car like we did the parking is very narrow but watching the birds every morning made it we refilled them bird feeders every day as the range and amount of birds was lovely, thank you for the lovely welcome gifts of wine and biscuits

Strathannan is a perfect place to base your stay in Dumfries & Galloway!

Close to Moffat for shops, food and drink. Excellent for walks right out the front door and a fantastic house for you and your pet

We enjoyed our stay at Strathannan very much and have no hesitation in recommending it to others.

Set in rural surroundings, the house offers every comfort and facility, is close to the motorway exit and has easy access to the town of Moffat.

Beautiful cottage its our third visit and we will definitely be going back again soo The cottage is well equipped clean and comfortable and has a great garden which is secure which was great for our dog.

The dog beds, throws for the recliner chairs bottle of wine and biscuits on arrival and bid seed to feed the birds in the garden are just some of the little things that make it feel special

An ideal location for us, an easy walk into town without being in the town.

Everything we needed was in the cottage and large, lawned garden.

It was really hard to pack up and leave Strathannan.

Although we didn’t have the best of weather the cottage was homely, comfortable and we easily spent a large amount of time relaxing around the cottage. Everything has been well thought out, there’s everything you need in the kitchen, the beds were extremely comfortable and most of all the cottage was extremely clean. Our dogs loved the massive and secure garden to explore. There is plenty of birdlife which is helped by the fact there are bird feeders and bird food available to top up the feeders. The WiFi can be unreliable but that’s not the end of the world. You can also get an online Tesco grocery delivery to the cottage which we found useful. But there is a co-op and various other little shops in Moffat.

A lovely well equipped cottage in a beautiful setting.

Our two greyhounds loved the enclosed garden and walks in the area. The cottage is just a short drive to Moffat, which was very dog friendly. We enjoyed the wine and biscuits, thank you. Our only minor niggles- we found the double bed a bit too soft for our liking. We also found the WiFi signal to be really poor to the extent that catch up services on the TV wouldn't work. We did see vans laying fibre in the area so put it down to disruption because of this. Otherwise we had a great stay and loved the area.

We had good weather during our stay, and in general Strathannan is a good base for exploring the area.

However, as dog owners we always check the outside areas to ensure our dogs cannot get out. The large grassed area is all secure, but we found 7 lots of dog poo, obviously left by whoever was in the cottage last. This is very irresponsible behaviour and there are notices in the cottage asking people to pick up after their dogs. We stayed at Strathannan last year too, and again the WiFi is very poor. It keeps dropping even when you're near the router, and is almost impossible to stream anything on TV, or on a tablet, and using your phone is better to disconnect the WiFi and use the local 4G network, and the WiFi is so slow. Finally, directly opposite at the other side of the River Annan, is a house with a Plant Hire business. They have planning permission to build holiday lodges on the site, and have cleared all the trees and shrubbery from their side of the river, so you can see right across the site. Several days it was very hot so we just stayed in the shade of the large Beech tree with the dogs. However our peace was ruined by the sound of chainsaws and a large Caterpillar track going back and forth doing some groundwork. There was something going on everyday, and probably will be for some time, which is a shame as the cottage is situated on a quiet unclassified road, with little traffic. We came away to get away from noise but unfortunately that didn't happen.

We had a lovely week weather beautiful we had some nice walks with the dog the scenery was amazing we enjoyed sitting in the massive garden ada fell in love with the horses and colin had a couple of games of golf at moffat which was superb will be back next year

Lovely property, warm and inviting.

Very well equipped with just about everything you could want. Wine and biscuits much appreciated. One thing for future guests to bear in mind is that the courtyard area at the rear is a bit of a challenge if you have 2 cars!

Another lovely week spent in this beautiful part of the world.

My daughters suggested vacuuming under beds (downstairs) and a mirror (fixed or freestanding) upstairs (single room). Three out of four pillows in upstairs double need replacing - shape and cleanliness (latter evident when stripping beds for departure). Stain on single mattress (upstairs). Property would benefit from additional hard flooring downstairs - hallway and lounge areas. Beautiful views and walks from property. Warm and snug with oil fired central heating and wood burner and plenty of hot water. We enjoyed watching the many birds at the feeders each day Thank you Martin and Wendy.

Again spacious and very welcoming in a good location for visiting Dumfries and Galloway.

Only let down was the Wi Fi.

