Longden 1 mile.
Enveloped by the picturesque Shropshire countryside lies this endearing end of terrace cottage, perfectly positioned for enjoying the plethora of walks and cycle routes in the area, as well as being within striking distance of the market town of Shrewsbury.
Offering bags of character from the outset, 1 Royal Oak Cottage has been designed with a family in mind, boasting all the modern conveniences required for a self-catering getaway, whilst retaining many original features.
Enter into the red brick property and be welcomed into the sitting room, where the exposed beams frame the open fire, which is awaiting to be lit during the winter months to set a tranquil ambiance as you flick through the channels of the Smart TV or perch at the bay window to watch the world go by.
Step through into the kitchen/diner, where the character beams seamlessly blend with the contemporary kitchen units, housing all the essentials to cater to your culinary delights, as well as a dishwasher to serve as a helping hand and a handy washing machine to freshen up any belongings after a day’s walk.
Accompanying the space is the dining table, where you and your loved ones can settle down for meals, pop open a bottle of fizz or while away fun-filled hours playing board games brought from home, whilst the second open fire gently fills the room with warmth.
Take the stairs and unpack your bags in one of the two bedrooms, both featuring beautiful original floorboards, pretty views across the village and served by a lovely, family bathroom with a shower over bath.
Here, you can choose between a wonderful double bedroom with a feature fireplace and an impressive exposed brick wall, highlighting the history of the property and a twin bedroom, which is perfect for young children.
For the evenings where you do not feel like cooking, find the local pub serving food just moments away or travel a mile up the road to Longden, where you will find Tankerville Arms pub, as well as a shop for picking up any last minute essentials.
Continue along the same road to find yourself in the market town of Shrewsbury, where you will be spoilt for choice by the selection of places to eat and drink, from traditional pubs, fine dining restaurants and tasty takeaways, you are sure to find something to suit all tastes and budgets.
Lace up your walking boots and better acquaint yourself with your surroundings on one of the many walks from the doorstep of the cottage, including a hike along the Lyth Hill Loop from Bayston Hill or trekking along part of the Shropshire Way, a waymarked long distance footpath taking you through the finest parts of Shropshire county.
Explore the AONB further by paying a visit to Carding Mill Valley and the Long Mynd and the Acton Scott Historic Working Farm, both promising to be wonderful days out for a family of all ages, or there is the market towns of Church Stretton and Bishop's Castle that are well-worth visiting too.
The county town of Shrewsbury makes a great afternoon out, with the historical landmarks of Shrewsbury Prison and Lord Hill's Column, as well as the plethora of independent shops awaiting to be explored.

What guests are saying
The property is very nice and well located.
A few comments: The stairs are steep and narrow (I was warned but only after I booked.) The living room and dining room are poorly-lit. The dining chairs are pretty but very uncomfortable. (I used a cushion from the sofa.) Be prepared to do some shopping for basics if you plan to cook/eat. The property doesn't (didn't) include any basics like salt and pepper. The beds are very comfortable.
A beautifully maintained property.
Full facilities to make it a relaxing few days. Secure garden for doggy visitors as well. Only issue which is out of owners control is road Cottage sits on. Cars driven at high speed through village so recommend reverse park on drive way to allow view when leaving property. Other than that would definitely book again.
We enjoyed our stay and the cottage is very well equipped.
However , there were a few things which do need to be sorted which I believe others have mentioned. The hot water runs hot / cold , not sure if this is all the time ; one of the knobs on the hob had broken off so you couldn’t use that ring. The double bed mattress - is uncomfortable and you can feel the springs . Cobwebs in the bedroom , the front door looks very tatty - needs re-painting. ( not very welcoming) the hot tap in the downstairs toilet was hard to switch off . The welcome pack was a bit of an insult ( 2 cheap packets of crisps , 2 small packets of biscuits and a few sweets) would rather have nothing. A pint of milk , some bread etc would be a far better choice for people. It does mention about the steep stairs and we are relatively fit - but they are extremely steep and the bath tiny , the garden is also not enclosed for a dog and I believe not adjacent to the house - so you can let your dog out of the back door safely on its own. We always stay in Sykes cottages these days as feel they are a better quality than other companies, but not in this case. Overall everything was fine, and the above aren’t massive problems ( apart from the bed when you can’t sleep !) but there seemed to be a general lack of maintenance , upkeep and care. For the amount of money you pay , this I feel is not good enough.