Cottage was well equipped for a break away and plenty of outside space. Just be aware of some fast passing traffic.

Beautiful cottage with lots of space to relax.

Very handy for motorway but still feels remote and peaceful on a very quiet road, We were lucky with the weather and got to enjoy the sunny garden while the boys had space to kick a football about. An excellent place to relax while exploring the beautiful local countryside.

Spotlessly clean and the best equipped cottage that we have staid in. The owners have gone to a lot of trouble to make your stay comfortable. The large garden/paddock is brilliant for dogs to play.

A fabulous cottage, very well equipped for a wonderful stay.

It is in a very peaceful location just over 1.5 miles from the centre of Moffat. The beds were very comfortable and there was a brilliant shower and separate bath. The bath did take a rather long time to fill but it was worth it to have a nice soak after a day’s walking. Plenty of bars serving food that are all dog friendly in town. Lovely walks nearby especially the river walk in town. Would definitely like to stay again when next in the Dumfries area. Thanks again for the welcome gifts. Les, Jan and Misty

We thought Strathannan was ideal for us and and two dogs.

The cottage has everything you could possibly need, is spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The lawned area is large which the dogs loved, and the trees provided shade as apart from one day, we had lovely sunny weather. It is also in a quiet spot on a single track road but within easy reach of Moffat and the A74M and all the stunning countryside in the area. The only niggle was the WiFi, which needs sorting out. Apart from that we'd highly recommend the property to anyone.

Lovely cottage within walking distance of moffat,our patterdale terrier loved the garden.

Everything inside the cottage was fabulous and as described.

We found the driveway incredibly narrow and tight to negotiate from the single track road outside. Enjoyed fabulous walks from the cottage and further afield. A very enjoyable week.

Christmas at Strathannan has been special for us as a family and I would highly recommend the cottage at any time of the year.

2nd time we've been here.

First time the weather was tremendous as was cottage second time weather atrocious but cottage and stay were still amazing . Would reccomend to anyone brought daughter and son in law this time they too would go back in heartbeat

We absolutely loved the cottage.

It was spotlessly clean and welcoming on arrival. The garden was well maintained and securely fenced, perfect for our dog. The cottage had everything we needed and the kitchen was well equipped. We hope to book again for next year.

Great shower - my preference.

....although for anyone requiring a bath, some sort of grab handle/rail would be beneficial to steady oneself. I myself am agile but my husband, who prefers a bath is not and found it quite difficult getting in and out of the bath. Good to have the option of bath or shower though. Shower is quick and easy to use. Bath takes at least 30 minutes to fill just a quarter as the bath tap water runs very slowly.

We loved the cottage and the garden was a godsend as it was very hot the week we were there.

Too hot for the dogs in the car but they loved the garden. The cottage was clean and has everything you need. Bout a mile and half outa town so need the car for shopping. Loved the peace and tranquility and had a fab time. Lovely place!

One of the best cottages we have stayed in.

Our pooch had great fun in the large enclosed garden and we were greeted with wine and biscuits. Thank you. The kitchen had all the equipment you needed including a slow cooker, proper coffee machine and for me a teapot! Walking area was fabulous too and Moffat a very dog friendly town. We will be returning. A great holiday.

The owners of the cottage have thought of everything to make sure all guests have a comfortable stay. The cottage is well equipped, in a great location and is so warm & welcoming. Moffatt is a lovely little town to visit, and there are several walks nearby to enjoy.

Great holiday, perfect weather, good walks &visits

A really lovely cottage for those who like peace and quiet.

The kitchen was extremely well equipped and there were innumerable thoughtful touches to make one feel at home. Such a beautiful area too and there was ample information regarding walks and things to do in the locality and further afield. All in all highly recommended.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Strathannan Cottage.

We found the cottage comfortable, clean and well supplied with everything we needed. Dog beds were even supplied, dog leads and bowls. A very welcome bottle of wine and a packet of biscuits we’re waiting for us. Those touches mean so much, thank you. The beds are comfortable and bedding modern and pretty. The surrounding area is beautiful and we have wondered why we travelled through Moffat and area so swiftly in the past, on our way to the Highlands and Islands. Thank you for making Strathannan available for holiday let’s.

Cottage was clean, clear instructions, and lots of thought put into customer's needs.

We loved the huge garden for the dogs, and kitchen was well stocked. Also appreciated the welcome gift. The only thing that could have been improved was that the upstairs bedrooms were flooded with light in the morning so we were awake at the crack of dawn. Blackout blinds would be ideal.

Strathannon is an amazing cottage in a lovely location.

The cottage was clean and comfortable. Everything we could possibly have needed for a holiday was "right there". Had an occasion to phone the owners because I had done something wrong with the timing on the cooking range. They were so friendly and helped me fix the problem straight away. Lovely people. Stayed in the cottage six times,each stay has been great,the location and the facilities are second to none since our last stay there has been a number of small improvements that made our stay even more enjoyable.

We have been coming to Moffat for 22 years and 7 at Strathannan but the first under new ownership.

The changes they have made have enhanced the Cottage. A welcome wine and biscuits on arrival is always nice. The 'plus' for Strathannan is the good sized rooms, well stocked kitchen and its chill out room downstairs separate to the main living room gives you that nice balance of a quiet room for reading/listening to music rather than the TV. 2 log fires and a well sized garden with great views of the surrounding hills. A great based for walking - it's on the South Upland Way and also allows a nice country mile and a half walk into Town. Only negative is perhaps new sofas could be next for an upgrade but others might think I'm being picky! Overall it's a lovely cottage in a beautiful area. Already booked for a return.

The listing was accurate and the property was spacious and nicely decorated.

i feel some attention is needed to the cleaning. It wasn’t really bad but certainly not the same standard i have had in the many other cottages i have rented. stains down the front of kitchen cupboards , inside the food cupboard full of crumbs. i moved the bed to look for the socket and it was thick with dustBathroom needs some tlc . with grouting

We loved this cottage.

I was coming from Oxfordshire and my friend from Inverness! Not seen each other since before covid so was looking forward to a few days together catching up. We travelled to the property in Moffat the day storm Arwen hit the uk! Arrived at the house on the Saturday afternoon and it was just perfect, a little way out of the village of Moffat but close enough to walk in. (We took a walk on the Sunday into Moffat) It was clean and tidy on arrival lots of logs for the fire in the log store and the home was warm. Just what we needed after a long drive in stormy weather. My friend and I settled in as did the dogs, they loved the log fires once we’d got them going. A little gift of wine and biscuits left on the kitchen table for us was a Lovely touch. The home was clean and lots of space. No upstairs bathroom but not a problem. Garden was enclosed although our little pooches could get under the gate, so always had to go out with them in case they escaped! Sadly due to Storm Arwen we woke up to no power on the Sunday! The property is all electric with the 2 log fires, so had no heating and about 3-4 inches of snow outside!! We got the fires going to warm the property, put a pan on top to boil some water to make a cup of tea. Phoned the pub (using mobiles which thankfully had signal) when open to make sure they had power and went to the pub for Sunday lunch. (The Black Bull in Moffat was great, friendly staff, log fires to warm ourselves by and dog friendly) was a leisurely 45 min walk to town from the property through the snow. By the time we got back home thankfully the power was back on. This was by no means the properties fault at all and we dealt with it as best we could. My friend and I had lots of giggles throughout the day. There’s lots of cafes and places to eat in Moffat. We went on a lovely woodland walk which we got to from town. Edinburgh 1 1/2 hours drive away, We took a trip to the Christmas markets. The house has everything you would need, large garden, comfy beds, great bathroom although took a while to fill the bath! Plus a well equipped kitchen. I would definitely recommend this lovely little cottage. Reminded me of the cottage in the movie The Holiday. Especially when we were lucky enough to wake up to snow on our first morning. Would love to visit again.

We had everything we could need and the location was great being only a short drive from Moffat and also near to lots of walks in the nearby mountains. We wish had a longer stay and would certainly recommend this.

Fantastic comfy dog friendly cottage.

Situated just out of Moffatt town centre which gives you a real rural feel break without being too far away from shops & amentities. The cottage is extremely well equipped, a real home from home and within an hour we felt comfy & settled. Nice to have a TV free froom too ( we made this our reading/quiet room) - don't worry there's a fab TV in the other lounge and both have woodburners for those cosy nights! The garden is a fantastic space for all the family with sheep, rabbits and plenty of birds to watch during the day. Easy access to lovely local walks and close to the road network if you want to explore further afield. ...........Lovely thoughtful owners who have thought of everything to make your stay so welconming & comfortable. The property was very clean, beds & bedding fresh & comfy and lovely shower & bath. We loved it so much we've already booked for next year !
